Abstract:
The study investigated the marketing of poultry-eggs in Ondo-West local government area of Ondo State, Nigeria. The multi-stage sampling technique was employed in the selection of one hundred and twenty-five (125) poultry-egg marketers for the study. Primary data collected with the aid of structured questionnaire were analysed using descriptive statistics, gross margin analysis and ordinary least square regression analysis. Result showed the mean age of respondents as 44.2±9.7 years, 63.2% were female and 36.8% were male and 72.0% were married. The mean household size was 7±3 members and 58.4% had secondary education. Price fluctuation constitutes a major challenge in poultry-egg marketing. The gross margin was N 48611.37. The regression analysis revealed that stock size (number of creates), cost price, transportation cost and labour cost were the significant variables influencing the gross margin in poultry-egg marketing in the study area. Marketing of poultry-egg has improved the average household means of livelihoods and generate income. Hence, poultry-egg marketing should be encouraged in terms of access to credit, information and provision of storage facilities.

Abstract:

This study is aimed at evaluating the efficiency of timber processors in Ondo State, Nigeria, using Data Envelopment Analysis. Multi stage sampling technique was used to select two Local Government Areas with the highest number of sawmills, from each of which twenty saw millers were randomly selected, given a total of forty saw millers. Based on Constant Return to Scale Technical Efficiency, 35% of the saw millers were technically efficient while on the basis of Variable Return to Scale TE, 60% of the saw millers were technically efficient. About 35% of the saw millers were scale efficient. The Data Envelopment Analysis output revealed that 35% of the sampled saw millers were both technically and scale efficient and were hence operating at the most productive scale size. About 65% of the saw millers were operating at sub-optimal condition. Excesses in input utilization were observed in respect of total fixed cost, costs of electricity, servicing of mill, timber from forest reserve and operation of truck; and remuneration of labour. The inefficient firms should be encouraged to emulate the operating practices of the most productive firms so as to improve their performance.

Abstract:
The practice of School-Based Management (SBM) has been widely liked to variety of wide positives in schools and increasingly acceptable in major developed and developing nations, however, the disposition and acceptance of the SMB policy remained unclear in Ondo State, Nigeria. In Nigeria, there is paucity of literature addressing the role of school location in the practice of SBM policy. This study, therefore examined the practicality of SBM in public secondary schools in Ondo State and the implication of school location. Descriptive survey design was adopted by the study. Key players from sixty (60) public secondary schools in Ondo State participated in the current study using purposive sampling techniques. In determine the efficiencies and effectiveness of School-Based Management Committees, participant were opened to Effective School-Based Management Index (E-SBM-INDEX). The instrument reported a strong overall Cronbach alpha of 0.97, while the subscales factors entails, power decentralization (α =.92); facilities obligation (α =.73); monitoring and evaluation (α =.65); recruitment and retrenchment (α =.85); and financial obligation (α =.71). Information on socio-demographic factors and geographical location of schools were also obtained from the participants. Descriptive analysis and T-Test of independent sample were used to analyze data and accepted at P < 0.05. Respondents’ mean age was 49.5±11.5 years. It was revealed that 35% of the public schools engaged practice effective SBM in Ondo State, while 65% of public schools engaged were practicing ineffective SBM. Furthermore, It was revealed that there was significant difference in the practice of SBM in rural and urban public secondary schools in Ondo State (T (58) = 26.60; P < 0.01), such that, public secondary schools located in the rural area ( = 75.20, SD = 1.80) practice effective SBM’s policy than counterparts located in the urban area ( = 34.97, SD = 02.67). Majorly the practice of SBM in public secondary school remained ineffective in Ondo State. The practice of SBM in rural and urban public secondary schools in Ondo State is significantly different. Public secondary schools located in the rural area of Ondo State practice effectively SBM’s policy than public secondary schools located in the urban area of Ondo State. It is recommended that the government should be pro-active in creating an enabling environment in terms of policy upon which SBM can be practice effectively and efficiently.

