Abstract:
The user interface development process occurs in a behavioral domain and in a constructional domain. The development process in the behavioral domain focuses on the "look and feel" of the user interface and its behavior in response to user actions. The development process in the constructional domain focuses on developing software to implement the user interface. Although one may attempt to design a user interface from a constructional view, it is important to concentrate design efforts in the behavioral domain to improve software usability.

User Action Notation (UAN) is a useful technique for representing user interaction designs in the behavioral domain. Primary abstractions in UAN-expressed designs are user tasks. Information about interface objects is encapsulated in user task descriptions and scenarios. Primary abstractions in a GUI such as Motifâ ¢ are interface objects. Motif implements objects' behavior and appearance using system functions that are encapsulated within pre-defined object classes. Therefore, user interaction developers and software developers must communicate well to translate UAN-expressed interaction designs into Motif-based software designs. Translation is not trivial since it is a translation between two significantly different domains.

This thesis contributes to understanding of the user interface development process by developing a foundation to assist translation of user interaction designs into Motif-based software designs. This thesis develops the foundation as follows: 1. Adapt UAN for use with Motif. 2. Summarize Motif concepts about objects and object relationships. 3. Develop new approaches for discussing objects and object relationships. 4. Develop a partial translation guide containing VAN descriptions of selected Motif abstractions.

O FGF10 re... (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo)
Abstract: The oocyte is responsible for regulating mechanisms of cumulus oocyte complex (COC) maturation mainly through secretion of paracrine factors. Including oocyte secreted factors (OSF) are the fibroblast growth factor 10 (FGF10), and two TGF beta factors most studied, bone morphogenetic protein 15 (BMP15) differentiation and growth factor 9 (GDF9), and they are associated with the oocyte development of competence. This study investigated the regulation of oocyte cumulus cells on two current scenarios in vitro maturation in the presence of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) or ampirregulina (AREG). The absence of oocyte affects the expansion of the cumulus cells and also the glucose consumption and lactate production and addition of denuded oocytes reverses the effect of the expansion oocectomia but not glucose consumption or lactate production. The oocectomia also affects gene expression by reducing the abundance of mRNA hialurona synthetase 2 HAS2 and raising synthase prostaglandin expression 2 (PTGS2), pentraxin 3 (PTX3) and inducing protein of the tumor necrosis factor 6 (TNFAIP6) in the presence of FSH and AREG. The addition of denuded oocytes reverses the effect of AREG on oocectomia mRNA expression at 4 hours of culture, HAS2 and PTGS2 to 22 hours of cultivation only when complexes were grown in the presence of AREG. Additionally it investigated the isolated FGF10 action on the differentiation of cumulus cells. FGF10 reverses the effect of on the expansion of the cells and the expression of HAS2 and GFPT1apenas to 22 hours in cumulus but not glucose consumption or lactate production, which shows a delayed effect of FGF10 necessitating the presence of other OSF to soon effect as seen previously in the literature. Complementary to the results, it appears that the cumulus cells have an intracumulus control Smad2-activation by the presence of GDF9 and BMP15 in cumulus cells. In summary the oocyte... Abstract:
This dissertation introduces two novel techniques, OSF and PBR, to improve the performance of Sparse Matrix-vector Multiply (SMVM) kernels, which dominate the runtime of iterative solvers for systems of linear equations. SMVM computations that use sparse formats typically achieve only a small fraction of peak CPU speeds because they are memory bound due to their low flops:byte ratio, they access memory irregularly, and exhibit poor ILP due to inefficient pipelining. We particularly focus on improving the flops:byte ratio, which is the main limiter on performance, by exploiting recurring structures or sub-structures in matrices. Our techniques also support micro-architecture level optimizations to further improve performance. Operation Stacking Framework (OSF) stacks problems in large ensemble computations, which run the same sparse kernel using an identical matrix structure, such that they share a single copy of the indexing information to significantly reduce memory bandwidth usage. OSF provides performance improvements of up to 1.94x on an AMD Opteron compared to the CSR method. We validate performance results using hardware event counters, which demonstrate significantly improved cache and pipeline utilization. Pattern-based Representation (PBR) exploits recurring block nonzero patterns by generating custom code for each recurring block pattern. In this way, no indexing data for individual nonzero elements are read from memory, reducing the overall size of the indices by up to 98%. Our code generator emits highly tuned codes that utilize SSE vectorization and software prefetching. PBR accurately identifies a block size that achieves optimal or near-optimal performance using a linear multiple regression performance model. On recent multicore machines, PBR provides performance improvements of up to 3.4x sequentially and 5x in parallel, compared to the CSR method. The PBR library we provide converts matrices at runtime, allowing our method to be used as a drop-in replacement for existing methods. We compare PBRâ s overhead relative to its benefits and show that PBR is beneficial for many applications that repetitively call the SMVM kernel for the same matrix structure.

