Marval-Peck, Luisa. "Exploring Women's Experiences Obtaining Medication Abortion Outside of the Formal Healthcare System." Thesis, Université d'Ottawa / University of Ottawa, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/10393/42372.

Full text
Abstract:
Despite legal and technological advances, women still face barriers to abortion care in legally restricted or low-resource settings. The advent of medication abortion using misoprostol with or without mifepristone, has enabled women to self-manage their abortions outside of the formal healthcare system. Self-managed abortions are often assisted by telemedicine services, which provide women with evidence-based guidance on managing the abortion process on their own. This thesis explores two separate abortion telemedicine services operating in legally restricted and/or low resource settings – a global online telemedicine service and an abortion support hotline in Venezuela – and evaluates the outcomes associated with each. By interviewing counsellors at a Venezuelan abortion support hotline and the women who used the service, we gained a stronger understanding of the hotline’s successes, barriers, and areas for improvement. We conclude that abortion telemedicine services provide effective and acceptable care, in general, and we recommend greater access to misoprostol in Venezuela.

Wille, Joachim Olsen. "Performance of a Multichannel Audio Correction System Outside the Sweetspot. : Further Investigations of the Trinnov Optimizer." Thesis, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Department of Electronics and Telecommunications, 2008. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:no:ntnu:diva-8911.

Abstract:
<p>This report is a continuation of the student project "Evaluation of TrinnovOptimizer audio reproduction system". It will further investigate theproperties and function of the Trinnov Optimizer, a correction system foraudio reproduction systems. During the student project measurements wereperformed in an anechoic lab to provide information on the functionality andabilities of the Trinnov Optimizer. Massive amounts of data were recorded, and that has also been the foundation of this report. The new work that hasbeen done is by interpreting these results through the use of Matlab. The Optimizer by Trinnov [9 ] is a standalone system for reproductionof audio over a single or multiple loudspeaker setup. It is designed tocorrect frequency and phase response in addition to correcting loudspeakerplacements and cancel simple early re?ections in a multiple loudspeakersetup. The purpose of further investigating this issue was to understandmore about the sound?eld produced around the listening position, and togive more detailed results on the changes in the sound?eld after correction.Importance of correcting the system not only in the listening position, butalso in the surrounding area, is obvious because there is often more than onelistener. This report gives further insight in physical measurements ratherthan subjective statements, on the performance of a room and loudspeakercorrection device. WinMLS has been used to measure the system with single, and multiplemicrophone setups. Some results from the earlier student project are alsoin this report to verify measurement methods, and to show correspondancebetween the di?erent measuring systems. Therefore some of the data havebeen compared to the Trinnov Optimizer's own measurements and appear similar in this report. Some errors found in the initial report, the results from the phase response measurements, have also been corrected. Multiple loudspeakers in a 5.0 setup have been measured with 5 microphones on a rotating boom to measure the soundpressure over an area around the listening position. This allowed the e?ect of simple re?ections cancellation, and the ability to generate virtual sources to be investigated. For the speci?c cases that were investigated in this report, the Optimizer showed the following: ? Frequency and phase response will in every situation be optimized to the extent of the Optimizers algorithms. ? Every case shows improvement in the frequency and phase response over the whole measured area. ? Direct frontal re?ections was deconvolved up to 300Hz over the whole measured area with a radius of 56cm. ? A re?ection from the side was deconvolved roughly up to 200Hz for microphones 1 through 3, up to a radius of 31.25cm, and up to 100Hz for microphones 4 and 5. ? The ability to create virtual sources corresponds fairly to the theoretical expectations. The video sequences that were developed give an interesting new angle on the problems that were investigated. Other than looking at plots of di?erent angles which is di?cult and time consuming, the videos showed an intuitive perspective that enlightened the same issues as the common presented data of frequency and phase response measurements.</p>

