Based on a comprehensive literature review the most relevant works dealing with the study and measurement of brand personality of nonprofit organizations (NPOs) were identified. Taking as reference the work done by Venable et al. (2005) for measuring brand personality for nonprofit organizations in the American context, there has been adapting to the Peruvian context, in order to provide a useful tool for measuring brand personality NPOs working in Peru. A qualitative methodology was used in the first phase of the investigation, in-depth interviews and focus groups were conducted in order to determine the dimensions and characteristics or adjectives of human personality that are attributed to the NPO by individuals. Opinions were collected during in-depth interviews of professionals in the communications department of the NPO in Peru and in the focus groups the opinions of university students were collected. From this qualitative analysis, six dimensions and sixty adjectives of brand personality of nonprofits organizations were obtained in the Peruvian context. In a second phase, quantitative methodology was used in order to validate the dimensions and adjectives found in the qualitative phase and to verify the validity of the hypotheses. The quantitative phase was developed by selecting a sample from the universe consists of university students, professors, university staff and professionals from one of the most important universities of Peru. The results of the survey allowed contrasting successfully each of the hypotheses and testing the reliability of the six dimensions and adjectives of the brand personality of the NPO in the Peruvian context. This doctoral thesis offers nonprofits organizations a tool that allows them to measure and analyze the dimensions and major characteristics or adjectives of brand personality of the NPOs, with the aim of strengthening their brands and market position, as NPOs are in constant competition with other nonprofits for donors (money), contributors (services) and volunteers (time).
