Abstract:
Nowadays, the idea of firms’ atomization is rejected and companies are perceived as entities embedded in inter-organizational relationships and their configurations, including dyads and networks. The relational view in strategic management thus prompts research on a firm’s relational strategy. This paper taps this gap considering links between strategic choices and attributes of a company’s inter-organizational relationships, as well as the outcomes achieved by collaboration with different groups of stakeholders. We test the model based on research carried out on a representative sample of 400 enterprises operating in Poland and on international markets. The results of structural equation modeling show that 1) the outcomes of collaboration reflect market benefits and are dependent on the durability of the inter-organizational relationships and the heterogeneity of the supply chain relationships, 2) durability as an attribute of the relational strategy depends on the choice of how to create and appropriate value, and 3) in turn, the attribute of heterogeneity of the relational strategy depends on what type of partners are selected. Thereby, we deliver managerial implications on how to create a relational strategy to achieve a relational rent and better a company’s market position.

Abstract:
The “elitist approach” to democratization contends that “democratic regimes that last have seldom, if ever, been instituted by mass popular actors” (Huntington 1984:212). This article subjects this observation to empirical scrutiny using statistical analyses of new democracies over the past half-century and a case study. Contrary to the elitist approach, I argue that new democracies growing out of mass mobilization are more likely to survive than are new democracies that were born amid quiescence. Survival analysis of 112 young democracies in 80 different countries based on original data shows that the longer the mobilization, the more likely the ensuing democracy is to survive. I use a case study of South Africa to investigate the mechanisms. I argue that sustained unarmed uprisings have generated the longest-lasting new democracies—largely because they are forced to develop an organizational structure, which provides a leadership cadre for the new regime, forges links between the government and society, and strengthens checks on the power of the post-transition government.

Abstract:
Open Innovation (OI) research has covered various organizational forms in dimensions of durability (permanent versus temporary organizing) and organizational scope (intra- or inter-organizational). Inter-organizational forms - both temporary and permanent – are regarded mainly as modes of OI. However, these organizational forms also act as initiators of OI activities to extend knowledge transfer across the inter-organizational consortium borders, which is hardly researched. To address this gap, the research presented in this article develops an OI process for inter-organizational projects (IOP) as initiators of OI. The initial model is developed by action research with an IOP of museums and educational institutions implementing a series of hackathons. The model’s applicability is then evaluated for other IOPs by a survey, indicating the model’s suitability for practitioners. Findings point to the importance of collaborative activities for aligning the OI initiative with both individual partners’ and common project goals, while outbound activities are regarded least important despite the time-limitation of the project. The research is limited by its focus on the specific IOP environment of EU-funded projects and the small scope of the survey.

Abstract:
During the two recent decades, researchers of organizational behavior have paid special attention to extra-social behavior in organizations, and there has been specific focus on employees' affairs which are developed beyond formal job demands. Globalization era has created increased inter-individual mutual dependencies among organizations and groups. Thus, it has made more need for extra-social cooperation and interaction inside and outside the organizations. Therefore, organizational citizenship behavior plays a role in increasing the effectiveness and durability of the organization. The main purpose of this survey is to study the manner of impact of self-concept, and organizational identity on organizational citizenship behavior of employees of Social Security Corporation in Isfahan province and also to examine the existence of the balancing role of self-concept variable in the relationship between organizational identity and organizational citizenship behavior. This survey was conducted using descriptive-metrical method. Obtained results of this survey reveal that organizational citizenship behavior is affected by organizational identity, and self-concept; and each variable of organizational identity has positive correlation with organizational citizenship behavior. It means that by strengthening and improving the above variables it is possible to enhance organizational citizenship behavior. Also, results demonstrate that self-concept balances the relationship between organizational identity and organizational citizenship behavior.

This paper focuses on the process of institutionalization of technical and organizational knowledge in the work setting. Drawing on a rich qualitative study, we apply an inscription—delegation model to the analysis of knowledge dynamics in a greenfield automotive plant. In particular, we depict knowledge institutionalization as a recursive process that involves the progressive writing, enactment and reproduction of a generative template or code within a stable medium. We first reconstruct the chain of transformations by which agency and knowledge are embedded into a variety of technical and organizational artifacts, leading to the creation of a cognitive and institutional order. We then focus on the frictions and tensions that can emerge in the transformations, and we discuss problems of vulnerability and durability that may arise in the maintenance and reproduction of such order.

