The two definitions provide answers that differ by a nondivergent vector. Four of his madrigals for an intermedio by Chiabrera illustrate the problem: the texts remain, but not the music. Since Rossi was active in the theatre, it stands to reason that more was composed than the lone musical example, for a Christian play, to be found in the sources. The accurate autopsic study of marbles and stones in the Church of San Giacomo di Rialto (Venice) reveals the identification of around twenty lithotypes, most of which are from the Triveneto area, but some imported from outside this area, including three marbles (Proconnesian marble, Verde Antico, Pavonazzetto) taken from ancient monuments, albeit most probably recovered on the Venetian market. Among the first, 'local' ones, in addition to the typically Venetian stones (Istrian stone, nodular limestones from Verona, Euganean trachyte) some other types were added during the important restorations the church underwent in the 16th-17th centuries, notably in Grigio Carnico marble and Breccia di Brentonico, while Carrara marble, Medicean Breccia and Rosso di Francia marble were brought to Venice in the Baroque age via the thriving stone trade of the Italian peninsula.

In the second of two chapters investigating the role of Homeric epic in fabricating golden ages, Ross proposes the current golden age of superhero movies as an effective lens for viewing the modern idealization of the Spartan king Leonidas as portrayed in 300 (2006). He cites several criteria: the superhero’s origin story; the threats posed by a tyrannical enemy and by civic bureaucracy; and the superhero’s tragic alienation from loved ones and society he protects. Leonidas’ superhero status resonates with Herodotus’ fifth-century BCE account of the Battle of Thermopylae, a “golden” moment in Western historiography, when Leonidas led his 300 Spartan warriors into Homeric “doomed combat” by standing their ground against the massive invasion of the Greek mainland by the army of Xerxes, Great King of Persia. Herodotus’ account has long been recognized as assimilating the Spartan warriors, especially Leonidas, to Homer’s depiction of mythical heroes, who were themselves the bases for twentieth-century superheroes. Ross demonstrates the political ramifications of the film’s use of storytelling to mobilize nostalgia for this golden age into contemporary re-enactment – despite director Zack Snyder’s (in)famous denials of political engagement.

Abstract This chapter gives three arguments against the view, defended in the last century by A. C. Ewing and more recently by several philosophers, that ‘fitting’ is the fundamental ethical concept, underlying both evaluative concepts like ‘good’ and deontic ones like ‘ought’. The first argument says evaluative and deontic concepts differ too much, and in too important ways, for a common grounding in ‘fitting’ to be possible. The second examines the relation between the concept of fittingness and the non-ethical properties that make something fitting; it argues that in neither the deontic nor the evaluative context is this relation consistent with fittingness being fundamental. The third argument says that no gradable concept like ‘fitting’ (or ‘normative reason’ or ‘ought other things equal’) can be the basic deontic concept; that must be the entirely non-gradable ‘ought (simply or period)’. The chapter develops its arguments with frequent references to earlier discussions of these issues by Sidgwick, Prichard, Moore, Ross, Broad, and Ewing.

Abstract:
Software engineers have been proposing large quantities of metrics for software products, processes and resources (Fenton and Pfleeger, 1997; Melton, 1996; Zuse, 1998). Metrics are useful mechanisms in improving the quality of software products and also for determining the best ways to help practitioners and researchers (Pfleeger, 1997). Unfortunately, almost all the metrics put forward focus on program characteristics (e.g., McCabe, 1976, cyclomatic number) disregarding databases (Sneed and Foshag, 1998). As far as databases are concerned, metrics have been used for comparing data models rather than the schemata itself. Several authors (Batra et al., 1990; Jarvenpaa and Machesky, 1986; Juhn and Naumann, 1985; Kim and March, 1995; Rossi and Brinkemper, 1996; Shoval and Even-Chaime, 1987) have compared the most well-known models--such as E/R, NIAM and relational--using different metrics. Although we think this work is interesting, metrics for comparing schemata are needed most for practical purposes, like choosing between different design alternatives or giving designers limit values for certain characteristics (analogously to value 10 for McCabe complexity of programs). Some recent proposals have been published for conceptual schemata (MacDonell et al., 1997; Moody, 1998; Piattini et al., 2001), but for conventional databases, such as relational ones, nothing has been proposed, excepting normalization theory.

Self-Referential Systems This chapter is largely a review of the essential ideas behind the proofs of Gödel, Rosser and Löb—only presented in a more abstract setting. We believe that it will tie up these ideas in a helpful and instructive manner. We shall first present these ideas in the form of logic puzzles (much in the manner of Smtdlyan [1987]). Then we shall state the results more generally in terms of abstract systems that we call provability systems. These are closely related to certain axiom systems of modal logic, which we briefly discuss at the end of the chapter. In the puzzles to which we now turn, belief will play the rôle of provability. Instead of considering a mathematical system and the sentences provable in it, we consider a logician (sometimes call a reasoner) and the propositions believed by the reasoner. Apart from the heuristic value, these “epistemic” incompleteness theorems appear to be of some interest to those working in artificial intelligence. We shall pay a visit to the Island of Knights and Knaves, in which knights make only true statements and knaves make only false ones. Each inhabitant is either a knight or a knave. No inhabitant can claim that he is not a knight (since a knight would never make such a false claim and a knave would never make such a true claim). A logician visits this island one day and meets a native. All we are told about the logician is that he is completely accurate in his beliefs—he never believes anything false. The native then makes a certain statement X. It then follows that the logician can never believe that the native is a knight nor can he ever believe that the native is a knave.

Este artigo investiga a presença das cinco fases do luto propostas por Elisabeth Kübler-Ross (negação, raiva, barganha, depressão e aceitação) expressadas em postagens publicadas na rede social Facebook em um grupo específico onde pessoas perderam seus entes queridos durante a pandemia da COVID-19. Utilizando 121 publicações, sendo cada uma dessas de uma pessoa diferente, postadas em um grupo do Facebook denominado “Luto-Vítimas do Covid-19”. As postagens foram coletadas no período de tempo entre 8 de março a 7 de julho de 2021, amostra esta cuja média móvel de mortes por COVID-19 no Brasil ficou acima de 1500 mortes por dia em grande parte deste período, porém, sendo esta delimitação de tempo a de maior registro de mortes por COVID-19 no Brasil segundo o site intitulado Our World in Data. Utilizou-se da metodologia Análise de Conteúdo de forma qualitativa, utilizando a técnica de categorização temática buscando identificar e categorizar as diferentes fases do luto nas postagens. Os resultados indicaram a presença de várias fases em cada postagem e que as fases de negação e raiva foram as mais frequentes. Este estudo contribui para a compreensão de como as pessoas expressam seu luto nas redes sociais e para o desenvolvimento de novas formas de compreensão e de apoio ao luto online.

Recently a simple analytic canopy bidirectional reflectance factor (BRF) model based on the spectral invariants theory was presented. The model takes into account that the recollision probability in the forest canopy is different for the first scattering than the later ones.
