Abstract:
Databases are present everywhere in our modern society and the amount of data that have to be stored is constantly increasing, which means that it’s now more important than ever to be able to handle massive data sets e‚ffectively. NoSQL databases2 were developed to solve this problem by efficiently storing large amounts of data and enable fast access to that data. Since NoSQL databases only became popular within the last ten years, they haven’t been as well researched as relational databases. An in-depth evaluation is carried out on six distinct features, where one part is comparative performance tests. Th‘e other features are: scalability, consistency, availability, durability and reliability. MongoDB and Oracle NoSQL are the NoSQL databases used and together with Oracle RDBMS as relational database make up the basis for a comparative study of the above mentioned features.Th‘e results showed that there are big diff‚erences between how data is handled in NoSQL compared to relational databases that will aff‚ect the choice of database, e.g. that NoSQL tends to prioritize that clients can reach the database over non-contradictory data and lowering the demands on transaction management to increase performance and storage capacity. Furthermore, the performance tests showed that both NoSQL databases performed be‹er than the relational database regardless of the data set size. MongoDB was clearly the fastest on reading operations, while Oracle NoSQL performed write operations the fastest most of the time. Both NoSQL databases are impacted less by a growing data set than the relational database for both read and write operations.

Abstract:
This is a report for our thesis that was conducted as a conclusion of our bachelor degree in Business engineering at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH). The work is done in cooperation with the firm Navigate Consulting Business Solutions AB. They have their leading expertise in Oracle E-Business Suite and has previously chosen to implement Oracle EBS R12. The modules that are planned to be implemented are general ledger (GL), accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), project module (PA), purchases, and CRM. For a consulting company like Navigate, it is particularly important to have a simple and effective time reporting process. We were therefore asked to provide new tabs with a decision-making process to determine if Oracle Time &amp; Labor (OTL) is a useful time tracking system for their business. In order to achieve the company´s aim and objective we decided to follow a development method with five different phases. The phases included a set of work steps that generated various documents, which gave us enough information to structure the entire company and helped us to create a clear picture of the organization and its structure. From this, we could work out a requirements document and then map those requirements to OTL. This resulted in a gap analysis where you can read the requirements that are handled by OTL and possible solutions to the requirements that OTL doesn´t handle. The result of this work is presented in process maps, a requirement specification, an use case documents, and a GAP analysis.<br>Detta är en rapport för vårt examensarbete som har genomförts som en avslutning på vår kandidatutbildning Affärssystem vid Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (KTH).

Abstract:

Databases and database technology are having a major impact on the growing use of computers. It is fair to say that databases are playing a critical role in almost all areas where computers are used, including business, engineering, medicine, law, education, and library science, to name a few.At Ball State University, databases are very widely used among faculty, staff, and students. The common commercial database management system (DBMS) used in the university is ORACLE. Due to the extensive use of the system and the availability and easy access to alternative systems such as RDB/VMS, a comparative research is in order. This thesis is a comprehensive comparison between the two systems. It covers the differences in design, SQL codings, and the use of host programming language such as FORTRAN. It concentrates on the differences in memory usage, execution time, as well as the CPU time needed to precompile, link, and run.<br>Department of Computer Science

This thesis examines ways of comparing performance of Oracle databases. The need to compare performance is given by making changes in database systems, for example changes in databases structures or database management systems. One of the goals of this thesis includes a description of options and ways of comparing performance of Oracle databases which does not involve any additional licensing costs. Because there is a need to evaluate obtained performance indicators, part of this thesis deals with the design and implementation tool, which allows analysis of data and their evaluation through defined reports. Functionality of the tool is verified and demonstrated on data obtained from real databases. The main contribution of this thesis is the implementation of the tool, which significantly facilitate evaluating performance impact of changes which should be made in the production database.

Abstract:
The following dissertation presents a new paradigm for improving the training of machine learning algorithms, oracle learning. The main idea in oracle learning is that instead of training directly on a set of data, a learning model is trained to approximate a given oracle's behavior on a set of data. This can be beneficial in situations where it is easier to obtain an oracle than it is to use it at application time. It is shown that oracle learning can be applied to more effectively reduce the size of artificial neural networks, to more efficiently take advantage of domain experts by approximating them, and to adapt a problem more effectively to a machine learning algorithm.

