Abstract:
The author provides a book review of Open Source ESB in Action. This book as one of a few sources of information for IT architects as well as integration developers who wish to use an open source Enterprise Service Bus (ESB). The book provides the introduction to the two open source ESB’s - Mule and Service Mix ESBs - with plenty of examples. In this review we looked at the following points: 1. How the architecture of the ESBs and processing environment are treated, 2. Is the robustness or lack of it highlighted for both products, 3. Are there pointers to appropriate tooling for developers and, 4. Are there pointers and references to the on-line documentation

Abstract:
The growing interest in business integration and interoperability of IT systems led to an increase in the importance of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA), which provides tools for Enterprise Application Integration (EAI). In this sense, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) provides technical capabilities for communication between IT systems. The aim of this article is to present the results of performance tests of selected ESBs of Open Source type. The basis for our performance analysis was a business case of the order realization in the Internet shop of electronics retailer. The order realization requires a collaboration of three IT systems. The business case has been implemented with the use of each selected ESBs: WSO2, Mule, and Talend. Test scenarios were defined and performance tests were conducted for each of the three selected ESBs. On the basis of the collected results it can be concluded that each service bus has its own strengths and weaknesses. Focusing on the merits it should be noted that WSO2 copes very well with files of small size, for small number of users, and also does not burden the CPU significantly. Results for Talend ESB, show that it does well with both kind of files, small and large sizes, for large number of users, but harder utilizes CPU. Research shows that it is worth to analyze the parameters of transmitted messages while selecting ESB for building integration solution. The results show that the Talend ESB may be a good choice for construction of integration solution in a business environment with a large number of users and diversified communications. Abstract:
The article presents issues related to the use of electronic security systems (ESB) on a vast railway area. These systems are operated in very different environmental conditions. Due to the fact that electrical and electronic systems coexist on the extensive railway area for various purposes - e.g. power supply systems for railway traction, rail traffic control systems (SRK), electronic security systems - fire alarm system (SSP), CCTV system (CCTV), access control system (SKD), a significant operational problem in addition to environmental changes in which the above-mentioned technical facilities are used, there is also the issue of electromagnetic compatibility. Depending on the area extent of the railway area, construction, technical configuration, way of alarming, safety classes of these systems may be different. In SSP there is another factor that affects the configuration of these systems, namely the so-called fire scenario and how to notify the State Fire Service (PSP) about an existing fire risk or damage. There are several different ESB structures - focused, distributed and mixed. The type of ESB used in a given railway facility - construction or open area is conditioned by its cubic capacity [m3], terrain extent [m2 or km2] and the number of supervised facilities. The use of a given type of ESB to ensure safety and fire protection in a given railway area also depends on the requirements of legal provisions for the object(s), the fire scenario that must be implemented by the system, legal requirements for the given protected area, the accepted scope of protection and the reliability and operational requirements to be met by these installations. The article presents basic issues related to ESB operation that are used in the selected railway area. The review of technical solutions of selected ESBs and the methodology of conducting the analysis for the purposes of developing, e.g. fire scenario or hazard analysis, presented in the article, will enable railway facility designers to properly develop design assumptions.