Abstract:
The leading aim of this article is an investigation of the role of culture in the organization. Organizational culture represents values, beliefs, hypotheses, fables, norms, and goals, which are admitted in the organization vastly. The organizational culture is the means which facilitates our behavior and actions with organizational tasks. The findings of this study reveal that one of the most influential factors in an organization’s situation is organizational culture. In the current complicated and revolutionary world, the durability of organizations is related to various factors; one of the most important factors is having a fortified organizational culture. The organizational culture is the subordinate outcome of social culture that, by its turn, impacts on values, moralities, attitudes, assumptions, and expectations of any individuals and can be exposed in their behaviors. The organizational culture has become more significant and remarkable because of its high and noticeable effects in organizations. Realizing the organizational culture is one of the causes that impact the real actions of people and their perceptions regarding that. The organizational culture represents the mode of our interpretation of our surrounding incidents. The research method of this study is library-based, and the information and points were collected from books and journals.

Abstract:
Organization development has been, and arguably still is, the major approach to organizational change across the Western world, and increasingly globally. Despite this, there appears to be a great deal of confusion as to its origins, nature, purpose and durability. This article reviews the ‘long’ history of organization development from its origins in the work of Kurt Lewin in the late 1930s to its current state and future prospects. It chronicles and analyses the major stages, disjunctures and controversies in its history and allows these to be seen in a wider context. The article closes by arguing that, although organization development remains the dominant approach to organizational change, there are significant issues that it must address if it is to achieve the ambitious and progressive social and organizational aims of its founders.

Abstract:
With the increased requirement for open data and data reuse in the sciences the call for long-term data storage becomes stronger. However, long-term data storage is insufficiently theorized and often considered as simply short-term data that are stored longer. Interviews with scientists at a German university show that data are not in themselves durable; they are made durable. While Science & Technology Studies data research has emphasized the relational character of data, always embedded in local contexts and infrastructures, we propose to add the temporal dimension of data durability to this understanding. We replace notions of long-term and short-term stored data with notions of publication data and project data, because the latter terms point to the practices through which data durability is made in a variety of ways, contingent on the kind of research phases in which the data are embedded, and on their infrastructures and practices. With the notion of data durability devices we inquire into technologies and tools, techniques and skills as well as organizational arrangements, cultural norms and relations that contribute to making data durable. We define scientific data as durable as long as they can operate in a socio-technical apparatus and uphold their capacity to make claims about the world. The scientists’ data practices revealed what we term media data durability devices and scientific data durability devices. The former were media materiality, the care for this materiality, and the compatibility between data and the data apparatus, which all contributed to shaping data durability. Scientific data durability devices, on the other hand included concealment and competition, through which data durability was prolonged, but also distributed unevenly among researchers. With these proposed concepts we hope to initiate discussions on the making of long-term data storage, just as we believe the concepts to be helpful for making realistic and relevant decisions about what data to store and for how long.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to determine the interpretation of the term “Cluster of urban residential development” used in the organization of reoriented urban enclaves, taking into account the organizational and technological model of the reliability of formation. In the implementation of such plans, a set of joint tasks of the organizational and technological structure is determined and a number of parameters are taken into account, (comfortable living, with meaningfully used free space; a combination of residential buildings with social, educational, cultural, household and entertainment facilities, etc.), and also - the basic principles of the formation of the reliability of the organizational and technological model of the cluster of urban residential development. The underlying scientific theory is that by using the methods of organizational and technological modeling and system engineering, the indicators of the total durability of construction design can be increased. As a result of the study, the characteristic properties of a cluster of urban residential development were established to be used in an integrated model.

Abstract:
One of the most important criteria for ensuring the safe operation of the facility and increasing its durability is its reliability. Ensuring the safe operation of pipelines is in many ways a problem of increasing their reliability and durability and seems to be a complex task, which includes solving technical and technological, as well as economic and organizational aspects. To date, emergencies related to the rupture and damage to steel pipelines because of their operational wear and exposure to external factors are still the most frequent cause of accidents in the oil field. Despite the fact that numerous studies are devoted to this problem, at present it has not yet been completely resolved, and many questions still remain open. In this article, we are considering the prospects of using fiberglass and polymer-metal pipes in the oil and gas industry as an alternative to steel pipes.

Abstract:
Increased levels of economic openness in the industrial democracies have heightened the potential for intra-party and intra-coalition policy conflicts, hurting the ability of parties to win and retain office. We argue that politicians can use monetary commitments to help manage these conflicts and improve cabinet durability. To determine the political value of these commitments, we test the effect of fixed exchange rates and central bank independence on cabinet durability using a set of 193 cabinets in sixteen parliamentary democracies across the period 1972–98. The results indicate that monetary commitments are associated with higher cabinet durability, particularly for coalition governments. We then use the results of our statistical models to generate expected cabinet durability under alternative institutional configurations. By comparing these expected values, we show that actual monetary reforms in the industrial democracies have helped (or at least not hurt) the ability of political parties to remain in office.