Abstract:

Abstract:
As the Internet evolves and security attacks become more sophisticated, security has become one of the most challenging issues for website development and maintenance. Oracle Education Foundation (OEF funded by Oracle Corporation) maintains 7000 websites in ThinkQuest Library. These websites are developed by elementary school students, with PHP, Perl, and MySQL technologies. Because they have insufficient knowledge in website security, their websites may contain security issues and are hard for OEF to maintain. The purpose of this thesis is to seek an efficient and accurate solution to clean up the website security issues in ThinkQuest Library. The thesis consists 3 parts: improvement of Apache web server security configuration; summarizing methodology of manual fixing vulnerabilities and developing a simple script tool for security issue detection and cleaning up. These achievements can prevent illegal operations and attacks on the websites in ThinkQuest web server.

Abstract:
Plusieurs expériences numériques seront décrites pour illustrer nos garanties théoriques et nos algorithmes<br>In many areas of statistics, including signal and image processing, high-dimensional estimation is an important task to recover an object of interest. However, in the overwhelming majority of cases, the recovery problem is ill-posed. Fortunately, even if the ambient dimension of the object to be restored (signal, image, video) is very large, its intrinsic ``complexity'' is generally small. The introduction of this prior information can be done through two approaches: (i) penalization (very popular) and (ii) aggregation by exponential weighting (EWA). The penalized approach aims at finding an estimator that minimizes a data loss function penalized by a term promoting objects of low (simple) complexity. The EWA combines a family of pre-estimators, each associated with a weight exponentially promoting the same objects of low complexity. This manuscript consists of two parts: a theoretical part and an algorithmic part. In the theoretical part, we first propose the EWA with a new family of priors promoting analysis-group sparse signals whose performance is guaranteed by oracle inequalities. Next, we will analysis the penalized estimator and EWA, with a general prior promoting simple objects, in a unified framework for establishing some theoretical guarantees. Two types of guarantees will be established: (i) prediction oracle inequalities, and (ii) estimation bounds. We will exemplify them for particular cases some of which studied in the literature. In the algorithmic part, we will propose an implementation of these estimators by combining Monte-Carlo simulation (Langevin diffusion process) and proximal splitting algorithms, and show their guarantees of convergence. Several numerical experiments will be considered for illustrating our theoretical guarantees and our algorithms

Abstract:
An integration solution must sustain multiple PeopleSoft upgrades, which is necessary to preserve investment in system integrations. Since the underlying structures and connection technologies of PeopleSoft have been and can be migrated from version to version in order to enhance features and performance, it is critical for any external component of integration to be built based on publicly visible interfaces of the PeopleSoft component. We have developed a standard-based solution to integrate “PeopleSoft Campus Solution” into “Microsoft SharePoint” using Web services generated by PeopleSoft’s Pure Internet Architecture. We have illustrated such kind of integration in two examples that emulate some of the imminent problems in the University’s current information systems between the PeopleSoft Campus and SharePoint Workflow. The methodology used in this is applicable to integrations of general COTS software systems into modern enterprise information systems.

Machado, Patricia D. L. "Testing from structured algebraic specifications : the oracle problem." Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2000. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/378.

