Abstract:
The focus of the present thesis is the circuit-level implementation of an excess loop delay compensation scheme which optimizes excess loop delay in Analog-to-Digital Converter(ADC) by using a programmable delay block and synchronizes the signal passing through Dynamic Element Matching block, used to mitigate mismatch effects of multi-bit Digital-to-Analog Converter(DAC). The proposed delay block has tuning range of T/10 to T/2 seconds, with a step size of T/30 seconds, where T is the time period (1.25 nanoseconds) of sampling signal (800 MHz) in high IF (200 MHz) Bandpass [sigma delta] ADC. The implementation details of the element rotation scheme used to calibrate the multi-bit DAC static error mismatch are also presented. Also presented is the design of high frequency highly linear Operational Transconductance Amplifier(OTA) targeted for continuous-time filters in a high resolution High Intermediate Frequency (200 MHz) Bandpass [sigma delta] ADC for Software Radio applications. Proposed OTA uses super source follower input stage to enhance its voltage-to-current conversion linearity. The design has been simulated using TSMC 0.18 μm CMOS process. The OTA has small signal transconductance of 0.9 mA/V, IM3 below -79 dB (for 0.3 Vpp input), Signal-to-Noise Ratio of 82 dB and power consumption of 6.8 mW, when tested in unity gain configuration.

Abstract:
This dissertation presents the design and implementation of a 16-channel sinusoidal generator to stimulate microfluidic devices that use electrokinetic forces to manipulate particles. The generator has both, independent frequency and independent amplitude control for each channel. The stimulation system is based upon a CMOS application specific (ASIC) device developed using 0.35¦Ìm technology. Several generator techniques were compared based on frequency range, total harmonic distortion (THD), and on-chip area. The best alternative for the microfluidic applications is based in a triangle-to-sine converter and presents a frequency range of 8kHz to 21MHz, an output voltage range of 0V to 3.1VPP, and a maximum THD of 5.11%. The fabricated device, has a foot- print of 1560¦Ìm¡Á2030¦Ìm. The amplitude of the outputs is extended using an interface card, achieving voltages of 0V to 15VPP. The generator functionality was tested by performing an experimental set-up with particle trapping. The set-up consisted of a micromachined channel with embedded electrodes configured as two electrical ports located at different positions along the channel. By choosing specific amplitude and frequency values from the generator, different particles suspended in a fluid were simultaneously trapped at different ports. The multichannel stimulator presented here can be used in many microfluidic experiments and devices where particle trapping, separation and characterization is desired

Abstract:
Networked systems, such as cloud infrastructures, are growing in size and complexity.They hold and generate a vast amount of configuration and operational data, whichis maintained in various locations and formats, and changes at various time scales.A wide range of protocols and technologies is used to access this data for networkmanagement tasks. A concept called ‘network search’ is introduced to make all thisdata available in real-time through a search platform with a uniform interface, whichenables location-independent access through search queries. Network search requires a network of search nodes, where the nodes have identicalcapabilities and work cooperatively to process search queries in a peer-to-peer fashion.A search node should indicate good performance results in terms of low query responsetimes, high throughputs, and low overhead costs and should scale to large networkedsystems with at least hundred thousands nodes. This thesis contributes in several aspects towards the design and implementation of anetwork search node. We designed a search node that includes three major components,namely, a real-time data sensing component, a real-time database, and a distributedquery-processing component. The design takes indexing of search terms and concurrencyof query processing into consideration, which accounts for fast response timesand high throughput of search queries. We implemented a network search node as asoftware package that runs on a server that provides a cloud service, and we evaluatedits performance on a cloud testbed of nine servers. The performance measurementssuggest that a network search system based on our design can process queries at lowquery latencies for a high query load, while maintaining a low overhead of computationalresources.

Hardware architecture and design details of a multi-channel GPS signal simulator with highly flexibility is presented, while the dynamic performance objectives and the requirements on the hardware architecture are discussed. The IF part of the simulator is implemented almost entirely in the digital domain by use of a field programmable gate array (FPGA), which mainly include C/A code generators, carrier generators, spreaders, and BPSK modulators. The results of testing the proposed simulator hardware architecture at IF with the help of a GPS receiver are presented.

