Abstract:
The technique of installing penile prostheses for treatment of erectile dysfunction in the male is becoming increasingly popular, particularly, but by no means exclusively in the cases of impotence in which biological factors are clearly implicated. The literature to date fails to take into account suprabiological factors such as the nature of the couple's sexual relationship and more particularly the sexual myths that shape their sexual behaviour. The author evaluated eight couples in which the male was seeking a penile prostheses and in all eight couples a variety of sexual myths had contributed to major sexual problems for the couple, even before the onset of the erectile dysfunction. A plea is made for discarding the false dichotomy or “organic” versus “functional”, in favour of a list of etiological factors including the biological ones as well as suprabiological ones. Also, the installation of penile implants should only be considered after a full investigation of the couple's sexuality by a competent sex therapist and only when other forms of couple/sex therapy have failed.

Abstract:
Love and relationships are sociocultural constructions that, in recent times, have experienced great changes in terms of type of relationship, type of love and happiness of the couple. Few studies have analysed the love relationships immigrant population in Europe. This study aims to explore the differences and similarities in love styles between Spaniards and Moroccan immigrants, the country’s largest foreign population, and analyse the relationship between these styles and level of couple happiness. This cross-sectional study disseminated a survey to young adults between the ages of 18 and 40 in southern Spain. Of those who received the survey, 574 young adults responded, of which 182 were of Moroccan origin and 392 were Spanish. The results indicated that there are sociocultural and gender differences in the types of relationships young adults maintain and in the agents that facilitate romantic socialisation. The Spaniards describe less stable relationships, more influenced by several agents, while the Moroccans demonstrated more stability in relationships, more influenced by family and religion. In accordance with Sternberg love components, different types of love were recognised. Spanish women are the group most value love in their lives, rated higher in couple happiness, and gave special importance to intimacy (but not to commitment and passion). Moroccan women followed models of love closer to Sternberg's romantic love, giving importance to commitment, intimacy and passion. Spanish men were similar to Moroccan men regarding their type of love, although they were the only ones that included commitment as a predictor of happiness. This study reveals that the importance of an intersectional approach to analyse love and couples.

Abstract:
In this paper, a bi-level microstrip differential directional coupler has been investigated. It has been shown that the equalization of coupling coefficients can be successfully made with the use of appropriate dielectric stack-up and conductor geometry. The application of additional top dielectric layer can ensure proper equalization of coupling coefficients by lowering the value of capacitive coupling coefficient to the value of the inductive one. The theoretically investigated coupled-line section has been used for the design of a 3-dB differential directional coupler. The measurement results are compared with the theoretical ones.

Abstract:
Consider a couple of sequence spaces and a product function $-$ a canonical bilinear map associated to the pointwise product $-$ acting in it. We analyze the class of "zero product preserving" bilinear operators associated with this product, that are defined as the ones that are zero valued in the couples in which the product equals zero. The bilinear operators belonging to this class have been studied already in the context of Banach algebras, and allow a characterization in terms of factorizations through $\ell^r(\mathbb{N})$ spaces. Using this, we show the main properties of these maps such as compactness and summability.

Abstract:
Aims Infertility is among the main problems in a marriage. It is associated with various psychological consequences, including the inability to establish a quality couple relationship as well as an unstable marital commitment. The present study aimed to investigate marital commitment and the relationship quality in fertile and infertile couples in 2016-2017. Methods & Materials This was an analytical cohort study. The statistical population consisted of all couples admitting to Sarem subspecialty Hospital in 2016. Two hundred people (96 infertile, 104 fertile) have been randomly selected as the samples. The completed the marital commitment and the relation to quality scales. After checking the normality of the data, the statistical analysis was performed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient, Student t-test, and Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA). Findings The obtained data revealed a significant positive association between marital commitment and relationship quality in fertile and infertile couples (r=0.27 and r=0.18, respectively) (P<0.05). However, this association was stronger in the fertile couples, compared with the infertile ones (relationship quality and marital commitment: P<0.0121 and P<0.0416, respectively). Moreover, the Student t-test and MANOVA results indicated significant differences in relationship quality and marital commitment between the two groups (P<0.0001 and P<0.002, respectively). Conclusion Infertility reduces couples’ commitment and negatively affects the quality of their relationships.

