Resins containing dibenzo-18-crown-6 (phiDB18C6) as anchor groups have been prepared according to the procedure suggested by Blasius and the total capacity, CT, determined by micro analysis. The effective capacity, CE, of phiDB18C6 towards the alkali-metal salts using water as reaction media was obtained from saturation experiments. The electrolyte concentration dependence of the distribution ratio of 1:1 electrolytes between phiDB18C6 and water at 298K was studied and the results used to determine the concentration range at which a maximum separation factor between two ions could be achieved.

A invertase comercial (Bioinvert®) foi imobilizada por adsorção em resinas aniônicas do tipo Dowex® [1x8:50-400, 1x4:50-400 e 1x2:100-400, todos copolímeros estireno-divinilbenzênicos, porém de granulometria (50-400 mesh) e quantidades de ligações cruzadas diferentes (2-8%)] em meio aquoso. Nesse trabalho utilizou-se o reator anaeróbio horizontal de leito fixo (RAHLF) para produção de ácidos graxos voláteis (AGVs). O reator, com volume total de 2,38 litros, foi preenchido com partículas de argila expandida e alimentado com substrato sintético à base de glicose. A number of novel chloride and acetato complexes, of the type M(PGE-EMI)4X2 where M = Mn, Co, Ni, Cu and Zn and X = Cl and CH3COO-, was successfully prepared and characterised using FTIR, NMR and UV/Vis spectroscopic analysis. The majority of the complexes precipitated as brittle glasses, hence no crystallographic analysis could be carried out to evaluate the exact structure.