Abstract:
Abstract EXAMINATION OF BASAL NEUROENDOCRINE LEVELS IN OIF/OEF/OND VETERANS By Sage E. Hawn, B.S. A thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at Virginia Commonwealth University. Virginia Commonwealth University, 2015. Major Director: Ananda B. Amstadter, PhD. Associate Professor Departments of Psychiatry, Psychology, & Human and Molecular Genetics High rates of combat exposure exist among veterans of the recent conflicts, and are associated with debilitating mental health conditions, including posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Numerous psychosocial and biologic factors are associated with PTSD, including the HPA-axis. The present study aimed to compare baseline neuroendocrine levels by trauma group (PTSD, trauma exposed [TE], and non-trauma controls [NTC]) among a sample of young veterans. An exploratory aim was to examine potential moderators of the relation between PTSD and basal cortisol/ACTH. Group differences in cortisol were nominally significant, with the NTC group having significantly higher cortisol than the PTSD group. Sleep disturbance was the only moderator of this relationship in cortisol, although lifetime trauma load significantly predicted basal cortisol across all models. No significant effects were demonstrated for ACTH. Examining effects of trauma on basal physiology provides a critical stepping ground for future investigations that may inform targeted prevention and intervention efforts.

Abstract:

Background: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health disorder characterized by symptoms such as insomnia, irritability, issues with memory, difficulty concentrating, and poor decision-making abilities. With symptoms that closely resemble those of other anxiety disorders, it is very difficult to accurately diagnose. More research is needed to identify structural and functional imaging biomarkers to aid in diagnosis.

Methods: Ten right-handed male subjects (5 combat-exposed veterans, 5 healthy civilian controls) underwent magnetoencephalographic recording for this study. MEG data were acquired with a 275-channel whole-head CTF Omega 2000 system. Resting-state and tasked-based (Stroop Color-Naming Task) data were acquired. Voxel-based time-frequency analysis was subsequently performed using NUTMEG and SPM8.

Results: Significant differences were found between the two groups at rest (in delta, theta, gamma, and high-gamma neural oscillatory frequency bands) and during the Stroop Color-Naming task (in alpha, beta, and gamma, and high-gamma frequency bands).

Conclusions: Despite the small sample size, we were able to replicate some aspects of previous MEG research in veterans with PTSD. Not only does this result substantiate the use of MEG for population studies, but it also shows that PTSD is a mental disorder that is physical in nature and can be characterized through passively observing electromagnetic neuronal activity.

Abstract:
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), the signature wound of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, has caused veterans to face numerous and complex challenges within their intimate relationships post-deployment. Although other studies have explored the intimate relationships of veterans, the same level of research has not focused on OEF/OIF veterans from the standpoint of dyadic adaptation using the Dyadic Adaptation Scale (DAS). The purpose of this study was to explore the level of dyadic adaptation in intimate relationships of OEF/OIF veterans who self-reported PTSD and those who did not. More specifically, this study identified the factors that were related to the level of dyadic adaptation for this population. Participants were 126 OEF/OIF veterans who were enrolled in colleges and universities throughout the state of Iowa; provided basic background information in response to a demographics questionnaire; and completed the DAS to yield scores of the participants' dyadic adaptation within their intimate relationships, the Family Crisis Oriented Personal Evaluation Scales (F-COPES) that highlighted their levels of coping, and the Family Inventory of Life Events (FILE) that measured their life stressors within the last 12 months. The results of the correlation, MANOVA, ANOVA, and hierarchical regression analyses provided four major findings and implications. First, among participants with PTSD, DAS was correlated with tours of duty, FILE, F-COPES, and pharmacologic intervention, and among participants without PTSD, DAS was correlated with FILE. Second, the total dyadic adaptation scores for participating OEF/OIF veterans suggested an overall slight level of relationship dissatisfaction. Third, participants who self-reported PTSD had lower DAS total scores than participants who did not self-report PTSD. In addition, there was a significant difference on all four subscales (cohesion, satisfaction, consensus, and affectional expression) of the DAS between the two groups of participants. Fourth, in terms of participants who self-reported PTSD, tours of duty, types of relationships, and life stressors were the only variables that positively affected dyadic adaptation. In contrast, for participants who did not self-report PTSD, FILE was the only variable that affected the dyadic adaptation. These findings have important implications that highlight areas in which clinicians, educators, and individuals within the helping professions can join the Department of Veterans Affairs' initiatives to improve the reintegration of OEF/OIF veterans into their familiar roles post-deployment. Future research should explore the relationship norms pre-deployment and across relationship statutes, the identity of military intimate partners within treatment facilities, and the perceptions of treatment and dyadic adaptation after OEF/OIF veterans receive treatment in the community by civilian providers as compared to treatment in VA facilities.

