Abstract:
Lay understanding and scientific accounts of female sexuality and orgasm provide a fertile site for demonstrating the importance of including epistemologies of ignorance within feminist epistemologies. Ignorance is not a simple lack. It is often constructed, maintained, and disseminated and is linked to issues of cognitive authority, doubt, trust, silencing, and uncertainty. Studying both feminist and nonfeminist understandings of female orgasm reveals practices that suppress or erase bodies of knowledge concerning women's sexual pleasures.

Abstract:
Women faking orgasm has been identified as a common and widespread practice, particularly in the context of heterosexual sex. While feigning pleasure has been the subject of extensive scholarly inquiry, almost no research attention has been applied to women’s experiences of resisting this normative practice. We adopted a discourse analytic approach to explore the question: If faking orgasm is often compulsory, how do women resist this practice and what does it mean when they do? Participants were 15 undergraduate students who ranged in age from 19 to 28. We identified the mobilization of several discursive patterns in their accounts. First, participants mobilized a “future pleasures” discourse to highlight the importance of resisting faking orgasm in order to increase their chances of experiencing genuine pleasure. Second, they positioned sexual satisfaction as an “equal right” to which they were entitled. In some instances, this was discussed in terms of reciprocity, in which pleasure is given and received. In others, it was positioned as a feminist issue of gender and power. Third, participants highlighted the importance of deflecting blame for absent orgasm in order to avoid hurting one’s partner. Fourth, participants described the role of pain as either a factor that prevented them from faking pleasure or that motivated them to fake orgasm in order to end painful sex. We conclude that an equal rights discourse, framed as a feminist issue, holds the most promise as a means of discursive resistance. At the same time, we highlight the significant risks for women of both faking orgasm and not faking orgasm and the delicate discursive work required when an expected orgasm is not experienced. We suggest that efforts to support women’s sexual health and equality are enhanced by better understanding the emancipatory potential of various discursive constructions as well as their limitations and risks. The merits and challenges of each pattern of accounting are discussed in the context of broader scholarship in the area of discursive resistance.

Abstract:
This article charts the gradual sexualization of marriage in twentieth-century Greece, exploring both expert and lay ideas. First, through official writings and marital correspondence, it sketches the subtle transformation of the nineteenth-century ideal of conjugal love into a more sexualized emotion by the turn of the century. Then, it analyzes the writings of “sex experts” and the correspondence with their clients, showcasing how sexual pleasure became a priority within marriage after World War II. Lastly, the records of a postwar mental health service show that by the late 1970s, the consensus on the importance of mutual sexual satisfaction was being established.

Abstract:
BackgroundMost studies examining female sexual functions (FSFs) have used cross-sectional designs, not allowing for studying temporal stability and possible relationships between different FSFs over time. Our aim was to study these relationships using a longitudinal approach.MethodThe study sample consisted of 2173 Finnish women from two large-scale, population-based data collections 7 years apart. The Female Sexual Function Index was used. Analyses were further conducted separately for women in different relationship constellations.ResultsStandardized autoregressive paths ranged from 0.136 (sexual satisfaction) to 0.447 (orgasm function) in the full sample, suggesting that most of the variance in FSF was explained by something other than previous function. Orgasm, desire and satisfaction were the strongest predictors of other functions in the full sample and for women in the same relationship at both time points (higher orgasm function predicted higher function in other domains; greater sexual desire and satisfaction predicted lower function in other domains), however, with small effects sizes. For single women, orgasm function and sexual desire were the only significant autoregressive paths. Significant unidirectional cross-domain paths were found for women in the same relationship at both time points. One significant cross-domain path, not confirmed as unidirectional, was found for single women.ConclusionsFSFs varied considerably over 7 years and relationship status was of importance when assessing temporal stability and cross-domain effects. Our results advocate tailored psychobehavioural treatment interventions for female sexual dysfunctions that take partner-specific factors into account.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction and hypothesis Pelvic floor muscle function plays an important role in female sexual functioning. Smaller genital hiatal dimensions have been associated with sexual dysfunction, mainly dyspareunia. On the other hand, trauma of the levator ani muscle sustained during childbirth is associated with increased genital hiatus, which potentially can affect sexual functioning by causing vaginal laxity. This study aims to determine the association between levator hiatal dimensions and female sexual dysfunction after first vaginal delivery. Methods This is a secondary analysis of a prospective observational study. Two hundred four women who had a first, spontaneous vaginal delivery at term between 2012 and 2015 were recruited at a minimum of 6 months postpartum. Thirteen pregnant women were excluded. We analyzed the association of total PISQ-12 score, as well as individual sexual complaints (desire, arousal, orgasm and dyspareunia), with levator hiatal dimensions at rest, with maximum Valsalva and during pelvic floor muscle contraction as measured by 4D transperineal ultrasound. Statistical analysis was performed using linear regression analysis and Mann-Whitney U test. Results One hundred ninety-one women were evaluated at a median of 11 months postpartum. There was no significant association between total PISQ-12 score and levator hiatal dimensions. Looking at individual sexual complaints, women with dyspareunia had significantly smaller levator hiatal area and anterior-posterior diameter on maximum Valsalva. By using multivariate logistic regression analysis however we found dyspareunia was not independently associated with levator hiatal dimensions. Conclusions After first vaginal delivery sexual dysfunction is not associated with levator hiatal dimensions as measured by 4D transperineal ultrasound.

