Abstract:

The paper deals with an experiment that was established at Opočno Experimental Station of the Forest and Game Management Research Institute (CR) in an oak small pole stage in 1952 to test whether Schaedelin’âs (1942) tending method worked out for beech stands is suitable for oak stands. Development and growth of the oak stand without tending are analysed, and the influence of repeated positive selection and of definitive selection of target trees on the oak stand is described. The result of the 50-year experiment is that Schaedelin’s tending method is suitable also for oak stands. However, it is rational only if the choice of candidates from the small pole stage is focused on vital straight trees.

Abstract:

Mechanized windrowing in the top region of the Orlické hory Mts. has disturbed hundreds of hectares of immission clearcuts during eighties. The soil surface on the Velká Deštná Mountain was disturbed in 1987. One year later the Forest Research Station at Opočno established on this place the long-term research plot. Degree and extent of soil surface disturbance were recorded. Besides other experiments, the experimental Norway spruce plantation was established on three strips: control strip, strip treated by fertilizers or limestone (1991), and strip ameliorated byAlnus viridisplantation (1992). The effect of site degradation by mechanized windrowing has been indicated by young spruce growth for a long time period. The assessment of 17 years old spruce growth on the control strip shows significantly greater height increment on negligibly disturbed sites comparing to that on remarkably and very remarkably disturbed sites. Amelioration of spruce trees brings perspective outcomes on the strip biologically amended byAlnus viridis. High atmospheric depositions especially of nitrogen compounds, fungal disease by Ascocalyx abietina, climatic fluctuations, and high values of groundlevel ozone have brought new problems into spruce plantation performance since 1999. Nevertheless, it has been more substantially reduced by green alder.

Abstract:

In 1986 (1987) research plots were established in a forest stands on the south-western slope of &Scaron;erlich Mt., Orlické hory Mts. (Kristina Colloredo-Mansfeld – Forest Administration Opočno), at the altitude of 950 to 970 m, to study deposition, chemistry of precipitation and soil water and development of soil chemistry. The plots were established on a clear-cut area, in a young stand and a mature stand of spruce, in a mature beech stand, and in an advanced growth of spruce and European mountain ash. The content of solutes in creek water was studied at the same time. Since 1993 the concentration of substances in precipitation water intercepted in the summit part of &Scaron;erlich Mt. has been measured. Research on water chemistry in the stands terminated in 1997. Soil analyses were done in 1986 (1987), 1993 and 1999. The load of acid air pollutants in these forest ecosystems was high in the eighties. After 1991 the deposition of H+, S/SO42–, N/NO3– + NH4+, Mn, Zn, Al decreased. Similarly, an increase in pH was observed in soil water, and the concentrations of SO42–, and N, Al compounds decreased. But in 1993 the concentrations of SO42– and Al increased again under the spruce stand for several months. The concentrations of NO3–, Mn, Zn and Al in the stream water also gradually decreased in the nineties. On the contrary, the average values of S-ions increased compared to those of 1987 to 1991. Strongly acid soil reaction developed in deeper layers until 1993. In the second half of the nineties the pH/H2O value somewhat increased again, however the reserve of K, Mg, Ca available cations in the mineral soil constantly decreased. The saturation of sorption complex by basic cations in the lower layer of rhizosphere did not reach even 10% in 1999. The forest ecosystems of &Scaron;erlich Mt. were also loaded by a high fall-out of Pb, and increased fall-out of Cu. The lack of balance of N-compound transformations and consumption in the soil and increased leaching of N in the form of nitrates contribute to soil acidification on the investigated plots.

Abstract:

Objetivando contribuir com o estudo da história e cultura afro-brasileiras e, consequentemente, opondo-se à colonialidade do poder e do saber, neste artigo visamos comparar os projetos de abolição de Joaquim Nabuco e de Luís Gama, realizando um levantamento parcial de suas respectivas características e pressupostos. Assim, verificamos diferenças e semelhanças entre as suas propostas e seus posicionamentos políticos e ideológicos para concretizá-las. Sustenta-se o argumento de que o projeto de abolição assumido por Nabuco, entendido aqui como um representante das elites dirigentes daquele contexto histórico, é diametralmente oposto ao projeto de Luís Gama, ex-escravizado que logrou ser poeta e advogado antiescravista. Ambos agem como intelectuais orgânicos de suas classes de origem. O primeiro defendia que a abolição fosse conduzida pelos homens livres, mas deliberada no Parlamento; portanto, sem a participação dos/as escravizados/as e com o objetivo último de embranquecer o Brasil. O segundo defendia que a conquista da liberdade tivesse participação efetiva dos/as escravizados/as, inclusive com uso da violência, como, por exemplo, o assassinato dos senhores pelos/as escravizados/as.