Abstract:
Organizational performance is the ultimate measure of the success of any local contractor. It involves the analysis of a firm’s performance measured against its goals and objectives. Whilst it is generally agreed that the organizational performance of local contractors is insufficient, such a notion is arbitrary and most of the time based on anecdotal evidence. The purpose of this research was therefore to establish the level of organizational performance of local contractors here in Kenya. A survey research design was adopted. A questionnaire with the evaluation criteria of organizational performance was used to collect data. The sampling frame included all NCA1, NCA2 and NCA3 contractors. In order to avoid bias in the evaluation process, consultants were included in the survey to obtain an external perspective. The level of organizational performance in local contractors was established at three levels. First, 50 measurable indicators were used. The highest performing indicator was found to be the durability of projects executed by local contractors (mean=7.52). The lowest indicator was established to be the net profit margin of contractors (mean=5.34). The second level involved establishing the level of organizational performance based on the 10 dimensions identified from the literature review. This was achieved by calculating the means of the respective indicators. The best performing dimensions of organizational performance were found to be quality of products (mean=7.308) and client satisfaction (mean=6.923). The least performing dimensions were found to be profitability (mean=5.406) and employee satisfaction (mean=5.683). The final level involved establishing the overall organizational performance of local contractors. This was achieved by calculating the mean of the ten dimensions. The organizational performance of local contractors was established to have a percentage score of 63.74%. This was found to be moderately high meaning there was still plenty of room for improvement.

Abstract:
We explore the sources of durability of party-based authoritarian regimes in the face of crisis. Recent scholarship on authoritarianism suggests that ruling parties enhance elite cohesion—and consequently, regime durability—by providing institutionalized access the spoils of power. We argue, by contrast, that while elite access to power and spoils may ensure elite cooperation during normal times, it often fails to do so during crises. Instead, the identities, norms, and organizational structures forged during periods of sustained, violent, and ideologically-driven conflict are a critical source of cohesion—and durability—in party-based authoritarian regimes. Origins in violent conflict raise the cost of defection and provide leaders with additional (non-material) resources that can be critical to maintaining unity and discipline, even when a crisis threatens the party's hold on power. Hence, where ruling parties combine mechanisms of patronage distribution with the strong identities, solidarity ties, and discipline generated by violent origins, regimes should be most durable. We apply this argument to four party-based competitive authoritarian regimes in post-Cold War Africa: Kenya, Mozambique, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. In each of these cases, an established single- or dominant-party regime faced heightened international pressure, economic crisis, and a strong opposition challenge after 1990. Yet whereas ruling parties in Kenya and Zambia were organized almost exclusively around patronage, those in Mozambique and Zimbabwe were liberation parties that came to power via violent struggle. This difference is critical to explaining diverging post-Cold War regime outcomes: whereas ruling parties in Zambia and Kenya imploded and eventually lost power in these face of crises, those in Mozambique and Zimbabwe remained intact and regimes survived.

The building industry's organization has been relatively invariant down through history due to housing's unique characteristics: durability, fixity in location, complex co-ordination of various trades on site and financing its great costs. That organizational form has allowed speculative development to flourish periodically during large increases in urban population, despite considerable risk. The same building and speculative processes occurred in ancient Rome and cities in England and the US at greatly different periods of time but those histories do not acknowledge the similarities of development processes that each reports. A separate ‘housing literature’ that steps back from particulars possibly explains why these accounts are so alike.

Abstract:
Background. Human resources are one of the most critical organizational resources, the reinforcement and maintenance of whom require much energy in health organizations, particularly in long-term crises. Many methods have been suggested in this regard; however, there is a need for their integration and clarification. Methods. We systematically searched the international databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, from 2003 to April 2021by using some relevant keywords. The quality of the included studies was assessed using the AMSTAR checklist. Results. The search resulted in 1613 papers, among which there were 16 systematic reviews. The studies addressed a wide range of problems and solutions. Twelve items and four items were classified with moderate quality (AMSTER score 5–8) and high quality (AMSTER score 9–11), respectively. Half of the studies (n = 8) dealt with mental and psychological problems resulting from crises as the most important factor in the decline of health system staff’s durability in organizations. They also provided different solutions such as mental health counselling during and after the crisis, flexible work schedule, promoted trust in the organization, support of staff’s family, and enhanced awareness to support employees. And the other articles addressed managerial problems as the most critical factor in the decline of health system staff’s durability in organizations and proposed solutions such as suitable planning before, during, and after the crisis and the use of material and spiritual incentives to increase the employees’ motivation and organizational resilience to maintain the staff. Conclusion. In the present review study, three dimensions (namely, resilience, motivation-hygiene measures, and development of manager’s soft skills) are considered as the main factors reinforcing and maintaining human resources in the health systems in long-term crises and disasters.

