Abstract:
SYNOPSIS The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has adopted the eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) in a multi-year program to enhance the functionality of the Commission's EDGAR database. Filers tag their financial statements with elements from a taxonomy that defines the reporting concepts so that the XBRL files can be understood by information consumers. The U.S. GAAP taxonomy was designed to represent common reporting practices and support the disclosure requirements of U.S. GAAP. If taxonomy elements for each disclosure concept are not present, the filer creates an extension element. Extensions, when used appropriately, provide decision-relevant information. When used inappropriately, particularly when a semantically equivalent element already exists in the foundation taxonomy, extensions add no information content. This research analyzes extensions made in a subset of XBRL filings made to the SEC between April 2009 and June 2010. Forty percent of these extensions were unnecessary, as semantically equivalent elements were already in the U.S. GAAP taxonomy. Extensions that aggregated or disaggregated existing elements comprised 21 percent of the extensions. New concepts accounted for 30 percent of the extensions, although many were variants of existing elements, rather than significantly new concepts.

Abstract:
The phenotypic features of liver sinusoidal endothelial cells (SEC), open fenestrae in sieve plates and lack of a basement membrane, are lost with capillarization. The current study examines localization of CD31 as a marker for the dedifferentiated, nonfenestrated SEC and examines regulation of SEC phenotype in vitro. CD31 localization in SEC was examined by confocal microscopy and immunogold-scanning electron microscopy. SEC cultured for 1 day express CD31 in the cytoplasm, whereas after 3 days, CD31 is also expressed on cell-cell junctions. Immunogold-scanning electron microscopy confirmed the absence of CD31 surface expression on fenestrated SEC 1 day after isolation and demonstrated the appearance of CD31 surface expression on SEC that had lost fenestration after 3 days in culture. SEC isolated from fibrotic liver do show increased expression of CD31 on the cell surface. Coculture with either hepatocytes or stellate cells prevents CD31 surface expression, and this effect does not require heterotypic contact. The paracrine effect of hepatocytes or stellate cells on SEC phenotype is abolished with anti-VEGF antibody and is reproduced by addition of VEGF to SEC cultured alone. VEGF stimulates SEC production of nitric oxide. NG-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester blocked the paracrine effect of hepatocytes or stellate cells on SEC phenotype and blocked the ability of VEGF to preserve the phenotype of SEC cultured alone. In conclusion, surface expression of CD31 is a marker of a dedifferentiated, nonfenestrated SEC. The VEGF-mediated paracrine effect of hepatocytes or stellate cells on maintenance of SEC phenotype requires autocrine production of nitric oxide by SEC.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of different contraction times and delay times prior to a positioning task. While blindfolded, each of 25 subjects learned to produce elbow-extension movements to a short and a long target using a kinesthesiometer. The subject then produced 30 trials without feedback to each target. These control trials were preceded by a foreperiod of 0-, 3-, or 6-sec. delay. The 60 experimental trials were identical to control trials except the subject isometrically contracted elbow extensor muscles for 3 or 6 sec. prior to each trial. Following each isometric contraction the subject delayed movement for 0, 3, or 6 sec. The 3-sec. and 6-sec. prepositioning contractions produced greater undershooting and variability than no prepositioning contractions, and the 0-sec. delay produced less constant error than either the 3- or 6-sec. delay. It was concluded that following isometric contraction, undershooting a target occurred and this effect did not dissipate within a 6-sec. period.

Abstract:
Abstract Strong-motion records from a velocity meter were recorded at an epicentral distance of 4.5 km from the January 12, 1984 eastern Missouri earthquake of mb = 3.0. Peak values of ground velocity, associated with only one or two wave cycles, are: transverse component, 0.18 cm/sec; radial component, 0.16 cm/sec; vertical component, 0.12 cm/sec. The levels of the sustained motion, which extends from the onset of S to about 0.4 sec later, are: transverse component, 0.064 cm/sec; radial component, 0.061 cm/sec; vertical component, 0.061 cm/sec. The data are consistent with a spectral scaling relation assuming either a 3.5 or 4.0 slope of the logarithm of the seismic moment versus the logarithm of the corner frequency, but cannot be used to choose between the two relations.

