Abstract:

Fresh cattle dung from four farms with different feeding strategies was used to create artificial dung pats in a continuously grazed pasture in order to compare the rejection of herbage growing around the pats, the effect on undisturbed herbage growth under cages and pat decomposition. The first farm was an extensive organic farm (ORGE) with young steers grazing on a biodiverse sward. The second was an intensive organic farm (ORGI) with dairy cattle grazing on a grass/clover sward during the day and fed low-protein forages indoors. The third dung used was from an integrated farm (INT), where the feeding strategy was aiming for high dung quality by including straw in the diet. The fourth examined dung was from a conventional farm (CONV) aiming for a high milk production per cow, where fertilized grazed grass was the main component of the diet. A human smell test was performed to rank the odour of the four dungs.After 6 weeks of continuous grazing with dairy cattle, herbage yield around INT pats tended to be lowest, whilst undisturbed herbage yield in and around caged INT pats was highest (P<0·05). Therefore, it could be concluded that rejection was lowest for INT. The CONV pats gave highest rejection (P<0·05). However, herbage yield around the dung pats under grazing showed no significant correlation with both the human smell test and the contents of total-N and sugar in the rejected herbage.The feeding strategy had a significant effect on the decomposition of dung pats under the cages. After 6 weeks, the most liquid and least fibrous dung (CONV) showed highest decomposition (P<0·05), whilst decomposition of the most solid and fibrous dung (ORGE) tended to be lowest. However, no relationship was found between the decomposition of dung and the rejection of herbage around the dung pats.When combining a number of parameters determined in the experiment and comparing them using index figures for dung quality in terms of rejection, herbage growth and decomposition, the index figures of ORGI (102) and especially INT (113) were above average (100), while those of ORGE (94) and CONV (90) were below average. The difference between ORGI and INT might be explained by the addition of straw to the diet in the latter. The study showed that there are possibilities to improve dung quality by altering feeding strategy.

Abstract:

Quatre-vingt-dix bilans digestifs (six expériences) ont été réalisés sur des porcs mâles castrés de race Large White, à raison de cinq animaux par régime, pour apprécier la valeur énergétique (ED, EM) des céréales françaises au cours de trois années de récolte successives. Les excreta (fèces et urine) ont été collectés en totalité pendant dix jours consécutifs. Les régimes étaient exclusivement à base de céréales (96 %). Chaque année, six lots de céréales représentatifs de la récolte nationale étaient testés : maïs « Nord France », maïs « Sud France », blé tendre, orge de printemps, orge d’hiver à deux rangs et escourgeon. Les résultats obtenus indiquent de faibles variations entre années et une bonne répétabilité de la valeur énergétique relative des différentes céréales : maïs (111), blé (108), orge de printemps (100), orge d’hiver à deux rangs (100), escourgeon (98). Les valeurs énergétiques moyennes enregistrées avec les six lots de maïs (3 940 kcal ED/kg MS) et les trois lots de blé (3 830 kcal ED/kg MS) sont pratiquement identiques aux valeurs de référence (INRA 1984). Pour les neuf lots d’orges, les valeurs trouvées diffèrent seulement de 1 % en moyenne par rapport aux valeurs calculées à partir de leurs teneurs en cellulose brute à l’aide de l’équation proposée antérieurement : ED (kcal/kg MS) = 4 072 -110 CB (% MS).

Il y a une dizaine d’années débutaient des enquêtes annuelles sur la qualité des céréales. Elles ont été réalisées dans des régions à forte production et ont porté sur la composition chimique et l’évaluation de la teneur en énergie métabolisable pour les volailles (EM). Blé, orge et maïs ont fait l’objet respectivement de 11, 6 et 8 enquêtes. Ce nombre est de 4 pour le sorgho, l’avoine, le seigle et le triticale. Les moyennes suivantes ont été obtenues pour l’EM (kcal/kg MS) : sorgho : 3844, maïs : 3726, blé : 3458, triticale : 3411, orge de printemps 2R : 3227, orge d’hiver 2R : 3207, escourgeon : 3132, seigle : 3131, avoine blanche : 2879, avoine noire : 2660. Le coefficient de variation entre années a été de 1,19 % pour le blé, 1,46 % pour l’orge de printemps, 1,68 % pour l’orge d’hiver, 1,93 % pour l’escourgeon et 0,70 % pour le maïs. Un effet significatif entre années a été mis en évidence pour l’EM de ces céréales sur coqs adultes. L’origine géographique des échantillons n’a pas donné lieu à des écarts significatifs entre EM d’une zone de production à l’autre, quelle que soit la céréale. La recherche d’équations de prédiction de la valeur de l’EM à partir des valeurs disponibles de la composition chimique a pu aboutir seulement pour l’avoine et le sorgho.