This response reinforces several major themes in our target article: (a) the importance of sex-specific, within-sex variation in mating tactics; (b) the relevance of optimality thinking to understanding that variation; (c) the significance of special design for reconstructing evolutionary history; (d) the replicated findings that women's mating preferences vary across their menstrual cycle in ways revealing special design; and (e) the importance of applying market phenomena to understand the complex dynamics of mating. We also elaborate on three points: (1) Men who have indicators of genetic fitness may provide more direct benefits when female demand for extra-pair and short-term sex is very low; (2) both men and women track ecological cues to make mating decisions; and (3) more research on female orgasm is needed.

In this article, we explore women’s accounts of consensual but unwanted sex, and how these accounts connect to feigning sexual pleasure. Interviews were conducted with 15 women and we employed a discursive analytic approach to examine the data. All women used discursive features (e.g. negation, hedging) to situate at least one of their past sexual experiences as problematic although all avoided the use of explicit labels such as rape or coercion. Furthermore, women commonly faked orgasm as a means to end these troubling sexual encounters. We argue the importance of considering women’s accounts of ‘problem’ sex so these experiences are not dismissed.

Abstract:
The important prevalence of autoimmune thyroid disease (AITD) in the general population was the main motivation for conducting the present study. The present paper aims to estimate the possible comorbidities related to female sexual dysfunction (FSD) and depression related to AITD. The study group consisted of 320 patients: 250 cases known with untreated AITD, divided into subgroups (euthyroid subgroup, subclinical hypothyroidism subgroup and clinical hypothyroidism subgroup); respectively 70 healthy females in the control group. Patients underwent thyroid evaluation, ovarian evaluation and laboratory assays. At the time of the diagnosis of autoimmune thyroid disease, psychometric scales were filled in by the patients: the Female Sexual Function Index 6 (FSFI-6) and the Beck’s Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II). It was observed that healthy patients had significantly higher FSFI scores than patients with AITD (28 vs. 27; p = 0.006). In the AITD group, the risk of FSD increases with the severity of thyroid disease. The most affected areas were: sexual desire (p < 0.001), lubrication (p = 0.001) and orgasm (p = 0.008), followed by excitability and sexual satisfaction. The severity of hypothyroidism influences the degree of decrease in libido, central and peripheral excitability. Sexual satisfaction and orgasm were less influenced. The field related to pain seems uninfluenced by the presence of thyroid disease. The concomitant presence of depression and the value of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) are risk factors in the development of FSD. Higher TSH value and BDI-II score increase the risk of female sexual dysfunction by 1.083 and 1.295 times, respectively. Our findings are significant and promising; they may help professionals dealing with sexual and reproductive health. Despite the importance of female sexual dysfunction and its prevalence, clinicians and patients often ignore it. In fact, only a small percentage of patients consult their doctors about sexual health, and their doctors do not often ask them questions related to this aspect.

Abstract:
Abstract Hypertension is one of the most prevalent diseases that leads to end organ damage especially affecting the heart, kidney, brain, and eyes. Numerous studies have evaluated the association between hypertension and impaired sexual health, in both men and women. The detrimental effects of hypertension in men includes erectile dysfunction, decrease in semen volume, sperm count and motility, and abnormal sperm morphology. Similarly, hypertensive females exhibit decreased vaginal lubrication, reduced orgasm, and several complications in pregnancy leading to fetal and maternal morbidity and mortality. The adverse effect of hypertension on male and female fertility is attributed to hormonal imbalance and changes in the gonadal vasculature. However, mechanistic studies investigating the impact of hypertension on gonads in more detail on a molecular basis remain scarce. Hence, the aim of the current review is to address and summarize the effects of hypertension on reproductive health, and highlight the importance of research on the effects of hypertension on gonadal inflammation and lymphatics.

