Abstract:
This work presents an architecture for Offset Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (OQPSK) using an Offset generator. The Offset generator generates symbol patterns such that there is a maximum phase shift of ±90° only between the symbols, unlike the Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (QPSK) modulator which has a maximum of ±180° phase shift. Here the effort of designing an Offset generator, which can be embedded onto QPSK modulator to generate OQPSK with minimum combinational logic, has been discussed. Whenever the input symbols to the Offset generator varies in phase with a ±180° in constellation, it generates an intermediate symbol which differs only in ±90° with the previous one. Then it continues to give out the original symbol to be transmitted. This follows the exact OQPSK technology while it doesn't follow the conventional generation method of OQPSK modulation which provides an offset between the even and odd bit patterns of the symbols to be transmitted. The architecture is modelled using Verilog HDL and the functionality is validated from the simulation result.

Abstract:
In this paper, we present a study of bit error rate (BER) for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing/offset quadrature phase shift keying (OFDM/OQPSK) and OFDM/offset quadrature amplitude modulation (OQAM) systems with an isotropic orthogonal transfer algorithm (IOTA) filter. The novel noise suppression method based on an IOTA filter is proposed to reduce the error of channel estimation caused by additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN). The OFDM/OQPSK and OFDM/OQAM systems do not insert the guard interval (GI) and pilots in the signal frames, thus they possess transmission efficiency. An analysis was carried out for convolutional coded OFDM/OQPSK and OFDM/OQAM systems in Rayleigh fading channels with generator polynomials and constraint lengths. Compared with conventional OFDM/QPSK and OFDM/QAM systems with the insertion of comb-type pilots, the proposed IOTA filter-based channel estimation method can provide significant energy per bit to time-varying noise power spectral density ratio gains over time and frequency-selective propagation Rayleigh fading channels in OFDM/OQPSK and OFDM/OQAM systems.

Abstract:
In this work physical layer simulation of IEEE 802.15.4 ZigBee protocol has been done. The proposed work is the implementation of ZigBee system according to the protocol description. In this work we have simulated ZigBee system first with conventional OQPSK modulation technique, then the simulations are performed for MSK modulation, which is through OQPSK modulation. Simulation results for BER showing the average 79.43 improvement in BER for Proposed MSK compared with OQPSK modulation scheme. For a target BER of 10 2 the SNR required is 4 dB for this work i.e. for MSK, as compared to 10 dB for conventional OQPSK. Hence, an improvement of 6 dB less SNR. For a target BER of 10 2 the SNR required is 4 dB for this work i.e. for MSK, as compared to 5.2 dB with 1 . Hence, an improvement of 1.2 dB less SNR. Abstract:
This paper aims to delve into the design and implementation aspects of an OQPSK (Offset Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) modulator within the context of modem technology, underscoring its pivotal role in contemporary information technology infrastructure. The research primarily focuses on elucidating the theoretical foundations of OQPSK modulation, which represents an enhancement of QPSK modulation techniques. Central to the design is the utilization of a multiplexer to select one carrier signal out of four, which is subsequently modulated by data bits. Furthermore, the modulator employs two square wave signals phased 90 degrees apart, which are transformed into differential sinusoidal signals to constitute the carrier signal. Operating frequencies encompass a 5 MHz streaming data bits frequency and a 10 MHz clock frequency. Simulation results validate the efficacy of the OQPSK modulator by demonstrating its capability to generate modulated signals at a robust data transfer rate of 20 Mbps. This underscores the modulator's effectiveness in transmitting digital data over analog communication channels. In conclusion, the designed OQPSK modulator exemplifies its proficiency in efficiently modulating and demodulating signals, thereby bolstering connectivity and communication across diverse societal sectors. This research contributes significantly to the advancement of modem technology, which is indispensable for the expansion and maintenance of modern communication networks, ensuring robust connectivity in the digital age.

This paper is successfully demonstrating simulating comparison and investigation of 48 channels of dense wavelength division multiplexing free space optical (DWDM−FSO) network with a 10 GB/s data rate on each channel separated by 100 GHz frequency spacing under a clear sky, haze and light rain climate conditions. Apart from this, comparison of a series of modulation formats such as non−return to zero (NRZ), return to zero (RZ), carrier suppressed return to zero (CSRZ), Soliton pulse, and offset quadrature phase shift keying (OQPSK) have been performed and optimized the performance of the designed system with best suited modulated system. The performance of the proposed work has been evaluated in terms of bit error rate (BER), quality factor (Q), signal−to−noise ratio (SNR), received signal power and eye diagrams. It has been observed that OQPSK modulated system has shown more robust performance as compared to other line encoding techniques. The minimum simulation work reports for OQPSK modulated system have been recorded with the acceptable performance BER ≤ 10−10, Q ≥ 6 dB at the 2000 meters FSO link range.