Abstract:
In the aftermath of war, what determines whether peace lasts or fighting resumes, and what can be done to foster durable peace? Drawing on theories of cooperation, I argue that belligerents can overcome the obstacles to peace by implementing measures that alter incentives, reduce uncertainty about intentions, and manage accidents. A counterargument suggests that agreements are epiphenomenal, merely reflecting the underlying probability of war resumption. I test hypotheses about the durability of peace using hazard analysis. Controlling for factors (including the decisiveness of victory, the cost of war, relative capabilities, and others) that affect the baseline prospects for peace, I find that stronger agreements enhance the durability of peace. In particular, measures such as the creation of demilitarized zones, explicit third-party guarantees, peacekeeping, and joint commissions for dispute resolution affect the duration of peace. Agreements are not merely scraps of paper; rather, their content matters in the construction of peace that lasts.

Abstract:
Longitudinal studies with a mix of binary outcomes and continuous variables are common in organizational research. Selecting the dependent variable is often difficult due to conflicting theories and contradictory empirical studies. In addition, organizational researchers are confronted with methodological challenges posed by latent variables relating to observed binary outcomes and within-subject correlation. We draw on Dueker’s qualitative vector autoregression (QVAR) and Lunn, Osorio, and Whittaker’s multivariate probit model to develop a solution to these problems in the form of a qualitative short panel vector autoregression (QSP-VAR). The QSP-VAR combines binary and continuous variables into a single vector of dependent variables, making every variable endogenous a priori. The QSP-VAR identifies causal order, reveals within-subject correlation, and accounts for latent variables. Using a Bayesian approach, the QSP-VAR provides reliable inference for short time dimension longitudinal research. This is demonstrated through analysis of the durability of elite corporate agents, social networks, and firm performance in France. We provide our OpenBUGS code to enable implementation of the QSP-VAR by other researchers.

Improving the reliability and service life of machines, components, units is an important factor in reducing the cost of restoration, downtime of equipment in repair, reducing the number of spare parts. The introduction of the latest technologies of agricultural production, as well as constant modern improvement, the complexity of agricultural machinery is a natural result of its development. Parts restoration technologies are among the most resource-saving, because compared to the manufacture of new parts costs are reduced by up to 70%. The main source of resource savings is the cost of materials. At longtime use of machines wear of details is followed by decrease in operational indicators, causes deterioration of quality of products. The tractor PTO shaft is subjected to significant static and dynamic loads. The high wear rate is due to constant friction with the grafting disc, gear, inner bearing rings. The production of a new power take-off shaft requires significant costs, so the development of new technological processes of repair and restoration is relevant. It is rational at restoration of the previous sizes and return of a detail of normal mechanical properties. The remanufactured part is consuming its life, like a new part, and may exceed the service life of the new part. With the increase in the equipment of agricultural production with more advanced equipment, the conduct of complex mechanization and increasing the efficiency of the use of equipment, repair production is developing and changing. The development of the field of restoration of worn parts is based on close cooperation of repair production with branch and basic science, and achievement of scientific and technical progress. A promising direction of restoration technology in the organizational plan is the deepening of the method of group restoration technology - the creation of a unified group equipment for the restoration of surfaces. It is established that the majority of details of the restored cars are rejected at the expense of insignificant wear of working surfaces, making no more than 1% of initial weight of details. Experiments and practice show that the repair of agricultural machinery is technically impossible to avoid. Most worn parts have a high residual value: their restoration consumes 20-30 times less metal and materials than the manufacture of new ones, which is economically feasible. Problems are considered: the choice of technological process of restoration, the choice of technological equipment, tools.

Abstract:
Academic and practitioner interest in how market-based organizations can drive positive social change (PSC) is steadily growing. This paper helps to recast how organizations relate to society. It integrates research on projects stimulating PSC—the transformational processes to advance societal well-being—that is fragmented across different streams of research in management and related disciplines. Focusing on the mechanisms at play in how organizations and their projects affect change in targets outside of organizational boundaries, we (1) clarify the nature of PSC as a process, (2) develop an integrative framework that specifies two distinct PSC strategies, (3) take stock of and offer a categorization scheme for change mechanisms and enabling organizational practices, and (4) outline opportunities for future research. Our conceptual framework differentiates between surface- and deep-level PSC strategies understood as distinct combinations of change mechanisms and enabling organizational practices. These strategies differ in the nature and speed of transformation experienced by the targets of change projects and the resulting quality (pervasiveness and durability), timing, and reach of social impact. Our findings provide a solid base for integrating and advancing knowledge across the largely disparate streams of management research on corporate social responsibility, social entrepreneurship, and base of the pyramid and open up important new avenues for future research on organizing for PSC and on unpacking PSC processes.