Abstract:

ABSTRACT Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium initiates infection of a host by inducing its own uptake into specialized M cells which reside within the epithelium overlaying Peyer's patches. Entry of Salmonella into intestinal epithelial cells is dependent upon invasion genes that are clustered together inSalmonella pathogenicity island 1 (SPI-1). Upon contact between serovar Typhimurium and epithelial cells targeted for bacterial internalization, bacterial proteins are injected into the host cell through a type III secretion system that leads to internalization of the bacteria. Previous work has established that the prgH, -I, -J, and -K and orgAgenes reside in SPI-1, and the products of these genes are predicted to be components of the invasion secretion apparatus. We report that an error in the published orgA DNA sequence has been identified so that this region encodes two small genes rather than a single large open reading frame. These genes have been designatedorgA and orgB. Additionally, an opening reading frame downstream of orgB, which we have designatedorgC, has been identified and partially characterized. Previously published work has indicated that the prgH, -I, -J, and -K genes are transcribed from a promoter distinct from that used by the gene immediately downstream, orgA. Here, we present experiments indicating that orgA expression is driven by theprgH promoter. In addition, using reverse transcriptase PCR analysis, we have found that this polycistronic message extends downstream of prgH to include a total of 10 genes. To more fully characterize this invasion operon, we demonstrate that theprgH, prgI, prgJ, prgK,orgA, and orgB genes are each required for invasion and secretion, while orgC is not essential for the invasive phenotype.

Résumé Dans son « petit traité en Anglais » sur La nature humaine (1640) et, ensuite dans Leviathan (1647-1650), Thomas Hobbes examine et redéfinit les passions. En prenant appui sur le concept de motion, mouvement, il les conçoit comme pensées : les passions sont des perceptions qui passent par le cerveau, mais pour se diriger vers le coeur. Une fois dans le coeur, elles provoquent du plaisir en favorisant le « mouvement vital », vital motion, ou bien de la peine, en lui faisant obstacle. La colère (anger), affirme-t-il, est le dépassement d’un obstacle, non la réponse à une insulte (contempt), comme le disaient, à tort, les Anciens. Cette critique est significative. Car orge, comprise comme la peine pour une offense injustifiée, accompagnée du désir de prendre sa revanche, était pour Aristote la passion politique par excellence. C’est parce que nous nous fâchons que nous nous révoltons et que notre révolte se justifie. C’est en colère que nous nous mobilisons dans une guerre juste. Qu’elle se présente comme une explosion tumultueuse ou comme un sourd ressentiment, orge est pour les Anciens la réaction raisonnée d’un acteur social, qui souffre dans son corps aussi bien que dans l’image sociale qu’il s’est donné et au nom d’une attente de justice : on ne reconnaît pas cette personne pour celui qu’il veut être dans le monde. Quelles sont les conséquences de cette critique, qui consiste à déconnecter l’ire de la justice, pour la théorie de l’état de nature, de la société civile et de l’état garant de la sécurité des sujets? Dans la transition d’une théorie de l’animal politique, naturellement enclin à la sociabilité (Aristote), à une vision mécaniste de la nature humaine, faite de mouvement et de compétition (Hobbes), c’est le fondement anthropologique du politique qui se trouve repensé. L’entrelacs de droits, habitudes et corps qui donnait forme à des émotions complexes se défait. Une comparaison entre la colère des Anciens et la colère de Modernes illustre cette dislocation.

Abstract:

