Abstract:
The following paper details some of the most important reactions the State of Oregon had to the Great Depression during the 1930s.The majority of the work available today on the Great Depression deals with what the federal government did to help the states, but seldom is there information on what the states did themselves. Professor Price Fishback, of the University of Arizona, has provided his honors students with an opportunity to work on a project that has never been done before. With the data we now have, we are able to talk about what the states did during the Great Depression and back it

Oregon is now one of only eighteen states that regulate alcohol as a monopoly. The Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) imposes and enforces rules regulating the sale and distribution of alcohol within the state. The regulations were designed to restrict the availability of alcohols. Beer and wine avoided many restrictions imposed on liquor reflecting an incentive to alter consumption rates in favor of beer and wine over liquor. Many of the reasons to favor beer and wine over liquor were based on scientific claims or beliefs that we now know to be untrue. Updating our regulatory environment

Peterson, Eric B. "Analysis and prediction of patterns in lichen communities over the western Oregon landscape." Thesis, 2000. http://hdl.handle.net/1957/32593.

Abstract:
The diverse lichen flora of the Pacific Northwest is being impacted by population growth and by forest management practices. Accumulating information about our lichen flora will improve our conservation strategies. This dissertation first collects information to improve our understanding of how lichen communities vary among forests of differing structure, and across the western Oregon landscape. It then proposes a method to predict species occurrence in unsampled sites by utilizing the information on forest characters and environmental gradients at sampled sites. Macrolichen communities sample

Vance, Amanda J. "Impacts of crop level and vine vigor on vine balance and fruit composition in Oregon Pinot noir." Thesis, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/1957/30290.

Abstract:
Vineyard management strategies, including vineyard floor management and crop level management, can be used to influence vine vigor and fruit composition. Two studies were conducted to evaluate the impact of these practices on Pinot Noir in Oregon's Willamette Valley. Managing crop levels is common in cool climate vineyard production though it is a costly practice. With economic pressures, the premium winegrape industry is questioning whether they can reduce production costs and increase yields without compromising quality. A crop thinning trial was conducted in 2010 and 2011 to address these c

Abstract:
This thesis is a preliminary archaeological predictive model and project-planning tool created for the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) as part of a statewide planning effort to enhance the agency's ability to assess the potential impacts of highway projects on archaeological resources. This model addresses the archaeological sensitivity of the US 30 highway corridor from Portland, Oregon to Astoria, Oregon. The highway corridor is divided into 7 separate segments for management purposes and each segment is given a low, medium, or high probability rating for its potential to yield ar

Higgs, Kathryn N. "Assessing the phosphorus and potassium balances in Oregon's dairies." Thesis, 2003. http://hdl.handle.net/1957/30501.

Abstract:
A field study was conducted to assess phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) concentrations of both lactating and dry cow diets on Oregon's dairies. Thirty-seven dairy farms, located in western Oregon, were grouped according to geographic region, valley (V) or coast (C), and herd size, small (S) or large (L). Farms were visited on three separate occasions. During each visit, lactating and dry cow diets were recorded and corresponding feed ingredients were collected and analyzed for P and K. For each diet recorded, fecal and urine samples were collected and analyzed for P and K. When available, milk
