Full textThis research aims at studying the different aspects of language use at the levels of linguistic and identity repertoires in a multilingual environment; namely high schools in Aït Ourir, Haouz Province, Morocco. The analysis of conversations in the daily usage of languages revealed that Code Switching is a common practice among teachers as well as pupils; and that the weight of each language used depends more on its usefulness to the purpose of speaking. At the identity level, multilingual identity is dominant and the weight of each language is dependent up on the linguistic biography of the person surveyed. Thus, the relationship between the linguistic and identity repertoires is disproportionate. Indeed, synchronically comparing the languages in study confirmed that they don’t have the same weight at the two levels. The monolingual turn-taking is dominating whereas the monolingual identity is weak. On the other hand, the mixed turn-taking is meaningless whilst multilingual identity is significant. Moreover, the diachronic comparison enabled us to deduce that the change is ongoing in practice while it seems steady from adolescence to adulthood which shows that identifying in a language doesn’t depend on its practice

Full textThe door was one of the first element of Greek architecture to be monumentalized. The term "door" refers here to the whole system, as well as the door panels and the door frame. These two elements are themselves composed of several parts but only those in stone, namely the threshold, the jambs, the lintel and the coronation remain. There are also metal seals and traces of wood seals or veneer. These remains, together with a study of texts (treaties, construction accounts, travelers' tales ), iconography (ceramics and reliefs), and a comparaison with other monuments (treasuries, Macedonian tombs) allow a reconstruction of all in many cases . In addition to its functional aspect, door monumentalised has a strong symbolic impact as it separates the human world from the one of the gods. The study of the door is connected with the question of the access to the cella. We also consider the intercolumnation screens and various barriers that can be encountered in temples as they all are limits to the circulation within the building. The study will focus on the temple doors of the Archaic period to the Antonines constructions in aegean Greece. The choice of chronological and geographical limits of the subject was motivated by a desire for consistency and continuity. It will be a systematic analysis of the doors morphology and of the symbolic significance of the device in its architectural context and its role in the temple and sanctuary scenography and in the rituals

Full textAlthough they are widely used, classical vibration measurements have several limitations. Vibration analysis can only identify about 60% of the defects that may occur in mechanical systems. However, the main drawbacks of vibration measurements are the difficult access to the transmission system in order to place the sensor as well as the consequent cost of implementation. This results in sensitivity problems relative to the position of the installation and the difficulty to distinguish the source of vibration because of the diversity of mechanical excitations that exist in the industrial environment.Hence, the Motor Current Signatures Analysis (M.C.S.A.) represents a promising alternative to the vibration analysis and has therefore been the subject of increasing attention in recent years. Indeed, the analysis of electrical signatures has the advantage of being a technically accessible method as well as inexpensive and non-intrusive to the system. Techniques based on currents and voltages only require the motor’s electrical measurements which are often already supervised for the purposes of the control and the protection of the electrical machines. This process was mainly used for the detection of motors faults such as rotor bars breakage and eccentricity faults as well as bearings defects. On the other hand, very little research has been focused on gear faults detection using the current analysis. In addition, three-phase electrical signals are characterized by specific geometric representations related to their waveforms and they can serve as different indicators providing additional information. Among these geometric indicators, the Park and Concordia transforms model the electrical components in a two-dimensional coordinate system and any deviation from the original representation indicates the apparition of a malfunction. Moreover, the differential equations of Frenet-Serret represent the trajectory of the signal in a three-dimensional euclidean space and thus indicate any changes in the state of the system. Although they have been previously used for bearing defects, these indicators have not been applied in the detection of gear defects using the analysis of electrical current signatures. Hence, the innovative idea of combining these indicators with signal processing techniques, as well as classification techniques for gears diagnosis using the three-phase motor’s electrical current signatures analysis is established.Hence, in this work, a new approach is proposed for gear faults diagnosis using the motor currents analysis, based on a set of geometric indicators (Park and Concordia transforms as well as the properties of the Frenet-Serret frame). These indicators are part of a specifically built fault signatures library and which also includes the classical indicators used for a wide range of faults. Thus, a proposed estimation algorithm combines experimental measurements of electrical signals with advanced signal processing methods (Empirical Mode Decomposition, ...). Next, it selects the most relevant indicators within the library based on feature selection algorithms (Sequential Backward Selection and Principal Component Analysis). Finally, this selection is combined with non-supervised classification (K-means) for the distinction between the healthy state and faulty states. It was finally validated with a an additional experimental configuration in different cases with gear faults, bearing faults and combined faults with various load levels