AbstractInterest in organic grain production is increasing in the United States but there is limited information regarding the economic performance of organic grain and forage production in the mid-Atlantic region. We present the results from enterprise budget analyses for individual crops and for complete rotations with and without organic price premiums for five cropping systems at the US Department of Agriculture–Agricultural Research Service (USDA–ARS) Beltsville Farming Systems Project (FSP) from 2000 to 2005. The FSP is a long-term cropping systems trial established in 1996 to evaluate the sustainability of organic and conventional grain crop production. The five FSP cropping systems include a conventional, three-year no-till corn (Zea maysL.)–rye (Secale cerealeL.) cover crop/soybean (Glycine max(L.) Merr)–wheat (Triticum aestivumL.)/soybean rotation (no-till (NT)), a conventional, three-year chisel-till corn–rye/soybean–wheat/soybean rotation (chisel tillage (CT)), a two-year organic hairy vetch (Vicia villosaRoth)/corn–rye/soybean rotation (Org2), a three-year organic vetch/corn–rye/soybean–wheat rotation (Org3) and a four- to six-year organic corn–rye/soybean–wheat–red clover (Trifolium pratenseL.)/orchard grass (Dactylis glomerataL.) or alfalfa (Medicago sativaL.) rotation (Org4+). Economic returns were calculated for rotations present from 2000 to 2005, which included some slight changes in crop rotation sequences due to weather conditions and management changes; additional analyses were conducted for 2000 to 2002 when all crops described above were present in all organic rotations. Production costs were, in general, greatest for CT, while those for the organic systems were lower than or similar to those for NT for all crops. Present value of net returns for individual crops and for full rotations were greater and risks were lower for NT than for CT. When price premiums for organic crops were included in the analysis, cumulative present value of net returns for organic systems (US$3933 to 5446 ha−1, 2000 to 2005; US$2653 to 2869 ha−1, 2000 to 2002) were always substantially greater than for the conventional systems (US$1309 to 1909 ha−1, 2000 to 2005; US$634 to 869 ha−1, 2000 to 2002). With price premiums, Org2 had greater net returns but also greater variability of returns and economic risk across all years than all other systems, primarily because economic success of this short rotation was highly dependent on the success of soybean, the crop with the highest returns. Soybean yield variability was high due to the impact of weather on the success of weed control in the organic systems. The longer, more diverse Org4+ rotation had the lowest variability of returns among organic systems and lower economic risk than Org2. With no organic price premiums, economic returns for corn and soybean in the organic systems were generally lower than those for the conventional systems due to lower grain yields in the organic systems. An exception to this pattern is that returns for corn in Org4+ were equal to or greater than those in NT in four of six years due to both lower production costs and greater revenue than for Org2 and Org3. With no organic premiums, present value of net returns for the full rotations was greatest for NT in 4 of 6 years and greatest for Org4+ the other 2 years, when returns for hay crops were high. Returns for individual crops and for full rotations were, in general, among the lowest and economic risk was, in general, among the highest for Org2 and Org3. Results indicate that Org4+, the longest and most diverse rotation, had the most stable economic returns among organic systems but that short-term returns could be greatest with Org2. This result likely explains, at least in part, why some organic farmers in the mid-Atlantic region, especially those recently converting to organic methods, have adopted this relatively short rotation. The greater stability of the longer rotation, by contrast, may explain why farmers who have used organic methods for longer periods of time tend to favor rotations that include perennial forages.

Louis/Francisco est un jeune Espagnol de 19 ans qui séjourne au centre d’observation de mineurs délinquants de Savigny-sur-Orge d’août à novembre 1948 ; il a franchi clandestinement la frontière franco-espagnole. Son dossier personnel montre tout à la fois l’intensité de l’observation à laquelle sont soumis les mineures pris·e·s en charge par l’Éducation surveillée et la marge de manœuvre dont ceux-ci et celles-ci disposent. Louis/Francisco joue de son statut d’étranger pour brouiller les pistes et renverser le rapport de forces : mentant sur son nom et sur son âge, il se construit un double à partir d’éléments réels tirés de sa biographie, parvenant ainsi à désamorcer l’enquête qui devait mettre au jour sa « personnalité ». Cette enquête se focalise sur sa situation sociale et psychologique, et laisse presque totalement dans l’ombre une dimension pourtant écrasante de son histoire familiale, que révèle le croisement avec des archives espagnoles : le poids de la guerre civile et de la répression franquiste.

L’objectif de cette étude est de déterminer le régime le plus adéquat à base d’Opuntia capable de couvrir les besoins d’entretien en condition d’extrême sécheresse, avec le moindre coût économique et son impact sur la digestibilité, le niveau d’alimentation, le taux de glycémie et d’urémie. L’incorporation de l’Opuntia inerme a été menée sur 16 brebis, à l’entretien, en cross over: (régime 1 versus régime 4) et (régime 2 versus régime 3); reparties en 4 lots: régime 1 témoin (paille d’orge + orge en grains), régime 2 (paille + Opuntia), régime 3 (paille + Opuntia + féverole), régime 4 (Opuntia) ; en les comparant entre eux. Les résultats de la digestibilité ont montré que l’Opuntia améliore la digestibilité de la matière organique des régimes à base de paille, elle est de l’ordre de 0,72; 0,63; 0,67; 0,74 respectivement. Abstract:

