Although J. Judd Owen's account of my work is on target in many ways, on some points he mischaracterizes my argument by making it claim or do too much. His misunderstandings flow in part from a conflating of two assertions: (1) that our convictions cannot be grounded in any independent source of authority and (2) that our convictions are ungrounded. The objective of the dissertation is to examine Young-Jo Lee's (b. 1943) musical language as exhibited in his piano composition, Variations on the theme of Baugogae. Subjects of discussion include Lee's use of direct and indirect musical borrowings from past European composers and traditional Korean folk idioms. Also included are a biographical sketch of the composer and historical overview of modern Korean composers. This dissertation investigates Lee's effort to synthesize traditional Korean music and Western music in one art form and ultimately, to create his own musical language.

The works of Serbian theologians of the second half of the 18th century are characterized by a confessional-polemic style, as their goal was to set the sacred doctrine and the organization of liturgical life. This polemic approach was also due to the unfortunate position of the Orthodox minorities within the Austrian Monarchy, exposed as they were to the pressure of the Catholic Church. Analysing the works of the leading Serbian theologians of the time (D. Novaković, J. Rajić, Z. Orfelin), the author explains how Serbian polemical theology was created and eventually found its own formal style.

Fracture toughness is often described by the J-integral or crack-tip opening displacement (CTOD) for ductile materials. ASTM, BSI and ISO have developed their own standard test methods for measuring fracture initiation toughness and resistance curves in terms of the J and CTOD using bending dominant specimens in high constraint conditions. The cast austenitic stainless steel (CASS) is used for the primary loop pipes of some PWR plants. It is known that these stainless steels are susceptible to thermal aging during plant operation. This material degradation decreases the fracture toughness (J-R curve) and increases the tensile strength, which affects the possibility of the fracture of the pipes.
