Recent decades have seen the art curator emerge from a behind-the-scenes, anonymous position to that of a public functionary, challenging the role of the artist as the dominant force in the creation of art. Projektets ide är främst att göra byggnaden till en spektakulär och funktionell upplevelse förbesökarna. Varför är detta förslag den bästaför den här platsen? För att den är intressant och blir som ett märke och symbol för Stockholm som Sydneyoperan är för Australien. Operabyggnaden placeras längst ut på piren och tar hela dess udde i anspråk. Operan riktar sig mot staden. Byggnadens storlek och koncept kräver viss rymd och ljus runt sig varför valet av plats blev naturligt. Den stora operavolymen skärs itu i flera delar och de olika volymerna binds sedan samman av en stålkonstruktion som på vissa ställen fungerar som ett orangeri medan den på andra ställen är en öppen pergolastruktur. Jag har valt att placera operan i Frihamnen för jag tror att det är bra för stadens utveckling att flytta ut viktiga byggnader så att innerstaden får växa ochde nya bostadsområderna får en egen, attraktiv karaktär. A variety of demands have to be considered in the design of a new opera house in Galärvarvet. All possible viewpoints are important to be aware of, as is the need for the new building to be a contrast to the already existing opera house in Stockholm.