Abstract:
Many transitional challenges have affected female veterans after returning from serving in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. The number of females joining the military and becoming involved in combat has increased within the past 10 years. Research exists on the transitional challenges of male veterans. However, little research exists on the reintegration challenges faced by female veterans. As these females become veterans, they are more visible in the Veterans Affairs Health Care System. Given this increase in number of female veterans, it is important to address transitional challenges experienced by females who served in Operations Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF/OEF) postdeployment. For female veterans, the transitional experience will impact their responses to readjustment in civilian life. Selder's transitional theory and Schlossberg theory provided the framework for this phenomenological study. Using snowball sampling, 5 female veterans who served in combat during the past 5 years were selected and interviewed about their lived experiences using an open-ended interview guide. Data from the interview responses were inductively analyzed for themes and patterns. Using NVivo11 for management of data analysis, the interview responses were transcribed, categorized, coded, and clustered, revealing 5 themes: reflection on deployment, health issues, support from family, environmental concerns, and readjustment into roles. The key findings revealed that female veterans who served in combat experienced complex challenges after reintegrating back into civilian life. The findings may contribute to positive social change by informing treatment plans and support programs for female veterans reintegrating back into civilian life.

Abstract:
There is an established link between posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and criminal activity. Of every 100 veterans who served during Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF)/Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), 11 to 20 percent are diagnosed with PTSD each year. Previous research has documented that veterans are incarcerated at higher percentages compared to nonveteran inmates, though little published research examines incidence of PTSD relative to violent crime. Using Agnew's general strain theory as the foundation, the purpose of this correlational study was to examine combat service, PTSD, and specific violent crimes as defined by the FBI as murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assaults; while controlling for branch of service, age, and sex. The sample consisted of 46 OEF/OIF inmates (federal and state) 9 of whom were convicted of a violent crime. Results from the multiple logistic regression analysis showed that combat service, PTSD, sex, and branch of service were not statistically significant predictors of imprisonment of OEF/OIF veterans for violent crime. Age, however, was statistically significant p = .029. The findings of this study contribute to social change by providing policymakers and prison administrators nuanced information (i.e., characteristic information - age, sex, branch of service, etc.) about the needs of this unique prison population with regards to reintegration. This may in turn contribute to improved reintegration initiatives to enrich the lives of veterans, their families, and the communities where veterans reside when returning from war. Focusing on reintegration will be very beneficial.

Abstract:
The decision to use Off-Site Manufacturing (OSM) as a construction strategy in the house building industry is often made using ‘gut-feel’ or poor information and at the wrong time and for the wrong reasons. Research has shown that the correct use of OSM in house building has the potential to address some of the key challenges facing the UK house building industry, such as the increase in supply of new homes, skills shortage gap, the need to reduce CO2 emissions and environmental impacts, reduce overall project duration, minimise overall project costs, and reduce defects in new housing. However, with poor decision making surrounding the use of OSM, this potential remains untapped.

