Full textThe social work in pediatric oncology is quite a young professional area which is not yet fully developed. The oncology patients are children who together with their parents arrive to the hospital for a long stay and need help to adapt to new life situation. Especially parents need help in the first days and get some time to accept the diagnosis of their child and find ways how to fight with it. The social workers in pediatric oncology can provide help in the hospital and outside the hospital. However, it is not clear what role the social worker should have while helping the patients and their families in pediatric oncology area. The aim of the research is to analize what role does the social work theory and the Lithuanian jurisdiction delegate and what are the needs of oncology patients and their parents. The research was conducted according to the scientific literature analysis and the methods of the grounded theory. The social work roles were analysed according to such social work theory perspectives: the humanism-existencialim, behaviorsim, radical-marxist and empowerment and advocacy. There were six respondeds that participated in the research. Five of those were children oncology staff and the sixth respondend was a patient‘s father. According to the research results the administrator‘s role of the social worker in children‘s oncology area does not comply with social work theory. Full textThe aim of the study: To assess the need of multidisciplinary team formation from a perspective of doctors and nurses working in oncological hospital of Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Kaunas Clinics. Objectives: 1) To find out the attitude of doctors and nurses towards the need of multidisciplinary team; 2) To set the view on what kind of specialists are required for oncological patients according to doctors and nurses; 3) To compare opinions among doctors and nurses about the necessity of the multidisciplinary team. Research methodology: The research was carried out during July and August 2012 using an anonymous questionnaire method. Questionnaires were distributed among doctors and nurses working in four units of the oncological hospital. They were the following therapy units: conservative oncology, palliative oncology, surgery, anaesthetic and intensive therapy units. In total were distributed 127 questionnaires from which 114 questionnaires were returned (with a response rate of 89.8%). Statistical analysis of the data was done using SPSS 17.0 and MS Excel software. Statistical significance of the data was verified using statistical significance p value (p<0,05), chi-squared test, degrees of freedom and z value. Full textAim of the study. To evaluate the oncology patients` opinion about application of the doctrine of informed consent in the health care institution. Objectives. To evaluate patients` knowledge about the purpose of the doctrine of informed consent at the health care institution. To identify associations between oncology patients` opinion about application of the doctrine of informed consent, patients` gender and education. To identify associations between patients` satisfaction with given information about their disease and patients` opinion about the necessity of the doctrine of informed consent. Methods. Anonymous survey of 250 oncology patients (response rate – 75.7%) in health care institution was carried out. SPSS 13.0 version of statistic analysis program was used to process the data. Diagrams and tables were prepared using Microsoft Excel 2003 program. Results. Nearly half of the survey participants (44.8%) evaluated written informed consent procedure as protection instrument to the health care specialists. More than the one third (35.6%) of the participants thought that the doctrine of informed consent helped them to express their decision, to 18.8% of the survey participants the doctrine was formal procedure.