Abstract:
SummarySpontaneous echo contrast (SEC) is frequently observed in patients with structural and functional cardiovascular abnormalities. Literature describes cases of SEC either from agglutination of red blood cells and plasma proteins or from microcavitations. SEC secondary to the former is an independent predictor of future thromboembolic events and is most commonly observed in the left atrium or left atrial appendage. Thus, many authors reason that left atrial SEC is an indication for initiating anticoagulant therapy. We report a rare case of right atrial SEC that was incidentally found during echocardiographic evaluation of isolated peripheral edema in a healthy adult with a structurally normal heart. At present, there are no studies to offer guidance for management of right atrial SEC. This case emphasizes a necessary area of future research.Learning pointsCardiovascular implications of SEC.Diagnostic evaluation and management of SEC.

Abstract:
Background: Previously conducted researches showed that presence of SEC in the left atrium can constitute a risk factor for thrombus formation. Some previous studies have also reported that in addition to atrial fibrillation and blood stasis in the left atrium, the pathophysiology of left atrial thrombus and SEC occurring in patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis exhibits some other mechanisms, such as autoimmunity, inflammation and increased thrombotic activity. Methods: Cross sectional study was conducted between July 2015 to July 2017 in patient who admitted to Haji Adam Malik Hospital due to rheumatic mitral stenosis. They were divided into two groups according to presence of left atrial SEC. Result: From 104 patients, 52 (mean age 40 ± 11 years; 71,2% women) were in the left atrial SEC-negative group and 52 patients (mean age 40 ± 10 years; 73,1% women) were in the left atrial SEC-positive group. There were no significant differences in the leucocyte, 8,06±1,54 were in the left atrial SEC-negative group and 7,37±1,76 were in the left atrial SEC-positive group. In multivariate analysis, atrial fibrillation (OR = 51,311, 95% CI 3,723 – 707,100, p = 0,003) neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (OR = 21,641, 95% CI 5,174 – 90,528, p < 0,001), mitral valve area (OR = 14,423, 95% CI 1,665 – 124,908, p = 0,015), and RDW (OR = 5,743, 95% CI 1,349 – 24,445, p = 0,018), These study show that neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio with cut off point of >3,2 had sensitivity, spesificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value to predict left atrial SEC is the same 81%, respectively. Conclusion: Atrial fibrillation, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio, RDW and mitral valve area can predict left atrial spontaneous echocardiographic contrast in rheumatic mitral stenosis patients.

Abstract:

In recent years, information revolution improves all high-tech industries which are in the world, and high-tech corporates which are in Taiwan have owned the most important degree in the world on basis of good production technique、lower product price and flexible production. For Taiwan, improvement of high-tech corporates also makes economics grow during the recent years. In the other way, the changes of price index of stock market in Taiwan were usually effected by information and electronic industry. The condition shows that the information and electronic industry plays a very important role in Taiwan. High-tech industry faces the more competition than other industries because of its industrial characteristics (example: shorter product life cycle). In Taiwan, most production and R&D techniques of information and electronic corporates are hold by foreign corporates, so the condition makes them accept more competition pressure. Under some factors, such as competition of domestic corporates and foreign corporates、bad R&D techniques etc., the information and electronic corporates in Taiwan have to adopt more flexible method of enterprise growth to make up their defects and improve or keep their competition advantages. The importance of international strategic alliance will showed up gradually. The studying samples are the information and electronic corporates of stock listed on SEC or OTC in Taiwan and they announced international strategic alliances between Jan. 1996 and Dec. 2000. I got eighty-four samples and adopted event study. The results reveal that: 1. Announcements of international strategic alliances have obviously obverse effect to common stock price. 2. Whatever domestic information and electronic corporates are listed on SEC or OTC, their announcements of international strategic alliances have obviously obverse effect to their common stock price. 3. Announcements of international strategic alliances have more obviously obverse effect to information and electronic corporates of stock listed OTC than information and electronic corporates of stock listed SEC. 4. When partners of international strategic alliances are not listed on Nasdaq or NYSE, this kind of alliance has more obviously obverse effect to their common stock price than the other kind of alliance which partners of international strategic alliances are listed on Nasdaq or NYSE.