Abstract:
Organochlorine pesticide residues in dried cocoa beans from selected towns from Ondo and Osun States, Nigeria were determined. Four towns Ondo and Idanre (Ondo State) and Ife and Ilesa (Osun State) were selected to represent cocoa producing areas in the states. Samples were extracted and cleaned-up on silica gel adsorbent. Pesticide residues were detected using Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Five organochlorine pesticides were detected in the samples from Ondo state which includes alpha-HCH, beta-HCH, delta-HCH, endrin andp p’DDT. The levels ofp p’DDT (0.108 mg/kg and 0.107 mg/kg) detected in samples from Ondo and Idanre towns were lower than the EU MRL (0.5 mg/kg), while other detected organochlorine pesticide residues from the State were higher than the EU MRL. In Osun State, alpha-HCH, lindane, dieldrin, endrin, heptachlor-epoxide, endosulfan I andp p’DDT were organochlorine pesticide residues detected, with lindane (0.074 mg/kg), endosulfan I (0.099 mg/kg) andp p’DDT (0.235 mg/kg) being lower than EU MRLs. Higher levels of organochlorine pesticide residues than the EU MRLs suggest that the produce were not safe for human consumption because of the tendency of the pestsides to persist for a long period of time and as well bioaccumulate within the environment. The produce can also face trade threat in international market. Measures were suggested to ameliorate this situation.

Abstract:
Cocoa is known as one of the notable cultivated cash crops of the tropical rainforest of the world that is rain dependent. The study examines the effect of rainfall variation on the yield of cocoa plantation in Ondo State, Nigeria. Data used for the study includes the rainfall data of 15 years from 2000 to 2014 collected from Ondo state agro climatological office as well as cocoa yield data for the same period of time from Ondo State ministry of agriculture and forest resources. Descriptive statistical method was employed to determine the relationship between both variables in which the result shows direct relationship between rainfall and cocoa yield. Results were presented using bar charts and line graph for the time series analysis of the variables. Linear regression statistical analysis was used to predict cocoa yield with certain amount of rainfall with the correlation coefficient ‘r’ value of 0.97 which implies that rainfall changes go a long way to determine the same variation trend in the cocoa yield. Though, not only the quantity of rainfall within the range of rainfall required for the growth of this crop affect the yield but its distribution. A little millimeter of rainfall above or below the required range of rain for cocoa plantation greatly affects cocoa yield.

Abstract:
Aflatoxin contamination of maize is a serious food safety problem worldwide. Despite the widespread consumption of maize in Nigeria, there is limited data on aflatoxin contents of maize vended in open markets in Ondo state, Nigeria. A total of 140 maize samples randomly purchased from major markets in four locations in Ondo state, were screened for total aflatoxins using an ELISA method. Exposure and health risk assessments were performed for the maize consumers by the deterministic and Margin of exposure (MOE) approaches, respectively. About 99% of the maize were contaminated with total aflatoxins (range: 0.65–265 µg/kg; mean: 125.9 µg/kg). Aflatoxin levels exceeding the 4 µg/kg set by the European Union for total aflatoxins were found in 88% of the maize whilst more than one half contained at least 100 µg/kg aflatoxins. The average probable daily intake values were 830, 332 and 138 ng/kg bw/day for the average children, adolescent and adult populations, respectively. Consequently, MOEs for the respective populations were 0.20, 0.51 and 1.23, suggesting a high level of health risk for consumers of maize vended in open markets in Ondo state due to high aflatoxin levels. Maize farmers and households in Ondo state need urgent aflatoxin mitigation interventions.

Abstract:
Abstract This study assessed the effectiveness of tax enforcement tools as panacea for improving tax compliance and overall tax income in the Ondo State, Nigeria. Survey research design was adopted using primary data sourced through administration of structured questionnaire on 150 selected respondents from among staff of Federal Inland Revenue Service and State Board of Internal Revenue Service within the state. The Taro Yamane formula and judgment sampling technique were used to arrive at the sampled respondents. Outcome of Ordinary Least Square regression analysis showed regression coefficient and p-value of tax-audit (0.278; p=0.03<0.05) and tax penalty (0.463; p=0.000<0.05) respectively, indicating a positive and significant relationship of the two explanatory variables with tax compliance at .05 level of significance. The Implication is that a marginal increase in tax audit and tax penalty will lead to increase in tax compliance in Ondo State. No meaningful association exists between tax amnesty and tax compliance based on the finding of this study perhaps tax amnesty is a new policy that was just launched to encourage voluntary tax compliance. As such, it is imperative that tax audit and imposition of tax penalties be encouraged and sustained. These are envisaged to further improve the degree of tax compliance, consequently enhancing government tax revenue generation to augment dwindling oil revenue in Nigeria. As regards relatively new and still under watch tax amnesty, it may turn out to be a veritable tool for voluntary compliance in future if properly nursed.

