The results of studies on chemical transformations of organic and organosilicon isocyanates in their interaction with hydrazine derivatives have been summarized in this review. It is shown that hydrazine and its derivatives including organosilicon compounds reacting with organic isocyanates form corresponding semicarbazides readily enough. The reaction conditions that effect the composition, structure and yield of the resulting target products are presented. Nanocellulose has been subjected to a wide range of chemical modifications towards increasing its potential in certain fields of interest. These modifications either modulated the chemistry of the nanocellulose itself or introduced certain functional groups onto its surface, which varied from simple molecules to polymers. Among many, aliphatic and aromatic mono- and di-isocyanates are a group of chemicals that have been used for a century to modify cellulose. Despite only being used recently with nanocellulose, they have shown great potential as surface modifiers and chemical linkers to graft

Carbon–nitrogen bond formation is one of the most important reactions in organic chemistry. Various synthetic strategies for the generation of C–N bonds are described in the literature. For example, primary amines can be easily synthesized by the thermal decomposition of an acyl azide to an isocyanate, i.e. the Curtis rearrangement, followed by hydrolysis; the Curtius rearrangement has been used extensively. Furthermore, the advantage of the Curtius rearrangement is the isolation of acyl azides as well as the corresponding isocyanates. The isocyanates can be converted into various nitrogen-con

Although this process was well known as the Lassen rearrangement, it was often difficult to isolate the resultant isocyanates when common dehydrating agents were used. Among numerous such reagents, only phosgene, thionyl chloride, etc. allowed isolation of isocyanates from the reaction mixture. However, I still thought that it would be possible to isolate them by reaction with some of the dehydration agents noted in Chapter 2, e.g. alkoxyacetylene or ketene acetal as illustrated in eqns (3.1) and (3.2), and

Abstract:
Polyurethane, as a versatile polymer prepared by the polyaddition of isocyanates and hydroxyl group containing compounds, is widely used in the automotive industry and with an upcoming change of European legislation becomes recycling increasingly important as an alternative to landfilling or incineration. Glycolysis is one of the chemical degradation processes used to transform polyurethane waste using simple glycols as the degradation agents into a raw material. Single phase glycolysis was used to produce recycled polyol from polyurethane semi-rigid foam dedicated for headliner production. Th

Abstract:
Recently we reported the incorporation of a novel difunctional nonlinear optical (NLO) molecule, 3-amino-5-[4′-(N-ethyl-N-2″-hydroxyethyl)aminobenzylidene]-rhodanine (I), into a poled, cross-linked polymer by the stepwise reaction of different functionalities with a trifunctional comonomer.1 The difference in reactivity between the two functional groups on the molecule allows a stepwise reaction; first, oligomers are formed which are processed into optical quality films, and second, reaction conditions are changed while applying the electric field to induce reaction of the second functionality

Abstract:
It is common practice to incorporate low molecular weight molecules, known as chain extenders, to enhance the performance of polyurethane (PU) material. They usually increase the phase separation between the soft and hard domains, which has a significant impact on the density of hydrogen bonds. Aminoalcohols, molecules with both hydroxyl and amine functional groups, are important building blocks in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals but are also widely used in cosmetics or paints and coatings. Easily derived from abundant natural sources, such as amino acids, aminoalcohols align with the need fo