With the change of value-creation process, firms take more intangible resource than tangible resource in new economic era. Only using the financial measures and emphasizing financial report cannot capture and value the real market value of firms. The situation always happens in high-tech industries, and it is also the reason for the difference between market value and book value. For the situation, this research applies the balanced scorecard structure to explain the difference between market value and book value. The research is an empirical study on electronic and information industry in Taiwan from 1998 to 2000. The study takes the traditional financial performance measures (Net income) and new financial performance measures (Economic Value Added, EVA; Residual Income, RI) for financial performance dimension in balanced scorecard structure. Besides, it takes the indicators of intangible asset measurement for the non-financial performance dimension in balanced scorecard structure. This study is not only analyzing the full industry but also considering the difference in value-creation process to find whether firms locate in different value-creation process display the different non-financial performance. The main findings of the empirical study are as follows: 1. The item ”net income” in financial report of firms has no informational content to explain the market value of firms. When dividing the item “net income” into several financial measures, these financial measures could increase the explanation for the market value of firms obviously. 2. EVA and RI are less relevant than traditional financial performance measure (net income) to the difference between market value and book value. Furthermore, the empirical model has been composed of financial measures, the new financial performance measures (EVA; RI) can provide the incremental explanation for market value of firms. 3. New financial performance measures (EVA; RI) have the similar informational content to explain the market value of firms. Keyword: Balanced Scorecard, Economic Value Added (EVA), Residual Income (RI), Intellectual Capital, Market Value and Book Value, Intangible Asset.

Abstract:
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has upgraded the Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval (EDGAR) system, to the Interactive Data Electronic Applications (IDEA) platform, or the Next-Generation EDGAR (New EDGAR). The SEC issued its final mandate for XBRL adoption and the conversion target dates for all firms in January 2009. With this conversion, users can retrieve the financial statement information of listed companies at both the document level and data element level. This chapter reviews the fundamental concepts of XBRL and reports on the current compliance status of the SEC XBRL conversion mandate. The main task is to demonstrate how to retrieve data from the New EDGAR and how to process the data with Microsoft Excel 2010.

Abstract:
The nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra of two enantiomers are identical. Thus, the first step in using NMR to distinguish between two enantiomers should be to produce different spectra that eventually can be associated with their different stereochemistry (i.e., the assignment of their absolute configuration). Therefore, it is necessary to introduce a chiral reagent in the NMR media. There are two ways to address this problem. One is to use a chiral solvent, or a chiral agent, that combines with each enantiomer of the substrate to produce diastereomeric complexes/associations that lead to different spectra. This is the so-called chiral solvating agent (CSA) approach; it will not be further discussed here [33–34]. The second approach is to use a chiral auxiliary reagent [13–15] (i.e., a chiral derivatizing agent; CDA) that bonds to the substrate by a covalent linkage. Thus, in the most general method, the two enantiomers of the auxiliary CDA react separately with the substrate, giving two diastereomeric derivatives whose spectral differences carry information that can be associated with their stereochemistry. The CDA method that employs arylalcoxyacetic acids as auxiliaries is the most frequently used. It can be applied to a number of monofunctionals [14–15] (secondary alcohols [35–43], primary alcohols [44–46], aldehyde [47] and ketone cyanohydrins [48–49], thiols [50–51], primary amines [52–56], and carboxylic acids [57–58]), difunctional [13] (sec/sec-1,2-diols [59–61], sec/sec-1,2-amino alcohols [62], prim/sec-1,2-diols [63–65], prim/sec-1,2-aminoalcohols, and sec/prim-1,2-aminoalcohols [66–68]), and trifunctional (prim/sec/sec-1,2,3-triols [13, 69–70]) chiral compounds. Its scope and limitations are well established, and its theoretical foundations are well known, making it a reliable tool for configurational assignment. Figure 1.1 shows a summary of the steps to be followed for the assignment of absolute configuration of a chiral compound with just one asymmetric carbon and with substituents that, for simplicity, are assumed to resonate as singlets. Step 1 (Figure 1.1a): A substrate of unknown configuration (?) is separately derivatized with the two enantiomers of a chiral auxiliary reagent, (R)-Aux and (S)-Aux, producing two diastereomeric derivatives.