Abstract:
This paper stems from grounded theory applied on evidence gathered together by interviews and observations of 30 couples (60 men and women) from Belgrade. The field research has been a part of a wider one named Policy of Parenthood, carried out in 2013/14, by the Institute for sociological research of the Faculty of Philosophy. We deployed methodological individualism, aimed at conceptualizing various behavioral patterns of couples undergoing major transition from marriage into parenthood. We first undertook in depth analysis of all couples, who represented a variety of coping strategies throughout three main phases: before childbirth (preparatory phase), childbearing (central phase) and aftermath (reconstitution of a group). We have then selected three couples, which identify specific modes of ?crisis management? following family transformation. Couples were given specific labels conveying clear meanings as of their prevalent behavioral styles: the first one - ?intelligentsia?, the second one - very proactive, ?strategists? and finally - ?defeatists?. In this paper, unlike vast majority of domestic qualitative researches and case studies, the three couples were analyzed as a whole, thus gradually and integrally disclosing their life phases and social biographical context. The prior insight into the overall evidence enabled us to construct semantic units (nodes) and subordinated codes, latter ones covering concrete meanings conveyed by couples (dimensions). Interpretation of each and every couple is followed by a comparative discussion of (dis)similarities of their sentiments, behaviors and action potentials. Our main idea was to demonstrate as to what extent individuals and couples critically reflect upon themselves, their partnership, and life course; what is their reference toward current and future state of affairs. We also investigated whether they clearly pose any specific prospective goal in terms of personal and social advancement and if so, which strategy do they intend to enact. Our research was also undertaken with the goal to assess ability of a couple to establish a control over itself and social settings along with the social stress. We deemed it as a way partners and individuals dispose their personal capacity for change, i.e. active social integration in ever changing environment, which is, supposedly, belated but necessary individual strategy for globally running second modernization.

This material melts congruently and it crystallize with the sillenite structure (space group I23) and form a solid solution with the cubic lattice parameter increasing from with a = 10.1568 Å to 10.1436 Å with increasing of P2O5 molar. Consequently, the new composites belong to g-variety of solid state. The samples have been characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), diffraction XRD and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled to the EDX. On the other hand, the valorization of the prepared composites was performed by using them as heterogeneous catalyst in the 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones derivatives synthesis. The BRAMS model is used for numerical weather prediction over South America, with horizontal resolution of 5 km. Both models are executed operationally by the CPTEC-INPE. The boundary conditions for the BRAMS model are provided by the global atmospheric circulation model of the CPTEC-INPE. The simulation with BRAMS for14/Oct/2014 generated a wind field with better agreement with the observations (satellite Metop-A, ASCAT sensor) to the coast of southeastern Brazil) than the field wind generated by the SFM model. The simulation with wind field generated by BRAMS produces higher waves than ones predicted with GFS wind field.

AbstractObjectiveTo identify dietary availability and its time trends in elderly Portuguese households.DesignA set of four cross-sectional studies based on the Household Budget Surveys was used. The dietary data were described using the daily per capita availability of food and beverages, energy and selected nutrients (macronutrients, different lipid fractions and simple sugars). Differences between elderly household types and time trends were studied.SettingPortuguese Household Budget Survey data from 1989/1990, 1994/1995, 2000/2001 and 2005/2006.SubjectsHouseholds with members aged ≥65 years were selected and categorized as solitary elderly female, solitary elderly male or couple (composed of one elderly female and one elderly male).ResultsWhile cereals, fats/oils, potatoes and sugar/sugar products decreased, an increase occurred in milk/milk products, fruits, bottled water, fruit/vegetable juices and soft drinks (P<0·05). The highest values for foods and beverages were mostly found in couples, while the lowest ones were from solitary males. Exceptions were observed for cereals, eggs, milk/milk products, vegetables, fruits and non-alcoholic beverages, higher in solitary females; and for sugar/sugar products and alcoholic beverages, higher in solitary males. Over time, total energy and carbohydrates decreased while proteins and saturated fatty acids increased (P<0·001). Lipids increased in solitary males and couples (P<0·05). Simple sugars increased in solitary males but decreased in solitary females and couples (P<0·05).ConclusionsThe increases in fruits and vegetables in solitary females accord with a healthier food pattern, but overall imbalances in the macronutrient profile for all elderly households may imply a decreasing diet quality.

