Ablation of the mouse genes for Onecut-2 and Onecut-3 was reported previously, but characterization of the resulting knockout mice was focused on in utero development, principally embryonic development of liver and pancreas. Here we examined postnatal development of these Onecut knockout mice, especially the critical period before weaning. Onecut-3 knockout mice develop normally during this period. As part of a US-France Project Agreement, the US Army and ONERA are investigating mid-fidelity computational approaches for rotorcraft aerodynamics. The approaches from both groups use immersed boundaries in the place of boundary-layer-resolved meshes and actuator lines in the place of rotor blades. This paper is providing an overview of the ONERA and DLR results in the Clean Sky Green Rotorcraft project (2008-2016). An active twist technology and tools for passive blade design and optimization ranging from single to multiple objectives are presented for improving the main rotor blade performance.