Abstract:
9610 Background: The majority of women with early stage breast cancer (BC) will become long-term survivors, living with the sequelae of treatment. Attention to symptoms and quality of life (QoL) are therefore of increasing importance both during treatment and survivorship. Aromatase inhibitors (AIs) are used to treat postmenopausal women with hormone-receptor positive (HR+) BC and can lead to profound urogenital atrophy. Atrophic vaginitis in BC survivors is prevalent, its management is complex and it negatively impacts QoL. Methods: A prospective longitudinal IRB-approved study was performed at MSKCC in26 postmenopausal women with stage I-III HR+ BC on adjuvant letrozole or anastrozole for at least 3 months and had urogenital atrophy. All women were initiated on 10µg intravaginal 17-β estradiol. Patients completed the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and Menopausal Symptom Checklist (MSCL) at baseline and wks 12 & 24. Increase in FSFI score means better sexual function and a decrease in MSCL score means improved symptoms. We used the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Sum test to compare QoL measures at baseline to wks 12 and 24. The primary endpoint was change in systemic estradiol level from baseline to wk 12. Serial estradiol/FSH levels were measured at baseline and wks 2, 7, 12, 18 & 24; we used a highly sensitive estradiol radioimmunoassay, ESTR-US-CT, from Cisbio US, Inc. Herein we report the results from the QoL secondary endpoints. Results: During treatment with intravaginal 17-β estradiol 10mcg, improvement in sexual function as measured by the FSFI was seen from a median of 12.4 at baseline to 21.2 at wk 12 (p=.0091) and 21.8 at wk 24 (p=.0271). Improvement was seen from baseline to wk 12 in lubrication (p=.0091), desire (p=.0303), satisfaction (p=.0331) and pain (p=.0005) and from baseline to wk 24 in lubrication (p=.0210), desire (p=.0309) and orgasm (p=.0369). A reduction in menopausal symptoms was also seen from 30.0 at baseline to 23.6 at wk 12 (p=.01) and 22.5 at wk 24 (p=.003). Conclusions: Intravaginal 10μg 17-β estradiol provided relief from menopausal symptoms and improvement in sexual dysfunction in the domains of lubrication, desire, satisfaction, orgasm, and pain.

Abstract:
Objectives: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a very common endocrine disorder affecting 5% to 10% of women in reproductive age all over the world. Many comorbidities have been associated with PCOS including infertility, obesity, depression, anxiety, hirsutism, alopecia, and sexu al dysfunctions. In this paper, we have reviewed the available Indian and international literature regarding psychiatric and sexual comorbidities of PCOS. Methods: PubMed, Cochrane, Google Scholar, and other databases were used to conduct the search. Research published in English was included. We searched the databases using the terms ‘polycystic ovary syndrome’, ‘PCOS’, ‘infertility and PCOS’, ‘sexual dysfunctions and PCOS’, etc. Results: For this review, we could find about 90 papers pertaining to the subject. Most of them focused on the effect of infertility and symptoms of PCOS such as hirsutism on body image and sexual dysfunctions. Meta-analyses showed that women with PCOS had poor rates of sexual desire, orgasm, and lubrication. Body image often had a negative impact on sexual thoughts and fantasies. Conclusion: Focus on sexual dysfunctions in PCOS has been emphasized only recently after high rates of its prevalence have been found. Hence, management of PCOS involves a multidisciplinary approach where proper assessment and management of sexual dysfunctions should be given its due importance.

A good knowledge of its own body and the importance of the preliminary allow an awareness of erogenous zones, and to know all the resources which lead to the pleasure, to reach a satisfaction of the emotional, psychological and physical needs Objectives: estimate the theoretical knowledge concerning the feminine sexuality in a population of Moroccan women, to emphasize their perception and their knowledge in this domain. Methodology: a investigation with 100 women of 20 and more years old, all socioeconomic and educational levels. Use of anheteroquestionnary containing items relative to the anatomy of the body of the woman, to the preliminary, to the attitude of the woman during the sexual intercourse, and to the feminine orgasm Results: in Morocco, country of Arab culture -berbero-Muslim- the sexuality is submitted toCultural, ethical, psychological and social, biological factor. In our study 88% of the women considered that the knowledge of the feminine genital anatomy is essential for the sexual self-fulfillment. Erogenous zones could be not genital parts of the body for 82%. In our study 48% of women know the role of the clitoris in the sexual pleasure, 20% have already heard about the G point, and only 8% were able to know how to placeit.Concerning the erogenous character of the G-spot, meadows of 87% of our investigated ignore this role. 46% think that the woman must be active during the sexual intercourse. In our study only 7% declared to know that there are 2 types of orgasms at the woman clitoral and vaginal. Conclusion: it is very clear that the taboo remains heavy, the lack of information, and a sex education focusing on the hashouma (mixture of shame and prohibition), however, the majority of the investigated are for a sex education while respecting the cultural and religious values of our country.

CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: Relatively little is known about the usual frequency of sexual activity and how older individuals cope with sexual problems. The objective was to study sexual activity, prevalence of sexual problems and related help-seeking behaviors among middle-aged and older men and women in Brazil. DESIGN AND SETTING: Population survey, by Fundação Oswaldo Cruz. METHODS: Interviews were held with 1,199 Brazilians aged 40-80 years (471 men and 728 women). The standardized questionnaire investigated demographics, general health, sexual behavior, attitudes and beliefs. RESULTS: Overall, 92.6% of men and 58.3% of women had had sexual intercourse during the preceding year. More than half of the men and women had done so more than once a week. Early ejaculation (30.3%) was the commonest male sexual problem, followed by inability to reach orgasm (14.0%), erectile difficulties (13.1%) and lack of sexual interest (11.2%). For women, the commonest sexual problems were lubrication difficulties (23.4%) and lack of sexual interest (22.7%). Depression was a significant correlate of sexual problems, for men and women. More women than men had sought help for sexual problem(s) from a healthcare professional. CONCLUSIONS: The findings highlight the importance of encouraging greater use of available healthcare services, including consultation with a medical doctor regarding sexual health. This should not only enable men and women to maintain satisfactory sexual function well into their later years, but may also result in overall improvement in the quality of healthcare.

OBJECTIVES: to investigate patterns of sexual activity among teenagers. METHODS: a cross-sectional study was conducted between July 1998 and September 2000, among 117 sexually active female adolescents from a private clinic, in the city of the Osasco, State of São Paulo, Brazil. They were divided into two groups: one pregnant group (PG) comprised 62 adolescents that were either pregnant (46) or had previously been pregnant (16); another group of 55 female adolescents that had never been pregnant (NPG). During consultations with these subjects, a physician conducted a semi-structured interview. Knowledge, attitudes and practices relating to sexual activity were evaluated. The comparison between the two groups was carried out using Student's t test, the chi-square test or Fisher's exact test. RESULTS: the two groups showed considerable similarities in terms of sexual behaviour, having engaged in the first sexual intercourse at the age of 15 and having had an average number of sexual partners of 1.5. Nevertheless, adolescents in the PG group had initiated sexual life earlier and tended to use less contraceptive methods during the first intercourse. Despite widespread knowledge of contraception, a large number of the adolescents did not use any contraceptive method during first sexual intercourse. In their current sexual life, an average of 81% of the participants referred to attaining orgasm. CONCLUSIONS: knowledge about contraceptive techniques is not enough to avoid unplanned pregnancies, suggesting the importance of investigating other psychosocial aspects of motherhood and maternal identity among teenagers.

Objective: Sexual dysfunction is an important public health concern. Sexual dysfunctions, characterized by disturbances in sexual desire, arousal, erection, orgasm or sexual satisfaction have been reported in different research around the world. Prevalence range of disturbances is from 20% to 30% and 40% to 45% for men and women respectively. The aim of this study was to explore prevalence of sexual dysfunction in a Colombian male and female sample. Design and Method: Sample was composed by a non-representative national sample of 1366 women and 1410 men, aged from 18 to 73. To assess sexual dysfunction the Colombian version of the Massachusetts General Hospital- Sexual Functioning Questionnaire (MGH-SFQ) was used. Results: Results indicate on one hand that sexual dysfunction is more prevalent in women (42.5%) than men (32.1 %). On the other hand, in women, problems related to desire (28.5%) were more common, while in men those related to desire and sexual satisfaction, 21.4% and 21% respectively, were more prevalent. In women, problems related to desire (28.5%) were more common, while in men those related to desire and sexual satisfaction 21.4% and 21%, respectively were more prevalent. Furthermore, no evidence was found about the relationship between the sociodemographic characteristic (socioeconomic level, years of education and religion) and the sexual dysfunction; with exception of age. These results are similar to those observed in other cultures. Conclusions: This study shows the importance of epidemiologic research in male and female sexual dysfunction for the identification of risk factors.