Abstract:
Receiving support may yield negative outcomes, although these can be offset by reciprocating support. Here, we argue that support receipt and reciprocation should be considered with reference to two separate needs, for relatedness/communion and competence/agency, which underlie differential effects of equity on affective versus relational outcomes. To test these, we go beyond earlier studies by (a) examining equity along a (daily) continuum, (b) using the novel analytic approach of polynomial regression with response surface analyses, and (c) indexing equity from both monadic and dyadic perspectives. Using dyadic daily diaries ( NDays = 35, NCouples = 80), we found personal outcomes (positive affect [PA] and negative affect [NA]) to be worst on inequitable days, particularly overbenefit ones. In contrast, equity did not play the same role with regard to relational outcomes (closeness/satisfaction), for which overbenefit proved more positive. Interestingly, the monadic and dyadic perspectives converged more with personal than with relational outcomes.

Abstract:
Micro-rotating disks are extensively used in micro-electromechanical systems such as micro-gyroscopes and micro-rotors. Because of the sensitivity of these elements, enough knowledge about the mechanical behavior of these structures is an essential matter for designers and fabricators. The small-scale effects on the in-plane free vibration of such micro-disks present an important aspect of the mechanical behavior of these elements. The small-scale effects on the in-plane free vibration of these micro-disks are investigated in this study using the modified couple stress theory. By using the Hamilton principle, the partial differential equations governing the coupled radial and tangential motion of the disk particles with their corresponding boundary conditions are derived. Then, the solution for the boundary value problem is analytically presented. The effects of the angular speed of the micro-disks and the length scale parameter of the modified couple stress theory on the steady radial and tangential displacements, and on the natural frequencies are investigated. Those results are compared with the ones previously obtained from the classical continuum mechanics analysis.

This paper is a replication of Pamela Fishman’s ‘Interaction: The work women do’ using Brazilian Portuguese speakers as subjects. The study develops Fishman’s methodology, in particular in the treatment of question forms which are analysed taking into account the function of the questions in the discourse. Not all questions were found to have a role in the development and maintainance of interaction. There are few similarities between the findings reported in Fishman’s study and the findings in this study. There appears to be no clear evidence of unequal distribution of work in the conversations of the two couples. Even though the men raised more topics, both men and women worked for the conversation to develop smoothly by doing support work while the other participant was talking.

Abstract:
This research note reports the results of interviews with 29 married couples about how they make charitable giving decisions. Most couples in the sample made decisions about donating small amounts separately and large amounts jointly. Most couples engaged in cooperative, not competitive, bargaining, as they tended to support the same charities and rarely disagreed about giving decisions. When couples did disagree, it was usually about the amount given, not the target, for large donations, and the target, not the amount given, for small ones. Sometimes one partner would act as the “gas pedal” and tend to want to donate money, while their spouse would act as the “brakes” and argue in favor of making a smaller donation or no donation. Cooperative bargaining also marked the process of increasing a donation, as one spouse would make a small initial decision and would later consult with the other about increasing the amount.

