The eukaryotic CMG (Cdc45, Mcm2–7, GINS) helicase consists of the Mcm2–7 hexameric ring along with five accessory factors. The Mcm2–7 heterohexamer, like other hexameric helicases, is shaped like a ring with two tiers, an N-tier ring composed of the N-terminal domains, and a C-tier of C-terminal domains; the C-tier contains the motor. For example, a road embankment collapsed at Okuradani IC in Hyogo Prefecture during the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake of 1995. In 2009, a road embankment along the Tomei Expressway collapsed during an earthquake with epicenter in Suruga Bay. Well governed firms have been noted to have higher firm performance. The main characteristic of corporate governance identified include board size, board composition, and whether the CEO is also the board chairman. This study examines the role corporate governance structures play in firm performance amongst listed firms on the Ghana Stock Exchange. Results reveal a likely optimal board size range where mean ROA levels associated with board size 8 to 11 are higher than overall mean ROA for the sample. AbstractIn this chapter we explore the higher education institutional landscape taking the case of the largest post-Soviet higher education system: Russia. In the Post-Soviet period, Russian higher education has tremendously expanded. The dramatic growth of the number of students and institutions has been facilitated by the introduction of tuition fees in public and a new private sector. The shifts in social and economic demand for professional fields affected the disciplinary and organisational structure of higher educational institutions.The external forces (economic, political, social conditions) and higher education policy have been changing during the last decades. In the first part of the transitional period, the state provided limited regulation of the higher education system. In the 2000s, it has returned to its role of the main agent of change of the higher education system design. The diversity of institutional types that evolved in Russian higher education illustrate the consequences of massification and marketisation, such as new “broad access” segments and institutional programme drift. Also, the governmental role in shaping institutional diversity can be seen through attempts to increase vertical diversity (excellence initiatives), on the one hand, and to restrain it by closing down bottom-tier institutions, on the other.

This chapter addresses the process by which directors are appointed and remunerated, the various board structures, and the importance of board diversity. All companies are required to appoint a director, with the Companies Act 2006 (CA 2006) providing that a private company must have at least one director, and a public company at least two directors. Every public company must also appoint a company secretary. Before a person is appointed as a director, that person and the company will usually negotiate to determine the new director's remuneration package. Remuneration practices tend to differ markedly depending on company size. The two most common board structures in the world are the unitary board and the two-tier board. Meanwhile, in recent years, board diversity has become a major governance topic. The focus to date has been on increasing gender diversity in the boardroom, but recent attention has also focused on ethnic diversity.

Mobile agent has an ability to co-operate with heterogeneous network environment. There are specific predefined techniques to impart mobility to an agent. As a result, the agent behaves only in predefined way. To impart other features beside mobility that helps in interfacing the destination network to complete the intended job, a mobile agent need to be incorporated with additional functionalities. One of such functionalities is ability to access local user profiles, preferences, and other resources as well as other local agents to present information in user’s context. To meet this demand, hybridization of mobile and interface agent that facilitates development of customized application is discussed in this chapter. The multi-agent architecture, described in this chapter, encompasses this hybrid agent to access user profile and fuzzy indicator matrix. Both the profile and matrix are further utilized to construct content preference list according to users’ perspectives. The indicator matrix enlists typical interest and preferences of a group, such as purpose of surfing/using the system (research, teaching, learning, problem solving, etc.); level information needed (highly technical, conceptual, mixed, etc.), media preference (type of document such as text, code, video, etc.). The system is designed as multi-tier structure called resource tier, service tier, and application tier to provide resources, third party services, and application support to learners, instructors, and administrator groups. The chapter utilizes the proposed generic multi tier architecture for a personalized learning (p-Learning) system and discusses its design in detail including working of different agents, mobility and ticket management, user profile structure, and risk management policies. The chapter concludes with discussion on results and future research directions.