IntroductionSexual dysfunction is a common consequence of cancer treatment that affects at least half of men and women treated for pelvic tumors and more than one quarter of individuals with other malignancies.Objectives/aimsIdentification of the main sexual dysfunctions related to cancer treatments. Awareness to the importance of addressing sexuality to cancer patients, identifying the main reasons why healthcare providers usually do not.MethodsLiterature review concerning researched articles published in Pubmed/Medline as well as related bibliography.ResultsMost sexual problems are not caused by the cancer itself, but by toxicities of cancer treatment. Damage during cancer treatment to pelvic nerves, blood vessels and organ structures leads to the highest rates of sexual dysfunction. The most common sexual dysfunction in men under cancer treatment is the loss of desire for sex and erectile dysfunction. In women, the most common sexual dysfunctions are vaginal dryness, dyspareunia and loss of sexual desire, usually accompanied by difficulties in both the arousal and orgasm phases. According to literature, there are many cancer patients who would like to be informed and advised by their healthcare providers about the consequences of cancer treatment on their sexual health. Unfortunately, this rarely happens.ConclusionsThis work intends to publicize current existing information on sexual dysfunction in oncology, focusing on the prevalence, etiology and clinical presentation. The authors also intend to promote communication about sexual function and possible sexual dysfunctions resulting from cancer treatments.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Abstract:
Objective: Scientific data shows that early appearance of sexual meanings in child development could predispose to psycho-sexual distortions that manifest later by different kinds of sexual disorders. By the term of erotic libido we understand the emergence of sensual fantasizing and the inner drive toward releasing sexual tension by seeking physical contact not including sexual intercourse per se. We give an importance to this concept as it indicates the very beginning of women’s sexual manifestation. The aim of our study was to examine when erotic libido awakens in sexually concerned women and whether it determines the existing sexual dysfunction they are suffering from. Design and Method: We have conducted cross-sectional study in 90 middleaged women reporting sexual problems. Female Sexual Function Index was used to assess their sexual function. The question that refers to their erotic libido age was “When did you first become aware of and interested in your own sexuality and start to fantasize sensual experiences?” Two groups of women distinguished- one with earlier erotic libido age (group one) and the other with on-time erotic libido age (group two). Results: Our findings show that there is statistically significant difference in two groups relating to their sexual disorder type. Sexual desire disorder meets in women from the second group, subjective sexual arousal disorder affects women from the first group. Orgasm disorder is equally met in two groups. Conclusions: The earlier awaking of erotic interest plays a crucial role in developing of female sexual identity and its integration into their sexual life.

Abstract:
In Plato's Philebus the last section of the discussion on the falseness of pleasure is dedicated to those pleasures intrinsically mixed with pain. This paper focuses specifically on bodily mixed pleasures, an analysis that extends from 44d to 47c, while its focal point is 46-47c. By adopting the anti-hedonists' methodology, Socrates cunningly transforms his entire analysis of bodily mixed pleasures into a discourse on human disease, in which medical terminology prevails. Two major points are made in the reading suggested here. (a) Despite Socrates' quasi-medical language, a substratum of poetic discourse is underlying his analysis. Thus, a network of poetic associations——probably promptly recalled by Plato's audience——not only reveals the intertextual encounter between medical, philosophic and poetic discourses but also contributes to the interpretation of Socrates' analysis. Hence, the pathology of love as expressed through poetry illuminates the meaning, questionable in straightforward medical terms, of passage 46c6-d2, while it also reveals the unfolding unity underlying Socrates' analysis, otherwise thought to comprise three distinct medical cases. (b) Ancient medical lore is important for the understanding of passage 46d7-47a1 on the affliction of knêêsis and psôôra, not only because it confirms the analogy between the physiology of knêêsis and that of sexual arousal and climax, but also because it illuminates the specific medical treatment Socrates is describing. Thus, in the crucial debate about whether Plato uses the term aporiais or pyriais in 46e2, medical evidence seems to support the latter. The reading pyriais makes this complicated paragraph more comprehensible in terms of meaning and syntax, while stressing the importance of heat in the processes of both the curing of knêêsis and of human orgasm. Besides, it further confirms the intertextual encounter between the Phaedrus and the Philebus.