Krieg, Elizabeth Anne. "Stories from outside the textbook : "Counter Points" to colonial narratives in the British Columbia public education system." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 2007. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/32885.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis is an exploratory study into three participants' perspectives regarding Aboriginal representation, or the lack of it, in Chapter 15, "Urbanization" of the Social Studies 11 textbook Counter Points: Exploring Canadian Issues. The participants were Libby, a recently graduated high school student from the Musqueam Band, Arleen, a Euro-Canadian Social Studies 11 teacher, and Clayton, an acquaintance of mine of Tlingit and European descent. The participants shared how they felt their cultures were being privileged or marginalized by Eurocentric content in Chapter 15 and the public education system in general. Collaborative expert interviews, storytelling, and reflexivity ensured that the participants' perspectives and knowledges were at the forefront of the research. At the heart of my thesis were the participants' stories, created with their input and feedback, and consisting of a mixture of their interviews, personal reflections, and testimonial excerpts taken from the 1912-1916 McKenna McBride Commission. The testimonies helped to demonstrate how colonial ideologies of the past continue to persevere into the present. My personal family history was also braided into the historical analysis as a part of the reflexive component to the thesis. The stories from Aboriginal learners Libby and Clayton challenge the banality of colonialism within Chapter 15 and how it could be read as an extension of the settler society's assertion to land title. Arleen and I found that our perceptions regarding Chapter 15 changed upon our reflections of Libby and Clayton's stories, causing us to question how public education disassociates the colonial actions of the past with the present. Further critical reflection had us consider what our roles are to help stop colonial ideologies from being further perpetuated. The research indicated that Eurocentric knowledge continues to be disseminated in education and how storytelling may be a tool to challenge this information and build relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal learners. Future study needs to be conducted to determine whether these methods could create safe spaces in classrooms to engage teachers and students with the types of issues that were discussed in the thesis.<br>Education, Faculty of<br>Curriculum and Pedagogy (EDCP), Department of<br>Graduate

Reiman, A. (Arto). "Holistic work system design and management:— a participatory development approach to delivery truck drivers’ work outside the cab." Doctoral thesis, Oulun yliopisto, 2013. http://urn.fi/urn:isbn:9789526202198.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract The road freight transport industry as a labour-intensive sector is dependent on the work ability and well-being at work of employees. The majority of the occupational accidents are related to work phases outside the cab. These work phases, which are performed in various different work environments, contain several kinds of ergonomic discomforts. This poses complex challenges for the employers from a safety and productivity point of view. The framework of this thesis is based on the foundations of ergonomics and design science. The main objective was to provide knowledge that can be implemented into the design and management of work systems for local and short haul delivery operations. Material was obtained from two sources. A meta-synthesis was performed to frame holistic management in a human perspective. Furthermore, additional in-depth design knowledge was obtained through participatory ergonomics video analyses on drivers’ work outside the cab. Video analyses resulted in 262 identifications of demanding work situations where ergonomic discomforts and risks of accidents occurred. Sudden over-exertions and strains, falls and slips as well as losing control of work equipment were the most common deviations related to drivers’ work outside the cab and mainly related to physical activities of movement and carrying by hand. The majority of the work situations identified were performed in cargo spaces or elsewhere within the truck structure or at premises and yards that are administered by the customers or other stakeholders. In these environments, drivers tend to perform their work manually or using different types of work equipment. This thesis provides new in-depth knowledge on drivers’ work outside the cab. The results show that different stakeholders can contribute to drivers’ work systems. The knowledge provided by drivers and other stakeholders can be applied to holistic design and management processes at company level. Moreover, the knowledge can also be applied to broader value chain design and management processes<br>Tiivistelmä Tieliikenteen tavarankuljetus työvoimavaltaisena toimialana on riippuvainen henkilöstön työkyvystä ja -hyvinvoinnista. Suurin osa tapaturmista liittyy työtehtäviin ohjaamon ulkopuolella. Materiaali koostui kahdesta osiosta.

Abstract:
The present study utilized Microsoft Visual Basic 2008 to investigate the role of comparing high and low preferred education-based stimulus equivalence protocols for adults with developmental disabilities outside the educational system. First, participants were exposed to all educational categories and completed a paired choice preference assessment to identify high and low preferred protocols. Next, participants completed high and low preferred protocols following an alternating treatments design, with an initial pretest, training, posttest, and a test for an emergent topography (typing skills). Results showed evidence of higher preference through duration and errors per min measures for two of three participants, with results unclear for a third participant. Furthermore, one participant displayed all equivalence classes expected of the training protocol, while another demonstrated all emergent relations for the high preferred protocol but only one of six for the low preferred protocol, and the last participant exceeded criterion for four of six posttests for the high preferred protocol, and two of six for the low preferred protocol. The results are discussed in terms of measures for preferences, habilitation, modifications to training protocols, the study's limitations, and directions for future research.

Van, der Merwe David-John. "Experimental and numerical investigation of the heat transfer between a high temperature reactor pressure vessel and the outside of the concrete confinement structure." Thesis, Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10019.1/71796.

