Abstract:
The possibilities to manage the optical network with a logically centralized SDN control plane based on the Open Network Operating System (ONOS) are investigated. The structure of the controller and its main functional blocks are considered ensuring the collection of information about the state of network elements, the solution of the main control tasks, interaction of control systems built on different technological bases, are considered. The role and place of the open network operating system in the controller structure are shown, the description of the ONOS multilevel architecture in the form of a set of functional modules is given, the purpose and functions of the ONOS subsystems are analyzed, protocols and interfaces making it possible to present the SDN network as a model are described. The peculiarity of the model is that the managed network can be represented as a set of virtual network functions. Therefore, the control process becomes independent of which vendor's equipment was used to build the network, as well as whether the network is built on real physical elements or virtual ones. Using the ONOS allows you to build a logical centralized control plane in the SDN networks. The existing set of functional modules, services and interfaces in the ONOS allows you to perform optical network management tasks. For the further development of the ONOS, it is necessary to develop mathematical models and methods for the optimal solution of control problems in various operating conditions, which will become application-level software modules in the future.

Abstract:
Software Defined Network (SDN) provides high service flexibility to optimize network configuration based on network traffic. Traffic management able to solve traffic density in SDN. However, it will misuse the network bandwidth and links. One variant of the SDN controller, namely Open Network Operating System (ONOS), provides an Intent Monitor and Reroute (IMR) method that can optimize traffic management based on the description of an object in the ONOS application. This method can optimize the network bandwidth and links of SDN. The IMR can monitor the network and reconfigure the network to restore network connectivity by maximizing the use of each link when transmitting data. This study examines the impact of using IMR with a custom topology on ONOS to find the best scenario by performing traffic management on a data plane consisting of switches totaling 8-12 switches. The parameters measured in this study are bandwidth usage and quality of service (QoS). The results obtained in this study are IMR able to optimize the use of each link and maximize bandwidth usage in a network when distributing data and following TIPHON standards

Abstract:
Controllers are the key component of Software-defined Network (SDN) architecture. Given the diversity of open SDN controllers, the following question arises for the network administrators: How can we choose the appropriate SDN controller? Different characteristics of the controllers have greatly increased the complexity of the right decision. Multi-Criteria Decision-making Methods (MCDMs) is a family of robust mathematical tools to address complex problems regarding multiple objectives. In this paper, we study the most important features of SDN controllers. To this end, we compare the well-known SDN controllers including NOX, POX, Beacon, Floodlight, Ryu, ODL, and ONOS. Leveraging a novel MCDM technique called the Best–Worst Multi-criteria (BWM), we find the most appropriate SDN controller. We solve an optimization problem and evaluate its performance in terms of significant criteria such as throughput and latency. Initial evaluation revealed that the ONOS and ODL have the highest throughput, while the lowest throughputs belong to the NOX, POX, and Ryu. However, final evaluation concerning all criteria confirmed the robustness of the ONOS and the ODL compared to other controllers.

Abstract:
This article describes how novel functionalities will take advantage of the cloud networking and will gradually replace the existing infrastructure of mobile networks with a virtualized one. Two technologies, namely software defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV), offer their important benefits and a combination of them is an answer to the demands raised, such as central office re-architected as a data center (CORD). Open network operating system (ONOS) and POX are SDN controllers and offer an option to combine SDN and NFV addressing many ongoing problems in the field of mobile networks. In this paper, technologies and both controllers are compared and contrasted. Indicative cases of topologies are simulated and help evaluating both controllers. According to the experimental findings, ONOS is one of the most important controllers for practical, theoretical, research and educational purposes, while POX is a useful and simpler controller for other educative applications.

Abstract Software defined network is a new concept that separates the data plane from the control plane. The controller is an important thing in building a software defined network architecture, so information regarding controller performance is needed to determine the level of capability of a controller, some of the existing controllers include POX, Ryu and ONOS. This research uses a linear network topology that uses 10 switches and 10 host, 12 switches and 12 host, 14 switches and 14 host and 16 switches and 16 host on 50 Mbps to 200 Mbps background traffic. From this test, the results show that the increase in throughput, delay and jitter values is directly proportional to the increase in the number of switches, the POX controller has the best performance compared to the Ryu and ONOS controllers with the throughput value obtained from 5,139,456 Kbits/sec to 5,142,139 Kbits/sec. , for the delay value obtained is 0.078 ms to 0.110 ms while the jitter value is obtained from 0.037 ms to 0.070 ms.