Abstract:
Summary The article attempts to determine the benefits that are the basis for permanent business cooperation with non-governmental organizations (NGOs). These benefits are presented on the basis of literature, analyzed case studies and from the point of view of business representatives and non-governmental organizations who shared their practical experience in this field with the authors of the article. On the one hand, enterprises and NGOs often operate in both geographic and market proximity in a microeconomic environment. Therefore, they can direct their activities to similar recipients of the micro environment. They deal with the same local community and its problems as well as with decisions of local self-governments. Both types of organizations are also affected by similar macroeconomic conditions supporting or limiting intersectoral cooperation. On the other hand, the discussed organizations differ in terms of goals and approaches to managing an organization. Enteprises engage in social issues in order to be able to achieve business goals (e.g. image building, establishing better relations with the social environment, acquiring new markets). In order to survive and achieve social goals, NGOs must acquire competences specific to enterprises (e.g. management, organizational and communication skills, etc.). There is therefore space for establishing cooperation between enterprises and NGOs because these organizations can offer each other the desired benefits through exchange, increasing their competitive position (enterprises) and the possibility of achieving statutory goals (NGOs).

Abstract:
Advanced surface engineering technologies are the basis of the intense technological development in the world over the past several decades. The rapid development of surface engineering resulted in the appearance of many new top layer solutions, such as multi-layer coatings, nanostructured coatings, and hybrid layers, which prove to be very effective in their applications. The production of layers and coatings with complex microstructure and application requirements (related to coated materials, the geometry of the engineered elements, economic viability) create a need for advanced technological and organizational solutions. This article presents a technology of manufacturing a hybrid layer: “nitrided layer + (Cr/CrN) multilayer,” intended to increase the durability of hot forging dies. Based on this example, those surface engineering fields are presented where simultaneous intensive development is necessary to ensure an efficient process of transferring innovative surface engineering solutions to the industry.

Abstract:
This paper develops a dynamic theory of the social and political foundations of governance quality. In the model, groups of citizens have different expected needs for a public service, and citizens choose whether to demand service when the need arises. Politicians representing these groups can determine policy benefits and delegate to bureaucrats the ability to invest in long-run service quality. The main feature of the theory is its foundation for citizen–government interactions, which draws from well-known queueing models of organizational service provision. The model provides a framework for characterizing the effectiveness and durability of government programs. A main implication is that politicized bureaucracies improve program survivability and increase the frequency of investment, while insulated bureaucracies increase the intensity of investment; overall service quality trades off between these two factors. Other results examine the implications of cross-group inequality, electoral conditions, and decentralization.

Abstract:
This article resuscitates the idea of structural power in world politics by linking it to modern complex network science, presents a theoretical framework for understanding how global structures develop and change, and empirically analyzes the prominence of leading states within global finance, trade, security, and knowledge networks. It argues that the “fitness plus preferential attachment” (FPA) model of complex network evolution provides a logical explanation for the durability of American influence even as some of its advantages in country-level capabilities has eroded, and it introduces a network methodology that is capable of empirically analyzing the organizational complexity that exists within and across domains in world politics. It argues that the rise of China and other emerging powers has been overstated in some ways, but that a redistribution of structural prominence is taking place, in some domains, as emerging markets increase their transnational connections; this has mostly come at the relative expense of Europe, however, rather than the United States.

Abstract:
On urban routes, the decrease in the level of durability of the minibus units is caused primarily by frequent turns, stops and subsequent acceleration. The instructions of manufacturers for the maintenance of minibuses do not take into account the peculiarities of the transverse profiles of routes, while the costs of passenger enterprises on different routes may differ. The purpose of this work is to reduce the cost of operating rolling stock by increasing the durability of steering mechanisms of minibuses by developing organizational and technological solutions for maintenance. The properties of working oils of minibus aggregates vary markedly depending on the time and operating conditions. Oxidation products and road dust accumulate in them, as a result, their physico-chemical parameters change. In particular, the viscosity, water content and abrasive particles change in one direction or another, which leads to the destruction of gears and oil seals. To clarify the process of changing the properties of the oil, control sampling was carried out with subsequent analysis. On the basis of the experimental data obtained, the regularities of changes in the mass fraction of water, the amount and size of mechanical impurities in steering rack oils during the operation of minibuses on urban routes, approximated by power functions, have been identified, allowing for timely performance of maintenance and repair work; the mathematical model of the process of wear of the working surfaces of the teeth of the rack mechanism is refined, reflecting the dependence of the wear values on the mileage values of Ford Tranzit city minibuses. The conducted studies indicate the need to adjust the maintenance of steering mechanisms of Ford Tranzit minibuses. It was found that by the run of 75,000 km in the oil, the mass fraction of water and abrasive particles reach a critical value, the oil also does not withstand corrosion tests and compatibility with rubber. One of the ways to reduce repair costs is to adjust the list of maintenance of minibuses operating on urban routes. To increase durability, the calculation of the frequency of oil change is proposed. The values of the mass fraction of water and mechanical impurities were taken as the criterion for the formation of a sample of developments. Within the framework of controlled operation, it was found that shifting the frequency of oil change reduces the number of rack-and-pinion failures by 23%. The next stage of scientific work is the formation of a database of urban routes with different profiles, refinement of the wear model taking into account the number of loads on the route and the creation of an automated system for selecting service intervals for bus units.