Present-day environments cannot be completely understood without knowledge of their history since the last ice age. Paleoecological studies show that the modern ecosystems did not spring full-blown onto the Rocky Mountain region within the last few centuries. Rather, they are the product of a massive reshuffling of species that was brought about by the last ice age and indeed continues to this day. Chronologically, this chapter covers the late Quaternary Period: the last 25,000 years. During this interval, ice sheets advanced southward, covering Canada and much of the northern tier of states in the United States. Glaciers crept down from mountaintops to fill high valleys in the Rockies and Sierras. The late Quaternary interval is important because it bridges the gap between the ice-age world and modern environments and biota. It was a time of great change, in both physical environments and biological communities. The Wisconsin Glaciation is called the Pinedale Glaciation in the Rocky Mountain region (after terminal moraines near the town of Pinedale, Wyoming; see chapter 4). The Pinedale Glaciation began after the last (Sangamon) Interglaciation, perhaps 110,000 radiocarbon years before present (yr BP), and included at least two major ice advances and retreats. These glacial events took different forms in different regions. The Laurentide Ice Sheet covered much of northeastern and north-central North America, and the Cordilleran Ice Sheet covered much of northwestern North America. The two ice sheets covered more than 16 million km2 and contained one third of all the ice in the world’s glaciers during this period. The history of glaciation is not as well resolved for the Colorado Front Range region as it is for regions farther north. For instance, although a chronology of three separate ice advances has been established for the Teton Range during Pinedale times, in northern Colorado we know only that there were earlier and later Pinedale ice advances. We do not know when the earlier advance (or multiple advances) took place. However, based on geologic evidence (Madole and Shroba 1979), the early Pinedale glaciation was more extensive than the late Pinedale was.

This chapter discusses HCI interfaces used in controlling aerial robotic systems (otherwise known as aerobots). The autonomy control level of aerobot is also discussed. However, due to the limitations of existing models, a novel classification model of autonomy, specifically designed for multirotor aerial robots, called the navigation control autonomy (nCA) model is also developed. Unlike the existing models such as the AFRL and ONR, this model is presented in tiers and has a two-dimensional pyramidal structure. This model is able to identify the control void existing beyond tier-one autonomy components modes and to map the upper and lower limits of control interfaces. Two solutions are suggested for dealing with the existing control void and the limitations of the RC joystick controller –the multimodal HHI-like interface and the unimodal BCI interface. In addition to these, some human factors based performance measurement is recommended, and the plans for further works presented.

Chapter 2 assesses the legality of rebel courts pursuant to applicable rules of public international law, with the case studies of the rebel administration of justice by the Islamic State and the Taliban. The Islamic State at one point controlled a territory in Syria and Iraq as large as the United Kingdom. It had a highly developed institutional structure that was quite bureaucratic in nature, including a multi-tier court system that imposed harsh but undeniably effective justice. The Islamic State forcefully rejected notions such as the rule of law and judicial independence and impartiality. The Taliban has a hierarchical governance structure, in which courts are somewhat separate from other sections. Taliban judges are trained Islamic scholars who constantly rotate from province to province, and there are provincial appeal court and central apex courts. The very concept of a “court” used in international law norms applicable to armed conflicts implies some basic attributes that will not be met by any and all adjudicative body. That said, the concept of a “regularly constituted court” in international humanitarian law and of a “court established by law” in human rights law correspond to basic criteria that are not impossible to meet for an armed group. Likewise, the institutional requirement of independence and impartiality that define what is a court, once adapted to the reality of a non-state armed groups operating in a conflict zone, can indeed be met by some armed insurgents.

This chapter focuses on the post-Prohibition era up until craft beer arises as a response. Understanding how beer became racialized helps one to grapple with the continuities of its whiteness and the maintenance of racist practices within the beer industry writ large. The chapter looks at the historical and contemporary (re)construction of the craft beer response, largely through a critical look at the relationality of the three-tier distribution system and its structural and cultural linkages to race, racism, and racial exclusion in the industry as homebrewing arose (again) and craft was emerging. Additionally, it considers the role of actors at each level of the three-tier system in order to fully understand how exposure to craft beer through industry employment, marketing, and consumption contributes to and is the product of the racialization of beer. The respondents helped cast the three-tier distribution system in a whole new light as it plays out on the ground to make and keep the craft beer industry and culture white.

Abstract:
Dairy farming is one of the growing industries. It offers multiple opportunities to people and leave a sustainable impact on society, environment and economy. In this chapter we discuss about its reach and establishment in rural areas and how this industry can play an instrumental role in rural development. The present case captures and reviews the functioning of a dairy farm situated in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, a state in India. The chapter narrates the role of various heads working at this farm and elaborates the steps involved from procuring the dairy products to its treatment and finally to its catering to the consumer, this case is developed through a rigorous literature review. To assess and establish the role of dairy farming in rural development, this chapter discusses the three tier AMUL model of Gujarat, India is also reviewed. This model by now is the most structured one and lays the foundation for dairy farming in the country. It also demonstrates that dairy farming can become instrumental in rural development.