Abstract:

Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus is a condition in which women without previously diagnosed diabetes exhibit high blood glucose levels during pregnancy. Gestational diabetes which prevalence is on the increase in Nigeria may have negative consequences on the health of the foetus or mother. This study was designed to determine the prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus and its complications among pregnant women attending antenatal services in Diette Koki memorial hospital Opolo Bayelsa State from 2014-2016.Methods: This was a retrospective study carried out at the Diette Koki Memorial Hospital Opolo in Bayelsa State. The study population comprised pregnant women that attended antenatal care services within the period of January 2014-December 2016. A designed proforma was used to collect the data from the hospital record department.Results: The results of the study showed that the prevalence of gestational diabetes in the year 2014 was 0.023% or 2.33 per 10,000 pregnancies while the prevalence for 2015 was 0.026% or 2.59% per 10000 pregnancies. Furthermore, other complications recorded were hypertension, pre-eclampsia and eclampsia. Similarly, there was a significant correlation between prevalence of gestational diabetes and other complications (r=0.898, p=0.022).Conclusions: In conclusion, prevalence of gestational diabetes was recorded among pregnant women of Diette Koki memorial hospital Opobo Bayelsa State. Therefore, prompt screening and preventive measures should be enforced by health care professionals to prevent maternal and foetal morbidity and mortality.

Partindo da minha formação enquanto atriz junto ao Odin Teatret, e de todos os estudos que as(os) integrantes desse grupo têm realizado acerca do vocabulário da atriz e do ator, busquei conectar teoria e prática, retomando o treinamento que é desenvolvido nessa tradição. Logo no início da pesquisa, o princípio da oposição, por sua recorrente presença nos exercícios e também nos escritos, mostrou-se relevante dentro do processo formativo desse grupo, especialmente no que diz respeito ao desenvolvimento da presença e criação cênicas. Debrucei-me sobre o conceito deste princípio e suas formas de manifestação, levando-me a subdividi-lo em outros quatro: a contraposição, a resistência, a pré-ação e a introversão e extroversão, e ainda, a relacioná-lo com outros estudos, tais como: a mímica moderna de Decroux, a biomecânica de Meyerhold e a expressividade corpórea de Delsarte. Também levei a oposição para dentro da minha cultura, através da Capoeira Angola e do samba brasileiro. Enquanto que, para seu trato em contexto de formação da atriz e do ator, trouxe sua explanação através dos exercícios conduzidos pelas atrizes Julia Varley, Iben Nagel Rasmussen, Roberta Carreri e pelo ator Jan Ferslev, do Odin Teatret, sem deixar, contudo, de abordar o contexto desse trabalho, permeado pela vivência com o grupo em sua sede, na Dinamarca. Tendo esta pesquisa, prioritariamente, um caráter prático e artístico, houve a sua materialização através da criação da demonstração de trabalho O oposto, possibilitando reviver a experiência prática com um viés pedagógico. Além de exercícios e das influências históricas, através das personagens e cenas dos espetáculos Estrelas e O Pesadelo da Borboleta, bem como da própria demonstração de trabalho O oposto, dirigidos por Varley, apresentei a incorporação da oposição na criação cênica, que, através dos exemplos dados, mostrou ser uma ferramenta útil para a atriz e ator, permeando exercícios e criação de espetáculos.
Starting from my training as an actress with Odin Teatret, and all the studies that the members of this group have done on the actress and the actor’s vocabulary, I sought to connect theory and practice, returning to the training that is developed in this tradition. A reprodução dos peixes é regulada pelo eixo hipotálamo-hipófise-gônadas. As interações entre machos e fêmeas podem afetar esse eixo, desencadeando respostas fisiológicas, como a secreção de hormônios reprodutivos e o desenvolvimento das gônadas, e comportamentais, como corte, perseguição, desova e espermiação nos membros participantes. Dessa forma, a comunicação visual e química com um peixe do sexo oposto pode modular a reprodução. O objetivo deste trabalho foi testar o efeito da comunicação visual e química com o sexo oposto na reprodução da tilápia-do-Nilo. Para isso, quatorze casais de tilápia-do-Nilo foram mantidos em cada uma das seguintes condições, que variaram apenas quanto ao tipo de comunicação permitida entre o casal: 1) comunicação visual; 2) comunicação química; 3) comunicação química e visual; 4) isolados (sem qualquer contato entre o casal). O comportamento reprodutivo e o desenvolvimento das gônadas dos machos e fêmeas foram analisados e comparados entre as condições. A comunicação visual com o peixe do sexo oposto aumentou a freqüência de ondulação (corte) em machos e fêmeas, induziu desova em fêmeas e aumento do IGS em machos. A comunicação química não teve efeito sobre os parâmetros analisados. Conclui-se que a comunicação visual com o sexo oposto é o principal fator de estimulação social na reprodução na tilápia-do- Nilo
Hypothalamic-Hypophysis-Gonad is the main neural-hormonal axis regulating fish reproduction. Such axis may be affected by male-female interactions stimulating physiological responses (as hormonal releasing and gonad development) and behavioral responses (as courtship, chasing and spawning) among the interacting animals. Thus, visual and chemical communication between opposite sex may modulate fish reproduction. This study checked the effect of visual and chemical male-female interaction in the Nile tilapia. Thus, fourteen couples were studied in four different conditions of communication: 1) only visual contact; 2) only chemical contact; 3) chemical and visual contact; 4) no sensorial contact (isolated). The reproductive behavior and gonad development were analyzed and compared among the conditions. The visual communication with the opposite sex raised the frequency of undulation (a courtship movement) in males and females, induced spawning in females and risen GSI in males. The chemical communication did not affect such parameters. It was concluded that the male-female visual communication is the main social stimulation factor on Nile tilapia reproduction