Abstract:
It was emphasized in Chapter 1 that low-order, linear time-invariant models provide the foundation for much intuition about dynamic phenomena in the real world. This chapter provides a brief review of the characteristics and behavior of linear models, beginning with these simple cases and then progressing to more complex examples where this intuition no longer holds: infinite-dimensional and time-varying linear models. In continuous time, infinite-dimensional linear models arise naturally from linear partial differential equations whereas in discrete time, infinite-dimensional linear models may be used to represent a variety of “slow decay” effects. Time-varying linear models are also extremely flexible: In the continuous-time case, many of the ordinary differential equations defining special functions (e.g., the equations defining Bessel functions) may be viewed as time-varying linear models; in the discrete case, the gamma function arises naturally as the solution of a time-varying difference equation. Sec. 2.1 gives a brief discussion of low-order, time-invariant linear dynamic models, using second-order examples to illustrate both the “typical” and “less typical” behavior that is possible for these models. One of the most powerful results of linear system theory is that any time-invariant linear dynamic system may be represented as either a moving average (i.e., convolution-type) model or an autoregressive one. Sec. 2.2 presents a short review of these ideas, which will serve to establish both notation and a certain amount of useful intuition for the discussion of NARMAX models presented in Chapter 4. Sec. 2.3 then briefly considers the problem of characterizing linear models, introducing four standard input sequences that are typical of those used in linear model characterization. These standard sequences are then used in subsequent chapters to illustrate differences between nonlinear model behavior and linear model behavior. Sec. 2.4 provides a brief introduction to infinite-dimensional linear systems, including both continuous-time and discrete-time examples. Sec. 2.5 provides a similar introduction to the subject of time-varying linear systems, emphasizing the flexibility of this class. Finally, Sec. 2.6 briefly considers the nature of linearity, presenting some results that may be used to define useful classes of nonlinear models.

Abstract:
One emerging transnational trend in anti-corruption efforts is the phenomenon of “carbon-copy prosecutions”: when foreign or domestic Jurisdiction A files charges based on a guilty plea or charging document from Jurisdiction B. The net effect of DOJ and SEC FCPA settlement policies is that when a company enters into a negotiated resolution with U.S. enforcers, it is essentially powerless to defend against—much less deny—the factual basis on which the resolution is based. This all but ensures that a company that settles with the DOJ—or both the DOJ and SEC in parallel proceedings—will have little or no choice but to settle with U.S. and foreign authorities, should such authorities choose to exercise jurisdiction and enforce their corollary anti-corruption laws. Duplicative serial enforcement actions are now part and parcel of the enforcement landscape, despite a healthy ongoing debate over the need for, and fairness of, serial enforcements.

Abstract:
The minimum hydrostatic test pressure for class 2 and 3 components has been reduced from 1.5 to 1.25 times the Design Pressure in ASME B&PV Sec. III, Division 1 since 1999 addenda. If these requirements are applied to the system hydrostatic test as they are, the minimum hydrostatic test pressure of components and system becomes identical. Therefore it may happen that the test pressure imposed on components installed at low locations in the system exceeds the maximum permissible pressure due to the static head during the system hydrostatic test. PWHT temperature requirements for P-No.4 materials in various Construction Codes, such as ASME B31.1, Sec. I and Sec. VIII, except Sec. III have been unified and the minimum PWHT temperature became 649°C (120°F) since 2004 edition. When considering the mechanical properties of the weld, the minimum PWHT temperature of 593°C or that of P No. 4 materials in Sec. III is too low to reduce hardness and to increase toughness. When PWHT is performed on dissimilar material joints (e.g., between P-No.1 or P-No. 3 and P-No. 4) at 649°C (1200°F) in accordance with Sec. VIII etc., it is possible that the strength of the lower P-No. materials is decreased below the design strength because the PWHT temperature will exceed the tempering temperature of the lower P-No. materials. In this study, the cases of system hydrostatic test in UC-3, 4 units and Steam Generator Nozzle to feedwater pipe joint in Korea Standard Nuclear Power Plants (e.g., UC-3, 4 units, YK-3, 4 units and YK-5, 6 units) were reviewed and analyzed. And then problems of two cases were presented. It is suggested that the minimum system hydrostatic test pressure in Sec. III NC, ND should be decreased by the reduction rate of test pressure for components and the minimum PWHT temperature for P No. 4 materials in Sec. III should be 630°C (1166°F).