Abstract:
Sexual problems are found in four major forms: lack of libido, lack of arousal and potency, pain and discomfort during intercourse, and lack of orgasm. It is possible to work with a holistic approach to sexology in the clinic in order to find and repair the negative beliefs, repressions of love, and lack of purpose of life, which are the core to problems like arousal, potency, and pain with repression of gender and sexuality. It is important not to focus only on the gender and genitals in understanding the patient's sexual problems. It is of equal importance not to neglect the body, its parts, and the feelings and emotions connected to them. Shame, guilt, helplessness, fear, disgust, anger, hatred, and other strong feelings are almost always an important part of a sexual problem and these feelings are often “held” by the tissue of the pelvis and sexual organs. The patient with sexual problems can be helped both by healing existence in general and by discharging old painful emotions from the tissues. The later process of local healing is often facilitated by a simple technique: accepting contact via touch. This is a very simple technique, where the self-acceptance of the patient is to be promoted, for example, asking the female patient to put her hand on her stomach (uterus) or vulva, after which the holistic physician puts his hand supportively around hers. When done with care and after obtaining the necessary trust of the patient, this aspect of holding often releases the old negative emotions of shame bound to the touched areas. Afterwards, the emotional problems become a subject for conversational therapy and further holistic processing. Primary vulvodynia seems to be one of the diseases that can be cured after only a few successful sessions of working with acceptance through touch. The technique can be used as an isolated procedure or as a part of a pelvic examination. When touching the genitals with the intention of sexual healing, a written therapeutic contract with the patient is highly recommended and a strict ethical code is necessary to avoid malpractice. As about one woman in three suffers from sexual problems, many of which seemingly can be efficiently alleviated by the simple holistic techniques of “holding and processing”, it is very important that the holistic physician is also trained to work in the sexual sphere in order to be able to support his patients fully.

Abstract:
In this paper author underlined the importance of judicial and inspection bodies in formation of the capacity of security of modern state. It is known that the judiciary bodies have a very important role in protection of the constitutionality and legality of the state, because successful functioning of judicial system significantly contributes to formation of the capacity of security. It is very important that within the process of their own functioning the judicial authorities cooperate with the state security system. In certain situations functioning of the judicial system must be coordinated with the functioning of the security system, because neither the court nor the prosecutor’s office can solve the problems without the facts that they may find only in cooperation with the modern state security bodies. Such cooperation is necessary also in case of prevention function, because the judiciary bodies of the modern states also have a preventive role. In addition, the inspection services also significantly contribute to raising of the security system to a higher level by supervision of proper implementation and compliance to the law by citizens, working organizations and other kind of organizations. This supervision is exercised through inspections which function on all levels and have general and special authority powers.

Abstract:
Chordomas is rare malignant bone tumors thought to arise from remnants of embryonic notochord along the spine, frequently at the skull base and sacrum. Although chordoma is slow growing tumors, while are extremely recurrent, and aggressive, as well as the rate of prognosis remains poorly. Radical surgery and high-dose radiation are the most used treatments. Currently, there is no effective chemotherapeutic standard for chordomas. The Hedgehog (HH) pathway adjusts various processes included in expansion and differentiation of tissues and organs throughout the fetus’s life, furthermore cell growth and differentiation in the adult organism, of the cell in an adult organism, in which acute anesthesia is involved in multiple cancers. To study the role of signaling the hedgehog in the base of the skull and sacrum chordomas, the expression of SHH and GLI-1 levels were detected immuno histochemically, Additionally, PTCH-1 and GLI-1 expressions were distinguished by in- Situ- hybridization. Based on the findings presented herein, it is likely that the HH signal cascade was revealed even in cranial, where consecoently spinal chordoma and their recurrences play an important role. Our staining exhibited a canonical, ligand- dependent and autocrine Hedgehog signaling in skull base and sacrum chordomas including relapse. Due to the high levels of SHH and GLI-1 expression in all investigated chordoma samples, the study suggests a possible autocrine ligand-dependent activation of the canonical HH signaling cascade. A paracrine or non-canonical pathway cannot be excluded. Our results suggest that Hedgehog-inhibitors, like SHH-, GLI- and SMO- inhibitors, might serve as a potential and effective target for the treatment of chordomas.

Abstract:
Development encapsulates the morphogenesis of an organism from a single fertilized cell to a functional adult. A critical part of development is the specification of organ forms. Beyond the molecular control of morphogenesis, shape in essence entails structural constraints and thus mechanics. Revisiting recent results in biophysics and development, and comparing animal and plant model systems, we derive key overarching principles behind the formation of organs across kingdoms. In particular, we highlight how growing organs are active rather than passive systems and how such behavior plays a role in shaping the organ. We discuss the importance of considering different scales in understanding how organs form. Such an integrative view of organ development generates new questions while calling for more cross-fertilization between scientific fields and model system communities.

