Full textAt present, the key issue is that of energy transition, smart cities, connected objects, renewable energy... We wanted to create this dictionary in order to provide concrete answers to some challenges faced in this sector. The aim was to show some tools used by the translator or linguist to create a bilingual dictionary available online. Nevertheless, given the multitude of software in the market, we have decided to delimit the experimental phase. We opted for among other SDL Trados Studio 2011, Trados 7 Freelance, TermoStat, TerMine and Multiterm. The theories and books of renowned linguists, including Wüster, Gouadec or Nolet, inspired our thoughts. We also opted for a method that is both explanatory and experimental. Our corpus of 130 pages has allowed us to extract a total of over 3,000 terms on two different tools. Software proved to be restrictive depending on the volume of the project or even the editor of the Software. It turned out that the automation of the corpus analysis certainly helped to save time, but the choice of terms could be questioned. The English - French bilingual dictionary www.lexiterme.com is already available online although at this point, it is still a pilot version. Keywords: terminology, dictionary, database, corpus analysis, lexicography

Full textThis work is focused on the development of tools for quantum state engineering of non-classical state of light. Three different directions are studied, which when combined, lead to efficient and versatile protocols towards the generation of quantum states. Those states are produced by taking advantage of both descriptions of the light: the discrete and continuous variables of the light. The first direction consists in the réalisation of arbitrary superpositions of zero and two-photon Fock states with two indistinguishable single-photon states. This protocol permits, among others, to create superpositions of coherent states called Schrödinger cat states. An iteration of the protocol could allow the growth of the amplitude of the state. To realize such iteration, we increase the production rate of our basic resource, namely, the single photon. To do so, we implement two synchronous cavities allowing the increase of the peak power of the laser pulses, which ultimately enhanced the non-linear effect at the origin of the photon creation. The last direction aims to solve the problems related to the probabilistic nature of the photon creation. In order to store and extract the single photons on demand, a quantum memory is implemented. The storage of single and two-photon states has been experimentally realized. This setup could allow in the near future, by synchronizing the state stored in the cavity with the income of another photon, to create a cat state inside the cavity itself

Full textThe title of our thesis is Complex Systems, CAD tools and Nanotechnologies. It concerns the study of the techniques allowing to configure a circuit containing a very high number of very simple elements and inter-connected in a very complex network, in order to emulate natural or artificial complex systems. In this context we propose a platform of CAD tools which helps the implementation and the simulation of this type of systems. Initially, we implemented a first tool of this platform allowing to experiment by simulation the laws which govern the evolution of the target system. This simulation allows to validate or alter these laws before the implementation in the nanonetwork. Then, we use this tool to experiment on various complex systems, such as artificial ecosystems and systems of particles in which a relativistic space time geometry emerges, as a consequence of the type of laws of interactions of the particles

Full textPerceived as a complex adaptive system, public space could be examined through the means of complexity. In this thesis, we discuss the case of an urban park, Horch Beirut, aiming to showcase the contributions of the complexity approach to urban studies, both epistemological and methodological ones. Horsh Beirut makes up to 70% of green spaces in Beirut, but has been mostly closed to the public since the end of the Lebanese civil war in 1990. Surrounded by three culturally heterogeneous neighborhoods, the triangular park embodies both urban multiplicity and exclusion. The complexity approach not only offers a transdiciplinary scientific lexicon but also interdisciplinary modeling tools. To showcase these tools, we apply Systemic Triangulation for the urban diagnosis of Horch Beirut. This tool acknowledges the inscription of complex problems in structural, functional and dynamic continuums, establishing the relationships between them, and projecting interactions between the system and its environment. We also propose the Soft Systems Methodology tool for an interactive governance based on non-linear representations of urban reality. The complexity approach has provided us some new insights. First, addressing cities, and urban entities like Horsh Beirut, as complex systems could diverge our perception of fragmented linear solutions towards adaptive evolutionary processes. Secondly, chaos is not to be feared. In fact, by being on the edge of chaos complex systems adapt and co-evolve, consequently creativity is catalyzed and change emerges. Finally, and most importantly, a public space should not be designed, but encouraged to emerge. It would be better to induce its self-organization than to try to control it. Thus, a change of attitude is necessary: the role of urban actors, architects and urban planners, should be reoriented towards seeking the underlying dynamics of an urban system, establishing its emerging properties, and subsequently, determining and inducing its synergistic opportunities