Abstract:
Recently piglets have been produced from morulae and early blastocysts vitrified by using methods such as open pulled straw and microdroplet. However, a problem of pollution, such as contamination of embryos with pathological microorganisms from the liquid nitrogen (LN), to the embryos is possible, because embryos must be exposed directly to LN in these methods. Therefore, we designed a new device in which the embryo is vitrified on the stainless steel chip inserted into a 0.25-mL straw without direct contact with LN. To serve as a stainless steel chip, a part of the body of a 19 G needle was cut to reveal its inner surface as the loading site for embryos, and 2 to 15 embryos in a small amount of a vitrification solution were placed on the inner surface of the needle. Then the needle with the embryos was inserted into the 0.25-mL straw which was pre-cooled in LN. This study was conducted to determine the efficiency of vitrification using the new device for porcine embryos at early developmental stages. In Experiment 1, embryos at the compact morula to early blastocyst stages were collected from 7 gilts. The embryos were equilibrated in 20 mM HEPES-buffered PZM (Yoshioka et al. 2003 Biol. Reprod. 69, 2092–2099) (H-PZM) supplemented with 1.8 M ethylene glycol (EG), and then in 1.8 M EG, 0.3 M sucrose, and 2% (w/v) bovine serum albumin (BSA) for 5 min. After equilibration, the embryos were vitrified using H-PZM supplemented with 0.6 M sucrose, 2% (w/v) BSA, and 4 M, 5 M, 6 M, or 7 M EG (ESB). The vitrified embryos were thawed, diluted by directly plunging the needle of the device into H-PZM supplemented with 1.8 M EG and 0.6 M sucrose for 5 min at 38C, and subsequently cultured in PZM supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum for 48 h; fresh embryos were cultured as a control group. In Experiment 2, embryos were vitrified using 5 M EG ESB, and then 56 vitrified embryos (collected from 4 gilts) were transferred to 4 recipient gilts (12 to 15 embryos per recipient). In Experiment 1, the survival rates of vitrified embryos after 48 h of culture in 4 M, 5 M, 6 M, 7 M, and control groups were 72.7, 86.4, 90.0, 87.0, and 100% (n = 20 to 23), respectively. The 4 M group showed a significantly lower survival rate than the control group (P < 0.05; chi-square test). The expanding and hatching rates of the vitrified embryos in these groups after 48 h of culture were 68.2, 77.3, 70.0, 65.2, and 95.0%, respectively. The 7 M group had a significantly lower expanding and hatching rate than the control group (P < 0.05). In Experiment 2, 3 recipients showed estrus at 19, 29, and 44 days after their previous estrus. One recipient became pregnant and 6 normal live piglets were born. These results indicated that porcine embryos at the compact morula to early blastocyst stages can survive after vitrification using our new device, which can prevent embryos from direct exposure to LN, and that piglets can be obtained from vitrified embryos without fear of pollution from LN.

Abstract:
Corallococcus sp. strain EGB is a Gram-negative myxobacteria isolated from saline soil, and has considerable potential for the biocontrol of phytopathogenic fungi. However, the detailed mechanisms related to development and predatory behavior are unclear. To obtain a comprehensive overview of genetic features, the genome of strain EGB was sequenced, annotated, and compared with 10 other Corallococcus species. The strain EGB genome was assembled as a single circular chromosome of 9.4 Mb with 7916 coding genes. Phylogenomics analysis showed that strain EGB was most closely related to Corallococcus interemptor AB047A, and it was inferred to be a novel species within the Corallococcus genus. Comparative genomic analysis revealed that the pan-genome of Corallococcus genus was large and open. Only a small proportion of genes were specific to strain EGB, and most of them were annotated as hypothetical proteins. Subsequent analyses showed that strain EGB produced abundant extracellular enzymes such as chitinases and β-(1,3)-glucanases, and proteases to degrade the cell-wall components of phytopathogenic fungi. In addition, 35 biosynthetic gene clusters potentially coding for antimicrobial compounds were identified in the strain EGB, and the majority of them were present in the dispensable pan-genome with unexplored metabolites. Other genes related to secretion and regulation were also explored for strain EGB. This study opens new perspectives in the greater understanding of the predatory behavior of strain EGB, and facilitates a potential application in the biocontrol of fungal plant diseases in the future.