Abstract:
Introduction: Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is a fat-soluble substance (ubiquinone) which has a bright orange color in appearance and is widely distributed (ubiquitous) in animals and many bacteria. CoQ10’s presence is most prevalent in mitochondria and it is involved in aerobic cellular respiration and aides in converting ingested nutrients into a readily accessible form of energy, specifically ATP (adenosine triphosphate). CoQ10 is supplied through our diets and can be found more in dark leafy green vegetables, fish and organ meats. CoQ10 supplementation should be beneficial due to its characteristic antioxidant scavenging of free radicals that our body produces while in the cellular respiration process for generating energy from nutrients. Although CoQ10 has great antioxidant benefit, a challenge remains for supplement manufacturers to deliver a sufficient does of this sparingly soluble molecule. Dietary supplements do not have the significant FDA oversight that exists for legend drugs, resulting in significant variability within and between brands. The main hypothesis of this project is that commercially available CoQ10 supplements don’t deliver a sufficient mass of CoQ10 when compared to the labelled quantity. Methods: To test this hypothesis, the group purchased and tested 14 commercially available CoQ10 supplements with each serving containing 100 mg of active, choosing a variety of drug delivery systems (DDS) and also included one in-house product, which contained 70 mg of active. The DDSs examined consisted of 7 soft shell gelatin (SSG) capsules (the most common type available), 3 hard shell gelatin (HSG) capsules, 3 tablets (tab), 1 powder, and 1 suspension. Each DDS was placed into a 500 mL volumetric flask (VF) into an aqueous of 0.1 N HCl acid and 0.1% Tween 80, using a standard FDA dissolution method. To facilitate drug release, the contents were removed from the HSG capsules; the SSG capsules were perforated; and the tabs were broken/crushed. After this, a magnetic stir bar was placed into each flask and all DDS samples were vigorously stirred for 30-45 minutes, including being inverted every 10 minutes to further facilitate dissolution of CoQ10 from each DDS. Filtered samples were obtained and the samples were analyzed by a reverse-phase High Performance Liquid Chromatography that was previously developed by this research group. Results and Conclusions: Only two of the 15 products evaluated had significant availability (mean > 50%) of CoQ10; one soft gelatin capsule (Product A, dissolved a mean of 68.57%), and the suspension (Product K, dissolved a mean of 56.71%). All of the other products averaged less than 4% dissolution of the labelled amount (range of values 0.19% to 3.64%). The in-house formulated HSG capsule (Product Q) released a mean amount equal to 8.11% of label (more than twice the percentage of the poorly performing commercial products). The consistency of the products was also variable, with product A having a range of 1.7 to 192 mg of CoQ10 released; Product K had a range of 35.8 to 76.1 mg of drug released. The group concluded that there are acceptable products available, but that most have significant performance issues.

This thesis deals with the theoretical description of the qualitative characteristics and parameters of some modern active elements, also discusses the theory of signal flow graphs at the level applicable for the following frequency filter design methods. The thesis is also generally discussed the issue with the circuit simulator PSpice modeling theory and voltage amplifiers on the basic 6-levels. The practical part of the work is divided into two parts. The first practical part is dedicated to design four levels of simulation model of components LNVGA element. The second practical part contains detailed theoretical proposals for three circuit structures implementing the frequency filters 2nd order (based on the basic structure of the OTA-C) using signal flow graphs with configuration options of Q and fm based on the parameters of active elements in the peripheral structure and their verification with prepared LNVGA model layers.

Abstract:
To use the image of the retina for biometric or medical purposes, it is necessary that the image is of the highest quality and ideally covers the largest possible area. It is therefore necessary to move the sensing device to the most suitable position while ensuring its stability. A laboratory handling platform is used for this purpose. The platform is moved by stepper motors. A control board equipped with a microcontroller has been developed for their control, which allows very fine movements. The theoretical accuracy of the manipulator is up to 20 nm. Since it is necessary for sensing, to have proper retina illumination, the control system also includes adjustable illumination elements in the infrared and visible spectrum. The resulting system allows scanning of the retina of the eye from multiple angles and thereby effectively increase the area on which it is possible to further look for diseases or biometric features.