Abstract:
Currently, neuropsychologists rely on assessment instruments rooted in century old theory and technology to make evaluations of military personnel’s readiness to return-to-duty or return to their community. The present study sought to explore an alternative by evaluating the validity of a neuropsychological assessment presented within a virtual reality platform. The integration of a neuropsychological assessment into a cognitively and emotionally demanding virtual environment – reminiscent of a combat experience in Iraq – offers a more ecologically valid manner in which to evaluate the cognitive skills required in theater. U.S. military veterans’ (N = 50) performance on the Virtual Reality Stroop Task (VRST) was compared with performance on a paper-and-pencil, a computer adapted version of the Stroop task, and the subtests included in the Automated Neuropsychological Assessment Metrics-4 (ANAM4) TBI-MIL test battery. Results supported the validity of the VRST, indicating it demonstrates the typical Stroop effect pattern. The emotional salience of the VRST resulted in slowed reaction time compared to the ANAM Stroop. Further, the complex interference condition of the VRST offers opportunities for evaluation of exogenous and endogenous attentional processing. In the evaluation of threat, participants were noted to perform more accurately and more quickly in low threat versus high threat zones. Ancillary inquiries found no clinically meaningful findings regarding the role of deployment or post-concussive symptoms, and mixed findings regarding the effect of posttraumatic stress symptoms on neuropsychological performance among the three tested modalities.

Abstract:
Sleep disturbances are a core and salient feature of PTSD and can maintain or exacerbate associated symptoms. Recent research demonstrates that cognitive-behavioral sleep-focused interventions improve sleep disturbances as well as PTSD symptoms. The present study is a randomized controlled trial comparing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) to a waitlist control group. Conducted at a Veterans Affairs Medical Center, the study: 1) compared subjective outcome measures of sleep amongst veterans assigned to either a treatment group (CBT-I) or a waitlist control group; (2) examined the influence of the intervention on measures of PTSD, general mood and daytime functioning, comparing veterans in a treatment group to those in a waitlist control group and (3) examined the effect of the CBT-I intervention using objective measures of sleep for veterans included in the treatment arm of the study. Study participants were (n = 40) combat veterans who served in Afghanistan and/or Iraq (OEF/OIF). Participants were randomized to either a CBT-I treatment group or a wait-list control group. Those in the treatment condition participated in four CBT-I sessions over six weeks. CBT-I included sleep restriction, stimulus control, cognitive restructuring, sleep education, sleep hygiene and imagery rehearsal therapy. All participants completed subjective and objective measures at baseline and post-treatment. At six weeks post treatment, veterans who participated in CBT-I reported improved sleep, a reduction in PTSD symptom severity and PTSD-related nightmares, as well as a reduction in depression and distressed mood compared to veterans in the waitlist control group. When controlling for current participation in evidence-based PTSD treatment, veterans in the CBT-I group reported a reduction in PTSD symptom severity while their waitlist counterparts demonstrated an increase in these PTSD symptoms. Veterans in the treatment group also reported improved objectively measured sleep quality between baseline and posttreatment. These data suggest that CBT-I is an effective treatment for insomnia, nightmares and PTSD symptoms in OEF/OIF veterans with combat related PTSD and should be used as an adjunctive therapy to standard PTSD treatment.

Abstract:
This study expanded the current literature by assessing PTSD in relation to reactivity and recovery from negative emotional arousal among OEF/OIF/OND Veterans. Cardiac impedance was employed during a speech task and a trauma imagery procedure. Those in the PTSD-S group displayed lower SBP and higher TPR reactivity relative to the PTSD- and PTSD+ groups; lower CO reactivity relative to the PTSD+ group; and more CO recovery than those in the PTSD+ group to the trauma task. For speech task, Veterans in the PTSD-S group exhibited lower HR reactivity for both speech preparation and delivery than those in the PTSD- group. Depression was not a significant mediator in the relation between PTSD and reactivity. However, further analyses revealed that it served as a moderator between PTSD and reactivity during speech preparation (SBP, HR, and PEP reactivity), and speech delivery (HR, PEP, and CO reactivity). Simple slopes analysis revealed that depression was positively associated with HR and SBP (speech preparation) and HR (speech delivery) for those in the PTSD-S group. For those in the PTSD- group, depression was positively associated with PEP during the speech task (to include preparation) and negatively associated with SBP and CO (speech preparation) and HR and CO (speech delivery). For those in the PTSD+ group, depression was negatively associated with CO and positively associated with PEP. For the most part, Veterans in the PTSD-S group exhibited lower reactivity to both tasks than Veterans in the PTSD+ group or combat-exposed controls without PTSD. In light of the emerging evidence relating blunted reactivity to unhealthy behaviors and negative health outcomes (e.g., depression, obesity), it would appear that both extremes, exaggerated and diminished reactivity are maladaptive responses to stress and that the most optimally response to stress is a moderate reaction.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to analyze the basic elements that affect the image of the Society for the Protection of the Rights of Music Authors and Publishers (in Czech OSA). Based on a study of professional literature it identifies the basic segments of corporate identity, which represent the starting point for building the organization's image and which is further analyzed in detail. Although OSA is not a typical company operating in a market environment (mainly due to its monopolistic position in the Czech Republic), it has something to do with creating a positive organization's image and the so called "goodwill" as well as it have typical profit organizations. The purpose of this analysis is not only to identify the key elements that affect the image of OSA, but also to outline activities that should be followed when creating a positive image. The document works with both recommendations in general terms, so the suggestions in specific areas.