Abstract:
For service providers, extending the Software Defined Network (SDN) concept from packet switching in Layers 2 and 3 to circuit switching in transport layers is a promising approach to meet high burstiness and high bandwidth requirements. A multi-layer controller that can provide automated controller-based restoration and protection, even for unprotected links in a multi-administrative domain, would be a significant improvement. It would allow service providers to ensure provision of guaranteed Service Level Agreement (SLA) maintenance, with optimal bandwidth usage, high availability and reduced errors. In this thesis, we propose a Software Defined Survivable Optical Interconnect (SDSOI) architecture for Data Centers (DC). This unique architecture will address service providers’ challenges related to bandwidth management, and optimize the time required while interconnecting numerous DCs to meet the high SLA demands. The architecture is built according to the overlay SDN concept, and categorizes the application layers into online, offline and third party applications. The offline application performs the routine DC tasks, while the online application manages various dynamic DC demands. An SDSOI driven Data Center Optical Interconnect (DCOI) can handle the extensive, high quality, on-demand access to the contents. The feasibility of SDSOI is verified and demonstrated using Open Network Operating System (ONOS) as the SDN controller, Mininet as the network emulator and Optical Transport Network (OTN) as the optical framework. Our work primarily focusses on the creation of business applications in the SDSOI model, and the northbound protocols or interfaces used by the applications to interact with the controller. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed SDSOI architecture and its business applications, we simulated ‘Day Night Scheduling’, an application that combines characteristics of offline and online applications. Its primary function is to package and schedule varying DC bandwidths to service providers and optimize bandwidth usage at different times of day, along with the survivability of the interconnects.

Abstract:
This study focuses on gathering information about Software Defined Networking, it's protocols ans it's controllers. What I have learned doing this will be used to evaluate two different controllers, POX and ONOS. A traditional network setup will be set up physically and serve as a base when it comes to comparing the controllers. The traditional setup includes two routers and four switches, and among the tested characteristics are layer 2 and 3 and it's redundancy protocols. The controllers will then be used to try and live up to the same characteristics. The result of this study shows that neither POX nor ONOS could be used for every scenario tested, not with the basic modules the controllers comes with. It also showed that the characteristics they did manage was a fair bit easier to setup and monitor compared to it's traditional counterparts, thus showing the importance of figuring out what is needed from a network before trying to find a fitting solution to how it needs to be set up. All the information gathered in this study is also used to create a lab instruction meant to introduce others to the concepts of SDN. It explores how to use Mininet to virtualise a network environment, how to install flows using OpenFlow and how to use a controller to simplify the management of the network.

Abstract:
Telecommunication networks are meant to be efficient, transparent, and accessible to the broadest possible set of users. However, they are very complex systems, in which a large number of components cooperates, posing a challenge to the desired efficiency, transparency and ease of access. Emerging technological paradigms such as Software Defined Networking (SDN), Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and Cloud Computing open up to a whole new set of possible applications for the infrastructure, or better ways to implement traditional services, but also introduce new environments to be controlled. One of the main challenges in delivering end-to-end service chains across multiple SDN, NFV and Cloud domains is to achieve unified management and orchestration functions. A very critical aspect is the definition of an open, vendor-agnostic, and interoperable northbound interface (NBI) that should be as abstracted as possible from domain-specific data and control plane technologies, making the underlying infrastructure easier to be accessed, while still allowing a fair amount of flexibility and freedom in programmability of the network. In this document we describe a reference architecture and expand an intent-based NBI for end-to-end service orchestration across multiple technological domains. More specifically, we consider the use case of an Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure deployment and the corresponding Cloud-based data collection, processing, and publishing services, differentiating multiple Quality of Service (QoS) classes. Finally we report the experimental validation of the proposed architecture over a heterogeneous, multi-domain SDN test bed.