Abstract:
Understanding the earliest events (< 1 sec) in signal transduction of platelets is important, since there is evicenee that “shape change,” aggregation and secretion can all begin within this period. We have employed a guenched-flow approach to study these early events and found that thrombin can induce rapid phosphorylation of myosin light-chain kinase (20K) and a 47K protein (Blood, 67, 1738, 1986). To investigate the role of rapid phosphorylations in platelet activation, we have studied the influence of adrenalin and ADP during early (0.3 to 5 sec) stimulation. Aggregation in washed human platelets was assessed by following the loss of single particles and phosphorylation by analysing 32P-labeled proteins after gel electrophoresis. 15 µM adrenalin (without ADP) did not initiate significant aggregation or phosphorylation of myosin light chain (MLC). Phosphorylation of the 47K protein was increased by 20% at 5 sec. 0.5 µM ADP did not induce significant aggregation, but increased phosphorylation of MLC by 130% and the 47 protein by 20%. The combination of 0.5 µM ADP and 15 uM adrenalin induced significant aggregation by 0,3 sec (7.6%), which increased to 25.6% by 5 sec. Interestingly, MLC or 47K protein phosphorylation was not increased above control levels. However, the phosphorylation of four other proteins (77K, 102K, 140K and 185K), which previously had been very rapid (<1 sec) and reversible with 0.5 µM ADP alone, was now maintained, peaking at 3 sec. 10 µM ADP caused small sustained increases in phosphorylation of the same proteins. Adrenalin also caused rapid increases in the phosphorylation of 27K, 213 and 250K proteins. High levels of ADP (10 µM) only increased the 213 and 250K proteins; therefore the 27K protein appears adrenalin specific. Analysis of these early platelet phosphorylations will help understand how they are linked to initiation and maintenance of aggregation. Supported by NIH HL-27014.

Abstract:
TRACE/PARCS coupling model of Lungmen NPP has been used to analyze the full isolation startup test, defined as a simultaneous full closure of all MSIVs (Main Steamline Isolation Valve). In this analysis, the full closure time of MSIVs was varied by 2 sec, 3sec (base), and 4 sec. As MSIV was closed to 90% full open position, a reactor power scram signal was initiated. For each of MSIV full closure time, the delayed time of scram signal to the start of control rod insertion was varied by base 0.09 sec, 0.04 sec, and 0.14 sec. Because of MSIVs closure, the increasing reactor dome pressure reached the setpoint of relief valves (RVs) and caused RVs to open. The 4 reactor internal pumps (RIPs) not connected to the M/G sets tripped and were runback to minimum pump speed when water level dropped to L3. The 6 RIPs connected to the M/G sets tripped if low water level (L2) or high reactor dome pressure (1140 psia) had been reached. Those important thermal parameters with various MSIV full closure times (2, 3, and 4sec) and various reactor scram signal delay times (0.09, 0.04, and 0.14 sec) are compared and shown in this paper.

