Abstract:
The crude extract of Alnus japonica bark exhibited a strong effect on the growth of Trypanosoma brucei. Subsequent chromatographic separation resulted in the isolation of two novel diarylheptanoids, known as alnuside C (2) and alnuside D (3), and three known compounds, 1-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-7-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-heptan-3(R)-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (1), oregonin (4) and hirsutanone (5). The structures of the isolates were elucidated based on the use of extensive spectroscopic and chemical methods. The genetic structure and phylogeography of 88 rosethorn rockfish (Sebastes helvomaculatus) from five localities (California, Oregon, British Columbia, and two in the Gulf of Alaska) were analyzed using DNA sequences from the mitochondrial control region. High levels of genetic diversity (h > 85%) and significant population genetic structure (FST = 0.13, P < 0.001; AMOVA ΦST = 0.15, P << 0.001) were found. A significant genetic break was detected (ΦCT = 0.22, P << 0.001) coinciding with the transition zone between the Oregonian and Aleutian zoogeographic provinces and consist

Based on field observations, interviews and analysis of public documents, the essay finds a vital, though marginalised, religious dimension to the debate. Yet, moral vocabularie

This article examines the development of competing forms of fiscal citizenship in Oregon tax-related ballot initiative campaigns between 1970 and 2010. Antitax advocates constructed a “taxpayer identity politics” that positioned a privatized “taxpayer” against representatives of the state, recipients of public services, and public sector unions. In response, a progressive coalition produced an alternative citizen—the “Oregonian,” a socially responsible taxpayer/citizen who supports and defends public services and values a “common good.” “Incipient commoning” emerges as support for “the common

Growing demand for appropriate training opportunities for Oregon’s increasingly scarce agricultural workers continues to outpace extension’s available time and resources. New, more efficient, and innovative ways of reaching this audience must be explored to better fill the need and demand. Hybrid teaching, which refers to course delivery through a blend of traditional, face-to-face teaching, along with online instruction outside of the classroom, is being implemented in some English-language extension programs. A hybrid pesticide training course was designed and delivered in Spanish over the c
