Abstract:
The key factor for the effective development of business entities in market conditions is the issue of activating innovation and entrepreneurship, because in this way it is possible to significantly increase the economic efficiency of a given entity, improve the financial situation and, consequently, increase tax revenues to the state budget. In addition, the improvement of business and social relations between enterprises and state and self-government authorities is also particularly important. In connection with the above, the importance of chambers of commerce acting as the integrators of the business community, self-government and state authority institutions and other public entities is growing. One of such chambers of commerce is the Industrial and Commercial Congregation of the Polish Chamber of Commerce, which also integrates the business community with the institutions of locally operating local government units and the regional economic chambers cooperating with them, which mainly associate locally operating entrepreneurs. As part of its activities, the Industrial and Commercial Congregation of the Polish Chamber of Commerce organizes periodically implemented meetings, conferences and congresses, during which debates regarding the need for systemic improvement of economic, normative, fiscal, etc. conditions are made to small and medium-sized companies in the trade sector operating in Poland. The main events integrating entrepreneurs, local government, economists, people of art and politicians organized periodically by the Polish-American Chamber of Commerce and Industry are the Congresses of Polish Economy and the Congresses of Modern Economy. One of the last events of this type was the Jubilee XIV Congress of Polish Economy organized on June 21, 2017 in Warsaw on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Polish-Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. This Congress, which is the subject of the next chapter of this study, continued the problems raised during debates taking place during previous KPH OIG Congresses.

Shrikant, Natasha. "The Discursive Construction of Race as a Professional Identity Category in Two Texas Chambers of Commerce." International Journal of Business Communication 55, no. 1 (July 9, 2015): 94–117. http://dx.doi.org/10.1177/2329488415594156.

Abstract:
This study employs membership categorization analysis to illustrate multiple ways that race is constituted as professional identity in two chambers of commerce in a large Texas city. One of the chambers—the Asian American City Chamber of Commerce (AACC)—is explicitly defined in terms of race, while the second—the North City Chamber of Commerce (NCC)—is defined by a particular geographic area locally associated with being White. Analysis of naturally occurring talk in each organization illustrates how members of the AACC overtly discuss racial categories as professional categories. Members of the NCC avoid explicitly talking about race but do implicitly construct a White professional identity. Thus, racial identity and professional identity are constructed as inseparable identity categories in each chamber. Overall, interactions in the AACC and NCC tend to reproduce differences between “minority businesses” and “normal businesses”—understood to be White, but in which White race is invisible—thus contributing to a Texas business community in which Whiteness reigns as the dominant, invisible professional identity category.

Abstract:
Purpose – The institutional work literature has paid little attention to cognition and interests in the creation, maintenance, and disruption of institutions. The purpose of this paper is to explore the construct of interests as it relates to institutional work projects. The authors frame interests as recognitions situated within broader institutional meaning systems, with a specific focus on interest plurality. Design/methodology/approach – The authors conducted an 18-month ethnography exploring institutional work projects within a rural chamber of commerce. The authors aimed to understand how projects contributed to community survival on a micro-level and institutional change on a macro-level. Rural chambers of commerce represent a unique example of emergent public-private partnerships, challenging traditional commercial logics of chambers of commerce. The research design included qualitative data collection, coding, and analysis of field notes, interviews, and archival sources. Findings – Purposive action was grounded in the community inhabited by the rural chamber of commerce and not the institution itself. Recognized interests enabled nontraditional workers – public employees with newly founded and legitimate roles within the chamber – to pursue community-focussed projects. Change across the institution of chambers of commerce occurred because of the separated and aggregate projects spanning across rural communities. Originality/value – Recognized interests are a social, plural, and malleable phenomenon supporting situated agency and the co-creation activities embodied in institutional work projects. The authors contribute to the institutional work literature by introducing the idea of interest plurality and illustrating how the work of rural chambers of commerce captures contemporary forms of community organizing.