Abstract:
Based on the urgent needs for high transmission speed and high reliability of wireless MWD, the OQPSK modulation of the drilling fluid continuous wave signal is proposed in this article. The Principle of delay orthogonal modulation and coherent demodulation of OQPSK are studied, and the changes in the phase vector of the inputted bit sequence are analyzed; according to the principle of continuous wave generation, the phase adjustment mechanism of rotary value are analyzed and the relationship between the signal waveform, as well as the rotational speed when adjusting the phase, is studied; the information transmission rate, band efficiency and bit error rate of the OQPSK and QDPSK continuous wave communication systems are comparatively analyzed and simulated. The results show that OQPSK eliminates the phase transition of π, which belongs to constant envelope modulation, is suitable for the transmission under low SNR drilling fluid channel, meanwhile simplifies the phase adjustment and reduces generator design. QDPSK can simplify the computational complexity of phase adjustment, and reduces the design difficulty of the continuous-wave generator’s control circuit. The rotary valve forms of "slow down - speed up" and " speed up - slow down " are suitable for π / 2 and 3π / 2 phase jump respectively; the motor control modes which combine closed loop position and closed loop velocity can achieve phase stable signal and reduce the dynamic torque of the motor; in the same carrier frequency and SNR, the information rate and bandwidth efficiency of both OQPSK’s and QDPSK’s are twice as those of the two-phase shift keying system’s, and they can improve the wireless transmission performance of MWD system.

It is known that OQPSK has lower spectral sidelobes than QPSK. However, in the presence of frequency selective fading, a decision-feedback adaptive equalizer is able to equalize the QPSK signal but not the OQPSK signal. By using phase pre-distortion on the OQPSK waveform before nonlinear amplification, not only is the adaptive equalizer able to equalize this signal, its spectral sidelobes are also reduced. Simulations are presented to confirm these results.

Abstract:
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 26-29, 1998 / Town & Country Resort Hotel and Convention Center, San Diego, California
A new constant envelope modulation scheme for OQPSK, called FQPSK-O, is presented. This modulation technique is an extension of the Feher Quadrature Shift Keying (FQPSK) patented technologies, see Ref[l]. This scheme uses cubic spline interpolation to generate very smooth baseband waveforms in order to increase the spectral and power efficiency. Being a constant envelope modulation, FQPSK-O can operate with class C power amplifier without spectrum regrowth. We achieve a more compact spectrum with comparable bit error rate performance. For example, the spectrum of FQPSK-O is 25% narrower than that of GMSK with BT(b)=0.3 and FQPSK-1 with hardlimiter [2] at -40 dB attenuation point. For coherent demodulation under AWGN channel, FQPSK-O has almost the same BER performance as FQPSK-1 with hardlimiter. Both of them are better than GMSK with BT(b)=0.3 for BER < 10^-4. In Rayleigh fading channel, FQPSK-O outperforms GMSK with BT(b)=0.3 by 2 dB. FQPSK-O is an excellent scheme for wireless and satellite communications which require high spectral and power efficiency.

Abstract:
New payload concepts of low cost earth stations for future mobile satellite communications can only be realised by using dedicated on-board processing satellites. The satellite uplink and downlink are optimised by the use of FDMA/SCPC for uplink and TDM on the down link. This scheme allows mobile transmitters to transmit a narrow band, low power signal, resulting in smaller dishes and HPAs with lower output power. On the uplink, there are hundreds of FDM channels to be demodulated on-board. The most promising approach is the use of all-digital multicarrier demodulators (MCDs), where analogue and digital hardware are efficiently shared amongst the channels and digital signal processing is used at an early stage to take advantage of VLSI technology. A MCD consists of a channeliser for separation of FDM channels followed by individual demodulators for each channel. The major research areas in MCD's are efficient implementation of channelisers and the optimal demodulation algorithms for the demodulator. This thesis is focused on the demodulator part of an MCD using OQPSK modulation which haye received attention recently due to its spectral advantages in non-linear mobile satellite channels. Most of the research carried out on the OQPSK modulation has been addressed to its spectral performance under satellite channel non-linearities, but little attention has been paid to efficient receiver designs. The most important requirements of the demodulator in a mobile environment is fast acquisition with minimum overhead. This over-head includes long preambles in data frames to aid the acquisition of the carrier and the symbol timing recovery loops. In this thesis, research on preambleless all-digital demodulators for OQPSK has been carried out. The performance of the most suitable OQPSK synchronisation algorithms have been evaluated using extensive computer simulations. These algorithms have been selected after a comprehensive survey of digital synchronisation techniques. It is shown how these algorithms are related to the maximum likelihood (ML) principle and these algorithms are classified according to their technique of parameter extraction from the likelihood function. The synchronisation problems associated with OQPSK are pointed out with possible solutions. On the basis of the performance results of individual synchronisers, various demodulation algorithms for OQPSK have been developed for fixed, mobile and deep space applications. The DSP implementation of the all- digital OQPSK demodulator developed for the MCD for mobile applications is described in detail and its performance compared with simulation results.