Full text
Abstract:
Thesis (MScEng)--Stellenbosch University, 2012.<br>ENGLISH ABSTRACT: A high temperature reactor (HTR) generates heat inside of the reactor core through nuclear fission, from where the heat is transferred through the core and heats up the reactor pressure vessel (RPV). The heat from the RPV is transported passively through the reactor cavity, where it is cooled by the reactor cavity cooling system (RCCS), through the concrete confinement structure and ultimately into the environment. The concrete confinement structure can withstand temperatures of up to 65°C for normal operating conditions and temperatures of up to 125°C during an emergency. This project endeavours to research the heat transfer between an HTR’s RPV and the outside of the concrete confinement structure by utilising three investigative approaches: experimental, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and analytical. The first approach, an experimental analysis, required the development of an experi- mental model. The model was used to perform experiments and gather temperature data that could be used to verify the accuracy of the CFD simulations. The second approach was a CFD analysis of the experimental model, and the external concrete temperatures from the simulation were compared with the temperatures measured with the experimen- tal model. Finally, an analytical analysis was performed in order to better understand CFD and how CFD solves natural convection-type problems. The experiments were performed successfully and the measurements taken were com- pared with the CFD results. The CFD results are in good agreement with the Dry experiments, but not with the Charged experiments. It was identified that the inaccurate results for the CFD simulations of the Charged experiments arose due to convective heat leakage through gaps in the heat shield and between the heat shield and the sides of the experimental model. A computer program was developed for the analytical analysis and it was established that the program could successfully solve the natural convection in a square cavity - as required.<br>AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: ’n Hoë temperatuur reaktor (HTR) genereer hitte binne die reaktor kern deur kernsplyting en die hitte word dan deur die kern versprei en verhit die reaktor se drukvat.

Tsekhmestruk, Nataliia. "Is it a scandal that around 8 million Roma fall just outside the healthcare system? : A qualitative study exploring access to the health insurance and health care for Roma staying in Sweden."

Full text
Abstract:
Introduction: The Roma is the largest ethnic minority in Europe, estimated to be over 11 million (1.35% of Europe’s total population). At the same time, it is the most vulnerable and marginalized community, facing many challenges in everyday life, such as low levels of education, unemployment, poverty, limited access to information, social and health services as well as racial discrimination. Roma people have great health needs and lack access to the European Health Insurance scheme. Efforts by governments across Europe to address these health inequities have been relatively weak and Roma suffer poorer access to health care, health insurance, education and employment in every country that they inhabit in comparison to the majority population. There are studies exploring the health situation of the Roma, but very limited information is available about the availability of the European Health Insurance for Roma and access to health care in Sweden. The general aim of this study is to explore access to the health insurance and health care for Roma staying in Sweden. Methods: A qualitative design methodology has been applied in this thesis. Four non-government organizations in Sweden were contacted and six in-depth interviews were done with professionals and volunteers from those organizations. Questions were asked about experience of working/volunteering and assisting Roma people in accessing health care in Sweden. The interviews also addressed barriers faced by Roma to obtain the European Health Insurance in Romania. The data was analyzed using inductive thematic analysis. Results: Four themes were developed during the data analysis. The first theme “A bureaucratic and unfriendly system makes it hard for Roma to get insured in Romania” is about the role of the Romanian government in maintaining the (disadvantaged) situation of Roma people. The second theme “Difficult to access the health care services in Sweden, without active European Health Insurance” explains the situation of Roma people, when they seek medical care in Sweden and the importance of having an active European Health Insurance. The third theme “European Union policies do not respond to the health care needs of Roma” elaborates on the governance of the whole health insurance scheme from the EU level and how it is not designed to fit the needs of the Roma. The fourth theme “The history of racism and discrimination of Roma is the root of this situation” is about how society perceives Roma people and how they have been treated for a long time as slaves, with labels including discrimination and racism. Conclusion: This study highlights that access to health care for Romanian Roma people staying in Sweden cannot be seen as a separate issue from that of the situation of access to the health insurance scheme - the National Health Insurance and the European Health Insurance - for Roma in Romania. The study highlights that access to health care and the European Health Insurance for Roma in Romania is often determined by the (dis)functionality of the health system in Romania, corruption and bureaucracy. Without an active European Health Insurance, Roma cannot access health care in Sweden. As an additional burden, they are requested to prove that they can access health care as undocumented people. European Union regulations and laws make it difficult for people who do not have official work to obtain European Health Insurance. The history of racism and discrimination is, potentially the root of the situation. Even today Roma are judged with prejudices, stereotypes and pre-existing beliefs that makes access the health insurance and health care for Roma staying in Sweden even more difficult.