Full textThe media have become a powerful tool in forming opinions, acquiring knowledge, learning about norms, values and subjectivities that to a certain extent influence how reality is perceived. As much as objectivity is proclaimed, the messages they convey are hardly neutral; they develop regimes of authenticity, and dispute multiple meanings about sexuality and gender. The dialogue between communication and gender implies not only reinforcing the critical view of the hegemonic modes transmitted by the media, but also adjusting the look on practices in the areas of education and training. It is important to know, among all the tools currently available, which ones the students use and which have the potential to be used in the classroom. In particular, video clips, whose visual and verbal components can inspire and motivate students, promote deeper learning, stimulate the flow of ideas and provide an opportunity for freedom of expression, among others, are included here. This study had the collaboration of 65 adolescents and youngsters in the 7th and 12th years of schooling. A first research question was considered: “In the didactic approach of the most widely viewed video clips by adolescents, which images of sexuality and gender are they able to collect?” Once images of sexuality and gender were identified, it was important to apprehend “What gender roles and stereotypes are emphasized in the video clips most viewed by young people?” and finally “How are the differences an (in)equalities expressed?” In an exploratory phase of the study, the researcher developed a questionnaire survey as a tool for collecting information that could, among other things, define cues to approach the object of study and survey the video clips more commonly watched by young people. Applying the questionnaire resulted in the selection of four video clips (“As Long As You Love Me ft. Big Sean,” “Try,” “Havemos de lá chegar”, the content of which was analysed. For each of them, the researcher prepared a report that included information such as format, recording, musical genre, duration, synopsis, structure of the video clip, the music-image-language relationship and survey of the possible contribution to gender inequality (stereotypes relating to personality traits or attributes, roles and/or physical characteristics). In order to record the opinions of the researcher and the young participants regarding the discourse presented in the video clips, four visualization/analysis scripts were prepared. Each script presents a set of activities, divided into four main blocks: “learning to see,” “understanding and analysing,” “interpreting and evaluating” and “transforming” (Díez Gutiérrez, 2004b). Although the narratives in the video clips are representations constructed by someone and do not correspond to reality (Pacheco, 2017), reading their discourse critically allowed each of the actors to give a meaning to what they saw (image), read (lyrics) and heard (music). As for the thematic axes identified by the participants, the focus is on affectivity (paternal, parental, erotic and sexual, friendship) and on love, on interpersonal relationships established in the work environment and on violence in affective and/or romantic relationships. It was also observed in the discourses analysed that stereotyped conceptions about the feminine/femininity/being a woman and male/masculinity/ being a man persist. Thus, it is up to women to be young, slim, beautiful, sensual, to achieve the requirements of contemporary physical beauty and attraction (Mota-Ribeiro, 2002a, 2002b; Castro, 2003; Campos, Cecílio & Penaforte, 2016; Teixeira & Marques, 2016) and wear skirts and dresses, tight and intimate clothes, as codes of seduction (Teixeira & Marques, 2016). Men should be tall, thin, young and muscular, as a muscular body, besides indicating masculinity, is synonymous with strength and virility (Januário, 2013); young as a “sign of narcissism and seduction” (Santos, 2017, p.140); tall and thin, because “a slender silhouette” is associated with recognition, status, personal, professional and social success” (Santos, 2017, p.141). If they intend to appear powerful, they must wear a long-sleeved suit or shirt, for clothing must be “commensurate with doing business” (Natt & Carrieri, 2016, p.120). The discourse was also found to refer to the psychological differences and characteristics of the personality, moral attributes of behaviour and personal skills. It places women in a situation of dependency and inferiority, perpetuates the roles traditionally attributed to men and women and unequal relations of power and promotes heteronormativity. This study helps to corroborate the idea that it is necessary to work on the issues of sexuality and gender conveyed in the discourse contained in video clips, so that it is not received passively, because the discourse is actually fraught with subjectivity. On the other hand, it was found that integrating video clips in the context of operationalizing sex education in schools is feasible, and it is possible to involve the different actors in the teaching and learning process and in raising young people’s awareness to the existence of stereotypes and social stigmas that contribute to accentuate inequalities between women and men

ABSTRACT: The results of the investigation and the statistics in education, on a national and international level, show us how important it is to transform the teaching and learning process of reading that might promote the pleasure to read, the motivation to have more knowledge and abilities in this domain and the value in the process of learning and progressing in this area. Sustained by current theoretical perspectives and curricular guidelines, we choose, in our practice, strategies that allowed us to reach the goals that were selected in view to deepen the abilities in reading, by children on a kindergarten or first cycle of basic education level, as well as their taste in reading. On this paper, we present all the work that was developed in that way, such as the context in which it took place, discussing the importance of pedagogical strategies that we used to reach the results we hoped to. At the end of this report, we conclude that learning in reading domain it becomes a better asset from an early age including different verbal domains (comprehension and oral exploration, comprehension and writing exploration); that strategies to promote should be able to help students to find the purpose in reading, and also recognize the goals of communication that can be associated to different types of texts; that students react positively to strategies and activities that appear out of their regular base classes, stimulating their curiosity and imagination; that reading activities get more interest by the children when they aren’t restrict to books and are complemented with another languages (audio, pictures, etc.) on which children may interact to; and that contact with reading outside of the classroom increases the interest and taste in reading (field trips to book fairs, libraries, bookstores, among others). Performing this report became an opportunity to grow personally and professionally and we believe that our pedagogical action created moments of learning and reflecting to both children and adults (our peers and colleagues) with whom we shared this work with.