Resumo: A reprodução dos peixes é regulada pelo eixo hipotálamo-hipófise-gônadas. As interações entre machos e fêmeas podem afetar esse eixo, desencadeando respostas fisiológicas, como a secreção de hormônios reprodutivos e o desenvolvimento das gônadas, e comportamentais, como corte, perseguição, desova e espermiação nos membros participantes. Dessa forma, a comunicação visual e química com um peixe do sexo oposto pode modular a reprodução. O objetivo deste trabalho foi testar o efeito da comunicação visual e química com o sexo oposto na reprodução da tilápia-do-Nilo. Para isso, quatorze casais de tilápia-do-Nilo foram mantidos em cada uma das seguintes condições, que variaram apenas quanto ao tipo de comunicação permitida entre o casal: 1) comunicação visual; 2) comunicação química; 3) comunicação química e visual; 4) isolados (sem qualquer contato entre o casal). O comportamento reprodutivo e o desenvolvimento das gônadas dos machos e fêmeas foram analisados e comparados entre as condições. Abstract:

Background The improvement of energy efficiency in buildings is widely promoted as a measure to mitigate climate change through the reduction of CO2 emissions. Thermal regulations worldwide promote it, for both new and existing buildings. Among the existing stock, traditional and historic buildings pose the additional challenge of heritage conservation. Their energy efficiency upgrade raises the risk of provoking negative impacts on their significance. Aims and Methodology This research used an approach based on impact assessment methodologies, defining an inital baseline scenario for both heritage and energy, from which the appropriate improvement solutions were identified and assessed. The measures were dynamically simulated and the results for energy, CO2, cost and comfort compared with the initial scenario, and then being further assessed for their heritage impact to eventually determine the most feasible solutions. To test this method, ten case studies, representative of the identified typological variants, were selected among Oporto’s traditional buildings located in the World Heritage Site. Findings and Conclusions The fieldwork data revealed that the energy consumption of these dwellings was below the European average. Additionally, the households expressed that their home comfort sensation was overall positive. The simulations showed that the introduction of insulation and solar thermal panels were ineffective on these cases in terms of energy, cost and comfort. At the same time, these measures pose a great risk to the buildings’ heritage value. The most efficient solutions were obtained from behavioural changes and DHW retrofit. The study reinforced the idea that traditional buildings performed better than expected and can be retrofitted and updated at a low-cost and with passive solutions. The use of insulation and solar panels should be disregarded.

