Abstract:
Cilj: Amoksicilinski osip je generalizirani makulopapulozni egzantem koji se javlja nakon primjene semisintetskih penicilina u liječenju bolesnika koji imaju klinički neprepoznatu infektivnu mononukleozu. Često se kod takvih bolesnika pogrešno postavlja dijagnoza alergije na penicilin. Cilj ovog rada bio je prikazati pojavu osipa u djevojčice koja je liječena amoksicilinom zbog znakova upale gornjih dišnih putova. Nije imala tipičnu kliničku prezentaciju infektivne mononukleoze. Prikaz slučaja: Četverogodišnja djevojčica primljena je zbog akutnih simptoma kataralne upale gornjih dišnih putova i vrućice do 39,7 °C uz zimicu i tresavicu, na što je uvedena terapija amoksicilinom. Nakon prve doze amoksicilina javio se osip – prvo na glavi, iza uški, da bi se zatim difuzno proširio „spustivši“ se na trup i ektremitete. S obzirom na perzistirajuću vrućicu, širenje i konfluiranje osipa i grlobolju, djevojčica je hospitalizirana. Pri prijamu je bio prisutan makulopapulozni eritematozni osip, crveno ždrijelo s hipertrofičnim tonzilama i uvećani angularni limfni čvorovi. CRP je iznosio 37,1, a krvna slika bila je obilježena relativnom neutrofilijom. Iz biokemijske analize seruma za izdvojiti su bile normalne vrijednosti transaminaza. Serologijom je potvrđena akutna infekcija Epstein-Barrovim virusom. Nakon simptomatskog liječenja kožni simptomi su se postupno povukli. Pacijentica je četvrtog dana hospitalizacije postala afebrilna, a šestog dana otpuštena je kući. Zaključak: Patogeneza ovakvog kožnog osipa još je uvijek nedovoljno istražena. Najčešće je riječ o prolaznoj imunološkoj reakciji zbog virusne infekcije, a ne o razvoju prave alergijske reakcije na amoksicilin, na što se najčešće u praksi pogrešno posumnja. Zaključno, na infektivnu mononukleozu treba posumnjati čak i kada nema tipičnih kliničkih elemenata za tu bolest poput limfocitoze i povišenih vrijednosti transaminaza.

Abstract:
V prispevku bomo obravnavali problematiko osipa v programih e-izobraževanja. Zagovorniki e-izobraževanja poudar- jajo več prednosti tega izobraževanja v primerjavi s klasičnim, na primer večjo odprtost, raznolikost učnega gradiva, prilagajanje načina in hitrosti učenja ipd. Kljub tem prednostim in naraščanju števila programov ter vključitvi e-izobraževanja v nacionalne strategije po vsem svetu pa se izvajalci e-izobraževanja srečujejo tudi s problematiko osipa. Raziskave namreč kažejo, da je osip v izobraževalnih programih, ki se izvajajo v e-obliki, večji kot v klasičnih programih. Razloge, ki vplivajo na ta osip, pa je treba upoštevati pri načrtovanju in izpeljavi e-izobraževalnih programov.

Abstract:
The essay aims to rethink the concept of memory and its application in O. Mandelstam’s work. The term ‘culture’ is also questioned and it is substituted by the term ‘civilisation’. The author emphasises the role of the eyewitness, which forms a ground for the evocation of ancient culture / civilisation. The essay is divided into four parts: the first briefly summarises the state of research on memory in Mandelstam, the second analyses the theme of Crimea in relation to memory, the third part describes Mandelstam’s poetic Crimean landscape, and the fourth part analyses three texts as an example of ciphered eyewitness account.