Abstract:
The international literature on the economic and fiscal crisis that heralded the Great Recession emphasizes the negative effects of ‘disorganized decentralization’ on unions’ capacities for pay coordination and ultimately on their effectiveness in representing their members. These effects are seen as particularly pronounced in countries on the ‘European periphery’ such as Ireland. The article challenges this view by showing how the collapse of social partnership and centralized bargaining in Ireland was soon followed in the private sector by a new form of coordinated decentralized pattern bargaining. Coordinated sectoral bargaining emerged and was sustained in the public service. The durability of pay coordination is attributed to the strategic postures of unions, combined with embedded features of industrial relations institutions. The comparative import of the Irish case arises less from ‘disorganized decentralization’ than from the resilience of coordination following one of the most severe economic and fiscal shocks experienced by any advanced economy.

Abstract:
Purpose A coalition of students, professors, administrators and operational staff at Lafayette College designed an environmental module to integrate in-class curricular education with out-of-class environmental engagement. The purpose of this study was to improve the ethos of sustainability across campus. Design/methodology/approach The research reported here draws from qualitative and quantitative assessments to corroborate previous evidence that institution-wide collaboration is a necessary prerequisite for the successful development of such environmental campus programming. Findings It adds to those prior conclusions with the finding that three intertwined factors are critical keys to success. One is attention in the design process to coalition building between the academic, administrative and operational units of campus; second is a strong focus on organizational capacity; and third is explicit attention to preparing long-term management. Practical implications The particularities of college campuses, where student residence is temporary while the campus environment is continuous, require attention to organizational sustainability as much as the more common technical features of sustainability (e.g. energy, water, food, transportation systems, etc.). For small colleges seeking to implement similar programming to foster a culture of sustainability on their campuses, that commitment to organizational sustainability demonstrates that maintenance, durability and invested personnel are essential factors when similarly seeking interdisciplinary environmental education initiatives. Originality/value This paper describes the original program structure of Greening Lafayette. The program was built on the campus of Lafayette College through specific co-curricular, administrative, academic and facilities efforts. The paper details the approach Lafayette College students and faculty took to draw from best practices in campus sustainability, analyze their campus’ baseline engagement in and awareness of sustainability and leverage their college’s structures to design a program that generates a campus ethos of sustainability. It further elucidates the importance of ensuring the organizational sustainability of the program itself. While Greening Lafayette was designed for the context of a specific undergraduate campus, the program offers a model for faculty, students and administrators of other colleges and universities to build coalitions, design sustainability programming and develop an ethos of sustainability on their campuses.

Abstract:
Several states, including Israel and the United States, have put decapitation tactics, which seek to kill or capture leaders of terrorist organizations, at the forefront of their counterterrorism efforts. The vast majority of scholarly work on decapitation suggests, however, that leadership decapitation is ineffective at best and counterproductive at worst. Contrary to this conventional wisdom, leadership decapitation significantly increases the mortality rate of terrorist groups, although the results indicate that the effect of decapitation decreases with the age of the group, even to a point where it may have no effect at all. This finding helps to explain the previously perplexing mixed record of decapitation effectiveness. Terrorist groups are especially susceptible to leadership decapitation because their organizational characteristics (they are violent, clandestine, and values based) amplify the difficulties of leadership succession. Additionally, in contrast to the conventional wisdom regarding the durability of terrorist groups, politically relevant terrorist groups (defined as those with at least four attacks including one attack resulting in a fatality) endure significantly longer than previously believed.

The directions of development of practice, organizational and technological aspects in the refractory industry in 2021, as well as the prospects for the implementation of modern approaches to improve the efficiency of the use of refractory materials in metallurgy are analyzed. The forecast of the development of trends in the industry is made under the influence of the current multifactorial situation with a decrease in the production of ordinary refractory materials, an increase in the role of refractories of the main composition of high quality, unformed refractory materials and improving the technology of using refractories in solving problems updated by customers. The main directions of development of refractory production are discussed: consolidation of business, development of research structures, relocation of production facilities to the production sites of enterprises ‒ consumers of products. It remains relevant to increase the role of refractory materials in solving problems determined by the customer's requirements: «pure steel», energy efficiency and reduction of CO2 emissions, unit costs and increasing the durability of the lining of metallurgical units.

Making credible commitments is a formidable problem for states in the anarchic international system. A long-standing view holds that this is particularly true for democratic states in which changeable public preferences make it difficult for leaders to sustain commitments over time. However, a number of important elements in the values and institutions that have characterized the liberal democratic states should enhance their ability to sustain international commitments. Indeed, an examination of the durability of international military alliances confirms that those between democratic states have endured longer than either alliances between nondemocracies or alliances between democracies and nondemocracies.