Full textOur research is in the field of industrial engineering and it is positioned specifically in the design. The general purpose of this thesis is to integrate the immersive Virtual Reality as a tool of representation in the process of new products design to enhance the toolkit of the designer, to compare and analyze its influence by providing the tools of traditional (T) and digital (N) and to support the creation and communication of ideas used in Design. For these tools of T and N, we will analyze in particular drawing, mock-up and software for computer aided design (CAD). Our goal is to propose a method to help especially the two actors of design (the designer and the architect) to choose the best tool for representation during the design process. We show the usefulness of integrating Virtual Reality VR technology as a new approach to their work. The experiments conducted allow us to identify the relationship of VR in the design process. Thus, to show: - A positive influence of VR on the aesthetic evaluation (according to the vision of the designer) and technology (according to the vision of those involved in design) of new product. - A better understanding of the subject specialists by stakeholders (industry, policy makers ...) and non-experts (users, consumers ...). Our research offers a potential to broaden the application of VR in other projects and improve the tool through the birth of a number of applications available to the designer

Full textThis thesis concerns the environmental performance by firms. An empirical study was carried out among ISO 14001 certified firms. We identify four important points. ISO 14001 norms help firms to implement a strategy and an organization adapted to a context concerned by environment, and firms are forced to adopt environmental management control tools like green performance indicators and environmental budgets (1). The assimilation of these tools can generate differences in perception between players and there are less problems concerning green performance indicators than about environmental budgets (2). Environmental performance is carried out by environmental managers (3). It is necessary that accounting, control and audit professions move to give an account of environmental management performance to firms managers (4)

Full textThe objective of this thesis is to explain the decision of the selection of an IT tool, and to examine the influence of this decision on the satisfaction of the client companies. The selection decision results from a formal evaluation based on some criteria. Also, other internal and external forces influence this decision. To study these factors, the case of epurchasing tools is chosen. This choice is justified by the richness and dynamism of this market, the presence of starting new projects, and the heterogeneity of the results obtained. The qualities of the software editor, the tool and the services, as well as the total cost represent the main criteria of selection for the clients of e-purchasing. Besides, the expected advantages and the editor's tactics of influence are the other factors that have an impact on the decision. A content analysis of the web sites of editors is realized, to identify the arguments advanced in the marketing of their offer. Then, a questionnaire is developed, based on the literature review and the results of the exploratory content analysis. It is refined by a card sorting exercise and a pilot questionnaire for the e-purchasing editors. The final questionnaire is administered to the clients of e-purchasing. According to the results of this questionnaire, there is a difference between the opinions of editors and clients on the value of e-purchasing and the important features of tools and editors. Editors use three main tactics to influence the decision of their clients: arguments, demonstration and references. The effectiveness of each depends on the selection criteria favored by customers. Overall, the cost appears to be the main consideration of the e-purchasing clients, followed by the quality of the editor, services and tool. However, the results show that benefits obtained depend primarily on the quality of the tool and services; in particular on the emphasis of the user needs (usability and the user services) and the technical characteristics during the selection. There is a difference between the criteria which is given the most weight in the selection and the criteria that lead to the "realization of advantages", which proves to be a more relevant indicator than the satisfaction, for evaluating a selection decision in an organizational context

Full textSelf-sustained vibration drilling offers the technological breakthrough needed to increase the performance of deep drilling. A special tool holder is designed to allow axial vibration, and comes as a spring mass system, whose characteristics are identified by the use of the theory of stability lobes. Identification of the geometric characteristics of an optimal tool requires the characterization of tribological aspects, mechanical properties of the machined material, and the definition of a proper edge preparation. Finally, this process is driven by the energy of the cut, and two types of effort have been identified. The Edge-Material-Pair Method is based on the discretization of the drilling thrust force during penetration phase, while the analytical approach can predict forces from a cut pattern identified from oblique cutting tests

Full textIn 2016, the community « Civictech » (a word that describe a variety of actors) appears and pursues the ambition « to improve democracy » using digital tools. In France, our democracy is a representative democracy. So if we want to improve democracy, we act either on representativeness or on representation. The aim of this thesis was therefore to know if Civictech (and more generally digital) can have an impact on both, and in this way really improve democracy. In reality, we will realize that parliamentary democracy remains unsurpassed and that despite the current technological solutionism, the Internet and its participatory tools do not allow a better representativeness or representation, on the contrary. What we will also see in conclusion are the different tools that we could create to improve democracy (without necessarily changing the regime): Create new legal tools to protect the democratic functioning ; or to use of digital tools to facilitate the implementation of already existing legal tools. The approach proposes to feed on some foreign examples