O experimento conduzido na Fazenda Rancho Santa Zelina, em Júlio de Castilhos, RS, entre julho de 2014 a setembro de 2015, analisou o desempenho reprodutivo de 42 vacas mestiças Angus primíparas aos 24/25 meses de idade postas no pós-parto em pastagem cultivada de aveia (Avena strigosa Schreb) e azevém (Lolium multiflorum Lam.). Aos 80 dias pós-parto foram distribuídas conforme peso (PC) e escore de condição corporal (ECC) em dois sistemas alimentares: SS – mantidas por 23 dias na pastagem cultivada e sete dias em pastagem natural; CS – mantidas por 23 dias na pastagem cultivada e sete dias em pastagem natural com a suplementação diária de 0,8% do PC de suplemento contendo 14% proteína bruta (PB) e 70% de nutrientes digestíveis totais (NDT). O método de pastoreio foi o contínuo com massa de forragem (MF) média de 1450 kg/ha de matéria seca (MS) em pastagem cultivada e 2150 kg/ha/MS em pastagem natural. O delineamento experimental foi o inteiramente casualizado, com dois sistemas alimentares e vinte e uma vacas por sistema alimentar, sendo cada vaca considerada uma unidade experimental. Para comparar os sistemas alimentares, as variáveis que apresentaram normalidade foram avaliadas utilizando o procedimento MIXED do SAS. A variável taxa de prenhez foi avaliada pelo teste do qui-quadrado. A suplementação não influenciou o peso (PCFT) e condição corporal final (ECCFT) das vacas, porém a variação de peso diária média das vacas do CS foi superior a das em SS durante os sistemas alimentares (0,465 kg e 0,227 kg, respectivamente). Os bezerros do CS nesse período apresentaram maior ganho médio diário, 0,829 kg comparado com aqueles do SS de 0,644 kg e maior peso final (130,86 kg e 117,29 kg, respectivamente). As vacas do CS tiveram a significativa maior taxa de prenhez de 80,95%, enquanto as do SS tiveram 57,14%. Aos 42 dias de acasalamento 80,95% das vacas do CS estavam prenhes, enquanto do SS apenas 28,57% já tinham concebido. Vacas primíparas aos 24 meses de idade e que irão conceber têm maior peso e escore de condição corporal ao início do acasalamento do que as futuras falhadas.
The experiment was conducted at the Farm Rancho Santa Zelina in Julio de Castilhos, RS, from July 2014 to September 2015, examined the reproductive performance of 42 crossbred cows Angus gilts to 24/25 months old put postpartum in cultivated pasture oat (Avena strigosa Schreb) and ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.). After 80 days postpartum were distributed as weight (BW) and body condition score (BCS) in two food systems:SS – 23 days in a cultivated pasture (Avena strigosa Schreb. e Lolium multiflorum Lam.) and 7 days in a natural grassland; CS – 23 days in the same cultivated pasture and 7 days in a natural grassland receiving 0,8% BW supplement with 14% crude protein (CP) and 70% total digestible nutrients (TDN). The grazing method was continuous with herbage mass (MF) average of 1450 kg/ha of dry matter (DM) in cultivated pasture and 2150 kg/ha/DM in natural pasture. Treatments were arranged in a completely randomized design with two food systems and twenty-one cows for feeding system, where each cow was considered an experimental unit. To compare the food systems, variables with normal distribuition were assessed using the SAS MIXED procedure. The pregnancy rate was evaluated using the chi-square test. Supplementation did not affect cows‟ final body weight (FBW) and final body condition (FBC), but the daily average weight variation of cows in CS was higher than in SS (0.465 kg and 0.227 kg, respectively). The CS calves this period had higher average daily gain, 0.829 kg compared to those of the SS 0.644 kg and higher final weight (130.86 kg and 117.29 kg, respectively). The 80.95% pregnancy rate of the CS cows was higher than the 57.14 % of SS cows. After 42 days of mating, 80.95% of the CS primiparous cows had conceived, against just 28.57% from the SS. Primiparous cows at 24/25 months old and that will get pregnant have higher BW and BCS at beginning of the mating than the open ones.

GDPR är ett begrepp som handlar om hur personuppgifter hanteras av företag. I denna studie undersöks olika lösningar som företag har valt att använda för att informera användare om att deras data samlas in samt hur den hanteras på deras webbplatser. Med hjälp av frågeformulär skapas en bild av vad för kunskap och vilka känslor användare har angående ämnet. Genom att observera användare när de interagerar med olika GDPR-lösningar skapas kunskap om vilka lösningar som fungerar och vilka som inte gör det. Testdeltagare fick även möjlighet att använda sig av en önskvärdhetsmatris när de hade interagerat med de olika GDPR-lösningarna för att kunna uttrycka sin upplevelse med passande adjektiv. Resultatet från denna studie visade att det finns en allmänt negativ inställning till befintliga GDPR-lösningar. Det skapades även en uppfattning om varför användare har en negativ inställning. Från denna kunskap kunde olika faktorer identifieras som kan påverka UX i en GDPR-lösning. Dessa faktorer kunde sedan användas för att skapa en GDPR-lösning som prioriterar UX.

