Abstract:
Fossil Osmylidae showed most diversity in the Old World (Grimaldi and Engel 2005), and many new taxa have been erected (Carpenter 1943, Panfilov 1980, Lambkin 1988, Markakin 1990, Ponomarenko 2003, Ren and Yin 2002, Ren and Engel 2007, Menon and Makarkin 2008), which greatly advanced the understanding and knowledge of osmylid palaeodiversity. However, most were merely founded as new taxa without clarifying their status in Osmylidae. Spilosmylinae (Krüger, 1913), an extant subfamily, is the largest group of Osmylidae containing about 100 recent species, which is comprised of Thyridosmylus Krüger, 1913, Thaumatosmylus Krüger, 1913, Lysmus Navás, 1911, Spilosmylus Kolbe, 1897 and Glenosmylus Krüger, 1913. The subfamily is characterized by the following fetures: moderate body side; simple costal cross-veins; numerous cross-veins in radial sector; MP forked close to the base of wing, which is also general occurrence in the fossil osmylids. However, up to now there were no related fossil taxa to be assigned to Spilosmylinae. We consider there should be more fossil osmylids which have the close affiliation with Spilosmylinae.

Abstract:
The osmylid subfamily Protosmylinae is revised based on our emended diagnosis: Petrushevskia Martynova, 1958 and Mesosmylidus Jepson et al., 2012 are excluded (both considered Osmylidae incertae sedis), and Sogjuta Martynova, 1958 is transferred to it from the Mesosmylininae. The late Eocene genus Protosmylus Krüger, 1913 is considered a junior synonym of Osmylidia Cockerell, 1908 based on a distinct apomorphy (deeply forked MA in the hind wing), syn. nov. Three new species of Osmylidia from the early Eocene of North America are described: O. donnae sp. nov. from Quilchena, O. glastrai sp. nov. from Republic, Washington, USA, and an unnamed species of Osmylidia is reported from Driftwood Canyon Provincial Park, British Columbia (all localities of the Okanagan Highlands series), and O. taliae sp. nov. from the Green River Formation of Colorado, USA.

Abstract:
The genera of the lance lacewing family Osmylidae (Neuroptera) and extinct allied families (Archeosmylidae, Saucrosmylidae) are reviewed. A key to living Osmylidae genera of the world is presented. Each genus is diagnosed and figured with a checklist of species included for each. New, revised or support for previous taxonomic changes include the following: Nuddsia Menon & Makarkin, 2008 (= Burmaleon Myskowiak et al., 2016 syn. nov.); Kempynus Navás, 1912 (= Clydosmylus New 1983a syn. nov.); Osmylus Latreille, 1802 (= Hyposmylus McLachlan; Dictyosmylus Navás, 1910; Plesiosmylus, Makarkin, 1985; Plethosmylus Krüger, 1913a); Parosmylus Needham, 1909 (= Mesosmylus Krüger, 1913c; Phlebosmylus Navás, 1928 syn. nov.); Thaumatosmylus Krüger, 1913a (= Glenosmylus Krüger, 1913a syn. nov.). New classification changes include: Mesomylidus Jepson, 2012 and Petrushevkia Martynova, 1958 are transferred to Protosmylinae; Lahulus Navás, 1930 is placed in Osmylinae; Stenosmylina Jepson et al., 2009 is transferred to Eidoporisminae. Cratovoluptia Martins-Neto & Rodrigues, 2009 is removed from Osmylidae and transferred to Ithonidae, while Cratosmylus Myskowiak et al., 2015 is transferred to Nymphidae. Idiastogyia Lin, 1986 and Yanosmylus Ren in Ren et al., 1995 are excluded from Osmylidae and placed as incertae sedis in Neuroptera.

Abstract:
Pseudosmylidia relicta gen. et sp. nov. (Neuroptera: Osmylidae) is described from the late Eocene of Florissant (U.S.A., Colorado). It is assigned to the subfamily Protosmylinae based on the presence of two venational features characteristic of the subfamily: most crossveins in the radial to intramedial spaces of the forewing are arranged in four gradate series, and CuP is short and simple or forked only once in the hind wing. This genus is remarkable by CuP in the forewing bearing few pectinate branches. This is the only genus of extant and Cenozoic fossil Osmylidae in which this plesiomorphic condition is retained.