Esta dissertação apresenta uma discussão sobre a atuação do controle de tensão e potência reativa em sistemas elétricos. Em particular, é investigado um fenômeno que já foi observado em casos reais do sistema brasileiro em equipamentos para controle de tensão, no qual um aumento na injeção de potência reativa resulta numa redução de tensão, ou seja, o controle de tensão atua de maneira oposta à usual. Este comportamento caracteriza uma situação de instabilidade de tensão, comprometendo a segurança de tensão, tal que ações sucessivas do mesmo possam levar o sistema ao colapso. Tendo como foco os geradores e compensadores síncronos, são apresentados dois índices visando identificar quando estes equipamentos encontram-se nesta situação, para que o fenômeno seja detectado e medidas corretivas possam ser tomadas. O primeiro índice, já difundido na literatura, considera uma redução nas equações linearizadas do fluxo de potência. Já o segundo, monitora o comportamento da curva QV, representando uma estimativa dos autovalores dominantes da matriz jacobiana, que tendem para zero no ponto de bifurcação, explorando o fato de que o vetor tangente converge para o autovetor à direita. Em seguida, sabendo que o gerador/compensador encontra-se nesta situação com controle de tensão oposto ao usual, são propostas ações de controle que desloquem o ponto de operação para uma condição em que o controle volte a atuar de forma usual, estável do ponto de vista de tensão e, se possível, com aumento da margem de carga e redução das perdas. Para tanto, propõe-se a utilização da curva QV em conjunto com os índices de detecção, sobretudo para determinar a nova referência de tensão das barras problemáticas. No caso dos geradores, o redespacho de potência ativa também é explorado, a partir de uma formulação sistêmica que utiliza o método da continuação onde o parâmetro considerado é a potência ativa gerada. Por último, aborda-se o problema utilizando técnicas de otimização. Utilizando o software MATLAB, foi desenvolvida uma rotina computacional que engloba a detecção e a correção do fenômeno relacionado ao efeito oposto entre o controle de tensão e potência reativa. Para validar as técnicas e comparar os resultados, são realizadas várias simulações utilizando dois sistemas: um sistema teste, composto por nove barras, e outro, equivalente de parte do sistema elétrico brasileiro.

The aim of the present study is to evaluate the result of the knee pain treatment using The Opposite Side Technique from the Traditional Chinese Medicine. Thirty-six patients with unilateral gonalgia were studied. 44.44% (16) with osteoarthrosis, 30.55% (11) with patella femural osteoarthrosis, 11.11% (4) with severe osteoarthrosis, 11.11% (4) with patella chrondomalacy and 2.77% (1) with synovial plica. The patients were divided in two groups: Group I (Acupuncture) were eighteen, who submitted to 20 acupuncture sessions, where it was used points of counter to lateral acupuncture to the affected knee and acupuncture points to the distance according to the Traditional Chinese Medicine and to the acupuncture neurophisiologic action standard to select these points for the treatment, and Group II (Phisiotherapy) also eighteen, who submitted to 20 physiotherapeutic sessions and antiinflamatory non steroid (AINS) medicines. According to the results from the statistical analysis, non-parametric, of the subjective data (the intensity of the described pain, difficulty in walking, in crouching, in going upstairs and downstairs, in running, in jumping, in claudicant motion, in making use of some walking support) as the objective parameters ( the restriction of the flexional moviment and also the one of the knee extension moviment, and the arc moviment) showed good results in all the studied parameters. The most refractory parameters were the objective ones above mentioned. The Jue Yin (Liver) energetic channel of the foot showed to be the most affected (22.22%), followed by the associations of the Jue Yin (Liver) and the Tae Yang (Bladder) energetic channel of the foot (22.22%), the Jue Yin (Liver) and the Yang Ming (Stomach) of the foot (16.66%), and the Jue Yin (Liver) and the Shao Yang (Gall Bladder) of the foot (11.11%), and another associations (16.66%). The false-Yang (52.77%) characteristics of disorders were the predominant in relation to the energetic ones followed by the Yin (33.33%) and the Yang (13.88%) disorders of the patients.
O presente estudo tem a finalidade de avaliar o efeito do tratamento das algias do joelho utilizando a técnica "ao oposto" da medicina tradicional chinesa. Foram estudados 36 pacientes, portadores de gonalgia unilateral, dos quais 44,44% (16) eram portadores de osteoartrose, 30,55% (11) de osteoartrose patelo-femural, 11,11% (4) de osteoartrose grave, 11,11% (4) de condromalácea de patela e 2,77% (1) de plica sinovial. Os pacientes foram divididos em dois grupos. Todos os pacientes do grupo I (acupuntura), 18, foram submetidos a 20 sessões de acupuntura, utilizando-se pontos de acupuntura contra-lateral ao joelho afetado e, pontos de acupuntura à distância, obedecendo-se aos critérios da medicina tradicional chinesa e aos critérios neurofisiológicos de ação da acupuntura, na eleição destes pontos para o tratamento, e os pacientes do grupo II (fisioterapia), 18, foram submetidos a 20 sessões de fisioterapia e administração de antiinflamatórios não esteróides (aine). A análise estatística não paramétrica dos resultados obtidos nos dados subjetivos (intensidade da dor relatada, dificuldade de andar, de agachar, de subir e descer escadas, de correr, de pular, de marcha claudicante, de uso de apoio para andar), como os parâmetros objetivos (limitação do movimento do joelho) evidenciou bons resultados em todos os parâmetros estudados. Os parâmetros mais refratários ao tratamento, foram os parâmetros objetivos, citados acima. O canal de energia jue yin (fígado) do pé mostrou ser o mais acometido (22,22%), seguido das associações dos canais de energia jue yin (fígado) e tae yang (bexiga) do pé (22,22%), jue yin (fígado e yang ming (estômago) do pé (16,66%), jue yin (fígado) e shao yang (vesícula biliar) do pé (11,11%), jue yin (fígado), yang ming (estômago) e shao yang (vesícula biliar) do pé (11,11%) e outras associações (16,66%). Em relação às características energéticas, houve a predominância de afecções de característica falso-yang (52,77%), seguida das afecções yin (33,33%) e das afecções yang (13,88%) dos pacientes.