Um dos desafios importantes nas organizações de engenharia é lidar com o crescente nível de complexidade dos seus projetos, aliado à imersão da indústria da construção em um fraco cenário econômico e comercial nos últimos anos. A situação obriga as empresas a reverem a organização dos seus macroprocessos, simplificando-os a partir de uma melhor distribuição de tarefas, reduzindo custos e, adaptando, consequentemente, seus padrões de construtibilidade à nova realidade. Na mesma linha de tempo surge o segundo cenário, advindo da inserção da gestão do conhecimento na ISO 9001:2015. Além de estimular a participação dos empregados, mobilizando-os na construção de soluções práticas, a gestão do conhecimento busca o desenvolvimento de processos mais equilibrados, que proporcionem uma construção eficiente e de baixo custo, ao mesmo tempo em que são fomentadas e sistematizadas as atividades de criação, armazenagem, transferência e reuso de conhecimento. Em função disso o objetivo central da pesquisa está pautado na concepção de artefatos que priorizem a produção e incorporação de conhecimento local, levando-se em consideração as particularidades do cliente, os riscos, disponibilidade de recursos, região e cultura de mão de obra, e minimize o problema permitindo uma articulação mais fluida e dinâmica entre pessoas, processos e sistemas. Considerando que se trata de uma pesquisa de engenharia, procurou-se utilizar de um método investigativo que se aproximasse da realidade das empresas de construção e montagem, optando assim pela Design Science Research. A metodologia sustentou o estudo de caso em uma empresa de grande porte que lidera o segmento no Brasil. Pelo método foram gerados quatro artefatos, avaliados e validados quanto ao rigor e aplicação. A pesquisa se beneficiou da convergência oportuna entre a metodologia, o contexto de uma empresa de engenharia, em um quadro de mudança regulatória da norma ISO 9001:2015. Encontrar e explorar essa convergência em benefício da empresa, mas com perspectivas de generalização dos seus resultados foi a contribuição mais relevante que o presente trabalho realizou.
One of the most important challenges in engineering organizations is to deal with the growing level of complexity of their projects, combined with the immersion of the construction industry in a weak economic and commercial scene in recent years. The situation forces companies to review their macro processes’ organization, simplifying them onwards to a better distribution of tasks, reducing costs and consequently adapting its constructability standards to the new reality. In the same timeline emerges a second scenario, resulting from integration of knowledge management in the ISO 9001: 2015. Besides encouraging the participation of employees, mobilizing them to build practical solutions, the knowledge management also seeks to develop more balanced processes that provide an efficient and low-cost construction, at the same time that creation activities, storage, transfer and reuse of knowledge are encouraged and systematized. Based on this, the central objective of the research is lined on the design of artifacts that prioritize the production and incorporation of local knowledge, taking into account customer particularities, risks, availability of resources, region and labor culture, and minimize the problem allowing a more fluid articulation and dynamics between people, processes and systems. Whereas it is an engineering research, it was aimed to use an investigative method to approach the reality of construction and assembly companies, thus opting for Design Science Research. The methodology supported the case study in a large company that leads the industry in Brazil. By the method were generated four artifacts, assessed and validated as to the accuracy and application. The research has benefited from timely convergence of the methodology, the context of an engineering company in a regulatory change ISO 9001: 2015 context. The most important contribution this work accomplished was to find and exploit this convergence for the benefit of the company, but with generalization prospects of its results.

Even though there are many software development and project management methodologies available, research and practice both show that IT software development projects still fail, and that the quality of software products does not always meet customers' expectations. There might be multiple causes for such failures, but some of these reasons can be seen to influence or create others. Therefore, the larger the project is, the higher its risk of failure, especially if the teams involved work remotely (distributed and outsourced). This increase in project complexity is considered the motivation for this paper. Similarly, there are other factors that can result in a project's failure and customers' dissatisfaction regarding software quality. All such factors identified by research conducted by organizations specializing in this area are analyzed in order to identify a common root of IT project failures. Once the root causes of these failures have been identified and analyzed, the goal of the Interface based software development methodology is to solve them. The solution offered by an Interface based software development methodology is to improve understanding of software requirements and to describe these requirements with interfaces in an object-oriented way. Interface based software development will support and drive development towards service-oriented architecture (SOA) and component-based development (CBD). The goal of interface based software development is to increase software testability and maintainability and to make it more easily feasible to execute various software development processes in parallel.

Final master thesis comprises role modeling aspects in various software development processes and methods. The analysis is made in the context of object-oriented programming evolution. The survey is made on miscellaneous assumptions related to explicit role modeling and separation of system state and behaviour concerns in software development. The parts of software development process which have a lack of role modeling techniques are identified in this thesis. The suggestions of solutions to classic object-oriented programming behaviour modeling problems for software construction phase are made. Finally, the recommendations related to role modeling for software development process modification are made to support all the development phases.

The university technology transfer coach has an important role in supporting the commercialization of research results. This thesis has studied the technology transfer coach and their needs in the coaching process. The goal has been to investigate information needs of the technology transfer coach as a preliminary for the design of computer aids.Using a grounded theory approach, we interviewed 17 coaches working in the Swedish technology transfer environment. Extracted quotes from interviews were openly coded and categorized. The analysis show three main problem areas related to the information needs of the technology transfer coach; awareness, communication, and resources. Moreover, 20 features for future computer aids were extracted from the interview data and scenarios and personas where developed to exemplify the future use of computer aids.We conclude that there is a need for computer support in the coaching process. Such systems should aid the coach in; awareness, aiding the coach to focus on meetings; communication, aid the coach to transfer commercialisation knowledge; and resources, aid the coach in accessing and delivering of resources to the coachee. However, it is imperative that the computer aids do not interfere with the coach current process; and that the computer aid is not seen as the sole solution.

