Abstract:
Intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring is used for monitoring and mapping of neurological structures during surgery and procedures where the neurological structures are at risk. Among the most commonly used techniques are electrophysiologic techniques, which include spontaneous and evoked electromyography, somatosensory evoked potentials, motor evoked potentials, electroencephalography, and auditory brainstem responses. These methods differ in their responses to anesthesia and in their clinical contribution to monitoring because of differing anatomy. Their use in spinal corrective surgery

Abstract:
Intracranial pressure (ICP) measurement is an established monitoring modality in the ICU and can aid prognostication after acute brain injury. ICP monitoring is recommended in all patients with severe traumatic brain injury (TBI), and an abnormal cranial computed tomographic (CT) scan and the ability to control ICP is associated with improved outcome after TBI. The lessons from TBI studies can also be applied to other acute pathologies of the central nervous system where ICP can be increased. ICP measurement can warn of impending disaster and allow intervention. Furthermore, measurement of ICP

This chapter explains why evaluating and monitoring non-communicable disease (NCD) policies or programmes is an essential part of the process of addressing NCDs. After defining these terms, this chapter reviews the three main types of evaluation: formative evaluation, process evaluation, and outcome evaluation. The chapter walks through the process of formulating an evaluation plan, discusses the challenge of identifying reliable and valid measures, and provides a checklist of issues to consider in choosing measures. It identifies important concepts to take into account when designing an evalu

Understanding how antimicrobial usage is monitored and reported is crucial when reading the literature on antimicrobial stewardship and assessing outcomes of local programmes. This chapter covers the methods used to monitor antimicrobial usage and the associated terminology, such as defined daily dose (DDD), average daily quantities (ADQs), and days of therapy (DOT), and gives and overview of usage monitoring in primary and secondary healthcare in the UK and beyond.