Full textThrough the study of a needs assessment tool in eight associations of parents of people with intellectual disabilities, for five years, we investigated the place it takes in the construction of the sense of collective action. Inspired by Raymond Boudon's theory of ordinary rationality and Jacques Girin's work on language in organizations, we propose an original approach to the notion of institution, considered as a process of stabilization of a system of collective beliefs. We show that the institution is essentially a work of language and that management tools help to impoverish it. By structuring the activity that the instrument is supposed to equip, it contributes to reducing the discussions of the users and thus the construction of the sense of the collective action

Full textThe evolution of the prevention model for Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSD), together with the development of new technologies leads to the evolution of these tools. Our thesis work on the design of a digital MSD risk assessment tool is in this context. It aims to establish benchmarks for the design of future MSD risk’ assessment tools. The etiological models of MSDs have evolved in recent years towards more multifactoriality. For their part, MSD risk assessment tools seem to remain largely focused on an assessment of exposure to physical risk factors. The notion of instruments and that of instrumented action considers that the user of a tool rarely stays within the strict framework of the use intended by the designers. Our thesis work is structured around four studies. A first study offers a detailed analysis of 20 existing risk assessment tools for MSDs and the risk factors considered. In general, these results confirm the difficulty of these tools in grasping the multifactorial nature of the exhibitions. It therefore appears necessary to enrich these tools by considering a larger number of factors, as well as their interactions. A second study presents an analysis of the use of a MSD risk assessment tool by three different users on an industrial site. The MSD risk assessment tool used during the analysis offers a multifactorial look at the risk of MSD. Analysis of the use of MSD risk assessment tools in 29 work situations allowed us to establish design benchmarks for future MSD risk’ assessment tools. The results of this study allow us to establish that the MSD risk assessment mobilizes a set of tools beyond the only assessment tool for its realization. The third and fourth studies question the question of how the stages of MSD risk assessment interact with other enterprise instrument systems. We notably carried out the analysis of a restitution meeting of the result of an MSD risk assessment (study 3), and interviews with other industrial groups (study 4) to consolidate our data. The set of tools mobilized by the actors during the MSD risk assessment constitutes a system of instrument. This instrument system allows the user of the tool to take a first look at the operator's activity in the evaluated work situation. We will discuss the confusion caused by these practices between MSD risk assessment and ergonomic work analysis by asking the question of the impact of this confusion on MSD prevention

Full textContrary to digital design, analog design suffers from a real delay in the software solution that enables fast and reliable design. In this PhD, three approaches are proposed. The first is the methodological approach. At this level we recommend a "top-down" hierarchical approach. It consists of partitioning the system to size into sub-blocks of elementary functions whose specifications are directly inherited from the system level specification. Next, we aimed to reduce design time through the exploration of optimal solutions using hybrid algorithms. We attempted to take advantage of the rapid global search and local search accuracy. The interest of hybrid search algorithms is that they allow to conduct effective exploration of the design space of the circuit without the need for prior knowledge of an initial design. This can be very useful for a beginner designer. Finally, we worked on the acceleration of time simulations proposing the use of meta-models which present a more reduced time than electrical simulation models. Meta-models are obtained automatically from extracting results of electrical simulations

Full textWe conducted a development research in which were created two teaching sequences that aim at developing writing skills by integrating technological tools. The first sequence is themed around a promotional brochure and targets students of the first cycle of high school; the second sequence is built around the creation of a letter of motivation and aims students of the second cycle of high school. To create relevant sequences that are theoritically supported by didactical principles, we reviewed the litterature from a corpus of papers written mainly by French didacticians and from articles published in Repères and Pratiques, two reviews dedicated to French didactic. This corpus was made up of 50 papers written principally between 1995 and 2015 and were analyzed with the use of fact sheets. Special attention was given the functionalities of the selected technological tools - the software Antidote, the collaborative writing platforms Padlet and Google Documents - and to their contributions and limitations on teaching and learning how to write, as our goal consisted of proposing ways to integrate them in the teaching of writing. The presented teaching sequences are thus built around didactical principles and seek to give added value to those technological tools.

