Abstract:
A long term generation expansion model for the electricity sector of Sri Lanka was developed in this thesis. The model provides the least cost development pathways to cater the future electricity demand within the user defined constraints that need to be adhered. Starting from the present electricity system of the south Asian island nation, the model spans for the period from 2018 to 2050. Open Source Energy Modelling System (OSeMOSYS) was used to create the model. It utilises linear optimization and minimize the net present value of the modelled system in the entire period. Abstract:
This thesis focuses on the course through which romantic relationships gain meaning in the lives of students at the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. Drawing from research conducted with some students from the university in 2007/08, the thesis illustrates the process of investing in relationships, arguing that romantic relationships feature significantly in their imagination of 'a life that is worthy of living.' The story that is related in this thesis demonstrates that, in the lives of the research participants, romantic relationships provide a cocoon for self-development. Arising out of a ne

It is often claimed that education confers a range of benefits to individuals. From realising their thinking capacities to overcoming class boundaries, the outcomes of education are considered especially beneficial for women. Feminist theorists make a direct and strong link between education and female autonomy. Those who critique this line of thinking point to the numerous societal and structural factors which come into play in preventing education from delivering its promises of a world with greater productivity, equality and freedom. However even these critics concur that higher education d

In order to provide effective communication along each of these channels, attention is turning to the extension trainers deployed in the field. For

This concept first arose on the policy agenda of the World Health Organisation in the 1970s and then re-emerged in 2002 (with alternative and complementary medicines). The history of this policy at the global level and its transfer to national levels over this period is analysed, via the content, scope and outcomes of policy and programme documents.
