Groundwater in portions of Orange County exhibits a characteristic color attributed to the presence of naturally occurring organic matter. Dissolved organic carbon, largely in the form of humic and fulvic acids, is found at concentrations ranging from 0.3 mg/L to 14.4 mg/L. Organic rich strata is believed to be the source of dissolved organic carbon (DOC). Removal of DOC from groundwater is necessary to reduce water color and trihalomethane formation potential (THMFP). Adolescent dating violence occurs in high schools at an alarming rate. To educate adolescents about dating violence, some public high schools have incorporated prevention programs into their curriculum. These programs, which are predicated upon empiricism and behavioral theories, tend to produce limited results. Abstract:

Laboratory studies using ozone oxidation were conducted on samples of groundwater. The effects of ozonation on natural organic matter (NOM), color, and trihalomethane formation potential (THMFP) were examined. The fourteen groundwater samples had dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations between 0.9 and 14.4 mg/L and color levels between 13 and 210 pcu. Small doses of ozone appeared to result in an oxidative polymerization phenomenon whereby the apparent molecular weight (AMW) of the organics increased. <p> Aquifer mergence zones are erosional unconformities that hydraulically join interlaying aquifers. In the East Newport Mesa in Orange County, Southern California, aquifer mergence zones may provide a pathway for potentially impaired low-quality groundwater of the shallow, semi-perched aquifer to migrate into the underlying regional, potable, confined aquifers. An emissions inventory of VOCs, NO[subscript x], and CO[sub2] was conducted for three central Florida counties--Orange, Seminole, and Osceola (OSO)--for calendar year 2008. The inventory utilized three programs: MOBILE6, NONROAD2005, and EDMS (Emissions and Dispersion Modeling System) to model on-road mobile, non-road mobile, and airport emissions, respectively.
