Objectives: To identify the effect of a complex intervention (educational outreach visits by pharmacists) designed to change general practitioners' (GPs') prescribing on each step of a hypothesised pathway of change leading to the final primary trial outcome of change in prescribing. Method: The study was undertaken in six health authorities in the North of England and six in London. We described three steps leading to this outcome: the general practices agreeing to participate; GPs in each practice attending the outreach visit conducted by the pharmacists; and the GPs' prescribing practice be

Abstract:
A non-supervised call centre was used to allow oncology patients to contact their personal doctors 24 hours a day. Incoming patient calls to the centre were automatically routed to the doctor's mobile phone or office telephone. Over four years, an average of 407 calls were made each year, by an average of 274 oncology patients. The average number of emergency hospital visits was 24 per year (0.09 per patient), compared with 42 per year (0.16 per patient) during the year before the telephone service began. The average number of outreach visits was 783 (2.9 per patient) per year during the study

e13524 Background: Acute care utilization (ACU), including emergency department visits and hospitalizations, is common in patients with cancer. Prospectively identifying patients’ risk status may enable interventions to reduce ACU. We developed a REDUCE score (Reducing ED Utilization in the Cancer Experience for active oncology patients (defined as patients with an active cancer diagnosis in the last 12 months who had a Medical Oncology encounter in a 180-day period) to prospectively determine risk of ACU. The intended intervention was outreach to all high-risk patients. We evaluated the high

This project examined the feasibility of using an educational representative, modeled in part on a drug detailing representative, to increase health promotion counseling by rural family physicians in east Texas. The physicians were offered, at no charge, materials for patients and training for themselves and their office staff on patient education regarding smoking, weight problems, sedentary living, and stress. Visits from the representative were accepted by 76 percent of the physicians, about half of whom requested training for themselves and/or their office staffs. A high degree of satisfac

Abstract Cooperative Extension education continues to maintain a strong foothold in educating people in the agricultural industry. To connect with the next generation of agriculturalists, Extension needs to investigate alternative methods to disseminate educational material. Developing and maintaining a webpage that provides relevant and scientific based sheep production information is critical as interest in the small ruminant industry continues to rise. The Ohio State University Extension Sheep Team webpage provides shepherds across the nation with the latest information regarding sheep prod

People with traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI), although proportionally fewer in number, are known to be high users of primary health care services; however, details of their visits to GPs are unclear. This study presents information about GP utilisation patterns of 193 people with SCI over a 5-year period. Results demonstrate substantially greater GP service utilisation, particularly for young men with SCI, compared with their counterparts in the general population. Interestingly, people with paraplegia were proportionally higher users of GP services than those with tetraplegia. Results indic