Abstract:
Power grids utilize large central generating stations which entails the use of long transmission lines to deliver power to consumers. This approach poses some challenges such as line loses and carbon dioxide (CO2) emission into the environment from the burning of fossil fuels from such large generators. There is also little or no availability of electricity in the rural and isolated areas where the supply of power from the national grid may be considered uneconomical. Distributed generation proffers solutions to these challenges by generating power close to the point of consumption. A nanogrid is an important aspect of distributed generation in which electricity is generated for a single building. Nanogrids usually employ renewable sources of power such as solar and wind energy to generate electricity. Hence, reducing carbon dioxide emission. Also due to the versatility of nanogrids, people in the rural areas can generate their own electricity. However, the intermittent supply of power due to the variations of wind speed during the entire course of a day poses a major challenge in the use of nanogrids. This thesis focuses on the study of the interaction of the savonius wind turbine in an existing nanogrid with a particular load so as to have a better understanding of how the wind turbine parameters such as the wind speed and Tip Speed Ratio can affect the power generated from the turbine. This is achieved by modelling and measuring the power absorption of the savonius wind turbine operating in the nanogrid. From the results obtained in this project, it is glaring that the wind speed and Tip Speed Ratio of the wind turbine play a vital role in the total power harvested from the turbine. If the rotor blades spin too slowly, the wind will pass through the gap between the blades and no power will be generated. Whereas when the blades spin too fast, they act like a shield against the wind speed, creating turbulence in the air as they spin and so when the incoming blade arrives too fast, it hits the turbulent air created by the blade before it and thus, no power will also be generated in this situation. Therefore, it is of utmost importance to design the wind turbine with an optimal Tip Speed Ratio to obtain maximum power from the turbine and thus, improve the reliability and efficiency of the nanogrid technology.

Abstract:
The article starts with the notion of a remarkable research deficit (within the wider field of historically oriented European studies) regarding the thinking and discourses on “Europe” in East Central Europe, especially in Hungary. This desiderate could be explained by the partition of the continent through the Iron Curtain lasting for fourty years, what seemed to exclude these countries from Europe in several respects. Nevertheless there was and is a reconstructable, various if plural discourse on the place of Hungary in Europe. It was tightly linked with the discourses on the nation-state and on modernization in the 19th century, while the country was part of the Austrian monarchy of Habsburg. Thus it received main impulses from Western Europe, whose development was taken as an ideal to follow. The East, particularly Russia, was in contrast considered as the non-european “other”, the enemy of liberty and progress. Despite this notion, there were remarkable attempts to frame Hungary in an Eastern context, espeacially through the idea of “Turan”, that claimed a tribal community between Hungarians, Turks and Iranians, which should unite in a common empire. However catching up to the West remained the dominant goal, but was complicated by the structural, economic and cultural differences that lasted on feudal and agrarian Hungary until the beginning of the 20th century. Yet “Europe” was not only a model, it was also a, rather metaphysic and symbolic, institution to which the country appealed for support during the revolutions 1848 and 1956. Both upheavels against an imperial enemy, Habsburg and the Soviet Union, failed and Hungarians felt abandoned by the West, that is Europe. As a consequence of these gaps and failures the idea of Hungary as a part of Central Europe, a special region of small states between the Great powers in the East and the West with a specific identity was conceived. This concept also included the vision of a joint federation to facilitate the negotiations of the everlasting national and ethnic conflicts of the region. It can be found within the texts of 19th century liberal politicians like István Széchenyi, who shaped the metaphor of Hungary as a “ferry-land”, and Lajos Kossuth, who presented the first plan for Danubian Federation, Interwar-politicians like Oszkár Jászi and anti-soviet dissidents like György Konrád in the 1980ies. According to these and other protagonists of the discourse, the “centre” can be classified as the ultimate place of Hungary in Europe throughout the centuries, sharing and preserving the European Heritage

