This study analyzes the temporal diffusion of software sourcing arrangements by applying innovation diffusion theories. The study tests the co-diffusion effects 1) between onshoring and offshoring and 2) between insourcing and outsourcing. The results from the analysis indicate the existence of one-way complementary co-diffusion effects between on-shoring and offshoring and between outsourcing and in-housing. Positive, significant effects of innovation were found for in-housed, on-shored, and offshored software projects. Furthermore, a negative, significant effect of imitation was found for ou

During the same period, the United States semiconductor manufacturing, accounting for 1.7% of the total of the United States manufacturing workforce, lost 35% of its employees. The decline in semiconductor manufacturing jobs began in 1985 when semiconductor firms began offshoring product manufacturing overseas because of low cost of qualified labor force and facilities. Background: A growing reshoring trend has recently been discovered, when companies bring back their manufacturing to the domestic country. Reshoring has received more public attention recently and the interest in reshoring strategies is growing. The knowledge about the reshoring decision is however limited and there is not a great deal of research addressing this. The knowledge about how companies have performed their cost analysis is limited as well as the risk assessments behind the reshoring decision. Hence, there is a knowledge gap regarding what cost and risk factors that are critical to

Informational technology outsourcing has been increasing in popularity over the last decades. It became a trend to transfer IT related processes and activities to an external provider, often located not only in a different country, but on a different continent. Outsourcing IT porcesses to an external provider is an appealing prospect, since the firm can transfer the resources from IT to more important processes. Moreover, since provider can be chosen from virtually anywhere in the world, there is a valid chance of significant IT costs reduction. All those benefits, however, are far from guaran

Abstract This chapter assesses some implications of Brexit for those classes of market participant and activity regulated under the EMIR. EMIR is an EU regulation which seeks to establish a framework throughout the EU for the regulation of derivatives trading and post-trade activities. It primarily affects three classes of market participant: persons dealing in derivatives (counterparties); trade repositories; and central counterparties. As the mere incorporation of EU regulations into UK law would not create a workable framework for the UK regulation of derivatives markets post-Brexit, UK law

We first discuss the basic sourcing strategies (insourcing and outsourcing) and the shoring strategies (onshoring and offshoring). We then move deep and wide into the maze and unravel the multiple alternatives that businesses exercise in order to get the best deal for their information system (IS) nee
