Full textAlthough the concept of organizational learning refers to the simple idea that an organization learns to organise itself in order to improve future performance, it gives rise to multiple interpretations. One of them considers that performance is improved through adaptation to the environment. Learning then involves the experiment of new behaviours as a response to environmental changes. In economics, this view may be applied to firms, which is the aim of this thesis. Experiments of new behaviours may then refer to production strategies. A preliminary question arises, how firms may know the strategies to experiment ? this thesis studies two alternative processes. Firms may creatr these strategies, there is then innovation, they may also copy the innovations of others firms. We show in both contexts that organizational learning leads firms to invest unknown sectors. Sinces the sectorial structure of the economy may change, it has implications on the labour market, particularly if each sector requires different qualifications of workers. Thus, this thesis points out the existence of a structural unemployement linked to the bad adaptation of workers to the economic sector structure change resulting from the organizational learning of firms

Full textIn a context of reinforcement of the project-based organizations, the question of the competence management becomes today a key stake as well for the companies as for research in management science. It is a question for the firms of jointly managing the competence development and the development of innovating products and services. If the literature recognizes the need for the articulation between competence management and project-based organization, nevertheless contributions are limited in the specification of its reality. Consequently, the objective of this research is to understand how the companies manage indeed this articulation. Our research rests on a qualitative approach, centred on a multiple case study, led within four project-based firms and evolving in different branches of industry (IBM, HEWLETT-PACKARD, ARKOPHARMA and TEMEX). The analysis of our four cases, confronted with the existing literature, proposes three principal results. First of all, functional and integrative competences are essential competences on which the project-based firms must pay a particular attention, as regards management and development. Then, it appears that the articulation between competence management and project-based organization structure itself around three key dimensions: knowledge management, human resource management and strategy. Lastly, we propose a typology of the actors implied in the joint management of competences and projects in three categories: "strategists", "organizers" and "recipients". To cut the matter short, the thesis that we defend is that the joint management of competences and projects obliges to leave the reference framework of projects, and thus to advocate a global approach, on the level of the firm

Full textThis dissertation explores empirically the link between the network structure of inter-industry markets and the force of propagation of shocks affecting modern economies. Recent theoretical propositions suggest that where intermediate inputs markets are led by few very influential suppliers the propagation of shocks is strong, and the aggregate economy becomes sensitive to industryspecific shocks. The first objective of this dissertation is to test empirically these propositions. More importantly, this thesis goes beyond these observations by highlighting that current concepts linking the network structure of economies to the propagation of shocks within the economies may be applied to study the propagation of shocks across countries. This dissertation introduces a new way of studying a well-known international diffusion mechanism: the global inter-industry value chains. Discussion is articulated throughout three questions : Based on their network structure, are modern economies prone to important spillovers ? If so, may the network structure of economies predict the actual level of comovement of industrial activity ? Since globalization led to international fragmentation of production, may the network structure of international inter-industry value chains foster cross-country spillovers ? Empirical results give positive answers to these questions, and provide elements to continue exploring this emerging literature of the international macroeconomics

Full textThis thesis analyses the practices built from the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the Sustainable Development (SD) and the way they transform the French hospitality industry. We propose an intermediate concept of SD/CSR efforts to qualify all these speeches and practices. This thesis first characterizes these efforts to show that they are the result of successful and powerful actors strategies in the industry, the luxe hotels and hotel which belong to chain. Embodying new differentiation strategies, it makes this two hotel type stronger and participates to the process of sectorization by strengthens the sectorial processus. The insertion of SD/CSR efforts in luxury hotels is made by outsourcing, whereas the hotels which belong to chains integrate it into their process of production. They standardize SD/CSR efforts through an industrial model of production. We prove that the way these hotels integrate the SD/CSR participates of the degradation of the wage labor nexus, particularly regarding the working conditions and the forms of mobilization of the employees. We also demonstrate that such as they are built, the SD/CSR efforts as instruments in the service of the corporate strategy, strengthen the technical division and gendered of labor, participate in the intensification labor, and they give to mobilization speeches a revival with the idea or nature protection
