Abstract Use of generalized stochastic dominance (GSD) requires one to place lower and upper bounds on the risk aversion coefficient. This study showed that breakeven risk aversion coefficients found assuming the exponential utility function delineate the places where GSD preferences switch between prospects. However, between these break points, multiple, overlapping GSD intervals can be found. Consequently, when one does not have risk aversion coefficient information, discovery of breakeven coefficients instead of GSD use is recommended. The investigation also showed GSD results are insensiti

AbstractMost image segmentation techniques efficiently segment images with prominent edges, but are less efficient for some images with low frequencies and overlapping regions of homogeneous intensities. A recently proposed selective segmentation model often works well, but not for such challenging images. In this paper, we introduce a new model using the coefficient of variation as a fidelity term, and our test results show it performs much better in these challenging cases.

Abstract:
This chapter contributes to the study of uncertainty of signal dimensions within a microscopic image of blood sample. Appropriate colocalization indicator classifies the leukocytes in the region of interest having ragged boundaries. Signal transduction has been interpreted using correlation function determined fluorescence intensity in proposed work using just another colocalization plugin (JaCoP). Dependence between the channels in the colocalization region is being analysed in a linear fashion using Pearson correlation coefficient. Manders split, which gives intensity, is represented in a channel by co-localizing pixels. Overlap coefficients are also being analysed to analyse coefficient of each channel. Li's intensity correlation coefficient is being used in specific cases to interpret the impact of staining.

Abstract:
To justify texts, Arabic calligraphers use to stretch some letters with small flowing curves; the kashida instead of inserting blanks among words. Of course, such stretchings are context dependent. An adequate tool to support such writing may be based on a continuous mathematical model. The model has to take into account the motion of the qalam. The characters may be represented as outlines. Among the curves composing the characters outlines, some intersections are to be determined dynamically. In the Naskh style, the qalam‘s head behaves as a rigid rectangle in motion with a constant inclination. To determine the curves delimiting the set of points to shade when writing, we have to find out a mathematical way to compare plane curves. Moreover, as the PostScript procedure to produce a dynamic character, should be repeated whenever the letter is to draw, the development of a font supporting a continuous stretching model, allowing stretchable letters with no overlapping outlines, without optimization would be of a high cost in CPU time. In this chapter, some stretching models are given and discussed. A method to compare curves is presented. It allows the determination of the character encoding with eventually overlapping outlines. Then a way to approximate the curves intersection coefficients is given. This is enough to remove overlapping outlines. Some evaluations in time processing to confirm the adopted optimization techniques are also exposed.

Abstract:
In this article, a blind and robust medical image watermarking technique based on Finite Ridgelet Transform (FRT) and Singular Value Decomposition (SVD) is proposed. A host medical image is first transformed into 16 × 16 non-overlapping blocks and then ridgelet transform is applied on the individual blocks to obtain sets of ridgelet coefficients. SVD is then applied on these sets, to obtain the corresponding U, S and V matrix. The watermark information is embedded into the host medical image by modification of the value of the significant elements of U matrix. This proposed technique is tested on various types of medical images such as X-ray and CT scan. The simulation results revealed that this technique provides better imperceptibility, with an average PSNR being 42.95 dB for all test medical images. This technique also overcomes the limitation of the existing technique which is applicable on only the Region of Interest (ROI) of the medical image.

While it is widely recognized that ingestion of hot gas from the main annulus of axial gas turbine stages into rotor-stator disk cavities depend strongly on the unsteadiness of the prevailing flow field, the large computational effort needed to simulate the flow field renders its use in the design of turbine internal air system and seals difficult. As an alternative, considerable effort has been devoted in recent years to develop simple orifice models of disk cavity rim seals based on time-averaged flow information; these models contain empirical discharge coefficients for ingestion into and e

Choke valves are widely used in the oil&gas industry to control the fluid flowing in the system. Some of these valves rely on a “cage and sleeve” functioning, in which an outer, sliding sleeve controls the flow rate by overlapping the holes of an inner, fixed cage. The regulation characteristic of choke valves is typically quantified by the opening curve, which is the plot of the flow coefficient versus the valve opening. Experimental tests performed on a “cage and sleeve” choke valve revealed that the orientation of the holes of the cage affects significantly the flow coefficient. This wo
