(Extract) An Open Access (OA) journal can be defined as a journal that is digital, online and free of charges for every internet user, also it does not really require any copyrights or licensing restrictions. All over the world, scientists are looking for journals that maximize and emphasise the chances of their work being cited because of citations valorize their work and they somehow award the authors and give them an intellectual recognition.

Abstract:
As journal publishing continues to evolve, the access policies of publishers become more differentiated. The open access movement has been an important catalyst for change in this regard, prodding publishers to reexamine their access policies and, in some cases, to move towards new access models. To fully understand where things stand with journal access policies, we need to clarify and name the policies in use. This paper attempts to provide a first-cut model for key journal access policies, adopting the now popular use of colors as a second form of shorthand for identifying the policy types.

Usage statistics for electronic resources are needed, and highly desirable, for many reasons. It is encouraging to see the beginnings of quality, reliable usage data. This data can form the basis of economic decisions (selection and cancellation) that make a great deal of sense in the context of the individual library. However, the cumulative effects of such decisions could have serious implications for scholarly communications. For example, the journals of small research communities could easily be vulnerable to mass cancellations, and might fold. Fortunately, open access provides an alternat

AbstractFinding a suitable open access journal to publish scientific work is a complex task: Researchers have to navigate a constantly growing number of journals, institutional agreements with publishers, funders’ conditions and the risk of Predatory Publishers. To help with these challenges, we introduce a web-based journal recommendation system called B!SON. It is developed based on a systematic requirements analysis, built on open data, gives publisher-independent recommendations and works across domains. It suggests open access journals based on title, abstract and references provided by the user. The recommendation quality has been evaluated using a large test set of 10,000 articles. Development by two German scientific libraries ensures the longevity of the project.

AbstractThere was a time when articles about Shakespeare were published around the globe, but few knew where to find them all. Shakespeare studies thrived in non-Anglophone countries in the Global South: articles appeared in regional journals, institutional bulletins, and society newsletters, each of which might have a publication run of only a few dozen copies. This chapter traces the move from regionalized Shakespeare publication to truly global publication. It considers how online publishing (including open journal systems and open-access publishing), institutional repositories, and digital bibliography make research from around the Globe findable. This chapter examines how the World Shakespeare Bibliography participates in global Shakespeare studies by making multilingual criticism, editions, and performances searchable.

Abstract:
AbstractThe ICL new open-access book series “Progress in Landslide Research and Technology” was launched in 2022, and the founding issues, Vol.1, No.1 and No.2 2022 were successfully published by active authors, KLC2020 official promoters as well as voluntary volume editors. The starting point of this new book series is the publication of the journal “Landslides” of the ICL in 2004. Based on the experience and the assets of good editors and enthusiastic authors through these 18 years, the ICL and journal editors have been challenged to launch the Open Access Book Series “Progress in Landslide Research and Technology” in 2022.The book series provides a joint platform for the publication of recent progress in landslide research and technology for practical applications and the benefit for the society contributing to the Kyoto Landslide Commitment 2020, which is expected to continue until 2030 and beyond to globally promote the understanding and reduction of landslide disaster risk, as well as to address and help implementing the UN 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals. This short article states firstly the financial management (Book Processing Charge: BPC), which is the most important for the sustainability of publishing an open access book series, and the selection of cover photo and the issue editors on the front cover. Number of issue editors were changed from 5 for Volume 1 Issue 1, to 9 for Volume 1 Issue 2 and 11 for Volume 2 Issue 1. Secondly, the creation of a new Award related to this book series, and the support of the core activities of the International Programme on Landslides (IPL): A Programme of the ICL for Landslide Disaster Risk Reduction through this book series are explained. The countries of the authors, and the number of pages and articles of eight categories were compared in the founding two issues and the first issue of the second year. Finally, the oral presentation opportunity on their results for the authors of P-RLT in 2023 is introduced. We had the first oral presentation opportunity at the ICL 20th Anniversary and IPL-KLC Symposium in November 2022. Authors obtained something different merits from printed publication as from oral presentation. We have a plan to offer the next opportunity for orally presenting the results in June and November, 2023.