Architectural transparency, achieved through choice of materials and principles of formal composition, creates a diversity of relationships and can facilitate visual, conceptual, and functional clarity as well as offering simultaneous perception of different spaces. It offers a range of phenomenological qualities and so provides an opportunity to explore and complicate such dichotomies as translucency and opacity, openness and closure, and public space and private space. While celebrated throughout modern and contemporary architecture, transparency raises issues of privacy and safety even as it breaks down hierarchies and social boundaries. The research-based design of transparency in a school building necessitates careful planning to achieve a balance between the access to views, natural light, fresh air, and social interaction that transparency may bring and the continuing obligation to provide a safe, secure environment for schoolchildren.

Abstract This thesis addresses the structural generation, analysis and synthesis of multiple loop feedback voltage-mode and current-mode operational transconductance amplifier and grounded capacitor (OTA-C, Gm-C) filters. A number of arbitrary order architectures including canonical realizations are developed. A general method for sensitivity analysis of the structures is also formulated. According to the sensitivity approach, we study the testability of OTA-C filters in the frequency domain by introducing the analog fault observability concept. The proposed methodology indicates the set of adequate test frequencies and test nodes to increase fault observability. A design for testability (DFT) approach to improve the controllability and observability of internal signals in the multi-stage OTA-C filters is also presented. The proposed DFT approach is effective in detecting single and multiple faults. Finally, a novel built-in self-test (BIST) structure based on OTA-Cs for the fault diagnosis of analog circuits is proposed. The proposed analog BIST structure can be used to increase the number of test points, sampling and controlling of all test points with voltage data, and making less time for test signal observable. The physical layouts, simulation results and experimental measurements are also presented to confirm the theoretical analysis.

Abstract This thesis addressed a systematic design procedure of LC ladder filters by using operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs) and capacitors, which can provide simple design flows for higher order filter design. From the view of achieving high reliability in integrated circuits (ICs) designs, a design for testability (DFT) approach which improves the controllability and observability is incorporated herein. This thesis also introduces the sensitivity analysis for the sake of presenting the DFT approach completely. The sensitivity analysis exhibits the set of adequate test frequencies and provides the useful information about analyzing the testability, improving the observability, and planning a suitable test strategy of circuit under test (CUT). The proposed DFT approach is effective in detecting circuit faults and succeeds to achieve the fault isolation. Furthermore, this thesis permits simpler design flows, lower area overhead and higher fault coverage. The physical layouts and simulated results are also presented to confirm the theoretical analysis.

In this thesis, we use the no-capacitor feed-forward (NCFF) compensation scheme which employs a feed-forward path to obtain high gain, high frequency. We use CMFB circuit to adjust the common-mode output voltages and the bias circuit. The CMFB circuit makes the output accurately to the reference voltage. The circuit was designed and fabricated TSMC 0.35 μm CMOS process. The dc gain is around 90dB and the cut-off frequency is 1GHz. The supply voltage is ±1.25V. The output voltage is smaller than 10mV.

Two novel current-mode filter circuits with simpler configurations are presented in this paper. The first circuit employs only two plus-type second-generation current conveyor (CCII+s), two capacitors and two resistors to realize a universal current-mode biquad filter circuit with four inputs and two outputs(note that it can be the superposition of two universal current-mode biquad filters with three inputs and one output). The proposed circuit offers the following advantageous features : two universal outputs, each of which can realize lowpass, bandpass, highpass, notch, allpass signals from the same configuration, employment of only two CCII+s, only two capacitors and only two resistors, low sensitivity performance and high output impedance . The second circuit employs the minimum components, only two operational transconductance amplifiers(OTAs) and two grounded capacitors, to realize a universal current-mode OTA-C biquad filter with three inputs and four outputs(note that it can also realize a universal current-mode OTA-C biquad filter with three inputs and one output). The proposed circuit offers the following advantageous features : realization of lowpass, bandpass, highpass, notch and allpass signals from the same configuration, employment of two grounded capacitors ideal for integration and low sensitivity performance. Finally, we verify the feasibility and accuracy of the proposed circuits by using Pspice simulation. The simulation results agree very well with the theoretical predictions.

