Abstract:
The survey of Ariassos, which we had begun in 1988, was completed between 24 August and 24 September 1990. The team members were Dr. Stephen Mitchell, Dr. Eddie Owens, Linda Keyes, and Ian Williams (University College of Swansea), Sabri Aydal (Antalya Museum). Ian Pollet and Danny Gysen (Leuven), Sarah Cormack (Yale), Armin Schulz (Münster), Claudia Rutherford (Oxford), and Yusuf Gül (Izmir Museum, representing the Turkish Department of Antiquities). Funds for the season were provided by the British Academy, the British Institute of Archaeology at Ankara, the Roman Society, and the Craven Committee. The student members of the group were also aided by travel grants from their various universities. The Institute at Ankara, as ever, provided invaluable logistic support, notably the use of a landrover, and I am particularly grateful to Chris Lightfoot for helping to arrange our accommodation before work began. Special thanks are due to our many friends in the small town of Bademaǧaç, notably to Ramazan Şener and his family and to Ayfer Orbay, our “landlady”.

Abstract:
College Management system is Salesforce CRM based application which is the new technical way to manage all department related jobs. Collage management system is helpful for students as well as the colleges. In the existing system all the activities are done manually. It is very costly and time consuming. In our proposed system, students can view results using phones. The data will be stored in the Salesforce. The Admin, Faculty or the student should be a register user. The faculty can login into their college account through the application itself and update the academic result like internal exam marks obtained by the students. In this system students have easy access for viewing the marks; the application will check user authentications. Students are not permitted to manipulate any data. The proposed work has two modules: A. Student B. Teacher C. Admin. In the student’s module, students need to register their university registration number, college registration number, student name. Admin module maintains the student’s marks of internal college exams. Other than this the advanced features are: In case of natural calamities such as floods, etc. notification to students will be sent from admin office through application directly. Any new notice for a particular semester will be uploaded by professor through application notifying to respective semester students. The students can download different subject notes according to their departments. The faculty of particular department is responsible for updating the assignments, updating the attendance of every student, updating the notification related to department.

Abstract:
Beginning in 1977, the leaders at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM) and Montefiore Medical Center (MMC) began to develop unifieddepartments combining the strengths at both campuses under a single department chair. The unification of the Department of Medicine was carried out under the leadership of Dr. Louis M. Sherwood in 1980. This step built upon the strength of the two Departments that had developed separately at MMC and AECOM during the previous era. During the 1980s and the 1990s, the subspecialty divisions, along with their training and research programs, were merged. Other changes evolved though that period, so that by the turn of the century many aspects of the Department of Medicine differed from its structure and function in 1980.

Abstract:
After several years of planning, the new Albert Einstein College of Medicine (AECOM) recruited its first class, of just 56 students, and began their instruction in the fall of 1955. This event took place in a not-yet-fully-outfitted Forchheimer building, which was then the only one of what later became a cluster of AECOM buildings. Across the street was the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center (BMHC, now Jacobi Medical Center, JMC), which was the original (and, for years, only) teaching hospital of the College. The evolution of the Department of Medicine at this new College, from its early stages – with 56 medical students, a small outstanding young faculty, one science building and one teaching hospital – to a world-renowned medical research and educational institution, with over 800 medical and doctoral students, numerous post-doctoral fellows and trainees, a large outstanding faculty, four major science buildings, and six major teaching hospital affiliates, is described.

Abstract:
The medicine we knew at the school’s beginning in 1955 was almost unrecognizable at the end of the twentieth century. The science, the knowledge base, the organization, and the funding of health care had all undergone dramatic changes. Fifty years ago, we thought we might be able to conquer infectious diseases. Now we are facing rampant ‘new’ diseases such as Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Severe AcuteRespiratory Syndrome (SARS), and are witnessing the development of resistance to antibiotics by many microorganisms, including the previously highly sensitive pneumococcus. Fifty years ago, cardiac surgery was still in its youth, and mitral commissurotomies were highpoints of surgical endeavor. Now, rheumatic heart disease is very uncommon in the United States (although still common in parts of the third world). Fifty years ago, we had only primitive antihypertensive drugs, which were difficult for patients to tolerate. Now, antihypertensivedrugs are far more effective and better tolerated by patients. Fifty years ago, the structure and mechanism of replication of DNA had just been described by Watson and Crick. Now, we are using therapeutic agents manufactured by recombinant techniques, and are beginning to see clinical applications of gene transfer therapy.

Surgeons have always played an integral role in the history of the Albany Medical Center and Albany Medical College. In addition to supporting vital patient care and teaching programs, the Department of Surgery has played an important administrative role providing the college with five deans. The origins of the Department of Surgery reach back to 1910 when the American Medical Association-sponsored Flexner report proposed dramatic changes in the structure and format of medical education in the United States. In response to the recommendations of the report, the medical center restructured its faculty and curriculum to meet the demands of a rapidly advancing profession. One result of this reorganization was the formation of the Department of Surgery in 1912. Dr. Arthur Elting was named the first Chair of the Department in 1915. This report will review the history of the Department, focusing on the eight surgeons who have served as Chair.