Abstract:
Over the past nine years, the number of travelers traveling through Swedavia’s airports has increased significantly. The increase has placed a high demand on Stockholm Arlanda Airport’s infrastructural capacity. In order to avoid major expenses on the development of the terminal buildings Swedavia has developed a project called “Off Airport Bagdrop”, which gives the travelers the opportunity to leave their luggage at a location outside the airport. This way the number of passengers and luggage in the departure hall at Terminal 5 can be reduced. The thesis examines how the service can be developed, what is needed for it to work as well as which problems must be solved. A process map and a timeline have been created to visualize the luggage handling process and its lead times. With data gathered through interviews and observations, three solutions have been identified. The best solution, with Swedavia’s perspective in mind, has then been selected. The solutions identified in the report are as follows: • A permanent “Off Airport Bagdrop” at Stockholm Central station where travelers in the vicinity of central Stockholm have the possibility to check in their luggage and get it transferred to the airport to then be able to tour the city or run errands. • The long-term parking Alfa and Beta at Arlanda where the travelers who arrive with their cars have the possibility to check in their luggage at the parking lot. This way they can begin their journey more comfortably • A “Pop Up”-service targeting group bookings, events and sport holiday travelers by providing temporary “Drop Off Points” at selected locations. We conclude that the latter alternative, the “Pop Up”-service, solves the capacity problem in the best way. This alternative is also the easiest to implement and captures the large number of passengers and luggage that create the capacity problem at Arlanda.

Abstract:
This essay explores the concept of student influence in class. All governing documents regarding the Swedish school emphasize the importance of student influence, yet previous studies indicate a general lack of it in practice. In order to get an insight into this problem from a student point of view, I interviewed six upper secondary school students. The results suggest that student influence in class is indeed an important factor in creating motivation among students. A lack of influence not only hampers the students’ interest in the subject in question, it also seriously impedes their reliance in their teachers. An ideal teacher, keenly alive to the opinions as well as to the interests of the students, crystallized from the interviews. The students also displayed a conspicuous trust in their teachers’ ability to guide them the right way.

Abstract:
Work which takes from elsewhere forms an important thread in European art music. There is a long tradition of music which variously borrows, thieves, pastiches, plagiarises, ironically ‘retakes’, hoaxes, impersonates and appropriates. The music I have written for Off the edge, while seeking to honour and add to this thread, also attempts to zoom in upon and make explicit the idea of an ultimate and irreversible composerly self-annihilation, a kind of one-way exit-gate from the world of authored musical works itself made of pieces of music, which so much of this tradition, I feel, points towards. (Of my nine pieces, it is perhaps Time to go—only, with its ‘à la suicide note’ texts and its music that seems to slide in from far beyond the frame that is ‘composer Luke Stoneham’, which manages to get closest to this.) I have chosen the title Off the edge, because all of my music tries to capture a sense of nocturnal peripheral vision: be content with catching glimpses of the composer Luke Stoneham, because as soon as you turn to look at him face-on, he disappears.

Abstract:
The main target of this examination has been to see if the real estate Orkestern 1 has the possibility to go off-grid and if it is economical defendable or if on-grid solution is a better way to go. The prerequisites are good with a large roof to place solar panels to the east and west, a yearly average windspeed at 4 m/s and a low energy consumption because the house is new built and well insulated. To calculate how much energy that must be produced in form of heat and electricity with solar cells, windmills, pellet stove and diesel generator an energy balance and an energy distribution will be prepared with help of calculations of transmission and ventilation loses. Storage of energy will be done in form of pellets, battery and biodiesel. The simulation program for solar panels Polysun is used to calculate the produced solar energy for each month on the year. Diagram is prepared for each month to see the need of energy and how much every energy producer is delivering. A straight pay-off calculation is done to see if there are any economic benefits and to compare between off-grid and on-grid systems. The result will be that on-grid system is better economical but still the off-grid system is doable.

Abstract:
In today’s society signatures are the most accepted form of identity verification. However, they have the unfortunate side-effect of being easily abused by those who would feign the identification or intent of an individual. This thesis implements and tests current approaches to off-line signature verification with the goal of determining the most beneficial techniques that are available. This investigation will also introduce novel techniques that are shown to significantly boost the achieved classification accuracy for both person-dependent (one-class training) and person-independent (two-class training) signature verification learning strategies. The findings presented in this thesis show that many common techniques do not always give any significant advantage and in some cases they actually detract from the classification accuracy. Using the techniques that are proven to be most beneficial, an effective approach to signature verification is constructed, which achieves approximately 90% and 91% on the standard CEDAR and GPDS signature datasets respectively. These results are significantly better than the majority of results that have been previously published. Additionally, this approach is shown to remain relatively stable when a minimal number of training signatures are used, representing feasibility for real-world situations.