In this thesis, we propose a novel current-mode method for the error detection and fault diagnosis of OTA-C filters. Bas e on the state equation of the filter, a modified state equa tion is driven. With this modified state equation, a concurr ent error detection and fault diagnosis test circuit is desi gned. The test circuit consists two parts: one is a voltage to current converter, the other is a current comparator. Th is means that the test circuit gets voltages and currents fro m the filter. The voltages are then converted to current and compared with the currents obtained from the filter. Some simplification rules of test circuitareproposed to reduce the area overhead. The scan conceptis used to do fault diagnosis. Our design has the fol lowing characteristics:(1) easy to design and implement in m onolithicform, (2) high error detection speed, (3) test circ uit has little impact on the circuit performance of the filter, little area and pin number overhead, (5) actual signal rather than signalgenerated specifically for testing can be used , and (6) test canbe applied at full operating speed. This OTA-C filter with test circuitry has been realized by the UMC-0.8um DPDM CMOS technology. The area overhead is about 38%.

This thesis is an exploration into the design of configurable analog block (CAB) for field programmable analog arrays (FPAAs) designed in modern complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technologies. Specifically, this thesis develops a single configurable analog block (CAB) using an operational transconductance amplifier (OTA). A fully differential OTA is selected for its flexibility and the reliability of differential signals with respect to noise when compared to single-ended signals. The OTA is combined with a set of switches, controlled by a serial shift register, to allow for reconfiguration of the internal wiring, and two capacitor arrays used to fine-tune the frequency response of the circuit. Simulation results are provided for an OTA, the OTA operating in situ, and a band-pass filter, thus demonstrating the use of the CAB. A single CAB is constructed on a 0.13 µm CMOS chip.

The major research of this thesis is to implement new fully differential voltage and current mode high-frequency third-order operational transconductance amplifier-capacitor low-pass filters. These proposed filters use linear transformation to synthesize and change to fully differential architectures. The low sensitivity characteristics of passive filters are also hold and cancel out interference of noise. These efficient design tables can get less component of active filters. Operational transconductance amplifiers use complementary differential pairs to achieve low distortion and high frequency. Exploit on operational transconductance amplifier common mode feedback to improve stability. Using TSMC 0.18 m process, not only have advantages of low voltage and low power, but also less area and simple circuits to obtain high frequency range. Our simulation results meet with specifications. Finally, the voltage-mode third-order Butterworth low-pass filter with 200MHz bandwidth, total harmonic distortion was -43dB at 0.5V peak to peak for 200MHz input signal, power dissipation was 9.7693mW, and core area was 0.186mm*0.188mm. The current-mode third-order Butterworth low-pass filter with 200MHz bandwidth, total harmonic distortion was -46.5dB at 0.4mA peak to peak for 200MHz input signal, power dissipation was 16.773mW, and core area was 0.163mm*0.186mm.

Recent advances in analog integrated circuit and signal processing have shown that the current-mode approach is superior to the voltage-mode in terms of its wide bandwidth, high speed, low voltage and power. As a wide range of voltage-mode analogue circuits already exist, a straightforward method of converting these voltage-mode circuits to current-mode circuits would be very useful. The network transposition, introduced by Bhattacharyya and Swamy as early as in 1971, provides a perfect solution to this question of conversion from voltage-mode to current-mode circuits. A vast body of literature already exists concerning voltage-mode OTA-C filter structures. At the same time, many current-mode OTA-C filter structures are being reported in the literature. These two apparently independent areas of research and development could be unified by the application of the principle of network transposition. For this reason, an intensive investigation on the OTA-C structures is conducted. The result of this investigation shows that transposition relationship could be used to advantage in deriving current-mode filter structures from the voltage-mode filter structures and vice versa. The principle of transposition has been extended to oscillator circuits to derive new OTA-C oscillator structures from known ones. The concept of transposition has been extended to differential input dual-output (DIDO) structures, since such structures can increase the common-mode rejection ratio, eliminate the even-order harmonic distortion components and reduce the effects of power supply noise. The theoretical work presented in the thesis is verified by simulation results as well as by practical circuits using discrete resistors, capacitors and OTA devices. In addition, an oscillator is fabricated in a 0.18 om CMOS process to further verify the validity of network transposition. The measurement result shows good agreement with the theoretical analysis.

In recent one and a half decades, the current-mode circuit is proved to be much more precise than its voltage-mode counter part. Since the transconductance of an operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) and the inner intrinsic resistance at terminal x of a second-generation current controlled conveyor (CCCII) are electronically adjusted by the internal bias current, no resistors in the OTA-C or CCCII-C circuit become an important advantage in the active filter design. In the thesis, the current-mode high order OTA-C and CCCII-C MISOC (multi-input single-output circuit) structures are presented. The least number of active and passive elements, N, for n-th order filters is used in the design. Because all of the active and passive elements are grounded, it is attractive for integration and reduces the effect of parasitic capacitors. In the beginning, two powerful active elements, CCCIIs and OTAs, are introduced. Two circuit design approaches, signal-flow-graph and the use of building block, are used in the thesis. Then a multi-input and single-output circuit structure is successfully developed to realize the current-mode high-order universal (i.e., high-pass, low-pass, band-pass, band-reject and all-pass) filters. The proposed filter structure is implemented by the OTA-C or CCCII-C circuits. H-Spice simulation with TSMC025 parameter process validates the theory predictions for both OTA-C and CCCII-C circuit implementations, although the former is more precise in high frequency performance than the latter.