Abstract:
The purpose of the present study was to compare the wear behavior of ceramic-on-vitamin-E-diffused crosslinked polyethylene (Vit-E XLPE) hip bearings employing the gold standard oxide ceramic, zirconia (ZrO2)-toughened alumina (Al2O3) (ZTA, BIOLOX®delta) and a new non-oxide ceramic, silicon nitride (Si3N4, MC2®). In vitro wear test was performed using a 12-station hip joint simulator. The test was carried out by applying the kinematic inputs and outputs as recommended by ISO 14242-1:2012. Vitamin-E-diffused crosslinked polyethylene (Vit-E XLPE) acetabular liners (E1®) were coupled with Ø28-mm ZTA and Si3N4 femoral heads. XLPE liner weight loss over 5 million cycles (Mc) of testing was compared between the two different bearing couples. Surface topography, phase contents, and residual stresses were analyzed by contact profilometer and Raman microspectroscopy. Vit-E XLPE liners coupled with Si3N4 heads produced slightly lower wear rates than identical liners with ZTA heads. The mean wear rates (corrected for fluid absorption) of liners coupled with ZTA and Si3N4 heads were 0.53 ± 0.24 and 0.49 ± 0.23 mg/Mc after 5 Mc of simulated gait, respectively. However, after wear testing, the ZTA heads retained a smoother topography and showed fewer surface stresses than the Si3N4 ones. Note that no statistically significant differences were found in the above comparisons. This study suggests that the tribochemically formed soft silica layer on the Si3N4 heads may have reduced friction and slightly lowered the wear of the Vit-E XLPE liners. Considering also that the toughness of Si3N4 is superior to ZTA, the present wear data represent positive news in the future development of long-lasting hip components.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTLate-life husband and wife relationships are increasingly recognised as an important factor in promoting wellbeing, particularly in terms of the health, social, emotional, financial and practical needs of older people. Knowledge of marital dynamics and how they affect both members of a couple remains scarce. This systematic review aimed to identify and appraise research that has focused explicitly on the dynamics of the relationship, as evinced by data frombothspouses. Implementing rigorous identification strategies, 45 articles were identified and reviewed. These studies were grouped into three broad thematic areas: marital relations and satisfaction; concordance in emotional state or physical health; and the interplay between marital quality and wellbeing. The issues found to affect marital relations and satisfaction in late life included equality of roles, having adequate communication, and transitions to living apart. There is strong evidence for couple concordance in depression, that marital relationships affect ill-health, longevity and recovery from illness, and reciprocally that ill-health impacts on the marriage itself. The research also suggests important gender differences in the impact of marital dynamics on health. It has led to the conclusion that there is a need for more diverse studies of late-life marriages, particularly ones that examine the dynamics of non-traditional elderly couples and that extend beyond a predominant focus on the Caucasian population of the United States.

We present a systematic and "from the ground up" analysis of the "minimal coupling" type of gauging of Yang–Mills symmetries in (2, 2)-supersymmetric (1+1)-dimensional space–time. Unlike in the familiar (3+1)-dimensional N=1 supersymmetric case, we find several distinct types of minimal coupling symmetry gauging, and so several distinct types of gauge (super)fields, some of which entirely novel. Also, we find that certain (quartoid) constrained superfields can couple to no gauge superfield at all, others (haploid ones) can couple only very selectively, while still others (nonminimal, i.e. linear ones) couple universally to all gauge superfields.

Abstract:
We report a straightforward method for the synthesis of five-membered 1,3-dioxolan-4-ones by an unprecedented oxidative alkene geminal difunctionalization strategy using α-hydroxy carboxylic acids. Under the geminal oxidative addition conditions, various substituted α-hydroxy carboxylic acids and styrenes containing a variety of substituents, including β-substituted styrenes, were effectively coupled regioselectively (anti-Markovnikov) with an isobutyl-substituted chiral α-hydroxy carboxylic acid, providing an annulation with excellent diastereoselectivity. An aryl migration in the semipinacol rearrangement leading to geminal oxidative addition of the α-hydroxy carboxylic acids was confirmed by deuterium-labelling and control studies.