Abstract:
Software-Defined-Network (SDN) is emerging as a solid opportunity for the Network Service Providers (NSP) to reduce costs while at the same time providing better and/or new services. The possibility to flexibly manage and configure highly-available and scalable network services through data model abstractions and easy-to-consume APIs is attractive and the adoption of such technologies is gaining momentum. At the same time, NSPs are planning to innovate their infrastructures through a process of network softwarisation and programmability. The SDN paradigm aims at improving the design, configuration, maintenance and service provisioning agility of the network through a centralised software control. This can be easily achievable in local area networks, typical of data-centers, where the benefits of having programmable access to the entire network is not restricted by latency between the network devices and the SDN controller which is reasonably located in the same LAN of the data path nodes. In Wide Area Networks (WAN), instead, a centralised control plane limits the speed of responsiveness in reaction to time-constrained network events due to unavoidable latencies caused by physical distances. Moreover, an end-to-end control shall involve the participation of multiple, domain-specific, controllers: access devices, data-center fabrics and backbone networks have very different characteristics and their control-plane could hardly coexist in a single centralised entity, unless of very complex solutions which inevitably lead to software bugs, inconsistent states and performance issues. In recent years, the idea to exploit SDN for WAN infrastructures to connect multiple sites together has spread in both the scientific community and the industry. The former has produced interesting results in terms of framework proposals, complexity and performance analysis for network resource allocation schemes and open-source proof of concept prototypes targeting SDN architectures spanning multiple technological and administrative domains. On the other hand, much of the work still remains confined to the academy mainly because based on pure Openflow prototype implementation, networks emulated on a single general-purpose machine or on simulations proving algorithms effectiveness. The industry has made SDN a reality via closed-source systems, running on single administrative domain networks with little if no diversification of access and backbone devices. In this dissertation we present our contributions to the design and the implementation of SDN architectures for the control plane of WAN infrastructures. In particular, we studied and prototyped two SDN platforms to build a programmable, intent-based, control-plane suitable for the today highly distributed cloud infrastructures. Our main contributions are: (i) an holistic and architectural description of a distributed SDN control-plane for end-end QoS provisioning; we compare the legacy IntServ RSVP protocol with a novel approach for prioritising application-sensitive flows via centralised vantage points. It is based on a peer-to-peer architecture and could so be suitable for the inter-authoritative domains scenario. (ii) An open-source platform based on a two-layer hierarchy of network controllers designed to provision end-to-end connectivity in real networks composed by heterogeneous devices and links within a single authoritative domain. This platform has been integrated in CORD, an open-source project whose goal is to bring data-center economics and cloud agility to the NSP central office infrastructures, combining NFV (Network Function Virtualization), SDN and the elasticity of commodity clouds. Our platform enables the provisioning of connectivity services between multiple CORD sites, up to the customer premises. Thus our system and software contributions in SDN has been combined with a NFV infrastructure for network service automation and orchestration.

Abstract:
This thesis investigates the topic of verifying network status validity with a Cyber Security perspective. The fields of interest are dynamic networks like OpenFlow and Software Defined Networks, where these problems may have larger attack surface and greater impact. The framework under study is called Header Space Analysis, a formal model and protocol-agnostic framework that allows to perform static policy checking both in classical TCP/IP networks and modern dynamic SDN. The goal is to analyse some classes of network failure, declaring valid network states and recognizing invalid ones. HSA has evolved in NetPlumber, to face problems caused by high dynamics of SDN networks. The main difference between HSA and NetPlumber is the incremental way that the latter performs checks and keeps state updated, verifying the actual state compliance with the expected state defined in its model, but the concept is the same: declare what's allowed and recognize states violating that model. The second and main contribute of this thesis is to expand existing vision with the purpose of increasing the network security degree, introducing model-checking-based networks through the definition of an abstraction layer that provides a security-focused model-checking service to SDN. The developed system is called MCS (Model Checking Service) and is implemented for an existing SDN solution called ONOS, using NetPlumber as underlying model-checking technology, but it's validity is general, uncoupled with any kind of SDN implementation. Finally, the demo shows how some cases of well-known security attacks in modern networks can be prevented or mitigated using the reactive behavior of MCS.