Full textThe observation of the difficulties encountered by students in understanding the logic of risk monitoring in a project was at the origin of this thesis. Interviews conducted within banks of the Centre region revealed differences in the levels of maturity in project management and in the appropriation phases. The appropriation of tools by those instrumental in organisation is therefore not self-evident. The aim of this thesis was to consider the psycho-cognitive and social approach to the usage of the tools. Usage of a tool was measured by the intensity of the frequency of its use. A questionnaire was sent out to project managers, members of different services and/or the steering committee within the Crédit Agricole bank. The theorisation of management tools, the dissonance theory and the technology acceptance theory were applied to study the relationship between the tool and its user. The study made it possible to conclude that those who use the tools the most frequently do not feel more obliged to use them than those who use them less often. The former also consider the tools to be easier and more suitable than the less frequent users, but they do not privilege certain types of tool. The originality of the thesis was to introduce the concept of social representation. Hypotheses based on the theory of creation of knowledge, cultural theories and social representation theories are put forward to explain the different usage of the tools. The conclusion was that professional culture has a marked effect on the use of risk management tools in projects

Full textThis thesis reports on an exploratory research about logic from practices and instrumentation within social networks for the employment of university graduates. This work aims at approaching in an original way, the recent emergence of academic social medias through a sociological perspective. The goal is to uncover the modes of coordination and cooperation logic of collective action. The research involves the theory of strategic actor and sociology of organized action. The protocol is based on the study of three cases of academic social networks, built on semi-structured interviews and non-participant observations. The interpretation brings out the logic of instrumentalization of practices and social network management tools. The results highlight practical DIY and compilation tools without apparent complementarity. These practices allow players to create an opacity on available resources and coordinate their activities. Regulation and coordination of collective action is seen through the existence of a concrete system of action. The results specify logics serving an umbrella partnership. For example, research shows that logics of instruments and practices’manipulation allow players to perform logics of shifts goals to exceed the initial purposes, maintain their power and preserve their margins of freedom

Full textThis study focuses on the use of digital technology for learning amongst adolescent high school students in the Malian socio-educational context. It seeks to understand how these learners use digital tools to carry out pedagogical activities inside and outside French as a second language classes and it questions the role of the tools in informal language learning within their school curriculum. An ethnographic study enabled us to observe a sample of adolescent high school students in four Bamako high schools, in the different social spaces in which they move on a daily basis: the high school and its different spaces, the family home and the “grin”. The “grin” is a word from Bambara (first national language in Mali), which describes both a group of friends of the same age and the different places where they meet one another. The study uses interviews, logbooks and the observation of situations in which digital tools are used, during which photographs were taken, to capture how each adolescent high school student puts together learning resources from the tools available in each context. The epistemological position comes from case thinking, which enabled us to reconstruct portraits of high school students from the situations in which they use digital tools. Each situation described is seen as being set in a particular social configuration where identities and interdependence relations are at stake. Thus we report how uses evolve according to place. The mobile phone was identified at the start of the study as being the main mediation tool for high school students’ digital practices in the Malian socio-economic context. The goal then was to consider how the mobile phone was imported into the classroom as a school phenomenon and thus to examine the school form of the pedagogical relationship, in light of the high school students’ uses identified during didactic interaction. Thus, interviews were conducted with French teachers during their lessons and with senior school authority members in order to determine how they appropriate this phenomenon, what significance they attribute to it and how it impacts on the power and knowledge relations, which are at the foundation of the school educational relationship. The interviews were analysed from the standpoint of Critical Discourse Analysis. The results reveal tensions which emerge around the pedagogical uses of the mobile phone between, on the one hand, the teacher and his/her students and, on the other hand, between the teacher and the school authority. In view of these tensions, pedagogical suggestions are offered so that teachers can re-appropriate mobile digital tools brought into the classroom by students

Full textIn this thesis, we put a library for analysis in the Coq proof assistant to the test through a case study in control theory. We formalise a proof of stability for the inverted pendulum, a standard example in control theory. Controlling the inverted pendulum is challenging because of its non-linearity, so that this system is often used as a benchmark for new control techniques. Through this case study, we identify issues in the tools that are currently available for the formalisation of classical analysis and we develop new ones in order to achieve our formalisation goal. In particular, we try to imitate the pen-and-paper proof style thanks to new notations and inference mechanisms. This is an essential step to make formal proofs more accessible to mathematicians. We then develop a new library for classical analysis in Coq that integrates these new tools and tries to palliate the limitations of the library we tested, especially in the domain of asymptotic reasoning. We also experiment with this new library on the same formal proof and draw lessons on its strengths and weaknesses. Finally, we sketch a new methodology in order to address the limitations of our library in the particular domain of computation. We exploit a technique called refinement to refactor the methodology of proof by reflection, a technique that automates proofs through computation and also reduces the size of proof terms. We implement this methodology on the example of arithmetic reasoning in rings and discuss how this work could be used to generalise existing tools

Full textBacteriophages are now widely recognized as major players in a wide variety of ecosystems. Novel genes are often identified in newly isolated phages as well as in environmental metavirome studies. Most of these novel viral genes have unknown functions but appear to be coding for small, non-structural proteins. To understand their biological role, very efficient genetic tools are required to modify them, especially in the genome of virulent phages. For this MSc project, specific point mutations and large deletions can be engineered in the genome of the virulent phage 2972 using the Streptococcus thermophilus CRISPR-Cas Type II-A. Furthermore, the CRISPR-Cas engineering system can be used to efficiently introduce a functional methyltransferase gene into a virulent phage genome. Finally, synthetic CRISPR bacteriophage insensitive mutants were constructed by cloning a spacer-repeat unit in a low copy vector illustrating the possibility to target multiple regions of the phage genome.