Hughes, J. "The development of the GIST (Grounding Information Systems) methodology : determining situated requirements in information systems analysis." Thesis, University of Salford, 1998. http://usir.salford.ac.uk/14678/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis develops a methodology for situated requirements determination in information systems analysis. The thesis challenges convention and adds to the body of knowledge in this area since the methods of the methodology are more usually associated with the social sciences. The role of the systems analyst and the nature of information systems as a distinct discipline form a major part of the thesis and the scope of this investigation includes an exposition of information systems methodologies in general and 'soft' methodologies in particular. A major element of the thesis is the empirical work carried out in which the researcher has undertaken two 'live' systems analysis studies using the methodology which has been developed in action supported by computer software for qualitative data analysis The results from the study are presented in terms of learning and are analysed to help answer the questions relating to the appropriateness of the methodology and the usefulness of the methodology for practising systems analysts. The research methodology used is action case and the appropriateness of this is examined in depth since studies of this type raise a number of questions relating to the validity of this type of research and the role of the researcher. The thesis draws together the different problems and questions that arise in order to produce a coherent, consistent and academically worthy account based upon the literature and empirical findings. In short the thesis addresses the basic issue that motivated its production, namely, how systems analysts faced with organisational complexity really find out what is going on. The outcomes of the research argue for a new role for the systems analyst as postmodern 'bricoleue and tentatively propose the usefulness of social science methods in information systems practice.

Abstract:
<p>This paper is about the importance of culture in the usage of business applications and how they function outside their original context. When involved in an environment that has different culture or value than yours, it is important to live and interact on a high level with the group of people or company that you are in project with because we believe that it will help you to understand and value the culture you are working with. Let it be known that it is important for the consultant or the programmer to be patient and open minded towards new learning experiences or else they will stumble on their own feet whether it is national culture or business culture.</p><p>We will do our study with the help of a qualitative research in a company with international experience located in Iran where we will make interviews over the phone with the help of semi-structured interview method. The conversations will then be recorded with a record player in order to gain high reliability. The difference between national and business culture as the way we understand it is that national culture consists of so many different aspects and is both inherited and learned. It also involves heroes, symbols, religious beliefs and rituals while business culture is less complex in the comparance. Although heroes and rituals exists in business culture as well, but the main difference is that you can change a business culture more easily than you can with a national culture. This conclusion is based on our empirical findings were we noticed that you can change the business culture through modernization, like our case study were they renewed their IS.</p><p>We come to the conclusion that it is essential for the company to have a developer who understand the companys’ needs and demands and develop business applications that can satisfy the companys’ wishes according to the existing and new norms. These norms are often set by IC: s. and developers in DC: s following them as best as they possibly can. Some of them are more successfull than others, and that is due to their cooperations with companies in IC: s. We must not forget that even though the majority of companies in Iran uses only native applications they still are mostly influenced from IC: s methodology.</p><p>As shown through our analysis and our conclusions the main reason for a business application to fail is cultural barriers where we have mentioned language, values, logics and business culture. Besides the national laws and business mentalities are also factors playing important rolls. All of these factors lead to the situation where it is insupportable to use a foreign business application. It is also very important that the consultant developing the business application has a solid understanding about the cultural differences, and a strong knowledge base about different kinds of business applications.</p>

Abstract:
There is an ongoing debate on whether students’ use of mobile devices extends to academic purposes. In developing countries, mobile devices are argued to assist in reducing digital divide and foster educational use leading to poverty alleviation. Framework on students’ effective use of mobile devices for learning outside the classroom (SEUMD) is applied as lens. This research investigates, what influence effective use of mobile devices for learning outside the classroom has on academic performance of secondary school students in Tanzania and South Africa. An Interpretive approach on multiple case studies is employed. A mixed method approach is used that includes, close ended questionnaires, semi-structured interviews and direct observations. A secondary school in Dar-es-salaam and a high school in Cape Town were selected for data collection. Data was collected with Form IV students and their teachers and Grade 12 learners and their teachers. Mixed method is applied to investigate students’ and teachers’ use of mobile devices for learning outside the classroom. Descriptive statistics is used to analyse questionnaires and thematic analysis for interviews and observations. Both, students’ and teachers’ use mobile device to socialize, recreational purposes, searching for information and academic purposes. On academic purposes, mobile devices are used to make phone calls, send short message services and on Internet. Internet use encompass websites, search engines, social networks and instant messaging applications. Students’ save pocket money to buy airtime and Internet bundles. Students’ receive advice and assistance from peers on mobile devices to acquire and technical help. Key findings demonstrate students’ effective use of mobile devices includes WhatsApp and Facebook to communicate to peers, friends and teachers on educational issues. Abstract:
The aim of this work was to investigate the frequency of movement of laying hens between indoor and outdoor enclosures and the time hens spent outside the hen house in relation to feather pecking and condition of the integument. The effect of housing condition and the genotype were studied. Hens that were offered a large space to outside open area (10m²/bird) moved significantly more frequently to the outdoor areas than others (2.5m²/bird). Frequency of movement between poultry house and winter garden was higher in the group without grassland. Hens kept at a higher density outdoors (2.5m²/bird) spent significantly more time in this area than hens were kept at a lower density (10m²/bird) on grassland. The high rates of feather pecking are observed in the group without grassland compared to groups stocked at 2.5m² or 10m² per bird on grassland The group without grassland had poorer feather condition compared to other groups that had 2.5m²/bird and 10m²/bird on grassland Lohmann Selected Leghorn (LSL) hens moved more frequently to the outdoor enclosures compared to Lohmann Tradition (LT). But LT hens spent significantly more time on grassland than LSL.The plumage condition was worse in LSL than LT hens. It is concluded that housing conditions might have a stronger influence on the development of feather pecking than the genetic aspect. Large differences between the genotypes examined were found in respect to the frequency of movement to the outdoor areas, the time spent outside and plumage and skin damage