Abstract:
Subsequent to an initial activation, several products are released from the platelets, and -potentially- contribute to the recruitment of new cells to build up the eventual platelet haemostatic plug or thrombus. Among the various accussates, serotonin as well as the arachidonic acid derivatives thromboxane A2 (TXA2) and prostaglandin endoperoxides (PGEND) seem to be involved as causative mediators, in particular when acting in concert on the same target cells. Indeed, in vitro at concentrations achievable after oral administration to man, either ketanserin (K), an S2-serotonergic receptor antagonist or BM 13177 (BM), an antagonist at TXA2/PGEND receptors, pre-incubated separately for 5 rain at 37°C with human citrated platelet-rich plasma, reduces to some extent the rate of the second-wave, irreversible platelet aggregation elicited by critical concentrations (1 to 2 × 10−6 M) of ADP. However, the combindation of both agonists results in a significantly more pronounced inhibition than achieved with the single products (K 1 × 10−7 M : 26.1 ± S.E.M. 9.9 %, n = 8. p < 0.05; BM 1 × 10−77 M : 25.1 ± S.E.M. 8.7%, n = 8, p < 0.05; K ± BM at 1 × 10−7 M each ; 65.5 ± S.E.M. 10.3 %, n = 8; p < 0.05 versus K or BM separately). In vivo in rats, a modest prolongation of the bleeding time occurs with K (1.25 mg/kg orally -2 h : 410 sec, median values n = 9, p < 0.05) but not with BM (40 mg/kg orally, -2 h : 250 sec, n = 9) in comparison with controls (190 sec, n = 9); the amount of initial blood loss as a parameter for anti-vasoconstriction is significantly increased by K (140.4 μl/30 sec) but not by BM (77.2 μl/30 sec) in comparison with controls (35 μl/30 sec). Again, the combined treatment with both agonists results in a marked prolongation of the bleeding times (> 2065 sec, n = 9, p < 0.05) without further significant increase of the initial blood loss, indicating the interplay between serotonin and TXA2/PGEND to be of primary importance for the aggregation of platelets in damaged vessels.

Abstract:
A CD9 monoclonal antibody described to aggregate human platelets was studied on different platelet functions in order to determine its mechani^i of action. The mAb ALB6 induces a transient decrease in P-phosphatidylinositol-4,5 bisphos-phate (PIP2) after a lag phase of 35 sec. This results in a synthesis of P-phosphatidate (PA), calcium mobilization as measured by quin 2 and phosphorylation of myosin light chain (P20) and of 43 kDa protein (P43). All these biochemical steps allow the release of dense granule, alpha-granule and lysosome constituents. Final biological and metabolic effects of thrombin and ALB6 thus appear similar but three main differences bring additional information.(1) The kinetic of thrombin-induced effects is faster. (2) The thrombin-induced release of dense granules compared to alpha-granules and lyso-somes occurs extremely rapidly (50% of the maximum C 5-HT releasable at 5 sec) and is considerably slowed down by the presence of EDTA (50% release of 14C 5-HT at 20 sec.), whereas the release of the three types of granules occurs concomitantly in the case of ALB6 -induced aggregation whether EDTA is present or not. (3) Myosin light chain is phosphorylated in both cases but external calcium is necessary for maximum phosphorylation by thrombin since it is inhibited by EDTA, which is not the case with ALB6.The ALB6-induced lag phase would result from the fact that the signal transmission has to occur from the external non integral membrane CD9 antigen molecule and the internal phospholipase C. The different requirements in external calcium for the responses induced by the two types of inducers suggest that the early myosin light chain phosphorylation and dense granule release induced by thrombin coulcL be at least partly dependent on the entry of external Ca2+ through a putative Ca2+ channel.