AbstractBackground and purpose: Competition among higher education institutions is intensifying and such institutions are increasingly directing efforts towards improving their ranking. In this context, both high-quality programmes and student satisfaction have become major goals of universities. In our study, we tried to identify the importance of various factors influencing student satisfaction in higher education institutions.Design/Methodology/Approach: A paper-and-pencil survey was carried out in the 2017/18 academic year at the University of Maribor in Slovenia. Students were verbally informed of the nature of the research and invited to freely participate. They were assured of anonymity. Mean values and standard deviations of the responses were calculated. Friedman test was conducted to assess which satisfaction factors were a priority for the students. Independent samples t-test was used to examine whether a significant difference exists between specific groups. The correlations between satisfaction factors and selected study variables (age, average grade and readiness to spread information) were tested using Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: The study results revealed that the most important factors influencing student satisfaction were teaching staff, followed by administrative support, programme issues, physical environment, location of the institution, social life and support facilities. Significant differences between the genders were found for two satisfaction criteria, i.e. programme issues and administrative support, both being more important to women than men. We also found that the higher the level of the class, the lower was the importance of the satisfaction factors. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that higher education institutions need to focus efforts on improving the quality of teaching aspects so as to respond to the needs of their students, but also that they should not neglect non-teaching factors, especially regarding the physical environment. With improving these factors institutions can raise students’ satisfaction, gain on the reputation and impact future enrolment.

Abstract:
Abstract Background and Purpose: Bringing several opportunities for more effective and efficient IT governance and service exploitation, cloud computing is expected to impact the European and global economies significantly. Market data show that despite many advantages and promised benefits the adoption of cloud computing is not as fast and widespread as foreseen. This situation shows the need for further exploration of the potentials of cloud computing and its implementation on the market. The purpose of this research was to identify individual business model factors with the highest impact on cloud computing adoption. In addition, the aim was to identify the differences in opinion regarding the importance of business model factors on cloud computing adoption according to companies’ previous experiences with cloud computing services. Methodology: Based on literature review, prior research results, and interviews with cloud computing providers and users, a research model was developed. Statistical analysis focused on identification of factors’ importance on cloud computing adoption and differences in opinions according to respondents’ previous experiences with cloud computing services. The study was done among 80 companies and five major cloud computing providers in Slovenia. Results: The research results reveal statistically significant differences in opinions on the importance of cloud computing business model factors according to respondents’ previous experiences with cloud computing services. The results can provide orientation for redesign or innovation of existing business models towards the creation of a customer-oriented business model for the more successful exploitation of cloud computing services and business opportunities. For potential users, the findings represent guidelines for the successful adoption of cloud computing services. Conclusions: In our research, the investigated business model factors could be classified into so-called “business model organizational factors”, as they primarily need to be considered by cloud service providers when defining or innovating their business models. For future research, the model should also include the impact of environmental factors, such as Competition, Business Partners, Legislation, Economic Situation, in order to investigate their impact on cloud adoption.

Abstract:
Mycotoxins present a significant problem in the diet of pigs. Secondary metabolites of fungi are toxic matter that have a negative effect on health and the performance of animals, as well as on the quality of their products. The creating of mycotosins is a complex process and it is difficult to predict which toxin will be produced and in which concentration. Food is most often contaminated by low concentrations of different mycotoxins (aflatoxins, ochratoxins, trichothecenes, fumonisinsi and zearalenone) which cause a series of undesired effects, depending on the amount that the animal has ingested into the organism. Mycotoxin interactions in the organism are complex, and they can have antagonistic, synergistic or a joint effect, depending on the combination and quantity in which they appear. The pig is a domestic animal which is most sensitive to the effects of mycotoxins. Long-term consumption of feed contaminated with mycotoxins results in a decline in production, a deterioration of the general health and reproductive disorders. One of the most important negative effects in pigs which receive low doses of mycotoxins in the longterm, is immunosuppression. Mycotoxins present very stable links that remain in raw materials and animal products for a long time and thus pose a major health risk for humans. .

Collagen fibers form the basic structural components of extracellular matrix (ECM) of vertebrates that serve to: (1) store elastic energy during muscular deformation, (2) transmit stored energy into joint movement, and (3) transfer excess energy from the joint back to the attached muscles for dissipation. They also act as mechanotransducers by transferring stress borne by the musculoskeleton to the attached cells in order to either up - or down - regulate tissue metabolism as a result of changes in mechanical loading. Finally, they prevent premature mechanical failure of tissues by limiting deformation of most ECMs and organs.