Full textRadical changes are nowadays frequent in the industry and in the public sector as well. Management tools are often studied as if they change at the same time. Management tools are changing also. Within the French army case and its revamping between 1996 and the end of 2002, we study if management tools actually change when a radical change occurs. Our survey's agenda is to check the validity of Courbon's (1982) model about interactions of organizational change and management tools. It is based on Lewin's (1951) visions about change

Full textIn the context of the analysis of firms' strategies and performances, core competencies appeared in the early 1990s, in C. K. Prahalad and G. Hamel's publications, as a new way of approaching competitiveness. The first objective of this thesis is to propose a synthetic and operational definition of core competencies. This definition is as follows: core competencies are a combination of knowledge and technologies that enables the company to get a competitive advantage in a whole range of products and services. Core competencies: - enable accessing a large number of markets, unnecessarily related, - enable improving the value of the product for the end-customer, - are difficult to imitate or to acquire for competitors, - are transverse regarding the company's activities. The second objective is to discuss the appropriateness of using core competencies as a management tool, especially in the pharmaceutical industry. Interviews with managers of pharmaceutical companies lead to the identification of the perceived core competencies of these companies. The confrontation of these perceived core competencies and the identification criteria of the definition showed difficulties in understanding the operational and managerial implications of the concept. A synthesis on the applicability of core competencies as a management tool is then given
Obame, Biyoghe Lin Martial. "Analyse de la performance et des outils de contrôle des institutions de microfinance : le cas du Bénin." Thesis, Pau, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018PAUU2039/document.
Full textThe purpose of the thesis is to present the conception of the performance defended by MFI in Benin on the basis of a broad definition of performance and its means of monitoring, beyond a purely dual economic and social approach predominant in the microfinance literature. Our research model is based on a multi a varied analysis of the performance of MFI on one hand, and on the question of its degree of relevance in the analysis of the performance of these institutions in the Beninese context on the other hand. The empirical work carried out is based on a qualitative study of the subject through semi-structured interviews with 14 microfinance institutions (MFI) in Benin. It allowed us to confirm that the approach of the performance of these institutions meets multiple objectives, and the leading control systems retained by these organizations are based on three interlocking levers. Control by so-called fundamental values, control by setting objectives and limits upstream and downstream of the action of MFI by its owner-managers, and control by reporting based on a multidimensional approach to performance. At the level of the axes composing the reporting lever, in addition to financial, internal process, organizational learning and customers, we will see that the environment and the regulatory constraints are also variables retained by many MFI in the analysis and the consolidation of their performance. Our work, in addition to analyzing the design of MFI performance, introduces recommendations for improvement

Full textFirms are facing new constraints as regards innovation, value-added products to customers, flexible and cross-sectional management. Creating operational devices to deal with these constraints is a key managerial issue. The thesis puts forward a possible approach from two main assumptions : -specific management tools provide middle managers with strategic competence. They produce knowledge and generate learning processes within the firm. -the use of such specific management tools very much depends on the organizational structure of the firm. In the danone group, the relevant managerial level to study the implementation of these explanatory management tools are the middle managers in plants and functional departments the managers are required to co-ordinate with their counterparts on an horizontal basis and to manage with vertical management effectiveness. The exploratory management tools allow them to deal with the two requirements while keeping in mind the strategic objectives of the firm. Both assumptions are validated through a twofold examination : -on the one hand, from a theoretical perspective, the research makes use of the findings on organizational learning to comprehend the mechanisms by which management knowledge develops and spreads within the firm. -on the other hand, the research is based on experimental field work, the purpose of which was to elaborate specific management tools and devices in a multinational firm in the food industry. The thesis provides both practical and theoretical answers to the following questions : -what is or should be the task assigned to local managers in the management learning processes in multidivisional firms ? -to which extent the explanatory management tools participate to improving the strategy of the firm ? -under which circumstances can a learning process be set into motion ? -in a particular structural firm environment, how should the learning process be organised and dealt with ?