Abstract:
System integration is a challenging task for large organizations since they must manage complex IT infrastructures, and utilize hundreds of applications that cause a myriad of complications as a result of rapidly evolving systems and technologies. Over time customer requirements and the automation of internal business functions forced the gigantic service providers to develop and buy applications for different purposes. Not many years before, the applications in an organization were usually separated silos, specifically designed to answer a particular problem. However, this way of working was not efficient. It is not impossible to design one application that runs the total business, however, in reality it can't respond to all the needs inside an organization. In most cases the applications need to interact with each other and to reuse functionalities or data. At this point the concept of integrating systems first came to existence. The progress in computer science and information technology has also affected the way that integration between applications was developed and designed over the years. This shows that there's always some new method that should be studied and investigated. In recent years, the Enterprise Service Bus has come to the market and there are many vendors in the market claiming that they have produced the exact solution needed for requirements of organizations. In this work, the attempt was to construct an understanding of the Enterprise Application Integration practices and methods which have been utilized over the years. Mixed methods research a combination of interviews and questionnaire, and Design Science Research methods were used to generate empirical results. While the first two methods was used to supply the input for challenges of system integration, the DSR build and evaluate method was employed to test the ESB product. The criteria for the test were developed mostly as the outcome of interviews and the questionnaire as the main challenge. The aim was to verify efficiency and effectiveness of the selected and proposed ESB under special designed DSR build and evaluate phases. As a result of both theoretical and empirical studies in combination with selection of different methods in Information System research, the work presents a knowledge foundation for organizations with the aim to make a change in their current system integration practices and patterns utilizing approaches facilitated by ESB products.

Roberts, B. L. H. "A quantitative examination of ostensibly extrasensory experiences occurring spontaneously and in laboratory conditions." Thesis, Coventry University, 2013. http://curve.coventry.ac.uk/open/items/32c604e4-7885-45ae-b7f4-4b2293654689/1.

Abstract:
Parapsychological research, including the examination of the anomalous process termed ‘psi’, is highly controversial, with the existence of psi not accepted by mainstream science. The aim of this thesis was to study one aspect of psi, extrasensory perception (ESP), to examine whether evidence for ESP could be obtained or whether ostensibly extrasensory experiences can be attributed to purely psychological processes. Three studies are reported. The first obtained reports of spontaneous cases of ostensible ESP from 94 participants, using an online survey. Participants described their experience and responded to a series of questions regarding the aftermath of their experience and their reasoning for a paranormal interpretation. Results demonstrated several patterns that replicated earlier findings, including the predominance of female percipients, serious events, and close relationships between the percipient and target person. Negative emotions were common, including shock and confusion, particularly at the point of ostensible confirmation of the experience; the most common long-term response was an increase in paranormal belief, although some participants were relatively unaffected. Approximately two-thirds of participants had considered viable normal explanations for their experience, including coincidence and expectation of likely outcomes. Paranormal explanations were commonly attributed to the lack of a viable normal explanation, the striking coincidence between the experience and event, or the unusual nature of the experience. Many cases were weak evidentially; findings overall suggest that many ostensibly extrasensory experiences may have non-psi explanations. Two subsequent studies examined ESP in laboratory conditions, using the ganzfeld paradigm. Based on findings from spontaneous case research and previous laboratory studies, it was examined whether success was related to the emotional bond between pairs of participants, or to their sexes. The first study employed 30 pairs of participants, each taking part once as sender and once as receiver. Picture postcards were used as targets, and an emotional connectedness scale was used to assess pairing closeness. Direct hits and binary hits were above mean chance expectation (MCE); both were non-significant, although binary hitting was only marginally so. Results were suggestive of improved performance for closer pairings and mixed-sex pairings, but were non-significant. The second study was a partial replication, with 40 pairs of participants and using video clips as targets. EEG recordings were taken from the frontal midline (Fz) site of both participants. Approximately half of senders experienced stroboscopic stimulation at 6Hz throughout the trial in an attempt to drive theta rhythms associated with a hypnagogic state, mirroring the state expected in receivers due to ganzfeld stimulation. Direct hits were at MCE, while binary hits were non-significantly above MCE; binary hitting across the two studies was significant. There was no effect of pairing closeness or sexes on success, and hitting was not associated with any EEG features or with strobe usage. Overall, laboratory findings appeared promising in terms of significant binary hitting but continued a trend of inconsistency within and between ganzfeld ESP studies. This inconsistency, together with the many weakly evidential spontaneous cases collected, point more strongly to a psychological interpretation of ostensibly extrasensory experiences, rather than the elusive psi.