Abstract:
This article focuses on Osip Mandelstam’s poem “Impressionism”. The main objective of this work is to analyze the key motifs and images of the poem and to offer an integral, non-contradictory reading of the poem based on its immediate context as well as on the specific features of Mandelstam’s poetics. Mandelstam treated impressionism with great enthusiasm considering it an innovative phenomenon in art; impressionism in its broad meaning most fully corresponded with his idea of the life-giving capacities of art as reflected in this poem. The article discloses the plot of the gradual immersion in the world of an impressionist painting in Mandelstam’s poem. A verse-by-verse analysis of the text complemented by the parallel reading of the fragments of Mandelstam’s prose, and also with impressionist paintings the poet was familiar with as a backdrop, allows me to define the particularities of Mandelstam’s symphonic and solid perception of plastic arts, including impressionist painting. The article shows how the antinomies of Mandelstam’s creative art affect the poetic text. “Impressionism” is not a reflection of specific motifs of particular paintings but a cocreative effort of resurrecting reality in art that Mandelstam thought to be the art’s prime purpose.

Rudakov to his wife, and suggests that the poem should be read as a manifesto of the «New Ac-meism», in which the stone is replaced by the Voronezh humus.

Mestrado em Engenharia Electrónica e Telecomunicações<br>Nos últimos anos tem-se assistido a um grande aumento da largura de banda nas redes óticas, que é resultado do aumento do tráfego de dados. Para responder às necessidades e assim aumentar a capacidade das redes tem-se vindo a intensificar as atividades de investigação, procurando novos componentes que proporcionem uma melhor eficiência dos sistemas. O aumento da complexidade dos novos dispositivos e técnicas de transmissão levam a que a análise e projeto dos sistemas se torne cada vez mais difícil. Como resultado são necessárias ferramentas de análise e projeto assistidas por computador, o que levou ao desenvolvimento de um software de simulação implementado em ambiente Matlab®. Este software designado de OSIP, é de utilização livre e de uma alargada compatibilidade. O trabalho apresentado nesta tese visa o melhoramento do OSIP com vista a permitir a simulação de sistemas coerentes, o que implica a incorporação de novos componentes assim como a implementação de métodos de simulação eficientes. A preservação da informação de amplitude e fase inerente aos sistemas coerentes permite a implementação de algoritmos de compensação digital que visam a equalização da dispersão cromática e da dispersão dos modos de polarização e a estimação e correção da fase da portadora. Para validar os modelos e metodos de controlo no simulador são realizadas algumas simulações e os resultados são comparados com valores teóricos e com resultados publicados na literatura. É dada especial atenção ao desempenho dos algoritmos de compensação das dispersões cromática e dos modos de polarização e dos métodos de estimação e correção de fase.<br>Over the last years the bandwidth of optical networks has continuously increased, driven by the exponential traffic growth. In order to meet the needs and thereby increase the capacity of networks research activities have been intensified, searching for new components which provide better system efficiency. The increasing complexity of new devices and transmission techniques has brought increasing difficulties in the analysis and design of the new systems. As a result, analysis tools and computer-aided design software are necessary, which led to development of a simulation toolbox in Matlab® language. This software named OSIP is open source and has a wide compatibility. In this thesis the simulation platform is improved in order to adapt the simulator to coherent systems, which implies the incorporation of new components and the implementation of efficient simulation methods. Making use of the amplitude and phase information enabled by coherent detection, digital impairment compensation algorithms have been implemented, aiming for the equalization of chromatic dispersion, polarization mode dispersion as well as for the estimation and correction of the carrier phase. To validate the models and methods of control in the simulator some simulations are performed. The numerical results are compared with the theoretical values and with results published in literature. Special attention is given to the performance of chromatic dispersion equalization, polarization mode dispersion equalization and carrier phase estimation.

