At the limits of nuclear stability, increasing proton-neutron asymmetry leads to a shifting of orbitals from nuclear shell model predictions. In turn this leads to a weakening of shell gaps such as at N = 20, and the emergence of new gaps at N = 14 and 16. To observe this evolution of the structure as the neutron dripline is approached, single-nucleon removal reactions have been employed for oxygen and fluorine isotopes. Atomic and electronic structures of the reconstructed InAs(111)A-(2*2) surface are studied within den-sity functional theory. The most stable adsorption positions of oxygen and fluorine on the surface are de-termined. Our calculations show that oxygen adsorption leads to appearance of electronic states in band gap and the structure of these surface states strongly depends on adsorption geometry. An increase of oxy-gen concentration and its coadsorption with fluorine leads to substantial structural changes in the surface and subsurface layers due to adsorbate penetration into semiconductor. The metal anions were formed via electrospray ionization of the metal-oxalate solutions and form in gas phase between the capillary and the first quadrupole. Besides the synthesis of structures involving different oxidation states, the stable phases were identified by means of ex-situ powder X-ray diffraction as well as in-situ high temperature oxidation. For the synthesis of Sc4/3V2/3O3 (Sc2VO4.5) and Sc2VO5 optimized methods are presented for the formation of a cubic bixbyite-type and tetragonal phase, respectively.