Abstract:
This thesis contributes to knowledge about how Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) as educational online platforms can be utilized in achieving the purposes of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Starting out from a view that, in the face of global challenges every individual is an important actor with agency to drive for necessary social changes, the overall ambition of this thesis is to investigate the role of MOOCs, as a specific form of online learning, in empowering and enabling learners to acquire the competences needed to take responsible actions and informed decisions in a rapidly changing, interdependent and unequal world. More specifically, this thesis aims at providing a deeper insight into the question of whether the pedagogic approaches used in ESD (learner-centered, action-oriented and transformative learning) and the learning processes that they promote, can be incorporated in the MOOC environment. This issue holds importance due to the global and intergenerational character of ESD where providing access to training and learning for sustainable development for all is vital. In this respect, MOOCs have been envisioned as revolutionary in the provision of access to education to a wider audience. Nevertheless, the “massive” part of MOOCs could pose a challenge in connection to ESD, due to the fact that ESD is not easily generalized and aims at upholding local relevance. Therefore, this thesis also looks into the question of the implications posed by scale and the issue of scalability when investigating how MOOCs can enable the application of ESD pedagogic approaches, thus also contributing to the achievement of the purposes and learning objectives of ESD and Climate Change Education as its constituent part. Utilizing a case study methodology, the MOOC in Climate Change Leadership at Uppsala University is chosen as a case example of the MOOC learning environment and learning circumstances. By conducting a content analysis of the MOOC materials as presented on the online platform, and developing an analytical framework based on the ESD pedagogic approaches, this thesis reaches the conclusion that some aspects of the ESD approaches benefit from the networked environment and large-scale participation in the MOOC environment, while the incorporation of others is more challenging and asks for further research and improvement of the MOOC learning environment in order for them to provide for the optimal learning circumstances and outcomes in connection to ESD.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Optimized implementations of blocking and nonblocking collective operations are most important for scalable high-performance applications. Offloading such collective operations into the communication layer can improve performance and asynchronous progression of the operations. However, it is most important that such offloading schemes remain flexible in order to support user-defined (sparse neighbor) collective communications. In this work, we describe an operating system kernel-based architecture for implementing an interpreter for the flexible Group Operation Assembly Language (GOAL) framework to offload collective communications. We describe an optimized scheme to store the schedules that define the collective operations and show an extension to profile the performance of the kernel layer. Our microbenchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach and we show performance improvements over traditional progression in user-space. We also discuss complications with the design and offloading strategies in general.

The analysis explores the context of creation of local parties ? liberals and conservatives ? through three ways: the press, the Provincial Assembly and the local political elite. Thus, this study relies on the analysis of various political journals of the period, which were reached the main ideas, projects and policy languages of each party. From the information obtained was developing the profile of the local intellectual elite: the writers. We also observed in this work the analysis of discourses and conflicts that emerge in the Provincial Assembly from 1860 to 1880, addressing the political vocabulary of deputies, and exposure of their proposals facing the political unrest in the Court. Finally, in order to get as much information as possible, an analysis was made of the profile of provincial deputies, focusing on aspects such as education level, academic training, employment and place of birth. The study demonstrated that the province of the Esp?rito Santo has a different demeanor from other provinces when compared to the date of creation of the two major parties in the rest of the Empire. In addition, the province shows after 1860, new political practices and a political vocabulary permeated by new ideas that coming to the province from the new composition of the political and intellectual elite.<br>Este trabalho tem como objeto principal a din?mica pol?tica da prov?ncia do Esp?rito Santo a partir das transforma??es que emergem ap?s 1860, per?odo em que ocorre uma transforma??o dos grupos pol?ticos pessoais para os verdadeiros partidos pol?ticos de cunho ideol?gico. Due to that the search for new petroleum production methods and the use of process controlling techniques integrated to its artificial lift systems for optimizing that process plays a main role, and the development of well pump controllers is the main study object. The work proposes the implementation of a control system for oil wells equipped with ESP (Electrical Submersible Pumping), having as main methodology the use of the Arduino® Platform. The desired result is the development of a low cost oil pump controller system, with software technology which brings easy configuration and remote operation, and validation of its use in a real oil well. The main goals are the cost reduction through the use of inexpensive hardware, and the the increase of developing speed by migrating to a higher level programming language, both compared to current well pumping controller solutions, based on use of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller). Other than that, the proposal represents a big step for the dissemination of open hardware philosophy for the petroleum production process control, opening doors for incoming implementation of new controllers for other artificial lift methods<br>A redução de consumo energético e do custo operacional na indústria de petróleo vem se tornando uma preocupação cada vez maior ao longo dos últimos anos.