La présente étude a pour but la substitution d’un concentré à base de caroube entière à un concentré à base d’orge. Elle a concerné cinquante brebis, réparties aléatoirement en deux lots: un lot témoin ayant reçu une complémentation à base d’une ration R1 constituée de 30 % son de blé et de 70 % d’orge en grains au flushing puis au steaming, et un lot expérimental qui a reçu un concentré R2 à base de 30 % de son de blé et de 70 % de caroube entière. L’impact de cette complémentation a été évalué par les notes d’état corporel (NEC) à la lutte et à la mise bas, les performances de reproduction ainsi que la croissance des agneaux. Les NEC ont été significativement identiques entre les deux lots à la lutte (3,33 vs. 3,48) et à la mise bas (2,87 vs. 2,94). De même, les vitesses de croissance ont été significativement similaires (p>0,05). Ainsi, les compléments énergétiques (orge vs. caroube) peuvent se substituer.

Ce texte reprend l’intervention du représentant de la fédération syndicale S ud -Rail, partie civile lors du procès pénal de mai/juin 2022 consacré à l’accident ferroviaire survenu le 12 juillet 2013 à Brétigny-sur-Orge. Il enrichit la recherche des causes du drame en faisant intervenir, au-delà des aspects strictement techniques, ceux qui relèvent des modalités d’organisation du travail. Après des considérations sur les limites du droit pénal, il expose les caractéristiques technico-organisationnelles générales d’un système ferroviaire, les conséquences de l’idéologie de la mise en concurrence forcée de la S ncf issue des règles de l’Union européenne et des choix des gouvernements français depuis 40 ans, qui ont impacté la situation économique du rail en brisant son unité de stratégie et d’action par la désintégration organisationnelle. Cet article traite particulièrement des conséquences de cette idéologie néolibérale sur les organisations du travail en termes de déni du rôle central du travail vivant, ce qui a conduit à la fois à accroître la souffrance au travail du personnel et à dégrader la sécurité du transport ferroviaire, d’où l’accident de Brétigny.

Abstract:

Laboratory experiments were conducted to determine the effects of 7 cultivars and 8 constant temperatures on the coleoptile length of barley seedlings grown in darkness. A field experiment was used to determine correlations between laboratory measurements on seed (coleoptile length, germination and weight) and barley establishment after deep sowing (at 80 and 110 mm). Cultivar and temperature both affected coleoptile length. Cultivars in order of coleoptile length were Orge Saida > Prior > Clipper > Schooner, Grimmett >Grit > Lada. Coleoptiles were longest (61-106 mm) at 10-20�C and shortest (28-36 mm) at 35-40�C. The cultivar x temperature interaction was significant (P<0.01), differences in coleoptile length among cultivars being greatest at low temperatures. Laboratory germination gave the best prediction of barley establishment for the sowing depth of 80 mm (adjusted R2 = 0.47), and coleoptile length and seed weight the best predictions for the sowing depth of 110 mm (adjusted R2 = 0.93 and 0.83 respectively). Strategies for improving barley establishment from deep sowings include cultivar selection, seed selection, selection of sowing time to suit seedbed temperatures and the use of seeding machinery which forms furrows directly over rows of deeply sown seed.

C’est la première fois qu’un prix Nobel scientifique est décerné conjointement à deux femmes. Emmanuelle Charpentier (née le 11 décembre 1968 à Juvisy-sur-Orge, France), obtient un doctorat à l’Institut Pasteur, après un master à l’université Pierre et Marie Curie (UPMC, maintenant Sorbonne Université, Paris). Microbiologiste, généticienne et biochimiste, elle poursuit un cursus international au sein d’institutions américaines avant un retour en Europe (Suède et Allemagne). Elle est aujourd’hui professeure à l’Institut Max Planck de Science des Pathogènes à Berlin qu’elle a créé et qu’elle dirige. Jennifer Anne Doudna (née le 19 février 1964 à Washington) est une professeure américaine de biochimie et de biologie moléculaire à l’université de Californie à Berkeley. Elle est titulaire d’une licence en chimie obtenue au Pomona College en 1985. Sa thèse de doctorat en biochimie, centrée sur l’étude des ribozymes, a été menée à l’université Harvard. Par la suite, elle a effectué un postdoctorat à l’université du Colorado à Boulder.