Full text
Abstract:
Work in the area of specification-based testing has pointed out that testing can be effectively used to verify programs against formal specifications. The aim is to derive test information from formal specifications so that testing can be rigorously applied whenever full formal verification is not cost-effective. However, there are still several obstacles to be overcome in order to establish testing as a standard in formal frameworks. Accurate interpretation of test results is an extremely critical one. This thesis is concerned with testing programs against structured algebraic specifications where axioms are expressed in first-order logic with equations, the usual connectives and quantifiers. The main issue investigated is the so-called oracle problem, that is, whether a decision procedure can be defined for interpreting the results of tests according to a formal specification. In this context, testing consists in checking whether specification axioms are satisfied by programs. Consequently, tests exercise operations referred to by the axioms and oracles evaluate the axioms according to the results produced by the tests. The oracle problem for flat (unstructured) specifications often reduces to the problem of comparing two values of a non-observable sort, namely the equality problem, and also how to deal with quantifiers which may demand infinite test sets. Equality on non-observable sorts is interpreted up to behavioural equivalence with observational equivalence as an important special case. However, a procedure for implementing such a behavioural equality may be hard to define or even impossible. In this thesis, a solution to the oracle problem for flat specifications is presented which tackles the equality problem by using a pair of approximate equalities, one finer than behavioural equality and one coarser, and taking the syntactic position of quantifiers in formulae into account. Additionally, when structured specifications are considered, the oracle problem can be harder. The reason is that specifications may be composed of parts over different signatures, and the structure must be taken into account in order to interpret test results according to specification axioms. Also, an implementation of hidden (non-exported) symbols may be required in order to check axioms which refer to them. Two solutions to the oracle problem for structured specifications are presented in this thesis based on a compositional and a non-compositional style of testing, namely structured testing and flat testing respectively. Structured testing handles the oracle problem more effectively than flat testing and under fewer assumptions. Furthermore, testing from structured specifications may require an approach which lies in between flat and structured testing. Therefore, based on normalisation of ordinary specifications, three normal forms are presented for defining a more practical and combined approach to testing and also coping more effectively with the oracle problem. The use of normal forms gives rise to a style of testing called semi-structured testing where some parts of the specification are replaced by normal forms and the result is checked using structured testing. Testing from normal forms can be very convenient whenever the original specification is too complex or oracles cannot be defined from it.

Abstract:
This bachelor thesis has been carried out at Navigate Consulting Business Solutions AB, a consulting firm that provides enterprise resource planning (ERP) services, such as choice of ERP system solutions, implementation and management. The company is currently looking to expand their future ERP system, Oracle E-Business Suite R12, by supplementing the time reporting module Oracle Time and Labor. To find out if the system meets the business’s requirements and expectations, it is necessary for the company to get an idea of how well the system may be suited before they decide to implement it. With this basis, the aim of this bachelor thesis is to visualize the time reporting process and the requirements Navigate has for Oracle E-Business Suite R12, by using a prototype. An incremental and iterative method has been applied for the development of this prototype. The result of this bachelor thesis is an interactive prototype of the company's time reporting process. Several of their requirements have been visualized, and a total of fifteen screenshots have been produced for the development of the prototype. The screenshots have been connected together and supplied with interactivity through a prototyping tool called Justinmind Prototypes. The development of the prototype has been a time consuming process, yet despite this, potential benefits have been discovered. Compared to stills (traditional screenshot), an interactive prototype captures several aspects of the system which can be conveyed to the user. This could possibly serve as an effective sales tool for Navigate in the sale of e.g. Oracle E-Business Suite R12. To reduce the development time is recommended that the company builds up its own framework.

Context. It is very common today that e-commerce systems store sensitiveclient information. The database administrators of these typesof systems have access to this sensitive client information and are ableto manipulate it. Therefore, data integrity is of core importance inthese systems and methods to detect fraudulent behavior need to beimplemented. Objectives. The objective of this thesis is to implement and evaluatethe features and performance impact of different methods for achievingdata integrity in a database, Oracle to be more exact.Methods. Five methods for achieving data integrity were tested. The methods were tested in a controlled environment. Three of themwas tested and performance evaluated by a tool emulating a real lifee-commerce scenario. The focus of this thesis is to evaluate the performanceimpact and the fraud detection ability of the implementedmethods. Results. This paper evaluates traditional Digital signature, Linkedtimestamping applied to a Merkle hash tree and Auditing performanceimpact and feature impact wise. Two more methods were implementedand tested in a controlled environment, Merkle hash tree and Digitalwatermarking. We showed results from the empirical analysis, dataverification and transaction performance. In our evaluation we provedour hypothesis that traditional Digital signature is faster than Linkedtimestamping. Conclusions. In this thesis we conclude that when choosing a dataintegrity method to implement it is of great importance to know whichtype of operation is more frequently used. Our experiments show thatthe Digital signature method performed better than Linked timestampingand Auditing. Our experiments did also conclude that applicationof Digital signature, Linked timestamping and Auditing decreasedthe performance by 4%, 12% and 27% respectively, which is arelatively small price to pay for data integrity.