Abstract:
With an increase in urbanization, there is need for a constant assessment and monitoring of environmental features. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been used in this research was to assess the impacts of Ala River in Akure on the environment using Geographical Information System (GIS) techniques. The data collection involved the use of Questionnaires and the design were based on four criteria: socio-cultural, climatic, economic, Health and Safety Impact factors. Using ArcMap, Buffer Analysis was performed around the River to get those features most susceptible to the impact of Ala River and also to guide the expanse where opinion survey was carried out at different locations around the river. Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to analyse the data acquired and the Hypothesis tested were used to generate outcome set for each of the criteria’s. From the results of the study, it was discovered that the River has impacts on the Social-Cultural state of the environments (P<0.05), Climate of the environment (P<0.05) and Health and Safety state of the environment including the people around it(P<0.05) but the River does not have major impacts on the Economic factors (P>0.05).The research recommends that additional effort need to be put in place on all fronts if the results acquired from environmental assessment is to be put to good use.

Abstract:
This project is based on the influence of television advertising in the promotion of yoruba attires in Ondo State, “a study of NTA Akure”. The research work review related literature and was anchored on persuasive media and cultural conservative theories. It also employed survey design and questionnaire was administered to respondents of the selected three local government areas in Ondo State, but out of the 400 copies of questionnaire administered, 370 was duely attested and recovered for data analysis. The findings revealed that, NTA Akure advertising positively influenced the promotion of Yoruba attires in Ondo State. The study also revealed that, the level of the level of cognizance giving to the promotion of traditional attires especially Aso-Oke by NTA Akure is low. The study concludes that, television advertising has positively influenced the promotion of traditional attires in Yoruba society through assessment of NTA Akure viewers. This research work recommends that, NTA Akure should give much more cognizance to the promotion of the traditional attires through advertisement programme. It also recommends that the Ministry of Art and Culture in Ondo State should see NTA Akure as a medium through which cultural heritage especially traditional attires can be promoted.

Abstract:
carried out on effect of climate change on cocoa production in Ondo State, Nigeria. It specifically identified the socio-economic characteristics, examined the coping strategies adopted by the farmers in adjusting to these problems, determined the factors affecting the coping strategies adopted by the farmers in adapting to climate change, examined the rainfall and temperature patterns of the study area within the period of 1992 – 2012 and analyzed the effects of some climatic variables on cocoa production within the period of 1992-2012. Multi-stage sampling technique was employed to obtain data from 180 cocoa farmers that were purposively selected from 3 Local Government Areas in Ondo State being the highest producers it the State, these are; Ondo East, Akure South and Idanre LGA. Descriptive Statistical Analysis, Trend Analysis, Multiple Regression Model and Tobit Regression Modelwere used to analyze the data. About 62% of the cocoa farmers interviewed observed noticeable changes in temperature while 70% and 51% of the farmers reported increased changes in rainfall and sunlight respectively. Among the most prevalent climate change problems reported among cocoa farmers in the study area were; high incidence of black pod disease (80%), death of cocoa trees (75%), increase malaria incidence (65%),reduction in cocoa yield (63%) and inability to dry cocoa pods (61%). The trend analysis of cocoa production in the study area revealed that there was a sharp decrease in the volume of cocoa produced from 1992-2000while fluctuatingoccurrenceswere witnessed in the volume of cocoa produced till 2012. Also, there was variability in the rainfall, relative humidity and temperature patterns examined within the period under the study. The major coping strategies employed by the cocoa farmers in the study area were; use of chemicals (75%), mulching and planting trees (69%) different planting date (63%), monitoring weather (61%) and crop diversification (58%)while factors influencing coping strategies adoption by the cocoa farmers in the study were; level of education, farm size, access to extension service and farming experience. Abstract:
Abstract The study determined the variation in the morphological and meristic features among four populations of Clarias gariepinus Burchell, 1822 obtained from Owena Dam and River Oluwa in Ondo State and Rivers Omo and Ogbere in Ogun State, both in Nigeria. A total of ninety five (95) and one hundred and twenty (120) fish specimens collected from Ondo and Ogun states respectively were measured using standard procedures and the results were analysed using Analysis of variance and multivariate analyses. The results obtained from the ANOVA and Principal Component Analyses of Clarias gariepinus from the four populations revealed heterogeneity for most of their characters. Therefore, the morphological differences between the wild African catfish found in Ondo and Ogun state populations could be linked to genetic differences or environmental factors or a combination of both factors. Hence, this study concluded that the populations are different which could imply high genetic diversity if molecular marker techniques are employed in further studies.
