Chromate based treatment had been mainly used prior to the enforcement of the Water Pollution Control Law in 1970. After that, corrosion inhibitors were changed from chromate to phosphate or phosphates-polymer treatments. At first, polymers were only used for scale control. However, polymers are now used extensively to improve the effect of corrosion inhibitors and to disperse many kinds of suspended solids. The performance of non-phosphorous coo

Abstract A water flood program is required for Kuwait’s Northern and Western fields to maintain reservoir pressures. The program requires large amounts of Seawater Effluent, GC-17 Effluent and Zubair Aquifer injection water treated with oil field chemicals. Injection water that does not meet water quality specifications is disposed of in disposal pits and left to evaporate into the atmosphere. However, recent environmental regulations set by the country’s Environmental Public Authority (EPA) limit the disposal of the off-specification waters into open pits. These regulations require that opera

Abstract A comprehensive monitoring and control package has been deployed at several industrial and HVAC open recirculating cooling water systems over the past two years. Use of this package has resulted in improved heat transfer and extended equipment life through 24/7 control of the three main challenges encountered in cooling water systems: scale and particulate deposition, microbiological growth, and corrosion. Automation of this “cooling water triangle” utilizes new fluorescent-based sensing technologies that detect actual system performance and turn the data into knowledge via proprietar

Abstract:
The US Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC) tasked the US Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) with (1) developing a prototype venturi pump blower attachment for removing standing water from open excavations and (2) comparing its performance to that of traditional pumps. This technical note summarizes testing conducted as a part of the development of the prototype and provides analysis and conclusions based on the results.

The Open Geospatial Consortium has defined "OGC WaterML 2: Part 3 - Surface Hydrology Features (HY_Features) - Conceptual Model", but not any particular implementation of it. The Common Hydrology Features (CHyF) model extends HY_Features and makes some minor changes to it required for implementation and the delivery of high performance services. HY_Features discusses catchment coverage and topological relations. In CHyF these are key ideas, as is the notion that hydrologically defined network components form elements of a mathematical graph, allowing for very fast network traversal. HY_Feature

Abstract:
Seismic ground failure potential from liquefaction is generally undertaken in three steps. First, a susceptibility evaluation determines if the soil in a particular layer is in a condition where liquefaction triggering could potentially occur. This is followed by a triggering evaluation to estimate the likelihood of triggering given anticipated seismic demands, environmental conditions pertaining to the soil layer (e.g., its depth relative to the ground water table), and the soil state. For soils where triggering can be anticipated, the final step involves assessments of the potential for grou
