Abstract:
An efficient transformation towards propynoates and propynenitriles is herein described. The practical methodology was conducted at low temperature (–78 or –60 °C) in a one-pot manner with the assistance of base rather than any transition metal catalysts. The base-induced protocol exhibits good functional group tolerance (up to 28 examples) and high efficiency (up to 92% yields) towards substituted acetylenes of great synthetic significance, which was also well demonstrated by the gram-scale reactions.

Abstract Three different reactions were explored leading to the synthesis of various benzofurans. All reactions took place under AcOH catalysis in a one-pot manner. As a result, benzoquinone derivatives underwent heteroannulation with either itself or cyclohexanones to produce furanylidene-benzofuran or benzofuran structures, respectively.

Ruthenium complexes are remarkable catalysts for the C–H activation approaches and organic transformations. Combining a Ru-catalyst with oxidants and other additives in a one-pot process is considered a sustainable approach due to the reduction in reaction steps and the minimal usage of solvents during synthesis, work-up, isolation of chemicals, and purification of the products. This review highlights the ruthenium-catalyzed organic transformations in a one-pot manner to achieve heterocyclic backbones, including indoles, benzofurans, indazoles, pyrans, pyrimidines, quinolines, and isoquinoline

Main-chain polybenzoxazines containing amide linkages were successfully prepared in one pot. Three different polymers were synthesized by reacting 3,4-dihydrocoumarine (DHC) and paraformaldehyde with 1,3-diaminopropane or 1,6-diaminohexane or Jeffamine ED-900. The one-pot reaction proceeded through the combination of the ring-opening of DHC with amines, and subsequent Mannich and ring-closure reactions occurring in a cascading manner. The obtained polymer from Jeffamine exhibited good film-forming properties, and free-standing flexible films were easily solvent- casted on Teflon plates. All po

A sequential one-pot two-step protocol has been elaborated for the synthesis of naphthoxazinones from 2-naphthol, methyl carbamate, and aromatic aldehydes. Following the successful multicomponent approach, intramolecular acylation was performed at high temperature, again with the contribution of T3P®, resulting in naphthoxazinone derivatives in moderate yields. This set covers the period from colonial times until today and all the groups discriminated against at one time or another: Arabs and Muslims, who are the most recent targets, blacks, Asians, the indigenous, Latinos, European immigrants, and Jews. Abstract:
In this chapter, we will study the spray pyrolysis process, which is a bottom-up process, and examine the composite electrode powder synthesis process and properties of the core-shell structure. Generally, it is difficult to produce fine particles from metal powders using the top-down method. Thus, the liquid phase method, which is a bottom-up process, is mainly used. However, the liquid phase method has a problem in that impurities exist in the particles. In addition, it is difficult to control the precipitation when synthesizing powder using a solution containing several types of metal salts. The spray pyrolysis process introduced here made it possible to produce composite particles in a one-pot manner without any additional processes for synthesizing the core-shell structure. In the case of core-shell structure of Ag-glass composite powder, the specific resistance of the composite electrode was significantly lowered, compared to the electrode formed by mixing glass frits individually, which improved the dispersibility of the glass. In the case of Cu composite particles with a coating layer, both Ag and glass coating layers formed a passivation layer to improve atmospheric stability, and the introduction of a coating material also improved electrical properties.

Abstract The trouble with most fusion is that nothing ever really fuses. A few surface aspects of jazz and rock are tacked together in a highly calculated manner that only confirms the suspicion that jazz-rock is more often than not an oxymoron—an exceedingly dull one at that. As a movement, fusion is to music what melting-pot civics is to sociology. Which is, I suppose, why it has a huge popular following and a minute body of critical confirmation. A unique situation: Fusion has been with us for a quarter of a century, twice as long as the Swing Era, but virtually all commentary is focused on things like equipment and technique or nostalgia. Yet one recalls, and even revisits, some of the rousing beginnings—Tony Williams’s Emergency! (blemished by the leader’s decision to sing), and the crushing sound-storms created by Miles Davis and John McLaughlin— and wonders anew at how its potential could so quickly be sapped of vitality and innovation.

Allison, Penelope M. "Terminology for type classification and artefact function." In The Insula of the Menander at Pompeii. Oxford University Press, 2007. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780199263127.003.0010.

Abstract:
This chapter discusses Latin, Greek and Italian artefact labels used in the Giornali degli Scavi and in the Pompeian inventories on which this artefact catalogue is based, as well as English labels frequently used by modern scholars for Roman artefacts more generally. Scholars tend to use these labels to distinguish artefacts according to shape or form. In general, they have followed Daremberg and Saglio’s detailed study of Greek and Latin terminology. However, some of these labels (e.g., unguentarium) are not original Latin words but have been invented by archaeologists for certain forms of artefacts. Essentially, archaeologists, writing typological catalogues of Roman artefacts, have tended to formalize nomenclature to enable them to classify excavated material according to form and type, in a manner which is comprehensible to other archaeologists. That said, however, the use of this nomenclature is not always consistent across the discipline. More significantly, this formalization often ascribes function to Roman artefacts without adequate validation. Labelling is useful for organizing the material typologically for production-oriented studies, but it can sometimes be misleading for consumption-oriented studies and for studies concerned with artefact function. An important issue, especially with regard to Latin labels for found objects, is that textual nomenclature and archaeological form are not necessarily equivalent. For example, Apicius’ frequent use of the term caccabus, for cooking pot, probably signifies that this was a more generic term than ahenum, rather than that the two terms represent two different forms that are distinguishable in the material record. Such lack of correspondence between the textual terminology and the material record is apparent when one compares, for example, the discussion of the term fritillus by Daremberg and Saglio with the uses and formalization of this term by archaeologists. The following list and discussion identifies the types of Pompeian artefacts to which a specific, largely standardized, nomenclature has been assigned, in both the Pompeii archives and in publications of Pompeii material. By understanding which term is used for which artefact, it is often possible to ascertain the type of an artefact catalogued in the Giornali degli Scavi or in the Pompeii inventories when that particular artefact is no longer extant.

Abstract:
Being, the topic of metaphysics, is the melting pot in which it and other so-called transcendentals, for example the good, truth and unity are ingredients in one another. But unity or oneness can be taken either numerically or less than numerically. Without this possibility Scotus cannot appeal to the notion of common nature as distinguished from universality and to the idea of a contraction of nature toward the non-numerical singularity in terms of which he defines distinctio formalis following the hint Avicenna gives when he says ‘horseness is horseness’. More than a hint toward phenomenological ontology is given by Scotus himself in so far as he recognises that the sphere of logic is the sphere of intentionality and that intentionality is intrinsic to the work of the categories and transcendentals in signifying judgement. So what is analogical in the field of reality is univocal in the ‘reduced’ field of logic. It remains to be seen whether this emphasis on intentionality conceals the need to be more attentive to attentionality.
