<p>Rapporten undersöker om det är möjligt att använda Clonezilla för distribuerad installation av Windows Vista som alternativ till Symantec Ghost. Ett ytterligare krav är att installationen ska vara automatiserad och inte kräva något extra arbete efter installationens slut. Dessutom ska datorerna vara redo att användas i en Windows-domän efter en färdig installation.</p><p>Programmet Clonezilla är av typen open source och är fritt att använda medan Symantec Ghost är en kommersiell produkt som kräver flertalet licenser beroende på antalet datorer. Denna rapport behandlar en undersökning av olika lastbalanseringsalgoritmer i Linux Virtual Server. Undersökningen har gjorts i ett webbkluster (Apache var webbservern som användes) med tre heterogena noder, där operativsystemet var den detalj som skiljde dem åt. Operativsystemen som ingick i undersökningen var Windows Server 2008 R2, CentOS 6.2 och FreeBSD 9.0. De faktorer som undersöktes mellan de olika algoritmerna var klustrets genomsnittliga svarstid vid olika belastning och hur många anslutningar som kunde hanteras av klustret, detta gjordes med verktyget httperf. The increasing use of multiprocessor computers require operating system adaptations to take advantage of the computing power. However, porting an operating system kernel to run on a multiprocessor can be very difficult because of a large code base, concurrency issues when dealing with multiple threads of execution, and limited tool support for development.
