Hinson, Kenneth Paul. "A foundation for translating user interaction designs into OSF/Motif-based software." Thesis, Virginia Tech, 1994. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/40635.
User Action Notation (UAN) is a useful technique for representing user interaction designs in the behavioral domain. Primary abstractions in UAN-expressed designs are user tasks. Information about interface objects is encapsulated in user task descriptions and scenarios. Primary abstractions in a GUI such as Motifâ ¢ are interface objects. Motif implements objects' behavior and appearance using system functions that are encapsulated within pre-defined object classes. Therefore, user interaction developers and software developers must communicate well to translate UAN-expressed interaction designs into Motif-based software designs. Translation is not trivial since it is a translation between two significantly different domains.
This thesis contributes to understanding of the user interface development process
by developing a foundation to assist translation of user interaction designs into Motif-based
software designs. This thesis develops the foundation as follows:
1. Adapt UAN for use with Motif.
2. Summarize Motif concepts about objects and object relationships.
3. Develop new approaches for discussing objects and object relationships.
4. Develop a partial translation guide containing VAN descriptions of selected
Motif abstractions.

O FGF10 re... (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo)
Abstract: The oocyte is responsible for regulating mechanisms of cumulus oocyte complex (COC) maturation mainly through secretion of paracrine factors. Including oocyte secreted factors (OSF) are the fibroblast growth factor 10 (FGF10), and two TGF beta factors most studied, bone morphogenetic protein 15 (BMP15) differentiation and growth factor 9 (GDF9), and they are associated with the oocyte development of competence. This study investigated the regulation of oocyte cumulus cells on two current scenarios in vitro maturation in the presence of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) or ampirregulina (AREG). The absence of oocyte affects the expansion of the cumulus cells and also the glucose consumption and lactate production and addition of denuded oocytes reverses the effect of the expansion oocectomia but not glucose consumption or lactate production. The oocectomia also affects gene expression by reducing the abundance of mRNA hialurona synthetase 2 HAS2 and raising synthase prostaglandin expression 2 (PTGS2), pentraxin 3 (PTX3) and inducing protein of the tumor necrosis factor 6 (TNFAIP6) in the presence of FSH and AREG. The addition of denuded oocytes reverses the effect of AREG on oocectomia mRNA expression at 4 hours of culture, HAS2 and PTGS2 to 22 hours of cultivation only when complexes were grown in the presence of AREG. Additionally it investigated the isolated FGF10 action on the differentiation of cumulus cells. FGF10 reverses the effect of on the expansion of the cells and the expression of HAS2 and GFPT1apenas to 22 hours in cumulus but not glucose consumption or lactate production, which shows a delayed effect of FGF10 necessitating the presence of other OSF to soon effect as seen previously in the literature. Complementary to the results, it appears that the cumulus cells have an intracumulus control Smad2-activation by the presence of GDF9 and BMP15 in cumulus cells. In summary the oocyte... Hypothesis of the study: Hypothesis of the study: The present work was developed from the hypothesis that exists a relation enters the subfornical agency of rats (OSF) and the flow, protein and electrolyte content of the saliva, blood pressure and heart rate. Proposition: Objective of this study was to investigate the possible relation between the subfornical agency (OSF) and the flow, content protein and electrolyte of the saliva, blood pressure and heart rate in rats.Methodology: For the development of the study, (20) twenty adult male rats of the race Wistar (Rattus norvegicus var. albinus), weighing between two hundred and fifty and three hundred grams by means of gradual experimentation of phase 0 (F0) until the III phase (FIII); The twenty animals had passed for the salivary stimulation (F0 and FI), later for the cannulation of the OSF- fictitious injury (FII) and later for the electrolyte injury (FIII), With the injury in the OSF, allowed to inquire the participation of the cellular bodies and staple fibres present in the regulatory region of the salivary secretion , salivary flow , protein and electrolyte content of the saliva and the changes in the cardiovascular standards. For efficacy of the injury in the OSF, (FIII) a stainless steel electrode with 0.5mm of tip diameter, without isolation, was introduced in the area of the OSF for the cannula previously located in (FII). In the fifth day of the postoperative period, the salivary flow was stimulated with use of the pilocarpine injected intraperitoneally (IP) in all the phases and the animals of (FI) used ones as reference in relation to the fictitious and electrolyte injured ones considered Phase III. At all stages of the experiment, we determined the protein and electrolyte content of saliva, and blood pressure patterns and cardiovascular. Results: The results had been presented as average and error average standard. For evaluation of the interaction between factors (injury/drug/effect) the test of Newman was used posthoc (p< 0,05). Was evidenced relation of injury of OSF (FIII) with cardiovascular standards , demonstrating effect hypertensive of pilocarpine (FII) (32 (6mmHg) in relation to (FIII) (9 (4mmHg), increase of Heart Rate(F0 and FII) (310 (18bpm) and significant reduction of the FC in (FIII) (233 (23bpm) (p< 0,05) With regard to the salivary flow had reduction in (FIII) in relation to (FI and FII) (177 (17mg/7min), (501 (24mg/7min) respectively. Conclusions: The OSF is closely related to changes in salivary flow, secretion, protein and electrolyte content of saliva and cardiovascular changes in rats.