A great deal of work has been done in the area of off-line signature verification over the past two decades. Off-line systems are of interest in scenarios where only hard copies of signatures are available, especially where a large number of documents need to be authenticated. This dissertation is inspired by, amongst other things, the potential financial benefits that the automatic clearing of cheques will have for the banking industry.

Abstract:
This case study examines a Philadelphia suburban school district, Lower Merion, and its failures to substantively integrate African-American students in the 21st century. Through a close analysis of the high school's basketball program, largely funded and popularized by Lower Merion alumnus Kobe Bryant, this case study exposes how extracurricular programs structure unequal expectations for African-American students in otherwise "excellent" public schools. By using oral history and local archival materials, Winning off the Court examines an all too common issue across modern American suburbia: public schools failing their minority populations while still purporting to be successful on a national scale.

The purpose of the thesis is to examine the thoughts and opinions of a selected group of people regarding the terrorist attack that occurred in Stockholm 12/11-2010. This study has been conducted through the method of focus group interview. The study was methodologically and theoretically inspired by Grounded Theory, which simply means that the participants' opinions have formed the theory of the study. As a result of the study, we can see that the main focus of the discussion held by the participants was through a we and them thinking-perspective. Furthermore, the study reveals that the participants tried to include who we (muslims) are, and to exclude who they (non muslims) are, while arguing in the discussion. Another definition is the one of here and there, where the participants defined terrorism and what causes it. Finally, media's role was discussed in relation to the creation of the medie-muslim.To explain the participants' perceptive, part of Appadurai’s Fear of small numbers and part of Brune’s Dark magic in the white media was used.

Abstract:
Práca sa zaoberá rôznymi návrhmi reforiem Rady bezpečnosti OSN. Analyzuje najmä návrh Panelu na vysokej úrovni a návrh profesora Schwartzberga váženým hlasovaním. Konkrétnou adaptáciou v realite ISCOMUN zisťuje klady a zápory navrhovaných reforiem a jej schopnosť fungovať v reálnej Rade bezpečnosti

Abstract:
The United Nations is an international organization founded in 1945. It is obvious that the status quo from that year cannot reflect the needs of present world. Because of this fact it is necessary to approach a reform. But the question is what the reform should deal with. There are plenty of reforming efforts in discussion. These proposals do not take into consideration only the reform of the Security Council but also other bodies within United Nations. In my thesis I will focus only on reforming the Security Council as a main body of the whole organization that should be able to react on security threats flexibly. The feasibility of UN reform depends on the agreement of the permanent members that can due to their veto right block any of the proposals. And for the time being, they use their privilege to do so because they are afraid of limitations of their rights and position. We cannot come up only with a clear proposal how to reform but also it is necessary to focus on the proper arguments why the permanent members should agree with the reform. The main target of the following master thesis is to find out whether the reform is feasible based on accessible information with respect to hindrances and positions of permanent members that are currently more passive than active.

Abstract:
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 23-26, 2000 / Town & Country Hotel and Conference Center, San Diego, California
White Sands Missile Range is supporting Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO) target firings from Ft. Wingate, NM. This two Off-Range Corridor allows BMDO to conduct long range testing within the continental U.S. The Transportable Range Augmentation and Control System (TRACS), consisting of a control van and one of two Mobile Telemetry Systems (MTS), provide the necessary on-site telemetry support. The Dual Remote Interferometer System (DRDAS) that tracks the telemetry RF carrier in support of Missile Flight Safety (MFS) is also included in this paper. This paper describes the telemetry support scenario in terms of preliminary simulations followed by real-time support. Real-time support consists of data distribution from the MTS to the Telemetry Distribution Center, TRACS Control van, Missile Flight Safety display van, Project Support vans, on-site data processing, as well as relaying raw data to the main WSMR Telemetry Data Center (TDC) for real-time analysis. As soon as telemetry data arrives at the TDC, it is converted into information. This information is used by MFS during real-time monitoring of vehicle performance. This paper includes the methods used for the conversion of data into information on-site and at TDC. Real-time data processing involves multiple independent systems performing their respective tasks on a particular segment of data.