There is a growing interest of high order filter designs in recent ten years. In this thesis, using signal flow chart, a new current mode nth-order universal (namely, low-pass, band-pass, high-pass, notch, all-pass) filter structure with double inputs and multiple outputs is proposed. Base upon this configuration, it would have the possessions of using the minimum active (Operational Transconductance Amplifier: OTA or Current-controlled Current Conveyor: CCCⅡ) and passive (Capacitors) components, as well as realizing all filtering functions without changing this configuration. Furthermore, the employment of single–input OTAs and grounded capacitors lead to good high-frequency operations under low supply voltages. The comparisons between two different types, one is using OTAs and capacitors or (OTA-C) while the other is using CCCⅡs and capacitors or (CCCⅡ-C), are presented by using H-spice simulations, with TSMC025 process and ±1.25V supply voltages, which validate good filtering, small noise and low sensitivity performances.

Abstract Recently, the circuits designed by employing active current-mode elements have presented continuously. Because, it has been verified that the advantages of higher signal bandwidths, greater linearity, larger dynamic range, less power dissipation and simpler circuit structure. On the design of the biquadratic filters, the methods adopted in this paper all begin with the relationship of the matrix equation, through the variation of the elements of the admittance matrix, we can get the desired transfer function. In this thesis, we use four kinds of active current-mode elements:VF、CF、OA and OTA, to realize the circuits by using the Nullor synthesis and equivalence techniques. We use the method to design two biquadratic filters, which are: (Ⅰ) We proposed a current-mode filter with three input and one outputs using the voltage follower and current follower which are with low tracking errors. The proposed circuit offers the following advantageous features: (1) The circuit employs only two dual-output CFs、one single-output CF、two VFs、two resistors and two grounded capacitors. So the proposed circuits offer the following advantageous features: use fewer active and passive components, suit for integration. (2) Dependant tunability of ω and ω /Q. (3) Realization of lowpass, bandpass, highpass, notch and allpass signals from the same configuration. (4) Low active and passive sensitivities. (Ⅱ) We proposed a current-mode filter with three input and one outputs using the OA and OTA. Because the OA can instead of passive components-capacitors、the OTA can instead of passive components- resistors, so have no any passive component in the circuit. The proposed circuit offers the following advantageous features: (1)Control the parameters ω and Q by current-signal. (2)The circuit employs only two dual-output OTAs、one single-output OTA and OAs. So the proposed circuits offer the following advantageous features: use fewer active and passive components, suit for integration. (3)Dependant tunability of ω and ω /Q. (4)Realization of lowpass, bandpass, highpass, notch and allpass signals from the same configuration. (5) Low active and passive sensitivities. (6)Variability of temperature is senseless. In this paper, we use the IC AD741、AD844 and LM13600N by Design Center 8.0 to simulate. The results of simulations are obtained to confirm the performance.

A synthesis method of high-order voltage-mode all-pass filters is proposed in this thesis. Using (n+2) Second-Generation Current Controlled Conveyors (CCCIIs) and n grounded capacitors to synthesize high-order all-pass filters is presented first. The operational Transconductance Amplifiers and Capacitors (OTA-C) implementation is also obtained from the CCCII-C implementation by using a succession of nullator-norator transformation equivalences. The synthesized all-pass filters simultaneously enjoy the following three important criteria:(i) the least number of active and passive components, (ii) the single-input active elements, and (iii) grounded capacitors. HSPICE simulation with TSMC025 LEVEL49 parameters validate the theory predictions.

Abstract The voltage-mode high-order universal filter structure using linear combination approach has been studied ing this thesis [7-20]. A fundamental high-order multi-function ( lowpass , bandpass, and highpass ) filter structure is realized first. Different order output signals can be obtained from different nodes in the fundarnental filter structure. Therefore, the linear combination of the output signals of the fundamental filter structure maker any kinds of filtering functions. The synthesize voltage-mode high-order universal filter structure employs 2n+4 single-input active elements and n grounded capacitors. The second-generation current controlled conveyors (CCCII) with electronically tunable inner resistance and used in the design. Using nullator-and norator equivalent transformationk, the CCCII-based filter structure can be transformed into the operational Transconductance Amplifier based filter structure. Note that the transconductance of an OTA is also adjustable by the bias current. H-Spice simulations are used for carrying out the comparison between CCCII-absed and OTA-based filter structures in terms of filtering performance, noise, and sensitivity analysis. Simulation results validate the theory predictons

