Abstract:
BACKGROUND: The biopsy of an oral mucosal lesion is a minor operation. Pain might be an unpredictable consequence of the oral mucosal biopsy. The aim of this study was to examine the incidence and severity of post-operative pain following the biopsy of oral mucosal lesions in patients attending in an oral medicine department of Kerman Dental School. METHODS: Visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to assess post-operative pain in 60 patients. Seven days after the biopsy of oral mucosa, patients were asked about overall pain experiences and analgesic usage over 3 days following the biopsy. RESULTS

Introduction: In practice, the diagnosis of certain oral lesions must be made by biopsy. A biopsy constitutes an essential diagnostic tool in application to patients with oral pathology. However oral biopsy is not routinely performed in general dental practice. The present study aimed to explore the attitudes of General Dental Practitioners (GDPs) towards oral biopsy for diagnosis of oral lesions in Vadodara city, Gujarat, India. The project was a step forward in a new area of translational medicine – liquid biopsy - and its diagnostic potential in oral squamous cell carcinoma. A panel of protein markers was identified from isolated salivary exosomes, which was able to discriminate between cancer-free healthy controls, at-risk patients with oral pre-malignant disorder, and early-stage oral squamous cell carcinoma patients. Saliva collection methods were also investigated, with the unstimulated ‘drool’ method being the most effective method for yielding exosomes of high quality and quantity.

Minimal change disease is characteristically responsive to high-dose corticosteroids. As this is the most common cause of nephrotic syndrome in children, and responses are usually prompt, response to 60 mg/m2/day of oral prednisolone (max. 80 mg) is often used as a diagnostic test. Adults respond more slowly and have a wider differential diagnosis, and often a high risk of side effects, so therapy is not recommended without confirmation by renal biopsy. Then first-line treatment is again prednisolone or prednisone, at 1 mg/kg/day (max. 60 mg). KDIGO and other treatment protocols recommend 6 we
