We present a new algorithm for finding low-complexity neural networks with high generalization capability. The algorithm searches for a “flat” minimum of the error function. A flat minimum is a large connected region in weight space where the error remains approximately constant. An MDL-based, Bayesian argument suggests that flat minima correspond to “simple” networks and low expected overfitting. The argument is based on a Gibbs algorithm variant and a novel way of splitting generalization error into underfitting and overfitting error. Unlike many previous approaches, ours does not require ga

The ratio of analytic signal amplitudes of orders 0 and 1 of the magnetic anomaly from a thin dike was used to give the distance [Formula: see text] to the dike. Local minima of [Formula: see text] gave the depth to the dike, and the position of these minima gave its horizontal location. Because in the method we used just the magnetic field and its first-order derivatives, it was less sensitive to noise than were higher order derivative-based methods. The current research was carried out to estimate the concentration of heavy metals in water and aquatic macrophytes (Hydrilla verticillata, Salvinia minima and Eichornia crassipes) collected from the Polachira wetland of Kollam district, Kerala during the summer season of the year 2020. The water from the Polchira wetland was used for irrigating the agricultural land. Water and plant samples were collected from four different sites and were analyzed for heavy metals like Zn, Cu, Pb, Fe, Cd and Cr using AAS. The results indicated that the mean heavy metal contents in aquatic macrophytes were in

Abstract:
This work proposes a comprehensive review of the morphological features of the Neelipleona, with focus on chaetotaxy. The major contributions to the knowledge of Neelipleona are discussed and new data are presented, acquired from the redescription of Neelides folsomi, Acanthoneelidus pratensis and Neelus murinus. New elements of description are given for Neelus fimbriatus, Megalothorax granulosus, Megalothorax minimus, Megalothorax nigropunctatus, Megalothorax svalbardensis. Juvenile morphology is also taken in consideration with the description of the early instar of Neelides folsomi, Neelus

Abstract:
Ten cases of hypoplastic thumbs were treated by abductor digiti minimi opponensplasty in order to restore opposition of the thumb and reform the wasted thenar eminence. In eight of these ten cases operations were combined with multiple Z-plasty or rotation flap to correct the narrowing of the first web space. Adductor plasty using extensor indicis proprius was performed in six cases to restore the stability of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb and ligament reconstruction of the carpometacarpal joint in one hand. In all cases, the transferred abductor digiti minimi was strong enough to

Instrument approaches to non- instrument runways were made possible by the new approach classification of ICAO. As a conservative solution, the procedure design guidelines by the national civil aviation authorities apply circling minima to those approaches to non-instrument runways. However, the classification as non-instrument runway is very binary. Often a small item causes a reduction from instrument to a non-instrument runway and the circling minima become thus very conservative. Here, two cases are shown, Payerne, a non-instrument runway, and Ouessant with an instrument runway, both equip

In single variable situations, the traditional Newton’s approaches are the most popular. The new secant approach is based on the 2nd order Taylor expansion, which eliminates the necessity to compute the second derivative. Numerical tests have shown that the new secant approach is both numerical and effective when compared to the existing Newton method (N-method).

Abstract:
The classical Newtonian method is the most often used in single-variable scenarios. The second-order Taylor expansion, which the new secant technique is built on, does away with the need to compute the second derivative. Comparing the New Secant strategy to the current Newton method, numerical testing has demonstrated that it is both numerical and effective.

We describe an algorithm that allows to compute the Euclidean minimum (for the norm form) of any order of a totally definite quaternion field over a number field [Formula: see text] of degree strictly greater than [Formula: see text]. Our approach is a generalization of the previous work dealing with number fields. The algorithm was practically implemented when [Formula: see text] has degree [Formula: see text].

Abstract:
Identifying sets of metastable conformations is a major research topic in RNA energy landscape analysis, and recently several methods have been proposed for finding local minima in landscapes spawned by RNA secondary structures. An important and time-critical component of such methods is steepest, or gradient, descent in attraction basins of local minima. We analyse the speed-up achievable by randomised descent in attraction basins in the context of large sample sets where the size has an order of magnitude in the region of ~106. While the gain for each individual sample might be marginal, the