Abstract In the thesis, we proposed a voltage-mode high-order lowpass, bandpass, and highpass by using the second-generation current controlled conveyors (CCCIIs). The lowpass, bandpass, and highpass signals can be obtained from different three nodes in the synthesized network topology. Only n+2 active elements and n grounded capacitors are the simplest structure to realize such an nth-order multi-function filter . Using nullator-and-norator equivalent transfor- -mations , the CCCII-based filter structure can be transformed to the Operational Transconductance Amplifier (OTA)-based filter structure . The simulation comparison between CCCII-based and OTA-based filter structures has been done in terms of filter performance, noise, and sensitivity. Simulation results validate the theory predictions.

This thesis investigates the analog performance of the exploratory ultra-thin-body (UTB) III- V/Ge hetero-channel MOSFETs and the performance of 2-D transition-metal-dichalcogenide (TMD) and operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) composed of 2-D TMD MOSFETs. Furthermore, we also investigate the impact of WFV and LER for 2-D TMD OTA MOSFETs. 2-D layered TMD materials have emerged as promising channel materials for future ultimately-scaled CMOS devices due to the atomic-scale body thickness. We extensively evaluate the analog performance of monolayer and bilayer devices based on ITRS 2028 technology node. We indicate that bilayer devices have better analog performance than monolayer devices. We design the OTAs for monolayer TMD devices and bilayer TMD devices. Two designs with monolayer TMD devices and bilayer TMD devices are evaluated under three different biased conditions. The results indicate monolayer TMD OTA provides better gain, CMRR and PSRR than bilayer TMD OTA for all cases. Monolayer TMD OTA and bilayer TMD OTA at low bias has better gain than that at high bias or at moderate bias. Monolayer TMD OTA and bilayer TMD OTA at high/moderate bias has better CMRR and PSRR than that at low bias.

Abstract:
Future wireless communication devices must support multiple standards and features on a single-chip. The trend towards software-defined radio requires flexible and efficient RF building blocks which justifies the adoption of broadband receiver front-ends in modern and future communication systems. The broadband receiver front-end significantly reduces cost, area, pins, and power, and can process several signal channels simultaneously. This research is mainly focused on the analysis and realization of the broadband receiver architecture and its various building blocks (LNA, Active Balun-LNA, Mixer, and trans-impedance amplifier) for multi-standard applications. In the design of the mobile DTV tuner, a direct-conversion receiver architecture is adopted achieving low power, low cost, and high dynamic-range for DVB-H standard. The tuner integrates a single-ended RF variable gain amplifier (RFVGA), a current-mode passive mixer, and a combination of continuous and discrete-time baseband filter with built-in anti-aliasing. The proposed RFVGA achieves high dynamic-range and gain-insensitive input impedance matching performance. The current-mode passive mixer achieves high gain, low noise, and high linearity with low power supplies. A wideband common-gate LNA is presented that overcomes the fundamental trade-off between power and noise match without compromising its stability. The proposed architecture can achieve the minimum noise figure over the previously reported feedback amplifiers in common-gate configuration. The proposed architecture achieves broadband impedance matching, low noise, large gain, enhanced linearity, and wide bandwidth concurrently by employing an efficient and reliable dual negative-feedback. For the wideband Inductorless Balun-LNA, active single-to-differential architecture has been proposed without using any passive inductor on-chip which occupies a lot of silicon area. The proposed Balun-LNA features lower power, wider bandwidth, and better gain and phase balance than previously reported architectures of the same kind. A surface acoustic wave (SAW)-less direct conversion receiver targeted for multistandard applications is proposed and fabricated with TSMC 0.13?m complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology. The target is to design a wideband SAW-less direct coversion receiver with a single low noise transconductor and current-mode passive mixer with trans-impedance amplifier utilizing feed-forward compensation. The innovations in the circuit and architecture improves the receiver dynamic range enabling highly linear direct-conversion CMOS front-end for a multi-standard receiver.

This thesis aims to design a CMOS bandgap voltage reference with a state-up circuit, but without using an operational amplifier. Typically, an operational amplifier was used in bandgap reference to have both great performance and stability. However, a disadvantage of high offset voltage degrades its performance, considerably moreover, an operational amplifier occupies more chip area. In order to overcome those problems, a CMOS bandgap reference without OPA was proposed in this paper, not only having good performance but also reducing the chip area. Furthermore, a start-up circuit and a gm-constant circus are used in the proposed bandgap reference, to realize a zero temperature coefficient, Notify that both temperature-independent voltage and current are provided simultaneously.