Oracle DBMS software was also analyzed to prove that it has all necessary components for spatial data manipulation. After summarizing analysis results we offer new GIS solution, which allows rendering enterprise data on the map in dynamic way without knowing enterprise data structure and minimizing programmer work. To implement a dynamic GIS conception a new dynamic GIS architecture and the missing component design for representing business data in a map are created. To ensure dynamic integration and simple usage of component, dynamic integration component functionality is based on business rules conception. To demonstrate dynamic enterprise and spatial data integration on the map, dynamic GIS architecture was implemented using Oracle software by configuring data integration component to use Oracle mapViewer. For dynamic GIS testing, test interface was created with an ability to write business rules directly in web page and see the integration results. Existing spatial data was imported into Oracle DB and some spatial data for testing purposes was created manually.

Abstract:
The train represents a complex system, where every sub-system has an important role. If a subsystem doesn’t work how it should, the correctness of whole the train can be uncertain. To ensure that system works properly, we should test each sub-system individually and integrate them together in the whole system. Each of these subsystems consists of the different modules with different functionalities what should be tested. Testing of different functionalities often requires a different approach. For some functionalities, it is necessary domain knowledge from the human expert, such as classification of signals in different use cases in Propulsion and Controls (PPC) in Bombardier Transportation. Due to this reason, we need to simulate of using experts knowledge in the certain domain. We are investigating the use of machine learning techniques for solving this cases and creating system what will automatically classify different signals using the previous human knowledge. This case study is conducted in Bombardier Transportation (BT), Västerås in departments Train Control Management System (TCMS) and Propulsion and Controls (PPC), where data is collected, analyzed and evaluated. We proposed a method for solving the oracle problem based on machine learning approach for different for certain use case. Also, we explained different steps what can be used for solving the test oracle problem where signals are part of verdict process

Jacobs, Deborah. "The images of space in the Third Sibylline Oracle." Doctoral thesis, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Theologische Fakultät, 2014. http://dx.doi.org/10.18452/16932.

Full text
Abstract:
Der endzeitliche Zustand, den die Sibylle für die Umsetzung der göttlichen Herrschaft auf Erden prophezeit, kann mit dem Begriff Utopie beschrieben werden.<br>Originally, the Sibylline Oracles were a Graeco-Roman literary genre, namely a collection of oracles composed in Greek hexamters which have not come down to us. The Sibylline Books that we have today are of Jewish and Christian origin and stem from a time when the genre was adapted first by Jews and then Christians. The altogether 14 books have developed between 150 BCE and 300 CE and for the longest time were only known through quotations in the church fathers such as Eusebius and Lactantius. According to the majority of scholars, Book III is the oldest of the Sibylline corpus and developed in the 2nd century BCE in Egypt. This thesis reconsiders the established consensus using old and new evidence alike. It focuses on the image of dominion of space in the Third Sibyl. On the one hand, space is looked at as the geographical image of the world as the Sibyl has access to, on the other, space is looked at as the political-theological image of succession of empires that rule the world consecutively until eventually they are superseded by the dominion of God. The dominion of God only play a minor role in Jewish pseudepigraphy. This could be related to the fact that the writings of the Diaspora were not immediately affected by the so-called Antiochene persecution and the Maccabean revolt unlike, for instance, the Book of Daniel. In the writings of the Diaspora the topic only occurs in the Third Sibyl and in the Wisdom of Solomon. It becomes particularly important in the New Testament. With this thesis I hope to provide an important contribution to the genesis of the image of the dominion of God in the New Testament. The eschatological age that the Sibyl prophecies for the establishment of the divine dominion on earth can be described using the term utopia.