Abstract:
In this paper, the vector form intrinsic finite element (VFIFE) method is presented for analysis the train–bridge systems considering the coach-coupler effect. The bridge is discretized into a group of mass particles linked by massless beam elements and the multi-body coach with suspension systems is simulated as a set of mass particles connected by parallel spring-dashpot units. Then the equation of motion of each mass particle is solved individually and the internal forces induced by pure deformations in the massless beam elements are calculated by a fictitious reverse motion method, in which the structural stiffness matrices need not be updated or factorized. Though the vector-form equations resulting from the VFIFE method cannot be used to compute the structural frequencies by the eigenvalue approach, this study proposes a numerical free vibration test to identify the bridge frequencies for evaluating the bridge damping. Numerical verifications demonstrate that the present VFIFE method performs as accurately as previous numerical ones. The results show that the couplers play an energy-dissipating role in reducing the car bodies’ response due to the bridge-induced resonance, but not in their response due to the train-induced resonance because of the bridge’s intense vibration. Meanwhile, a dual-resonance phenomenon in the train–bridge system occurs when the coach-coupler effect is considered in the vehicle model.

Families or married couples in constant conflict situations and problematic relationships. Our project involved couples who had many problem situations in relation to their spouse. The nature of conflict situations lies in the infantile position of one of the parties, as well as a dismissive attitude towards the problem in the family. You can see the relationship between the structure of the personality and the strategy of behavior in problem situations of marriage partners. Also, in the emergence and development of marital conflicts, the personal characteristics of spouses and the distribution of intra-family roles play an important role. It was found that conflicting married couples, in contrast to non-conflict ones, have differences in their views and understanding of common human and family problems.

Abstract:
The possible differential effects of ABO blood group materno-paternal (fetal) incompatibility on completed reproductive performance were investigated on a sample of 100 couples (100 fathers and 100 mothers) from three villages in the Jind district of Haryana state, India. The average number of live births per mating couple was slightly higher for the incompatible matings (5·32) than the compatible ones (5·05). This advantage was offset by higher postnatal mortality in the former. Consequently, the average number of living children in the compatible matings (4·64) was higher than in the incompatible ones (4·18). With reference to individual ABO matings, the index of relative fertility (Irf) was the highest in A×AB followed by B×A type of incompatible matings. No decrease in live births in O×A and O×B incompatible matings was observed compared with their reciprocal compatible ones, i.e. A×O and B×O matings, as has been hypothesized in previous studies. The total pregnancy wastage was substantially higher in ABO-incompatible matings (24·59%) than compatible matings (8·45%). About 71% of the postnatal deaths took place within one year of the birth in the case of incompatible matings compared with 50% in the case of compatible matings. The study supports the hypothesis that selection is operative at the ABO locus as revealed by the measures of selection intensity. The loss of fitness in the present sample was associated with differential mortality. There were no differences in the proportions of average number of male live births in the compatible (0·55) and incompatible matings (0·58). However, in the individual mating types, there was some evidence of higher or lower proportions of male live births.

Abstract:
Emotionally focused therapy was created as a couples therapy approach and has become a frequently used therapeutic approach these days. This approach, theoretically based on the understanding that the attachment relationship observed between mother and child characterized by proximity seeking and separation anxiety resembles the relationship observed between couples, aims to turn unhealthy attachment relationships between couples into healthy ones. This process is realized by revealing the implicit and hidden emotions that cause problem situations to occur and gaining awareness about these emotions. Different studies have shown spirituality to be a major factor both in forming and solving problem situations in therapy for couples who care about spiritual values. In particular, the meanings couples who attach importance to religious values attribute to marriage and the quality of the relations developed within this meaning can be handled within the framework of emotionally focused couples therapy. The purpose of this article is to explain how the therapy process proceeds when emotionally focused couples therapy is combined with spiritual values and to show which methods and techniques are used in the light of sample cases. In addition, the article aims to raise awareness on how to use this therapy approach, as it can be combined with Islamic elements, and investigates how to set an example in this regard. This study, which briefly introduces emotionally focused couples therapy, provides short examples of how to perform interventions while working with couples who seek counseling using religious or spiritual matters.