Abstract:
Platelet count elevations are observed in various clinical situations. In essential thrombocythaemia (ET), this is believed to reflect a primary disorder of megakaryocytes (MK). In contrast, thrombocytosis in malignant lymphoma (ML) is thought to arise via a secondary effect on these cells. In this study, MK parameters of whole cell, cytoplasmic and nuclear volumes were evaluated in these disorders. A trephine biopsy was obtained from the iliac crest of 10 subjects with ET, and from 10 subjects with ML. All exhibited a thrombocy^osip (considered to be a platelet count in excess of 400×109 L−1 ). In addition, a biopsy was obtained from 5 volunteer, haematologically normal subjects. Platelet counts in all subjects were measured using Coulter S+. Biopsies were processed as described elsewhere( 1). MK and MK nuclear planimetric areas were measured and converted to associated volumes(l). Mean MK, MK cytoplasmic and nuclear volumes were significantly larger in ET(p&lt;0.05)and ML(p&lt;0.05) when compared to those in controls. In addition, MKs in ET showed morphological abnormalities which were not exhibited in ML. These results suggest that platelet count elevations in ML and ET arise from large MKs with increased amounts of cytoplasm. Abstract:
Stability and synchronous-response predictions, which were presented in the paper “A Lateral Rotordynamics Primer on Electric Submersible Pumps (ESPs) for Deep Subsea Applications” [1], are reevaluated to include the effect of the fluid between the pump housing and well casing. Conclusions are made based on these new findings. The same two-line rotor-housing model is used to model the pump’s rotor and its housing. The model dimensions are based on direct measurements of an ESP. The pump rotor and pump housing are only connected together at each stage by reaction forces and moments from seals and bushings. The rotor model is pinned to the housing at the rotor’s ends. The housing model is pinned to ground at its ends. Synchronous response predictions are presented for: (1) relative rotor-housing motion, and (2) housing velocity-response amplitudes. When handling viscosity of water, the rotor-housing model is predicted to be stable at new (centered) 1X clearances but rapidly becomes unstable with enlarged clearances (2X, 3X), primarily due to rapidly dropping rotor-housing natural frequencies. The impact of introducing effective swirl brakes for the stages’ wear ring seals was investigated for a pump running at 3600 rpm. Their predicted impact on stability and synchronous response were: (1) Onset speeds of instabilities (OSIs) were elevated well above running speed, and (2) Synchronous response amplitudes were reduced modestly. Housing-response amplitudes varied considerably with the choice of housing-termination locations. For a pump rotor length of Lr, varying the lengths of a centered housing over 1.5Lr, 2Lr, and 3Lr changes the housing’s natural frequency. This natural frequency can coincide with the running speed with proper termination conditions. If the running speed coincided large housing vibration amplitudes associated with resonance would exceed most vibration regulations; however, relative rotor-stator-response amplitudes were a small fraction of clearances for all cases. When handling emulsions at markedly higher viscosities, with a pump speed of 3600 rpm and new centered clearances, the predicted OSI was below 300 rpm. The OSI rapidly increased as the seals were displaced eccentrically, quickly elevating the 1st rotor-stator natural frequency above 1800 rpm and the OSI above 3600 rpm. With the model stabilized at 0.2 eccentricity, the synchronous relative rotor-housing amplitudes were a small fraction of seal clearances. Swirl brakes were not predicted to be effective in elevating pump OSIs for high viscosity fluids with new clearances; however, they became effective as clearances were increased. An ESP housing can contact the well casing in many possible scenarios (axial locations, contact-area length or girth, etc.). A mid-span, point radial contact was examined and modeled as a stiff-spring connection from the housing to ground. For both water and oil-water emulsions, a stiff housing-to-casing contact produced major elliptical housing motion (versus circular motion without contact). However, it had a comparably minor impact on relative rotor-housing response amplitudes or rotordynamic stability.

Abstract:
Stakeholder engagement is an important component in developing policies on critical issues such as the use and development of novel methods and technologies, including biotechnologies and nanotechnologies. Understanding the perspectives, needs, and concerns of stakeholder groups can facilitate the development of transparent and trusted policy recommendations. Innovative online research platforms have been developed as alternatives to typical stakeholder engagement methods such as in-person focus groups, interviews, and online and paper surveys. These platforms facilitate the engagement of geographically and linguistically (i.e., individuals who speak different languages) diverse stakeholders using a wide range of methods, from virtual focus groups to surveys. Stakeholders can participate at their own leisure and anonymously, which can facilitate more open interactions on issues where viewpoints may differ. In this work, we used an online stakeholder engagement platform (OSEP) to engage stakeholders and capture their perceptions and views about the application of nanotechnology in food and agriculture (nano-agrifood) and the role of responsible innovation in the development of nano-agrifood products. The OSEP provided a reliable and interactive environment for stakeholders to share their views and exchange ideas. Such OSEPs should be further explored as novel tools for engaging stakeholders on a range of issues from emerging technologies to public health.