Abstract:
My thesis investigates the universality of the Matrix Language Frame model developed by Myers-Scotton (2002). The work tests the model by using bilingual data which display code-switching between French and the low variety of Lingala. The main concern of the work is to test the constraints that are posited in terms of principles of the model and which claim that the Matrix Language dictates the morphosyntactic frame of a bilingual Complementizer Phrase (CP). In the light of the findings of this study, it was shown that the ML model failed to account for a number of situations; and such was the case of the Morpheme Order Principle and double morphology, specifically with the outsider late system morphemes.

This paper explores two important topics among the political parties and party system literature in Peru: The strength and stability of the political party system in the 80’s and the decade of the 90’s, better known as the «decade of the antipolitics». The contrast between the literature reviewed and the quantitative data from the 7 Municipal Elections, that took place among this time period, attempts to find if this phenomena occurred also at the subnational level. In the decade of the 80’s, the political party system stayed stable with rule of the four most important political parties (APRA, Acción Popular, Izquierda Unida y PPC); however, individually these political parties did not have the same performance. In the decade of the 90’s, the concept «in- dependent» did not fit equally among all the cases and together with the fujimorismo depicted the political scenario of the 90’s.<br>El presente artículo explora dos temas importantes en la literatura sobre partidos políticos y sistema de partidos en el Perú: la fortaleza y estabilidad del sistema de partidos en la década de los 80 y la década de los 90, más conocida como la «década de la antipolítica». Hanina, Marina. "Les conditions du développement des compétences interculturelles des adolescents immigrants à Sherbrooke." Thesis, Lyon, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016LYSE2048/document.

Full text
Abstract:
The subject matter of the present research is the analysis of conditions in which immigrant youth develop their cross cultural competences in school milieu in Sherbrooke.Several questions pertaining to changes taking place in Quebec society and the particular needs of Quebec’s educational system, in which the target population evolves, are outlined. Nationally, and particularly on the institutional level, the emergence of complex intercultural trajectories is increasingly taking center-stage. Such experiences represent dynamic evolving phenomena that provoke various feelings, specific behavior patterns, emotional disorders and cultural shocks. They are more clearly identifiable in certain regions where the number of newly arrived immigrants continuously grows. And the immigration in Sherbrooke is in constant evolution. Academic professionals are not sufficiently skilled to adequately perform in this kind of situations. They deplore their lack of knowledge and resources in this area, given that immigration to small towns on this scale is a relatively new phenomenon in Canada.Furthermore, this new phenomenon remains largely unexplored in the scientific domain. This subject is only partially paid attention to and is poorly adapted to the specific realities of immigrant youth being brought up in such regions. The conceptual field and frame of reference appear to have to be entirely reconstructed. To do so, it is necessary to analyze the conditions in which immigrant youth develop their cross-cultural competencies as it would allow us to understand the process of how they are acquired.Such subtle analysis will provide for carrying out tools and techniques to better equip academic professionals with knowledge and skills to help them face their new school realities and act in an appropriate and efficient manner. To address this need, we deployed an analysis pattern, which allowed us to study the evolution of cross-cultural competences by considering positive and negative factors for their development. These factors have been classified in an ecosystem, going from micro-system to macro-system.In the present study four types of respondents were interrogated: Quebecois youth, immigrant youth and their parents and teachers working in multicultural classes. These four respondents’ types were necessary to obtain a comprehensive view of the immigrant situation and their integration. We used focus groups, projective imagination test and face to face interviews. The results of the global analysis have shown that there are several crucial factors which were classified into the ecosystem. The main identified factors are: the degree of self-motivation, self esteem and how the school image is perceived (microsystem), parental strategies (mesosystem), teachers’ academic background and their tutorial approach, as well as policies around “welcome classes” structure (macrosystem). Moreover, we noticed that immigrant youth tend to faster adopt and integrate the culture of the Quebec society as well as merge with the new school community. The present research aimed to study the concepts of cross-cultural competencies has been enriched by the multidisciplinary approach we have applied throughout our analysis (psychology, pedagogy, sociology and anthropology)