This simple strategy provides a green and efficient approach to 3-peroxyindolin-2-ones in moderate to excellent yields. In Study 1, 215 employed adults filled out the scales and a measure of job happiness. Scores on the latter did not correlate with those on the Occupational subscale of the Life Role Salience Scales. As predicted, single subjects scored lower on the Parental and Marital subscales and higher on the Occupational subscale than married ones. In Study 2, 81 married couples filled out the Life Role Salience Scales and the Purpose-in-Life Scale. As predicted, the scores were significantly related. Couples' scores were no more similar to each other than those of a matched group of nominally married couples.

Normal chaotic activity and anomalous chaotic activity have been observed in a uniform coupled map lattice (CML). The former is stable providing a space-time complexity by intermittency of different primitive clusterings. The latter is metastable being a synchronous chaotic activity throughout the CML. Small disturbance destroys it and the CML returns itself to the normal chaotic activity. A transition to the anomalous chaotic activity is possible via a saddle-node bifurcation from a checkerboard state, i.e., from a coherent ensemble of 2-periodic oscillating sites throughout the lattice with the neighboring ones opposite in phases.

Abstract:
Purpose – Family socio-cultural values and its practices have pervasive effects on early age at first marriage in every society. The purpose of this paper is to examine and compare how family socio-cultural values and its practices exert effect on early age at first marriage between Muslim and Santal couples in rural Bangladesh. Design/methodology/approach – First of all through snow-ball process and checking of marriage documents the author carefully identified 598 couples from Muslim and 560 from Santal who were married the first time between 1995 and 2005 years and whose age range was 12-48 years for husbands and 10-45 years for wives. Then, 585 pairs of couples (295 for Muslim and 290 for Santal) were randomly selected from the Talonda of Rajshahi district, Bangladesh. Data were collected, applying interview method with semi-structural questionnaire in family setting. Then the collected data were analyzed, using χ2 test and binary logistic regression (BLR) technique. Findings – The frequency distribution showed that most of the Santal couples compared to the Muslim ones were married before the minimum legal age in Bangladesh. The results of χ2 test of the frequency distribution were significant at p<0.01 and p<0.05 level. In addition, results of BLR analysis suggested that early age at first marriage was significantly (p<0.01 and p<0.05) associated with family socio-cultural values studied. It is argued that ethnicity, family pattern, residence pattern, illiteracy and ascriptive occupational status were the risk factors to persist early marriage among the Santal couples than the Muslim ones in rural Bangladesh. Practical implications – Although the findings are suggestive to understand differences in early marriage associated with family socio-cultural values between the ethnic couples, further cross-cultural study should be conducted on how socio-psychological factors affect early marriage between the ethnic groups. In spite of the limitations these findings may have implications in comparative social policy practice to prevent early marriage associated with changes in family socio-cultural values between the ethnic groups in Bangladesh. Originality/value – The findings in the paper are original in linking between family socio-cultural theory, its related policy and practice to prevent early marriage between the ethnic couples in Bangladesh.

New findings from an oral-history research project investigating sexuality, marriage, and birth control among working-class couples born in the first quarter of the twentieth century run contrary to the family-planning and marriageguidance manuals of the period, as well to demographers' and historians' assumptions. These couples tended to prefer traditional methods of birth control, notably withdrawal, to more modern, mechanical, ones on the grounds that they were more “natural”. Although many respondents acknowledged that withdrawal compromised sensual pleasure to some extent, most saw equivalent, or worse, drawbacks in the other available means of birth control.