The question of personal attachment to work in neoliberalism is subject to debate. Some scholars postulate that personal attachment to work based on durability, collectivity and predictability is weakening because of changes in its organisation; work ceases to provide the basis of subjectivity and identity. Conversely, others claim work, and neoliberal economic logic generally, pervades ever deeper into our lives, shapes our subjectivity, and incites personal and individualised attachments. This article describes four ways social scientists have understood personal attachments: entrepreneurship discourse; biocracy; approaches emphasising desire, lack and affect; and approaches highlighting the normative justifications and ethics of the self. Abstract:
In recent decades, the importance of cooperatives in agri-food markets has been evident. Specifically, in Spain they represent a very important part of the agri-food industry. However, there is no significant evidence of substantial differences in their management, different from the general business case. The main objective of this study is to examine how a certain organizational context influences manager decisions and perceptions. The purpose is studying whether this influence causes changes to the main conclusions of the stakeholder salience original model. The working methodology consists of carrying out an exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis (from the data of 352 agri-food cooperatives in Spain) in order to test the psychometric properties of measurement scales, and the hypothesized relationships between attributes and stakeholder salience results are examined using structural equation modeling. Results show that the measurement of the stakeholder salience varies in agri-food cooperatives. The contributions of this study are to confirm that: (1) in agri-food cooperatives legitimacy is the first measurement of stakeholder salience, unlike the general business case where that is power; (2) the attribute of urgency remains unchanged from the proposed model; and (3) add to the original model the attribute of durability because of the permanence of the interest of stakeholders in agri-food cooperatives.

Subject: The purpose of this research work is to develop the most effective technological solution for underground waterproofing of operating structures with design features, as well as being in difficult and cramped conditions of nearby buildings. Objectives Outdoor underground waterproofing buildings, working «clamp» protects most of their supporting structures from aggressive ground waters, contributing to the acceleration of corrosion processes and leaks of water in technical room. Materials and methods: New types of waterproofing are considered and the technological scheme of performance of works is given. In addition, organizational methods of hydraulic protection of building structures have been developed. Results: This technology can be applied from the basements of the operated buildings and performed at any time of the year. Innovative technological solutions are based on mathematical calculations performed by the authors. Conclusions: Technological methods confirmed the choice of effective solutions for waterproofing, conducted by a mathematical apparatus using the methodological framework in the form of logical-probabilistic method and the method of pair comparison. The creation of “visual protection” from the mineral composition for the supporting structures of the operated buildings allows to increase the durability of their hydraulic protection, to work in cramped urban and difficult conditions, as well as to extend the life cycle of the building itself.

Abstract:
In industrial design, perceived quality is driven by color, material, and finishing (CMF). Extant literature on CMF in the automobile industry has primarily focused on hue. Accordingly, the present study focused on color brightness with the goal of assessing whether light reflection brightness of sport utility vehicles (SUVs) positively affects consumers’ purchase intentions due to an expectation of premium design. Additionally, it was hypothesized that light reflection brightness of compact cars would negatively affect consumers’ purchase intentions, as they would expect a cost-effective design. Subsequently, multiple car designs—with the same style but different levels of light reflection brightness—were created, and randomized controlled trials were conducted through an online research environment in Japan. The results confirmed the study hypotheses, indicating that while light reflection brightness of SUVs positively affected consumers’ purchase intentions, the same effect was not observed for compact cars. This suggests the importance of coherent embodiment based on product concepts. While some elements, such as safety and durability, are required in all products, compatibility with product characteristics needs to be examined for emotional elements, such as design.

Abstract:
The article deals with the study of impact of organizational and technological factors on the index of recon-struction profitability of dwellings of first mass series on condition of habitants’ eviction while doing operations. We find lack of information on the methodology of the study of such objects in informative sources . Factual dwellings’ reconstruction has an incidental character and does not allow to define the impact of factors on the indexes of reconstruction because it takes place by fixed values of factors and limited quantities of objects. And as a consequence we find investors’ unwillingness to put money into the reconstruction of the dwellings of typical series. The purpose of the study is to define the efficient solutions of reconstruction of the dwelling of typical series 1-4382.5-7. The given task is solved by making abstract models of the series imitating reconstruction’s operations by simultaneous impact of organizational and technological factors. While conducting the investigation we defined the factors and the levels of their variation that have impact on the dwellings’ reconstruction. The plan of multiple experiment was elaborated considering the simultaneous effect of the given factors on reconstruction indexes. On the basis of the given series of dwelling we made informative and graphical models, and we also got the indexes of reconstruction. Graphical modeling allowed to obtain numerical values of operations’ durability. Simultaneous impact of factors and the conditions of habitants’ eviction defined numerical value of operations’ cost. With the help of formula we obtained the value of profitability index. We defined the dependency of profitability index on varying factors using the methods of mathematical analysis. It is shown in the form of dependency charts and is described by mathematical formula. We substantiated the admissible numerical values of profitability index of reconstruction of the dwellings of first mass series. The conclusions about effective solutions on reconstruction of such dwellings are made by graphical image and the areas of effective solutions are defined Keywords: factors, reconstruction indexes, reconstruction models, mathematical analysis, charts of dependency.