A vida é o bem mais precioso de um indivíduo. Atualmente, diversos fatores contribuem para colocá-la em risco, dentre eles os traumas causados por acidentes de trânsito. Quando isto ocorre, uma situação de emergência está configurada e somente a pronta intervenção, feita por pessoas altamente treinadas, poderá obter sucesso na reversão do quadro que se apresenta. O presente trabalho analisa o serviço de atendimento móvel de urgência (SAMU) realizado em vias públicas, com o objetivo de modelar um sistema de apoio à decisão espacial (SADE), que utilize tecnologias da informação como rastreamento de veículos dentre outras, para atuar na gestão operacional e estratégica do referido serviço. Para alcançar esse objetivo, promoveu-se uma ampla pesquisa bibliográfica, além de entrevistas e análise de casos implantados. A partir da base teórica e usando ferramentas de modelagem de sistemas, foi proposto um SADE que contempla as principais informações e funções necessárias à operação do SAMU, além de prover mecanismos que permitem a análise de sua performance, auditoria dos procedimentos e a rastreabilidade das informações produzidas. Do modelo proposto, implementou-se um protótipo computacional e, utilizando dados referentes a uma área geográfica limitada, foram realizados testes que demonstraram a viabilidade do sistema. Essa forma de abordagem, que difere substancialmente dos enfoques tradicionais, centrados ora no ato médico, ora nos aspectos estruturais, provou que a aplicação de conceitos oriundos da área de sistemas de informações e da logística tem muito a oferecer ao SAMU.

Vários trabalhos têm caracterizado as classes de grafos para os quais uma dada convexidade é geométrica, como a convexidade monofônica em grafos cordais, a convexidade geodésica em grafos ptolemaicos [Farber and Jamison 1986] e a convexidade m3 em grafos bipolarizados fracos [Dragan et al. 1999]. Nesse artigo, obtemos caracterizações para as convexidades P3, P3 , P+4 e triangle-path. Também obtemos resultados no sentido oposto: dada uma classe de grafos, existe alguma convexidade que só é geométrica nessa classe?

This Annual Report of the Portuguese Polar Program, PROPOLAR reports the main activities conducted between August 2018 and December 2019 The PROPOLAR is led by the CEG/IGOT University of Lisbon, under a Coordinating Committee that includes members of other 4 Portuguese research institutions CCMAR University of the Algarve, MARE University of Coimbra, CQE University of Lisbon, and CIIMAR University of Oporto The Program is funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia MCTES FCT) as a development of its former Polar Office The activities herein disclosed reflect a very busy and inspiring year The PROPOLAR supported fifteen projects that were successfully carried out in the Arctic and Antarctica Logistics continued to be based on international cooperation and on a Portuguese funded Antarctic flight open to partner programs Logistical support in Antarctica was mainly provided by Spain, Chile and the Republic of Korea, also with strong cooperation in research and facilities with Argentina, Brazil, Bulgaria, China, Peru, Turkey, United States of America and Uruguay Participation in international meetings and workshops, as well as the organisation of a symposium and an international meeting, and the support provided to the Portuguese Conference on Polar Science, fulfilled and enriched this very active period, also helping to reinforce the credibility and relevance of the program in the international polar arena B ringing together all these efforts and resources will surely attract and mobilise more young researchers into a Polar scientific career, thus ensuring the future of the Portuguese Polar science, and that the program will continue to blossom We are confident that the successes that PROPOLAR has had in 2019 will serve as an impetus for our very dynamic and committed community of polar researchers to move forward in in vesting in the future of the Portuguese P olar science and preparing to seize new opportunities