Abstract:
An increased competitive climate has enhanced the importance for companies to differentiate from other companies. Today, the customer support within service organizations are often disregarded as a source of value due to the focus on costs. Further, it has become more important to leverage the contact with the customer at all encounters. New technological advancements within Business Intelligence have also enabled companies to increase their competitiveness through improved decision support. The objective of this thesis is through a case study investigate how an insurance company could leverage its customer support as a source of creating shareholder value as well as how to apply trends within Business Intelligence for increased decision support. This was done through developing a conceptual model based on academic theory in order to provide a tool for analysis and development of a customer support. The research questions intends to investigate how an customer support can contribute to, and balance a focus on service quality, costs and sales in order to enhance shareholder value. A business driven approach was further used in order to understand how a customer support could leverage the emerging trends of Business Intelligence. This since the thesis also aims to provide some first insights into how to leverage the trends of mobile- and Self-Service- Business Intelligence within the customer support within insurance companies. The research emphasizes the need to have a holistic view of what drives value and costs with regard to the retention, growth and acquisition of customers when viewing the customer support as a source of value. The thesis concludes that both the trends of mobile- and Self-Service- Business Intelligence could enable an insurance company to gain new insights through utilizing existing internal as well as external data in order to conduct a more continuous and flexible analysis of important matters.

Full text
Abstract:
This work aims at approaching politics in Lebanon in its praxis by questioning the actions of a specific category of actors : the Lebanese institutionalized religious elites. Addressing their political positioning means examining to what extend the confessional boarders can be transcended in order to reach a common goal : preserving the current social order.First, it is thus necessary to question the resources available to these actors in order to establish and legitimate their involvement in the political field. These resources take roots in a historical heritage, which varies from one community to the other, but take place in a structural and legal framework, which tends to harmonize the positional practices and to allow to the institutionalized bodies the means to frame the Lebanese society. The charismatic resources, which vary from one leader to the other, are not to be laid aside. This study of the positional practices involves not only to lay eyes on the vectors carrying the discourses, but also to observe the temporality and the frequency in which said discourses fit. This political discourse is characterized by a blatant uniformity in both rhetoric and vocabulary used by the dominants. Advocating for a cause, thus linked to the very identity of the group, shaping the communication strategies, but also preserving a necessary balance with the political field, in terms of proximity, are so many norms that determine the legitimacy of the produced discourse. This positioning is not without posing some challenges for the institutionalized religious actors who have to deal with the competition of outsiders who offer a less uniform, and thus more attractive discourse, but also with the potential divisions within the religious field, and the oppositions with the political actors. Dealing with these potential competitions implies a common, joint or concomitant action, in system, in order to produce a discourse by the elites and for the elites, promoting the safekeeping of the social order.By avoiding the communitarian and clientelistic reading grids through the observation of the positioning of specific actors who mainly possess symbolic capitals, we are led to shape the constitution of a new field of the conservative elites, gathering not only the religious actors but also a part of the political ones working in order to preserve the social order