Background: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health disorder characterized by symptoms such as insomnia, irritability, issues with memory, difficulty concentrating, and poor decision-making abilities. With symptoms that closely resemble those of other anxiety disorders, it is very difficult to accurately diagnose. More research is needed to identify structural and functional imaging biomarkers to aid in diagnosis.
Methods: Ten right-handed male subjects (5 combat-exposed veterans, 5 healthy civilian controls) underwent magnetoencephalographic recording for this study. MEG data were acquired with a 275-channel whole-head CTF Omega 2000 system. Resting-state and tasked-based (Stroop Color-Naming Task) data were acquired. Voxel-based time-frequency analysis was subsequently performed using NUTMEG and SPM8.
Results: Significant differences were found between the two groups at rest (in delta, theta, gamma, and high-gamma neural oscillatory frequency bands) and during the Stroop Color-Naming task (in alpha, beta, and gamma, and high-gamma frequency bands).
Conclusions: Despite the small sample size, we were able to replicate some aspects of previous MEG research in veterans with PTSD. Not only does this result substantiate the use of MEG for population studies, but it also shows that PTSD is a mental disorder that is physical in nature and can be characterized through passively observing electromagnetic neuronal activity.

The article starts with the notion of a remarkable research deficit (within the wider field of historically oriented European studies) regarding the thinking and discourses on “Europe” in East Central Europe, especially in Hungary. This desiderate could be explained by the partition of the continent through the Iron Curtain lasting for fourty years, what seemed to exclude these countries from Europe in several respects. Nevertheless there was and is a reconstructable, various if plural discourse on the place of Hungary in Europe. It was tightly linked with the discourses on the nation-state and on modernization in the 19th century, while the country was part of the Austrian monarchy of Habsburg. Thus it received main impulses from Western Europe, whose development was taken as an ideal to follow. The East, particularly Russia, was in contrast considered as the non-european “other”, the enemy of liberty and progress. Despite this notion, there were remarkable attempts to frame Hungary in an Eastern context, espeacially through the idea of “Turan”, that claimed a tribal community between Hungarians, Turks and Iranians, which should unite in a common empire. However catching up to the West remained the dominant goal, but was complicated by the structural, economic and cultural differences that lasted on feudal and agrarian Hungary until the beginning of the 20th century. Yet “Europe” was not only a model, it was also a, rather metaphysic and symbolic, institution to which the country appealed for support during the revolutions 1848 and 1956. Both upheavels against an imperial enemy, Habsburg and the Soviet Union, failed and Hungarians felt abandoned by the West, that is Europe. As a consequence of these gaps and failures the idea of Hungary as a part of Central Europe, a special region of small states between the Great powers in the East and the West with a specific identity was conceived. This concept also included the vision of a joint federation to facilitate the negotiations of the everlasting national and ethnic conflicts of the region. It can be found within the texts of 19th century liberal politicians like István Széchenyi, who shaped the metaphor of Hungary as a “ferry-land”, and Lajos Kossuth, who presented the first plan for Danubian Federation, Interwar-politicians like Oszkár Jászi and anti-soviet dissidents like György Konrád in the 1980ies. According to these and other protagonists of the discourse, the “centre” can be classified as the ultimate place of Hungary in Europe throughout the centuries, sharing and preserving the European Heritage

This essay explores the concept of student influence in class. All governing documents regarding the Swedish school emphasize the importance of student influence, yet previous studies indicate a general lack of it in practice. In order to get an insight into this problem from a student point of view, I interviewed six upper secondary school students. The results suggest that student influence in class is indeed an important factor in creating motivation among students. A lack of influence not only hampers the students’ interest in the subject in question, it also seriously impedes their reliance in their teachers. An ideal teacher, keenly alive to the opinions as well as to the interests of the students, crystallized from the interviews. The students also displayed a conspicuous trust in their teachers’ ability to guide them the right way.

The main target of this examination has been to see if the real estate Orkestern 1 has the possibility to go off-grid and if it is economical defendable or if on-grid solution is a better way to go. The prerequisites are good with a large roof to place solar panels to the east and west, a yearly average windspeed at 4 m/s and a low energy consumption because the house is new built and well insulated. To calculate how much energy that must be produced in form of heat and electricity with solar cells, windmills, pellet stove and diesel generator an energy balance and an energy distribution will be prepared with help of calculations of transmission and ventilation loses. Storage of energy will be done in form of pellets, battery and biodiesel. The simulation program for solar panels Polysun is used to calculate the produced solar energy for each month on the year. Diagram is prepared for each month to see the need of energy and how much every energy producer is delivering. A straight pay-off calculation is done to see if there are any economic benefits and to compare between off-grid and on-grid systems. The result will be that on-grid system is better economical but still the off-grid system is doable.

A great deal of work has been done in the area of off-line signature verification over the past two decades. Off-line systems are of interest in scenarios where only hard copies of signatures are available, especially where a large number of documents need to be authenticated. This dissertation is inspired by, amongst other things, the potential financial benefits that the automatic clearing of cheques will have for the banking industry.

White Sands Missile Range is supporting Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO) target firings from Ft. Wingate, NM. This two Off-Range Corridor allows BMDO to conduct long range testing within the continental U.S. The Transportable Range Augmentation and Control System (TRACS), consisting of a control van and one of two Mobile Telemetry Systems (MTS), provide the necessary on-site telemetry support. The Dual Remote Interferometer System (DRDAS) that tracks the telemetry RF carrier in support of Missile Flight Safety (MFS) is also included in this paper. This paper describes the telemetry support scenario in terms of preliminary simulations followed by real-time support. Real-time support consists of data distribution from the MTS to the Telemetry Distribution Center, TRACS Control van, Missile Flight Safety display van, Project Support vans, on-site data processing, as well as relaying raw data to the main WSMR Telemetry Data Center (TDC) for real-time analysis. As soon as telemetry data arrives at the TDC, it is converted into information. This information is used by MFS during real-time monitoring of vehicle performance. This paper includes the methods used for the conversion of data into information on-site and at TDC. Real-time data processing involves multiple independent systems performing their respective tasks on a particular segment of data.