The responses of 95 barley lines and cultivars to spot form of net blotch (SFNB) caused by Pyrenophora teres f. maculata were analyzed as seedlings and adults in Australia and Canada. Cluster analyses revealed complex reaction responses. Only 2 lines (Esperance Orge 289 and TR3189) were resistant to all isolates at the seedling stage, whereas 15 lines and cultivars (81-82/033, Arimont, BYDV-018, CBSS97M00855T-B2-M1-Y1-M2-Y-1M-0Y, CI9776, Keel, Sloop, Torrens, TR326, VB0111, Yarra, VB0229, WI-2477, WI2553, and Wisconsin Pedigree) were resistant toward the two Canadian isolates and mixture of Australian isolates at the adult stages. In Australian field experiments, the effectiveness of SFNB resistance in three barley cultivars (Barque, Cowabbie, and Schooner) and one breeding line (VB9104) with a different source of resistance was tested. Barque, which possessed a resistance gene that provided complete resistance to SFNB, was the most effective and showed no effect on grain yield or quality in the presence of inoculum. Generally, cultivars with seedling or adult resistance had less disease and better grain quality than the susceptible control, Dash, but they were not as effective as Barque. A preliminary differential set of 19 barley lines and cultivars for P. teres f. maculata is proposed.

En segundo lugar, el IINCAP "[orge Basadre" realizó una Encuesta Agrícola, en noviembre del 2000, a 84 agricultores en la provincia de Cajarnbamba (distrito de Cajabamba) y a 96 agri cultores en la provincia de Chota (distrito de Cho ta). Estos agricultores son una muestra repre sentativa del conjunto de agricultores de ambas provincias y departamento de Cajamarca. Les récits collectés lors de l’entretien d’arrivée des jeunes "FMA" au centre d’observation de Savigny-sur-Orge, les écrits provoqués durant leur séjour, les lettres confisquées et conservées dans leurs dossiers, viennent nuancer une certaine vision sur la migration des algériens vers la France métropolitaine. Ces dossiers nous révèlent l’existence d’une migration de jeunes mineurs « isolés » vers la métropole. Ce type de migration peu connu se distingue de la migration de l’homme adulte seul et de la migration familiale sur différents aspects. La montée en métropole de cette population apparaît beaucoup plus comme une tentative d’affirmer son indépendance et son autonomie, souvent en rupture avec la famille et son mode de fonctionnement patriarcal, ou moins directement dictée par les impératifs économiques de la communauté dont le jeune est issu. Par ailleurs, certains mineurs ne débarquent pas du « bled », mais arrivent d’Alger ou d’autres grandes villes où ils ont suivi des études. A travers les quelques dossiers étudiés, on peut déjà constater deux types de migration de jeunes mineurs peu étudiés, nous semble-t-il, jusqu’à aujourd’hui. Le premier est celui des aînés des fratries. Ceux-là ont été ramenés par leurs pères qui travaillent et vivent depuis un bon moment en France métropolitaine. Le second type est celui qu’on a appelé, dès le début des années 1950, la migration de « jeunes isolés ». Ces jeunes signalés par les services sociaux, sont venus en métropole de leur propre gré.

Abstract:

La valorisation des ressources locales dans les aliments d’animaux en croissance, lorsque celles-ci sont disponibles en quantités appréciables, peut être une opportunité pour réduire les coûts de production et sécuriser le système d’engraissement. Le maintien des performances zootechniques reste toutefois un préalable. Une expérience a porté sur quatre lots de dix agneaux recevant des rations isoprotéiques dans lesquelles des rebuts de dattes ont été incorporés en proportions variables en substitution à l’orge en grain, à raison de 0, 15, 30 et 45 p. 100 de la matière sèche de la ration. Les rations ont été distribuées ad libitum par ajustement des quantités offertes. Le régime a eu un effet significatif sur les performances pondérales (P < 0,01) et alimentaires (P < 0,001). Les gains quotidiens moyens ont augmenté et les indices de consommation ont diminué avec le taux d’incorporation des rebuts de dattes. L’effet du régime s’est aussi révélé significatif sur les rendements en carcasse, mais pas sur le gras de couverture (P > 0,05). Les rebuts de dattes peuvent substituer entièrement l’orge en grain dans les rations d’engraissement des ovins sans pour autant affecter leurs performances.
