Twenty different materials have been successfully deposited as Langmuir- Blodgett monolayer films. All exhibit second harmonic generation (SHG) when irradiated with laser light at 1064 nm. E-1-docosyl-4-{2-(4-dimethylami nophenyl)ethenyl}quinolinium bromide (C22H45QHBr) and E-1-docosyl-4-{2-(4-dimethy laminonaphthyl)ethenyl}quinolinium bromide (C22H45QNBr) have been deposited separately as multilayer films. The synthesis and characterisation of a variety of zeolites and aluminosilicates has been achieved using hydrothermal methods and solid state calcinations. The system using elemental aluminium, silica and sodium hydroxide solution as starting materials was explored using hydrothermal methods (200°C), and reactions conditions were optimised for the formation of analcime, sodalite, zeolite A and faujasite. Three types of nanostructured materials have been investigated: C60 on InP (100), Indium clusters on InP (100) and luminescent alkylated-Si quantum dots. The growth model and electronic structureOf C60molecules adsorbed on InP (100) were studied by XPS and UPS as a function of coverage and annealing temperature. The C Is, P 2p, In 4d core levels and the valence band spectra point to the presence of a localized covalent bond between C60 molecules and the substrate.