Abstract:
Inter-cultural families are an integral part of modern society, the institution of mutual influence of different cultures, of a person’s identity transformation. The studies of marital adjustment, values, and attitudes consistency in inter-cultural couples provide contradictory results. To resolve contradictions in this area, comparative studies of inter-cultural families of different types are important. The aim of the study is the comparative analysis of life and family values in inter-cultural couples, differing by the ethnic and religious affiliation of spouses. The participants: 69 couples: 20 mono-ethnic Russian, 30—inter-ethnic, inter-faith (Russians/Arabs); 19—inter-ethnic, with a common religion (Russian/Transcaucasian, Christians). The methods: Value Survey (Schwartz), Marital Role Expectations and Aspirations (Volkova), Marital Satisfaction Test (Stolin et al.), Mann–Whitney U-test, paired T-test. In inter-cultural couples, the spouses’ life-values coincidence is significantly less strong than in mono-cultural ones. However, in couples with common religious differences, their life values reflect not so much the contradictions, but the complementarity of traditional gender values. In general, the different cultures of spouses (both ethnic and religious) optimizes the process of comparing values and family attitudes. Despite a number of difficulties, spouses from inter-cultural couples generally have more consistent ideas about their family life.

ABSTRACT.Since 80’s, underwater acoustic digital communication has being one of the principal topic in underwater acoustics research. Besides, underwater waveguide modeling also has been a subject of intensive research taking benefit of the increase in available computational power and data volume provided by the new generation of ocean data measurements instruments. In shallow water specific scenario normal-mode acoustic propagation models are still based on classic Pekeris two layers ocean model. Our paper also starts from Pekeris but uses some different approaches based on waveguide coupling and in generalized adiabatic coupled mode theory. In other words, we used the property that all waveguides could be acoustically excited by transmission resonance of consecutive modes, considering an adiabatic invariant channel. Synthetic results are compared with transmission loss measurements in field experiments trying to validate the model. We study the scaling behavior of M-furcation (M=2, 3, 4,…) sequences of Mn-periodic(n=1, 2, …) orbits in two coupled one-dimensional (1D) maps. Using a renormalization method, how the scaling behavior depends on M is particularly investigated in the zero-coupling case in which the two 1D maps become uncoupled. The zero-coupling fixed map of the M-furcation renormalization transformation is found to have three relevant eigenvalues δ, α, and M (δ and α are the parameter and orbital scaling factors of 1D maps, respectively). Here the second and third ones, a and M, called the “coupling eigenvalues”, govern the scaling behavior of the coupling parameter, while the first one δ governs the scaling behavior of the nonlinearity parameter like in the case of 1D maps. The renormalization results are also confirmed by a direct numerical method.

This article presents the results of a study on the housing situation of young married couples in Olsztyn. The results were derived from a survey addressed to newlyweds, which was developed according to J. Korniłowicz (2003). The research material was collected in collaboration with the Register Office in Olsztyn. An indicator method proposed by A. Andrzejewski (1987) was applied to the processing of the data. The purpose of this study was to analyze the housing situation of young married couples. The results implicate quite a high self-evaluation of the housing situation by young married couples. The most common type of home occupied by newlyweds was their own flat (including mortgaged ones), followed by sharing a flat with the family of one of the spouses while starting the construction of one's own house. Furthermore, over 50% of the respondents considered temporary economic migration and nearly 40% declared they could feel forced to emigrate permanently due to their housing situation.

Abstract:
Asymptotic synchronization for a class of coupled networks with nondelayed and delayed couplings is investigated. A distinct feature of the network is that all the dynamical nodes are affected by uncertain nonlinear nonidentical perturbations. In order to synchronize the network onto a given isolate trajectory, a novel adaptive controller is designed to overcome the effects of the nonidentical uncertain nonlinear perturbations. The designed controller has better robustness than classical adaptive controller, since it can realize the synchronization goal whether the nodes have these perturbations or not. Based on the Lyapunov stability theory and the Barbalat lemma, sufficient conditions guaranteeing the asymptotic synchronization of the coupled network are derived. Two examples with numerical simulations are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results. Simulations also demonstrate that our adaptive controller has better robustness than existing ones.

Periodic solutions appear in global bifurcations, typically after the collapse of fixed points heteroclinically connected. The symmetries of these periodic solutions are the same as the ones expected in periodic solutions which appear in local (Hopf) bifurcations.