Abstract:
The process of platelet adhesion to sites of vascular injury is pivotal for the arrest of bleeding. The same process may, on the other hand, lead to formation of mural thrombi and may play a role in atherogenesis through the release of platelet-derived growth factor. The events of platelet-surface adhesion may be divided into initial attachment and the subsequent spreading on the surface. These interactions are mediated by a variety of factors, including glycoproteins (GP) in the platelet membrane, von Willebrand factor (vWF) in plasma, and the composition of the surface. However, in most instances their effects on adhesion are dependent on the shear rate.We have investigated the importance of some of these factors in flowing blood at shear rates ranging from those present in large arteries (≃ 200 sec-1) to those present in the microcirculation (≃2600 sec-1). We used annular- and parallel-plate-perfusion chambers with de-endothelial-ized human arteries and collagen-coated surfaces, respectively. A highly reactive surface, such as formed by collagen fibrils, triggers rapid platelet adhesion and thrombus growth on the upstream portion of the surface. This rapid consumption of platelets depletes the boundary layer of the blood flow of platelets, resulting in fewer platelets to adhere further downstream. This effect is most pronounced at shear rates below 650 sec-1, i.e., at conditions with low radial transport of platelets. This phenomenon, apparently physical in nature, we have termed "axial dependence."Deficiency of GPIb results in impaired initial attachment of platelets to subendothelium, a defect which virtually abolishes initial attachment at shear rates above 500 sec-1. However, inhibition of binding of ADP to its putative 100Kd GP receptor by the adenosine analogue 5'-p-fluoro-sulfonyl-adenosine completely prevents initial attachment of platelets. Conversely, deficiency of GPIIb/IIIa results in partially impaired platelet spreading (20-50%), but only at shear rates above 1000 sec-1; deficiency of GPIa results in no platelet spreading, independent of the shear rate. The importance of GPIb and GPIIb/IIIa in adhesion was further demonstrated by experiments using monoclonal antibodies to either GPIb or GPIIb/IIIa.Addition of these antibodies to blood from healthy subjects duplicates the effects found in the natural deficiency states. Furthermore, we used two monoclonal antibodies to vWF, which specifically inhibit either ristocetin-induced binding of vWF to GPIb or thrombin/ADP-induced binding of vWF to GPIIb/IIIa. Each of these antibodies inhibits ≃ 90% of adhesion at 2600 sec-1 shear rate, while no effect is seen at 650 sec-1. Inhibition of binding of vWF, fibronectin, and fibrinogen to GPIIb/IIIa by a dodecapeptide of the γ-carboxy terminus of fibrinogen inhibits ≃ 30% of adhesion in normal blood at 2600 sec-1 shear rate. No effect is present at 650 sec-1 shear rate. These experiments indicate that (1) ADP and/or its putative receptor and GPIb are involved in the early phase of adhesion, whereas (2) GPIa and GPIIb/IIIa are involved in the spreading reaction. It is also apparent that (3) GPIb and GPIIb/IIIa act as receptors for vWF in the process of bridging the platelet to sites of vascular injury, and that (4) vWF is required for both initial attachment and spreading. (5) The shear rate has an unambiguous role in these complex interactions and in the "axial dependence" phenomenon.

For construction of TF coil, a “Fabrication and Installation” standard FM-4000, accompanying a mandatory Appendix 41 “Welded Joint” and a “Nondestructive Examination” standard FM-5000 accompanying a mandatory Appendix 51 for “Ultrasonic Examination Method” and a “Pressure and Leak Testing” standard FM-6000 have been developed, based on other JSME standards for nuclear power plant (JSME S NB1) and also ASME Sec. III ND, NF or Sec. VIII-div.2 Since TF coil structure does not include radioactive materials but is operated under high stress produced by high magnetic field, it is not safety-relevant-barrier. The requirements to construction should be relaxed in comparison with a fission reactor. The TF coil structure is mainly classified into two divisions; (1) Jacket and helium cooling pipe that is required for leak tightness, and (2) The general structure which is stressed only by the electromagnetic force. For the welded joint in the structure part (1), more severe requirements for nondestructive examination are prescribed in addition to the requirement for pressure and leak testing, based on JSME S NB1 and ASME Sec. III ND, NF or Sec. VIII-div.2. All of weld joints are classified into 6 categories depending on strength and direction of the stress induced by the magnetic field. Approved weld joint configuration and welding processes, nondestructive examinations, pressure and leak testing required and also acceptance criteria of discontinuity are defined in each category. Qualification of welding personnel and inspector are also defined, but its final responsibility is to the owner of TF coil.

Abstract:
Strain rate response of PMMA was investigated under uniaxial compression at different rates of strain ranging from 0.0001/sec to about 4300/sec. High rate experiments (greater than 1/sec rates) were conducted using a split-Hopkinson Pressure bar (SHPB) with pulse-shaping to impose the compressive loading of the specimen at constant strain rate under dynamic stress equilibrium. At strain rates 1/s and below, intrinsic softening occurred after the initial yield and then followed by the strain hardening. However, at 1/s strain rate, material started to soften further due to thermal softening dominating over strain hardening. For higher strain rates (greater than 1/s), PMMA failed before, during or immediately after the yield depending on the rate of loading. For these high rates, strain to failure decreases with the increase in the strain rates whereas failure stress (except at very high rates where failure occurred before yielding) and modulus increase with increasing strain rate.

