Abstract:
Once a digital image is processed in some way and the reconstruction is compared to the original, the final arbiter of reconstruction quality is the human to whom the images are presented. The research presented here is concerned with the development of schemes for the quantisation of colour images and for the encoding of colour images for transmission, with the goal of minimising the perceived image distortion rather than minimising a traditional error signal statistic. In order to quantise colour images with minimum perceived distortion, a colour space is sought in which Euclidean distances

Abstract:
The primary objective of this thesis is to provide a low-complexity rate-distortion optimal coding mode selection method in digital video encoding. To achieve optimal compression efficiency in the rate-distortion framework with low computational complexity, we first propose a rate-distortion model and then apply it to the coding mode selection problem. The computational complexity of the proposed method is very low compared to overall encoder complexity because the proposed method uses simple image properties such as variance that can be obtained easily. Also, the proposed method gives signifi

In contrast to its wired counterparts which have more stable network settings, wireless networks are subject to network dynamics, such as variable network topology, channel availability and capacity, which are due to user mobility, signal collision, random channel fading and scattering, etc. Network dynamics complicate the protocol design for optimal data disseminations.
