This dissertation explores the effects of two-photon absorption and color center induced absorption on all-optical switching devices. The amount of allowable two-photon absorption was quantified by the parameter T = 2βλ/n₂, where λ is the operating wavelength, β is the two-photon absorption coefficient, and n₂ is the nonlinear refractive index coefficient, the latter two being measured at λ. If the value of T exceeds unity, the operation of all-optical switching devices is in general degraded beyond usable regimes. Abstract:
Joint center location is the driving parameter for determining the kinematics, and later kinetics, associated with human motion capture. Therefore the accuracy with which said location is determined is of great import to any and all subsequent calculation and analysis. The most significant barrier to accurate determination of this parameter is soft tissue artifact, which contaminates the measurements of on-body measurement devices by allowing them to move relative to the underlying rigid bone. This leads to inaccuracy in both bone pose estimation and joint center location. The complexity of so

A datacenter hosts hundreds of thousands of servers and a huge amount of bandwidth is required to accommodate communication between thousands of servers. Several packet switched based datacenter architectures are proposed to cater the high bandwidth requirement using multilayer network topologies, however at the cost of increased network complexity and high power consumption. In recent years, the focus has shifted from packet switching to optical circuit switching to build the data center networks as it can support on demand connectivity and high bit rates with low power consumption. Abstract:
The shopping centre has evolved into an integral part of modern day society. New generations especially are unable to imagine a world without shopping centres. In 2008 a world wide economic down turn emphasized the competition to attract a buying market to shopping centres, some centres thrived and some centres struggled. The need to understand what creates these different responses to highly competitive scenarios is discussed in this study, with particular attention given to the tenant mix that exists in different shopping centres. Criteria that determine an optimum tenant mix are examined an