Abstract:
We aim to advance the discussion on the significance of the conjugation of bile salts (BS) in our organism. We hypothesize that conjugation influences the rate of lipolysis. Since the rate of lipolysis is a compound parameter, we compare the effect of conjugation on four surface parameters, which contribute to the rate. Since deconjugation is due to gut microbiota, we hypothesize that microbiota may affect the rate of lipolysis. A meta-analysis of literature data of critical micelle concentration, β, aggregation number, and molar solubilization ratio has been performed for the first time. In addition, critical micelle concentration (CMC), interfacial tension, and lipolysis rate measurements were performed. It was found that the unconjugated BS in mixed micelles increases the antagonism between the BS, therefore, increasing the CMC. This correlated with the effect of unconjugated BS on the solubilization capacity of mixed micelles. The collected literature information indicates that the role of the BS and its conjugation in our organism is a key factor influencing the functioning of our organism, where too high levels of unconjugated BS may lead to malabsorption of fat-soluble nutrients. The experimental lipolysis results irrevocably showed that conjugation is a significant factor influencing the rate.

To achieve this goal, we used a variety of preys so that we also tested in parallel the host range of other well-known and characterized strains of Bdellovibrio such as B . exovorus JSS. Among original results, we observed that these BALOs could also grow on a fish pathogen, i.e. Aeromonas salmonicida salmonicida which is responsible for salmonid furunculosis, providing thus a new potential therapeutic agent against this bacterial infection in freshwater fish farming. Singing can be called a musical speech, and therefore the singing voice differs from the spoken one not only in range and strength, but also in timbre, that is, it differs in the so-called voice coloring. In the training of vocalists, it is important to understand that there is a close relationship between the diction of the vocalist and his voice formation. The activity and coherence of the work of articulatory organs determines the quality of pronunciation of speech sounds, legibility of words, or diction. This topic is relevant today - practice shows that many students of vocals need staging diction. In addition, vocal pedagogy necessarily involves teaching a clear and expressive pronunciation of words, as a necessary condition for the performance of a vocal work. And I must say that the expressiveness of diction cannot be obtained without certain techniques.

Peritonitis is the most frequent complication of injuries to the abdominal organs. Co-existence of peritonitis with radiation sickness impairs considerably the results of therapeutic management and prognosis. Surgical treatment is indicated in the latent period of radiation sickness or only in the period of recovery. In the case of diffuse peritonitis, the time of performing the operation is of essential importance for the prognosis. Thepurposeof the reportedinvestigationswas the study of the effect of ionizing radiation before exposure of the organism on the course of diffuse peritonitis and a trial of prolonging with an antibiotic the preliminary stage of the disease in which surgical treatment is effective. Abstract:
Modern biology gives many casuistic descriptions of mutual informational interconnections between organisms. Semiotic and hermeneutic processes in biosphere require a set of “sentient” community of players who optimize their living strategies to be able to stay in game. Perceptible surfaces of the animals, semantic organs, represent a special communicative interface that serves as an organ of self-representation of organic inwardness. This means that the innermost dimensions and potentialities of an organism may enter the senses of other living being when effectively expressed on the outermost surfaces of the former and meaningfully interpreted by the later. Moreover, semantic organs do not exist as objectively describable entities. They are always born via interpretative act and their actual form depends on both the potentialities of body plan of a bearer and the species-specific interpretation of a receiver. As such the semantic organs represent an important part of biological reality and thus deserve to be contextualized within existing comparative vocabulary. Here we argue that the study of the organic self-representation has a key importance for deeper insight into the evolution of communicative coupling among living beings.

Abstract:
Food biotechnology comprise sorts of scientific disciplines including food chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, bioreactors, fermentation process, nutrition and food quality assurance. In the Daily diet, fermented food and drinks have and special importance because of their functional properties and biochemical compounds. Food biotechnology products have great importance from point of nutrition and obesity. Alcohol consumption must be reduced because of high calorie intake and harmful effect to some organs such as brain, liver and also cause social problems when consumed excessive amount. In Turkish traditional fermented foods such as yogurt, kefir and kımız, boza, ty and tarhana and special pickles etc., have various functional properties and biochemical compounds that have beneficial effect to organism. They contain lactic acid bacteria, probiotics, B complex vitamins, nutritive minerals, and some specific compounds which can prevent to development of cancer and tumors, cardiovascular diseases and cholesterol reducing effect. Food biotechnology also includes Genetically Modified Organism (GMO). Studies are evaluated in food biotechnology too. On the other hand, the another significant and common fermented product types are beer, wine, wine agar, even distilled alcohol drinks those produced ethyl alcohol from carbohydrates sources e.g. gape fig, barley, wheat, rice or any carbohydrate sources. Food biotechnology can be evaluated in basic food science and food biotechnology process. The mentioned topics were reviewed in detail.