Por fim, é analisada a situação onde a alimentação do BCS é desequilibrada devido à diferença de valores entre os parâmetros do cabo submarino.<br>This work shows studies, modelling and analyses of an electrical submersible pump system (ESP), considering the characteristics of key elements in this system. The contributions are in its start-up, as also in the development of solutions for mitigation of some observed problems, e.g., those related to power quality at the equipment terminals. The model for each electrical equipment inside the ESP is presented in this work and highlighted some of the pertinent operational aspects that is commonly considered on practical operation. A project is settled for sizing the passive filters to attenuate the harmonic components of the voltages and currents supplied by the grid, in addition to helping voltage regulation at ESP connection point. In the study cases, it was considered a medium voltage power system with a 3835HP three phase squirrel cage induction motor which is connected with a centrifugal pump that results in a high inertia coefficient. Rotational friction model is considered in the studies to characterize the effects that occur at the initial seconds of the start-up of the system and also to evaluate the performance of the implemented control strategy. In the same way that occurs in real systems that are supplied by downhole electric cables, it was considered an open-loop V/f control with a methodology to estimate and compensate the voltage drop that exists between the terminals of the converter and the motor input. This work also establishes a short comparison between a 2-level voltage source converter (VSC) and a 3-level neutral-point clamped (NPC) VSC. Finally, the system is analyzed through the occurrence of an unbalance of downhole electric cable parameters.

Abstract:
Abstract: The intention is to present the ideas that led to Le Corbusier to build its latest and unique urban project "Chandigarh", realize his dream of building on a city made up of those elements foreshadowed from his notebooks, photographs and texts of his trips to East 1911 South America 1929. Le Corbusier in Chandigarh discovers his imagined city, that set based on the construct of reason; mountains, landscapes, trees, skies, lakes and rivers, etc. and for this he designed a three-dimensional map that contained the fundamental reason for all his years of work: "The monument open hand" is a place where overlaps that built geography (the idealized with found), various drawings have been giving at the time that ability to express the vocation of time built. Besides hand the be-is no longer a symbol or a "sign" is a topographic map containing the essential purposes. Chandigarh is built on the "imagined city" - remains his numerous drawings of mountains, rivers and lakes mapped from boats, trains, and planes - Le Corbusier was always expected to find a place to coincide and fit with all those naturales- conditions essential- there was joy and Punjab (India); that's when all set items are really overshadow first. Himalaya Mountains and Lake Suknha than geographic features - which form the boundaries of the project are essentially necessary to understand it. The open hand monument is configured as an ideographic resource in the work of Le Corbusier.Palabras clave: constructo, dibujos, viajes, publicaciones, mano abierta. Abstract:
Maths inside is a photo competition open to everyone living in Scotland, hosted by the University of Glasgow. The maths inside project seeks to nourish a love for mathematics by embarking on a journey of discovery through a creative lens. This suite of resources have been created to inspire entrants, and support families, teachers and those out-of-school to make deeper connections with their surroundings. The maths inside is waiting to be discovered! Also contained in the suite is an example to inspire and support you to design your own interdisciplinary learning (IDL) activity matched to Education Scotland experiences and outcomes (Es+Os), to lead pupils towards the creation of their own entry. These resources are not prescriptive, and are designed with a strong creativity ethos for them to be adapted and delivered in a manner that meets the specific needs of those participating. The competition and the activities can be tailored to meet all and each learners' needs. We recommend that those engaging with maths inside for the first time complete their own mapping exercise linking the designed activity to the Es+Os. To create a collaborative resource bank open to everyone, we invite you to treat these resources as a working document for entrants, parents, carers, teachers and schools to make their own. Please share your tips, ideas and activities at info@mathsinside.com and through our social media channels. Past winning entries of the competition are also available for inspiration and for using as a teaching resource. Already inspired? Enter the competition!