Abstract:
In her 2020 Earle F. Zeigler Award address, Marlene Dixon presented and discussed five elements of a sustained career in academia: Lifelong Learning, Authenticity, Relational Mentoring, Work-Life Balance, and Faithfulness. Dixon suggests that remaining open to new learning and taking risks helps increase capacity and vigor. Authenticity brings richness, voice, durability, and purpose. Relational mentoring brings connection, community, enrichment, and longevity. Cultivating work-life balance, rest, and self-care not only helps avoid burnout, but also improves creativity, playfulness, and liveliness. Finally, leveraging the extended metaphor from Tolkein’s Leaf by Niggle, Dixon argues that faithfulness, rather than visibility or measurable outcome, defines the meaning and value of our work and contribution not only to science, but also to our life circles.

Abstract:
Evidence about millennial work motivations and the increasing importance of compensation questions the durability of the donative labor hypothesis in explaining nonprofit sector commitment. Nonprofit graduate education offers an employment pipeline into the sector, but what if the importance of compensation is partly driven by the financial burden accrued from education? Could it be that financial burden contributes to choices about work and commitment to the nonprofit sector? Using longitudinal data of nonprofit education alumni, we inquire about their sector commitment in light of the financial burden from their degree. Findings of this exploratory study offer a starting point for future research into how nonprofit education alumni view career opportunities in the nonprofit sector.

Abstract:
PurposeThis paper aims to share how it was possible to change the way business was conducted in a short period in order to continue the academic semester and seek alternatives to manage the day-to-day university affairs in the midst of a pandemic crisis at a higher education setting. As a result, the authors’ experiences have created new norms and opportunities for the university.Design/methodology/approachThe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in Brunei Darussalam is an evolving situation with extraordinary challenges for staff and students of the university. Although the campus remains open and essential services were continuously provided, the university had to implement and adapt to new norms instinctively to minimise the potential pathways for community spread of the coronavirus and at the same time minimise interruption in teaching and learning.FindingsFirstly, structured blended learning will be the basis of teaching and learning, alongside ensuring the highest quality of online education and successful achievement of the intended learning objectives. Secondly, blended learning will open more opportunities to offer programmes in a more flexible, personalised, student-centric and lifelong learning manner, with the option of taking a study hiatus at students' convenience. Thirdly, there will be more global classrooms and the exchange of online modules with international partner universities. Fourthly, short programmes such as the Global Discovery Programmes will be modified and improvised to become an online learning experience. And finally, there will also be the opportunity to understand and consider the physical and mental well-being and durability of the university community in overcoming a national crisis situation.Originality/valueThis paper is intended to be a conceptual paper where the authors describe novel experiences during the pandemic. The authors’ views, interventions and experiences may result into a new model for higher education that will reposition students to the new global markets and economy.

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to design, build and validate a scale for the measurement of Saudi industrial Organizations' SC Management Practices (SCMP), and also to evaluate its efficiency at various SCM measurements. The analysis identified 20 constructs of (SCMPs) based on a comprehensive literature review; namely Strategic Partnership of Suppliers (SPS), Customer Relationship (CR), Information Sharing (IS), Information Quality (IQ), Postponement (PST), Agreed Vision and Goals (AVG), Sharing of Risks and Rewards (SRR), Lean Manufacturing (LM), Total Quality Management (TQM), Organizational Culture (OC), Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Benchmarking and Performance Measurement (BPM), Agile Manufacturing (AM), Outsourcing (OUT), Just In Time Manufacturing (JIT), Green SC Management (GSCM), Reverse Logistics (RL), Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI), Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), and SC Integration (SCI), and four SCM performance structures in particular namely; Flexibility Perspective (FLP), Efficiency Perspective (EFP), Customer’s Perspective (CSP), Product Innovation Perspective (PIP). A survey tool based on the existing literature was developed and relevant data were collected from 351 Industrial Saudi organizations on this tool. In the data analysis the validation of the instrument is mainly carried out with confirmatory factor analysis in terms of unidimensionality, durability, convergent validity, discriminant validity, nomological validity, and the associated validity criteria. A parsimonious instrument that makes an important contribution to the SCM literature is generated by the results of this research. The instrument will allow an enterprise to incorporate various SCMPs, to keep track of the implementation status, and then to evaluate SCM performance to the SCM dimensions.