Abstract:

Abstract:
As a result of the explosion in the number of services offered over the Internet, network traffic has experienced a remarkable increment and is supposed to increase even more in the few next years. Therefore, Telco operators are investigating new solutions aiming at managing this traffic efficiently and transparently to guarantee the users the needed Quality of Service. The most viable solution is to have a paradigm shift in the networking field: the old and legacy routing will be indeed replaced by something more dynamic, through the use of Software Defined Networking. In addition to it, Network Functions Virtualization will play a key role making possible to virtualize the intermediate nodes implementing network functions, also called middle-boxes, on general purpose hardware. The most suitable environment to understand their potentiality is the Cloud, where resources, as computational power, storage, development platforms, etc. are outsourced and provided to the user as a service on a pay-per-use model. All of this is done in a complete dynamic way, as a result of the presence of the implementation of the above cited paradigms. However, whenever it comes to strict requirements, Telecommunication Networks are still underperforming: one of the cause is the weak integration among these paradigms to reactively intervene to the users' need. It is therefore remarkably important to properly evaluate solutions where SDN and NFV are cooperating actively inside the Cloud, leading to more adaptive systems. In this document, after the description of the state of the art in networking, the deployment of an OpenStack Cloud platform on an outperforming cluster will be shown. In addition, its networking capabilities will be improved via a careful cloud firewalling configuration; moreover, this cluster will be integrated with Open Source SDN frameworks to enhance its services. Finally, some measurements showing how much this approach could be interesting will be provided.

This work describes the synthesis of 4,5-dihydropirazoles through a sonochemical methodology, from the reaction of cyclocondensation of 1,3-diaryl-2-propen-1-ones with aminoguanidine hydrochloride and thiosemicarbazide. These reactions were carried out in ethanol in periods of reduced time concerning to the methods described in the literature. Then, it presents the use of methyl 7,7,7-trichloro-4-methoxy-6-oxo-4-heptenoate for the preparation of a series of ten 1-alkyl(aryl)-5-(3,3,3-trichloro-2-oxopropylidene)pyrrolidin-2-ones, like at a Paal-Knorr synthesis. This transformation can occur with or without isolation of intermediates methyl 4-alkyl(aryl)amino-7,7,7-trichloro-6-oxo-4-heptenoates without significant change in the yields. Subsequently, it was studied the synthetic potential of the previously synthesized pyrrolidin-2-ones front to bromination for getting eight new 1-alkyl(aryl)- 4-bromo-5-(3,3,3-trihalo-2-oxopropylidene)pyrrolidin-2-ones. Bromination occurred in a regiospecific way at 4-position with good yields. Finally, 1-alkyl(aryl)-5-(3,3,3- trihalo-2-oxopropylidene)-1H-pyrrol-2(5H)-ones were obtained from the elimination of the HBr, in alkaline medium, of the brominated pyrrolidin-2-ones.

The goal of this thesis is to reflect upon the role, the reach and the meaning of the action of the NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations) in relationship to their acting in a democratic context, emphasizing the transformations of the modus operandi of a part of these organizations, especially from the nineties on. The analytical option adopted in this research describes the action of the NGOs in Brazil in their institutional perspective, adopting as the principal theoretic orientation the habermasian reflection as critical and (re) construction of the rational paradigm of modernity. By reflecting on the concept of democracy and by emphasizing, for purposes of this research, its formal-institutional aspect, it's possible to observe that the NGOs were created as an alternative to consolidation of a democratic praxis. The initial characteristics of the original NGOs in the seventies, such as their informal character and their orientation toward fighting against the State in favor of social demands suffered a radical transformation in the nineties. Based on a constitutional legality, the way these organizations function has furnished them with an increasingly formal character, to such a point that a new legal term has been created called OSCIPs (Civil Society Organizations of Public Interest). The criticism against the State has become more purposeful with the direct involvement of these organizations in the execution of public policies. Considering this historical process the research suggests that this possibility of institutional articulation between the civil society and the State, which in a growing way has also interfered in the relationship of the market, impact positively on all social areas. This way the chances of strengthening and deepening the condition of exercising democracy with the participation and control of diverse social agents in the action has grown, thus, a transition and transformation of the mediation systems of the NGOs with the civil society, the State, and the market has occurred.

Abstract:

Young Ones is a collection of short stories about young adult narrators navigating interpersonal relationships. In this collection, both males and females living in the Pacific Northwest interact with family, friends, and lovers. Through these interactions, they come to discover aspects of themselves at crucial moments in their lives. Many of these stories are less concerned with plot and more concerned with inner truths about relationships and selves. These revelations occur through epiphanies at the end of the stories, and the settings help provide subtext. It is my hope that these stories provide further depth to the young adult genre.