Abstract:
AbstractThe principal aim of this paper is to contest the neoliberal discourse of the World Class University (WCU). The first section provides an understanding of the concept of the WCU within the context of a global competitive model of the knowledge economy and contrasts it with the social-democratic model based on open science and education that also provides links between new modes of openness, academic publishing and the world journal architecture. The paper makes the case for ‘knowledge socialism’ that accurately depicts the greater communitarian moment of the sharing and participative academic economy based on peer-to-peer production, social innovation and collective intelligence. It instantiates the notion of knowledge as a global public good. Profound changes in the nature of technology has enabled a kind of ‘digital socialism’ which is clearly evident in the shift in political economy of academic publishing based Open Access, cOAlition S, and ‘Plan S’ (mandated in 2020) established by national research funding organisations in Europe with the support of the European Commission and the European Research Council (ERC). The social democratic alternative to neoliberalism and the WCU is a form of the sharing academic economy known as ‘knowledge socialism’. Universities need to share knowledge in the search for effective responses to pressing world problems of fragile global ecologies and the growing significance of technological unemployment. This is a model that proceeds from a very different set of economic and moral assumptions than the neoliberal knowledge economy and the WCU.

Morelle, Louis. "Speculative Realism." In Speculations 3, translated by Leah Orth. punctum books, 2012. https://doi.org/10.21983/p3.0010.1.11.

Full text
Abstract:
Presented as the first signifi-cant movement in continental philosophy since structuralism, speculative realism (SR) vociferously announces the end of correlationism and anthropocentrism in philosophy in favor of a “speculative turn.” By accommodating things, matter, sci-ence, and the real qua objects as important as (if not more so than) language, thought, the phenomenal, and the social, SR has garnered attention and criticism from all sides these past few years. “Speculative Realism” was originally the title of a conference in 2007 that brought together four lesser-known but promising philosophers, and then it subsequently spread like wildfire via the Internet through blogs and open-access publishers, in addition to the traditional journal articles, books, colloquia, conferences and other official channels of academia. It has now become a “legitimate” subject of scholarship, taught in certain departments of contemporary philosophy and aesthetics and acquiring a section on the website Phil-papers. And yet, what is SR? For SR seems to have become, in Anglo-Saxon “continental” circles, a buzzword, one of these fashionable terms whose meaning is obscured the more it spreads. Originally naming a philosophically diverse core of young philosophers seeking to emphasize themes that have become relatively marginal in continental philosophy such as metaphysical speculation, the inorganic, or the absolute, and united by a common refusal to attend solely to textual objects or phenomenal experience, this vague designation has sparked a diffuse desire among continental intellectuals to break with some presuppositions inherited from previous generations. Crystallizing a Zeitgeist, the term has lost its specificity, becoming the generic name for all those among the philosophical “young guard” who are laying claim to a “new metaphysics.”

Abstract:
Contrary to a widespread belief that open access publications are paid by their authors, a significant amount of scientific articles are published with no fees to both readers and authors (or “Diamond” model). In 2021, it is estimated that between 17,000 and 29,000 scientific journals rely on a Diamond model. 73% of the journals registered in the Directory of Open Access Journals charge no fee. The Diamond model is attested on a world wide scale. It is especially prevalent in Latin America (95% of journals) following the emergence of large publicly-supported platforms, such as SciELO and Redal

Abstract:
Background: The tens of thousands of academic journal websites that are on the Internet today often do not have a clear organizational structure for their website. If most of them are convenient enough for readers (if the journal is open access), then many have problems informing authors about the conditions, the process of submitting and reviewing the manuscript. The Editorial Offices empirically populate the journal's website with content that can change dramatically (both in terms of website design and content) as the journal develops. Aim of Study: To develop a website model for an academi

Open access (OA) and the broad sharing of research outputs has been empirically shown to accelerate scientific progress and benefit society and individuals at scale through improved health outcomes, socioeconomic mobility, and environmental well-being, to name a few. Academic research libraries, for their part, have made significant investments in opening up research and scholarship—particularly research conducted on their campuses and made available through journal subscriptions. Yet these investments are difficult to collect given their distribution across many budget lines, the lack of stan

Female-coded family work keeps women away from late working life – but it makes a difference where in Europe they live because Nordic countries do not recognize this divide. Key Findings Childcare impacts upon late working life – women tend to be employed part time or outside paid labor if they engaged in childcare during earlier life stages; men with children are more likely to be in full-time employment. Women are more affected by early working life decisions – previous labor-market participation or a reduction in working hours due to childcare obligations have a greater impact on late worki