Abstract:
<p>Changes in sectors and industries have brought new challenges to corporations as well as been important driving forces for the dynamics in strategy at the corporate level. With the dramatic developments of the 1990’s in mind, such as multilateral free-trade agreements, liberalization, privatization, sharp industry growth/decline, increased competition and globalization, in particular within the telecom and the construction industry, this study contributes to describing and understanding strategic change at the corporate level as well as changes in the division of work within value chains. Strategy is defined as intentions, decisions and actions that relate to bundling and unbundling at different strategic levels, aiming to establish and reestablish a value chain position. Thus, outsourcing, M&As, modularization and systems development and sales are important strategic components which are examined from a value chain perspective. From a value chain perspective, the purpose of this study is to describe and understand strategic change at the corporate level in the telecom and construction industries during the 1990’s. More specifically this study shall contribute to describing and understanding (i) the dynamics of and between M&As, outsourcing, modularization and systemization, as well as (ii) industrial and financial drivers to strategic change.</p><p>The conclusions describe strategic change from a value chain perspective using three descriptive patterns, including an increasing degree of specialization and need for interorganizational coordination across the value chain. In addition, outsourcing and modularization of systems and an increased scope of offering through systemization and BOT-projects, result in the fact that due to M&As the horizontal boundary of the firm sometimes goes beyond the industry scope while the vertical scope is often narrowed through outsourcing. The conclusions also focus on understanding the content of strategic change, that is to say the dynamics of and between mergers and acquisitions, outsourcing, modularization and system sales. These findings are summarized in nine explanatory patterns. These patterns show that the strategic decisions of bundling and unbundling at the corporate and functional level through mergers and acquisitions, outsourcing, systemization and modularization are guided by an industrial as well as a financial logic. By considering the descriptive and explanatory patterns found this study, the conclusions also include what to expect during the next decade with regard to corporate strategy from a value chain perspective in five predictive patterns.</p>

Abstract:
碩士<br>國立高雄師範大學<br>美術學系<br>102<br>Contemporary art from the twentieth century is considered the most complicate part in art history. Related individuals in the industry such as critics, artists and collectors as a whole face major challenges for contemporary art’s emphasis on the diversity features and interdisciplinary look. The development of art around this period differs from the past. It goes beyond the exploration of the form of creativity, texts and topics; furthermore, it embodies the reflection of importance of time, the introspection of society changes, the interpretation of cultural phenomenon and the dissection of inner selves. In other words, art not only can be viewed from the perspective of society, politics, culture, history and gender in large, but also of individual, family, body, emotion and spirit in microcosm. From macro to micro, art seems to be stuck in the chaotic, crackled state in the deduction of this kind of multi-mirror-like and dialectical movement to the contemporary art today. Since the concept “after the end of art” of Arthur C. Danto has been brought up, what can art work be possible of searching? Moreover, what is the possibility of contemporary art in Taiwan to develop? Through anthropological fieldwork research, the author of this text wanders in the crevice of the art system with so-called new genre public art dialogue work. He contemplates how to create the conversation between public and publicness. In the process of practicing art, he tries to revaluate the definition of art, challenge the nature of it and conduct self-interpretation.

Private lecture outside the system becomes more and more complex and various in terms of cultural education or marketing, even though industry transformation. In this research, private lecture after 1949 in Taiwan mainly consist of three phases, they are: A.1949-1987 AC: 1949 The Kuomintang (KMT) government fallback to Taiwan form mainland China. In this era, Taiwan was devastated by warfare. In order to arm the country against Communist China, Taiwan began usage of the curfew. Strictly gag law and opinion control baffled the progress of culture and society. This era had no obvious progress of private lecture under thinking and speech control. As a matter of fact, it has no room for its development. B.1987-2006 AC: The binding on politics had been released. The society force has been rescued; the improvement of economy reinforces the appearance of private lecture outside of the system which synthesizes modernization, socialization and leverages new technology, knowledge and marketing skills. C.2006-present: Taiwan and China are continuously against each other on politics. Economy in Taiwan is low. Taiwan government is facing the problem of upgrade and integration of industry. "Xue-Xue Institute" takes the advantage of large-scale capital and cuts in private lecture field from the industry development/transformation point of view. Abstract:
碩士<br>國立臺北科技大學<br>能源與冷凍空調工程系碩士班<br>96<br>This study used three typical types of buildings for energy analysis. 3D building models were created for annual dynamic building energy analysis using DOE-2. This study used annual local weather data for annual energy consumption comparison with the actual building cases. Simulation of annual energy consumption of outside air control include outside air control according to the number of people and indoor carbon dioxide level. It was found from the simulation results that outside air control can save energy especially using number of people and carbon dioxide level as the control parameters. The total electricity consumption of the building per year could drop about 6.18%, and that of air-conditioning is about 12.71%, when the number of people indoor controls outside air volume. When indoor carbon dioxide level is set at 1000 ppm, it could reduce the total annual electricity consumption of the building by about 24.44% as compared to the present cases. Carbon dioxide level of 1000 ppm as compared with 600 ppm can save air-conditioning energy by about 29.96%. Then a hospital building and school building were simulated and analyzed for the annual energy consumption. A comparison between two levels of indoor carbon dioxide levels, namely, 1000 ppm and 600 ppm was studied. When indoor carbon dioxide level was set at 1000 ppm in for the hospital building, it could reduce the total annual electricity consumption by about 6.31%, and that for air-conditioning is about 10.2% as compared with 600 ppm. When indoor carbon dioxide level is set at 1000 ppm in the school building, it could reduce the total annual electricity consumption of the building by about 32.54%, and that for air-conditioning is about 40.22% as compared with 600 ppm. According to the aforementioned, it can be concluded that outside air control has a great potential for energy saving. Using outside air control could have a great contribution to save energy during this era of energy shortage.