Abstract The sound insulation of walls made of different building materials was tested in various places from Tikrit University in Iraq, with a number of up to 14 walls, distributed in the Department of Environmental Engineering, the Department of Civil Engineering and Chemical Engineering, the Deanship of the College of Arts, the College of Education, the College of Arts, the Department of Psychology, and the Deanship of the College of Computer. It was found through the results that the highest value of sound insulation was obtained for the wall of sequence 13, which amounted to 44.86 dB, but it is for a wall built of thermiston material, and this indicates that thermiston gave the greatest value for sound insulation. The study showed that there are building materials for other walls that can give excellent sound insulation, which is a material republican bricks covered with wood and walls built of sandwich material with a thickness of 10 cm and walls concrete coated with PVC, as well as sandwich walls with a thickness of 7 cm, reaching. The highest values for the rest of the sound insulation results for the top five values were (38.6, 38.43, 37.13, 34, 33.76) dB decibel. The results showed that the perforated brick is no doubt excellent sound insulation and proof of that all the walls built of perforated bricks provided insulation Excellent sound with the rest of the additional isolators used. The study also showed that for the walls of the sandwich panels, with the increase in thickness, the value of sound insulation increases. Where the value of sound insulation (38.43 dB, 34 dB and 30.36 dB) for walls with thickness (10cm, 7cm and 5cm) respectively. Finally, it is important to mention that the lowest value of the measured sound insulation for measured walls was 23.23 decibels, but for a brick wall from the outside of the squirt spreading cement and from the inside with plaster and borax in the College of Engineering - Department of Environmental Engineering building.

Abstract:
Brian Blundell Boycott was an outstanding zoologist and neurobiologist. His early research (1947–52), at the Anatomy Department of University College London and at the Stazione Zoologica in Naples, Italy, was on learning and memory in cephalopods and the functional architecture of the octopus brain. From 1952 to 1970 he was a teacher of zoology and later neurobiology at University College London (Zoology Department). Brian's research interests changed in the early 1960s, when he began studying the mammalian retina. Over a period of 35 years he produced many seminal papers that laid the foundation for our modern understanding of the cell types and synaptic connections that form the basis of parallel processing in the retina. In 1970 Brian moved to the Medical Research Council (MRC) Biophysics Unit at King's College London, from which he retired as Director at the end of 1989. He continued to be an active researcher at Guy's Hospital Medical School (1990–97) and in the Institute of Ophthalmology, University College London (1997–2000). Brian was a modest and kind person, generous in sharing ideas and material; he liked to interact and cooperate with other people and was very supportive of young scientists.

Abstract:
Dancers often view injuries as a necessary sacrifice for participating in their art form. The purpose of this research was to determine the frequency and patterns of injury in a non-conservatory, liberal arts dance environment. These data may enable dance departments to provide more effective health resources. METHODS: Dancers registered in technique courses in a liberal arts dance department (including ballet, modern, tap, and jazz) completed an injury questionnaire immediately following the occurrence of any dance-related injury over the course of one semester. RESULTS: Out of 168 students registered in the department, 46 injuries were reported throughout the semester. The greatest rate of injury was in September and December with 0.95 and 0.65 injuries reported per day, respectively. 89.1% of participants indicated that they would use a direct-access, on-campus physical therapist or athletic trainer if available, though 45.7% of injured participants indicated that they would seek treatment off campus. CONCLUSIONS: Dancers in a liberal arts collegiate program may train at a higher intensity during the semester than summer break, which likely accounts for the high incidence of injury in September. Of those injured, most planned on self-treating, but none planned on missing class. Pre-semester screening and post-semester cross-training education should be implemented in liberal arts dance programs to help decrease the rate of injury seen when returning to dance following prolonged time off from dancing. Additionally, direct access to physical therapy or athletic training treatment would likely be utilized by these students if available.

Abstract:
Many members of the medical profession in Mobile, Alabama, have exemplified a strong commitment to the education of their colleagues and successors, a tradition (L., traditio, “to hand over”) that dates from the early 18th century. The Mobile General (city/county) Hospital (1830 to 1970) and its successor, the Medical Center, University of South Alabama (1971 to the present), were the institutional foci of those endeavors. Because it is individuals who create, design, and vitalize institutions, this monograph is an acknowledgment of the accomplishments of those who gave that endeavor purpose, direction, and meaning, particularly with reference to the evolution of surgical education. Numerous clinical and societal forces—cultural, economic, political, and social—influenced that evolution. This compilation gives attribution to a legacy of commitment to health and medical/surgical care, education, and research within southern Alabama.

Abstract:
The American Physiological Society (APS) and APS Council encourage the teaching of physiology at the undergraduate, graduate, and medical school levels to support the continued prominence of this area of science. One area identified by the APS Council that is of particular importance for the development of future physiologists (the “physiology pipeline”) is the teaching of physiology and physiology-related topics at the undergraduate level. In this article, we describe the historical development and implementation of an undergraduate program offered through the Department of Physiology, a basic science department in the College of Medicine at the University of Arizona, culminating in a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences degree with a major in Physiology. Moreover, we discuss the current Physiology curriculum offered at our institution and explain how this program prepares our students for successful entry into a variety of postbaccalaureate professional programs, including medical school and numerous other programs in health professions, and in graduate study in the Masters and Doctoral programs in biomedical sciences. Finally, we cover the considerable challenges that we have faced, and continue to face, in developing and sustaining a successful physiology undergraduate major in a college of medicine. We hope that the information provided on the Physiology major offered by the Department of Physiology in the College of Medicine at the University of Arizona will be helpful for individuals at other institutions who may be contemplating the development and implementation of an undergraduate program in Physiology.