Abstract:
This contribution aims to examine the relationship between corporations and the Italian industrial groups from a particular perspective, which is that of associations through the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy, established in 1915 to facilitate the commercial relations between Italy and the United States. The economic crisis of 1930 and 1931 and, shortly after, the very serious restrictions on foreign trade of the Fascist government program influenced significantly on the Chamber’s development. The authority of the institution was to decline, the relations with the United States became more and more rare and the number of members decreased considerably. Corporations obtained the authorizations on new systems, the establishment of companies for the development of the Italian East Africa, the control on economic initiatives in the colonies, the cooperation with the tax authorities in the determination and application of taxes, and finally control over foreign trade and currencies. So the function that the State should have exercised using the corporations ended up falling into the hands of big businessmen, who ruled through their representatives. Therefore, Corporations guaranteed full freedom to industry groups supporting them, and government authorities recognized the competence and intervention limits of those institutions and the need for a better definition of the objectives.</p>

Abstract:
This study dealt with the arbitrator of emergency in commercial arbitration and this development is the most innovative in the rules of commercial arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris in 1912, where a new trend was adopted with regard to interim and urgent measures before the final form of the arbitral tribunal. The International Chamber of Commerce has already adopted the rules of this system before the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce. The emergence of new systems in commercial arbitration needs to be examined in order to understand, interpret and check its suitability to the needs of the parties to the dispute in the framework of commercial arbitration. Among the most important new systems are the rules of emergency arbitrator, which have been taken by many commercial arbitration centers because of the advantages of one or both parties when it needs urgent and incidental measures that cannot wait until the formation of the arbitral tribunal. Therefore, the appointment of an emergency arbitrator may be requested for such measures. Many of the centers have organized such rules as Stockholm Rules of Arbitration in Sweden and ICC in Paris and others. The study concluded with a set of results, the most important of which was that the emergency arbitrator is one of the modern rules that serve commercial arbitration, which began by relying on Western legal systems not Arab laws.

Findings Carbon and energy management is an action learning-based co-created course initiated by the Chamber to address an interest in mitigating climate change amongst local businesses. Among businesses, the carbon economy is under considerable discussion. The increased awareness of climate change, and the need to better manage carbon, has led to local businesses eager to reduce greenhouse gases but lacking the expertise necessary. UNBC students (undergraduate and graduate) learn innovative and practical skills through creating carbon footprint analyses for small- to medium-sized business/non-profit clients, providing recommendations on reducing reliance on fossil fuels and formally presenting their findings to their clients. After five years, 46 businesses and non-profit organizations have participated in the course along with over 30 students and 5 separately hired student interns. The Chamber is now rolling out the program for Canadian Chamber of Commerce interested in similar community–university partnerships. Originality/value This paper describes a course that is a novel approach to university–community partnerships, both in approach and focus area. The linking, through the course, of small- to medium-sized businesses with the provision of plans for carbon reduction developed by university students is an unusual approach. However, there is significant value to all partners in the approach. Allowing the main community partner to serve as the lead in the project also offers an unusual experience and perspective for the university partner, as often such partnerships are largely driven by the post-secondary institution’s interests and needs, which can create a challenging power dynamic. Instead, the course offers a lesson in how a university can be clearly in service to the community at the community’s invitation. Finally, this paper offers reflections on the value of this type of project for creating sustainability initiatives from the perspective of all participants, students, faculty, university administration, city government, participating businesses and the Chamber of Commerce, demonstrating the critical need for understanding a project as an intersection of all participating actors.

Abstract:
In 1958, the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce had to decide whether to remain active in politics, representing not only the commercial interests of the rich but also the views of Chinese society at large, or to function solely as a commercial organisation. The eventual success of the pro-politics faction illustrates the buoyant aspirations of the Chinese merchant elite. The public battle for control over the Chamber shows that Chinese businessmen assessed their options by pragmatically balancing political, economic as well as cultural constraints and opportunities.

Abstract:
Abstract As China opened up over the last thirty years and as huge numbers of foreign-invested enterprises flooded into China, foreign chambers of commerce, offering services to their members, have emerged and become increasingly influential. Foreign chambers of commerce have appeared mainly in China’s more economically prosperous regions and cities; their legal status varies; and they can be grouped into three types based on three general types of background. They also differ in terms of their internal governance and in terms of their members’ relations with the government and Party departments. Generally speaking, foreign chambers of commerce in China face certain institutional and administrative challenges. We must concentrate more attention on the development of foreign chambers of commerce in China. The principle of “one nation, one chamber” should be reformed and improved. We must re-establish integrated registration and filing systems for chambers, establish localized administration of chambers, and generally strengthen supervision and management of foreign chambers of commerce in China.