Abstract:
碩士<br>逢甲大學<br>財經法律研究所<br>105<br>In recent years, the discussion of corporate governance has continued unabated, with "Independent Director" being the hot topic. Since the Taiwan Securities and Exchange Act amended and promulgated on 11 January 2006, an independent director system was formally introduced. And in Japan, the neighboring country of Taiwan, amended the Commercial Code in 2002, corporates established the independent directors and Nomination, Audit and Compensation Committees required by law, and amended the Companies Act in 2015. Taiwan is very similar to Japan in corporate law and in corporate organization, and two countries both introduced the independent director system from the United States. But there are differences because of national conditions, social and economic environment, as well as the present situation of the independent director system of Japan, is it possible for us to learn? Japan has just amended the provisions of independent director, at the time of Taiwan has not been a long time to amend the relevant laws of the independent director system. It is a good time to study the legal differences between Japan and Taiwan, and we hope to provide a clue to the Company Act that will be reviewed and amended this year.

The researcher takes her own 3rd grade classes as research field, the selection of conjecturing task was based on the reflection and adjustment from the previous teaching practice, “Perimeter and Area”, “Digit Puzzle” and “Chicken and Rabbit Cages”. Analyzing teaching materials, designing mathematics conjecturing task and the five stages in the framework of mathematics conjecturing teaching mode (product - organization - observing example, discovering relations and proposing hypotheses, verifying the hypotheses, generalizing the hypotheses and generalizing the proofs) are included in the math teaching activities to complete the teaching objectives. The results showed that “choosing conjecturing task”, it is necessary to pre-analyze the related teaching materials and the way of students’ learning if the task is relevant to the subject taught at school. “Designing conjecturing task”, exampling is an important starting point, it needs to take students’ prior knowledge into account, design the proper example to meet the objectives of conjecturing task. “Implementing conjecturing task”, the team members should be properly deployed to achieve the best interactive learning. “Individual exampling and team worksheet”, correctness and completeness need to be confirmed. Teachers have to guide students at the right time, to observe the changes of their worksheet, make sure the common mathematical terms are used when verifying the hypotheses and encourage students to put forward ideas boldly. “Verifying hypotheses”, hypotheses should be clarified in accordance with the team examples. It is also necessary to put forward concrete examples to refute. “Validating hypotheses”, students take the leading role of learning process, teachers only need to guide students to verify, supplement, revise, classify and combine the hypotheses to help students use accurate mathematical language. Further research is needed to explore the process of students’ learning in “generalizing the hypotheses” and “generalizing the proofs” if the number of conjecturing teaching is increased and how students develop mathematics concept in higher grades if they start to experience the mathematical conjecturing task in lower grades. Researching (1) Solar radiation theory (including the elevation angle and azimuth of the sun theories, geographical longitude and latitude and sunshine rate and meteorological data, the solar constant and solar radiation energy such as solar radiation). (2) Principles of Building Sunshine (windows horizontal, vertical, grid-style shading types). (3) The theory of shading shelter calculation (analytic geometry of space of shading, coordinate calculation area method, hourly direct solar radiation = hourly vertical solar radiation *window area). Related to expected results are as follows: 1 .Solar radiation database. 2. Accumulated shading solar radiation database. 3. Database of window shade types. 4. The economic benefits of different shade type. This study writes a set of program to calculate the window shade solar energy, to be used in theory and practice. By this program could easily save 50~60% electric energy.

Abstract:
This dissertation seeks to describe and explain the connection between The Supreme Court and politics outside of the judicial system. It is a case study of the reaction to the Brown v. Board of Education integration decision in the American South. I apply a theoretical model of “judicialization,” arguing that when courts affect politics outside of the judicial system, they reshape politics to resemble the adversarial legal system, sparking polarized conflict and causing non-judicial political actors to make arguments in the form of constitutional doctrine. Analyzing editorials and letters to the editor from Southern newspapers, I show that debate after Brown was characterized by appeals to constitutional principles, and that Brown increased the salience of segregation in schools as a subject of political debate. I also supplement my Southern newspaper data with data from African-American newspapers and analyze Southern elections in the periods immediately before and after the education integration decision to assess the impact of the Court’s education decision on both voters and candidates.<br>text