Abstract:
ITC/USA 2006 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Second Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 23-26, 2006 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California
Many satellite payloads require wide-band channels for transmission of large amounts of data to users on the ground. These channels typically have substantial distortions, including bandlimiting distortions and high power amplifier (HPA) nonlinearities that cause substantial degradation of bit error rate performance compared to additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) scenarios. An adaptive equalization algorithm has been selected as the solution to improving bit error rate performance in the presence of these channel distortions. This paper describes the design and implementation of an adaptive baseband equalizer (ABBE) utilizing the latest FPGA technology. Implementation of the design was arrived at by first constructing a high fidelity channel simulation model, which incorporates worst-case signal impairments over the entire data link. All of the modem digital signal processing functions, including multirate carrier and symbol synchronization, are modeled, in addition to the adaptive complex baseband equalizer. Different feedback and feed-forward tap combinations are considered as part of the design optimization.

碩士
中華科技大學
電子工程研究所碩士班
100
This paper constructs the Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum(DS/SS)-Offset Quadrature Phase Shift Keying (OQPSK) communication system and conducts signal simulation analysis. First, it discusses the principle and architecture of the DS/SS-OQPSK communication system, which then designs, simulates and verifies the system by taking the Visual Studio C# software as the development tool. The transmitter then computes the spread spectrum codes for the input data during the In-Phase and Quadrature-Phase by adopting the Gold sequence and Kasami sequence respectively. It then modulates the signal data in branch I and Q by the means of OQPSK, which transmits the signal simulated by this system. At the receiver, it initially carries out the received signal then computes the non-coherent and despread spectrum means, which adds to the interference of White Gaussian Noise (WGN) channel. It also analyzes and explores the synchronization problems such as Phase-Locked Loop (PLL), Acquisition and Tracking respectively. Finally, the DS/SS-OQPSK communication system discussed in this paper, which is conducted in the WGN interference environment, can simulate and restore the binary sequence data signal correctly.

Abstract:
With regard to the technological demands associated with an increasingly larger usage of multimedia services and streaming in mobile environments, there is a considerable effort to ensure that communications can keep in line with this bandwidth growing consumption. It is, therefore, expected that the future of wireless networks lies in millimetric waves. In fact, millimetric waves allow replacing conventional antennas with smaller ones that can be grouped together to create multiple input multiple output schemes (MIMO). This concept enables increasing capacity gains. Millimetric waves operating at a high bandwidth, however, reveal some limitations, namely, free space losses, diffraction effects, as well as losses related with obstacles. Not only these, but there are also hardware implementation adversities, specifically regarding the efficiency level of the front-end level of amplification. The focus of this thesis is the transmission from the mobile device to the base station, where the power consumption restrictions of the amplification's front-end are more relevant, given the limitations associated with mobile devices' batteries. For that reason, the usage of Single Carrier (SC) communications is considered, since the transmitted signals result in a lower Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) when compared to Multi Carrier (MC) communications. Nevertheless, SC communications that make use of M-ary Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (M-QAM) and in which minimal band, Nyquist filtering is used to achieve a higher spectral efficiency, produce higher PAPR signals. In this dissertation, a technique that allows decomposing any M-ary constellation in a sum of several polar components is presented. This way, and because OQPSK signals possess low envelope fluctuations, (related with the time lag between their phase and quadrature components), IT is possible to amplify efficiently the different OQPSK components, and combining them after in order to form a high order constellation. By associating the decomposition technique with Ring Magnitude Modulation (RMM) techniques, an efficient amplification can be obtained, when relying on non-linear amplifiers. A simulation performance was executed, with the obtained results being presented through a BER curve, where M=16, and a proof of concept was conducted, by implementing the mentioned technique in software-defined radio platforms.
FCT