For analyzing the temperature profile across microchannel a for flow rate of 0.012 kg/sec with heat input 5.33 watt/cm2 under laminar flow is considered.. For single microchannel the temperature rise of water is in range of 1 °K to 2 °K at center plane of microchannel. It is found that at leading edges or leaving edge the temperature rise in water is higher as compare to entering edge of microchannel. It is due to while entering to leaving of water particles in microchannel it collapse each other and try to increasing friction along each other so at outlet or leading edge the temperature rise is seen higher as compare to in let portion of single microchannel.

[3H]Myo-inositol (1,4,5)trisphosphate ((1,4,5)IP3), when added to lysed platelets, was rapidly converted to [3H]inositol ,3,4,5)tetrakisphosphate which was in turn converted to [3H]inositol (1,3,4)trisphosphate. This result demonstrates that platelets have the same metabolic pathways for interconversion of inositol polyphosphates that are found in other cells. Labelling of platelets with [32P]orthophosphate, followed by h.l.p.c. was used to measure thrombin-induced changes in the three inositol polyphosphates. Interfering compounds were removed by a combination of enzymatic and nonenzymatic techniques. [32P]-(1,4,5)IP3 was formed rapidly and reached its maximal level at about 4 sec. It was also rapidly degraded and was no longer detectable after 30-60 sec. Formation of (1.3.4.5)IP4 was almost as rapid as that of (1,4,5)IP3 and remained at detectable levels for a longer time. (1,3,4)IP3 was formed after an initial lag and this isomer reached its maximal level that was ten-fold higher than that of (1,4,5)IP3 at 30 sec. Comparison of the intracellular Ca2+ concentration as measured with fura-2 indicates that agents other than (1,4,5)IP3 are responsible |or the sustained maintenance of a high level of intracellular Ca2+. It is proposed that either (1,3,4)IP3 or (1.3.4.5)IP4 may also be Ca2+ -mobilizing agents.

Abstract:
The modular workshop offers a science-based introduction to the concept of social-emotional competences. It focuses on the psychological assessment of such competences in in institutions specialized in the professional development of people with learning disabilities. As such, the workshop is primarily to be understood as an application-oriented training programme for professionals who work in vocational education and use (or teach the usage of) the assessment tools SEC-I and SEC-SJT (Inventory and Situational Judgment Test for the assessment of social-emotional competence in young people with (sub-) clinical cognitive or psychological impairment) which were developed at the University of Bamberg. The workshop comprises seven subject areas that can be flexibly put together as required: theoretical basics and definitions of social-emotional competence, the basics of psychological assessment, potential difficulties in its use, usage of the self-rating scale, the situational judgment test, the observer-rating scale, and objective observation of behaviour. The general aim of this workshop is to learn how to use and apply the assessment tools in practical settings.

Abstract:
Improvements in instructional coherence have been shown to have large impacts on student learning, yet analysis of such coherence, especially in developing countries and at a systems level, is rare. We use an established methodology, the Surveys of Enacted Curriculum (SEC), and apply it to a developing country context to systematically analyze and quantify the content and coherence of the primary curriculum standards, national examinations, and actual teaching delivered in the classroom in Uganda and Tanzania. We find high levels of incoherence across all three instructional components. In Uganda, for example, only four of the fourteen topics in the English curriculum standards appear on the primary leaving exam, and two of the highest-priority topics in the standards are completely omitted from the exams. In Tanzania, only three of fourteen English topics are covered on the exam, and all are assessed at the “memorization” level. Rather than aligning with either the curriculum standards or exams, teachers’ classroom instruction is poorly aligned with both. Teachers tend to cover broad swathes of content and levels of cognitive demand, unrelated to the structure of either the curriculum standards or exams. An exception is Uganda mathematics, for which standards, exams, and teacher instruction are all well aligned. By shedding light on alignment deficits in the two countries, these results draw attention to a policy area that has previously attracted little (if any) attention in many developing countries’ education policy reform efforts. In addition to providing empirical results for Uganda and Tanzania, this study provides a proof-of-concept for the use of the SEC methodology as a diagnostic tool in developing countries, helping education systems identify areas of instructional (in)coherence and informing efforts to improve coherence for learning.
