Studies comparing two technological institutes in Mercosul -The Industrial Technologic Institute, in Argentina, and the Technological Research Institute, in Brazil - focus on management projects in research and Development, in institutional level. Through the literature, it is identify, areas and subjects that allow the analyses of institutional management R&D projects (IMRDP). The history of the two institutes was study to identify the similarity and the differences of them. The field research is composed by an interview which was framed through literature subjects and documents in the following topics: general vision and IMRDP operations in the institutes; institutional management; process effectives results; people´s communication involved with projects and the institution; experiences acquired in the institutions. Of all interviews, one quarter was directed to high management, one quarter to functional gerency and two quarter to project managers. The discussion results, thanks to the methodology and schedule, determined that institutions did not have IMRDP, although both institutions considered the importance of its implementation. It was clear that the IMRDP structure, in any institution, have to consider the institutional culture, history, staff, structure and market, even though there are similar subjects and areas between the two institutions.

This work suggests an adaptation of Silva & Santiago (2009) model for treat projects with guaranteed market share and we intend to apply it to analyze a R&D project, which is incubated by CRITT at UFJF. Moreover, some critics were made about authors' model, such as the inflexibility of some parameters and the insensitivity of costs on time and product/technology performance, when most costs of the companies are fixed. To ride out these problems some sensitivity tests were performed to guarantee higher reliability of the results: (i) analysis of the success probability; (ii) analysis of the parameters of shape and scale; (iii) analysis of the standard deviation of time. With respect to the project that we studied (the HBDO), it was more promising over multiple uncertainties, presenting a value higher than that calculated by traditional analysis. With respect to sensitivity analysis performed, it was observed that the sensitized parameters had a significantly impact on the project value, which indicate that a careful analysis should be done for those. Furthermore, an analysis of the project value with the time following a uniform distribution was performed too and it showed lower values than those estimated previously with triangular distribution. It also showed the same previous conclusions about the importance of considering the uncertainties in the valuation analysis. Finally, we concluded that the analysis of the valuation of R&D projects is still a challenge and, therefore, the development and/or improvement of models that capture the uncertainty and managerial flexibility faced by the managers, justifies the choice of this study.

Science and technology are directly related to the development of a country. The research and development projects at CNEN are financed by the direct resources of the budget of the Union and of the Development Agencies such as FINEP and CNPq. In general, project managers believe they can succeed when they complete a project within the programmed schedule, budget, and anticipated requirements, which is commonly known as a "triple constraint" or "iron triangle." However, in the review of the literature, other criteria for evaluation of success in projects, such as the benefits generated by society, the development of the team's capabilities, future opportunities, new technologies, among others, were verified. Faced with this question, seeking to assist the manager in the evaluation of this typology of projects, the research proposed a model with criteria and requirements based on the literature review and sought through a questionnaire to measure the degrees of importance and use of these criteria with the specialists of CNEN , Which act directly in the execution of these projects. The results showed that the criteria proposed in the model have a high degree of importance, with a decrease in relation to the use, indicating that the criteria used in the model can help managers in the evaluation of this type of project.

Abstract:
This work studies the R&D project portfolio composition process in cases of the Brazilian tangible products industry. For this purpose, a bibliographic review was done, and then, an holistic multi-case exploratory study, to identify the procedures, criteria and participants involved in the process, as well as the difficulties faced. A study presents a research reference model, constructed from the theory contributions, and involves several approaches of the portfolio composition process. The model is also useful as a framework for data collection, classification, analysis and comparison, and provides the flexibility needed for developing this kind of research. The study shows that the project portfolios result from a process where the project portfolio assessment is mostly informal or doesn?t exist. Additionally, the study shows that the process involves participants of several hierarchical levels in companies, where each participant contributes in a direct or indirect way, in decisions of the portfolio composition process decisions. Finally, the results identify that reliable and complete data collection, resources distribution and bureaucracy are the main difficulties faced along the process.

Abstract:
This paper aims to understand the dynamics involved in the project management at IPEN. To reach this goal, the method chosen was research along with academic literature of models that could serve as a base that after modifications and adjustments could reflect the reality of projects from the Public Institute of Research & Development. After undergoing statistical treatment of the data, some hypotheses were validated and showed positive influence on the project management performance, such as the influence of people who make up the teams, the leadership effect, among others. In fact, the model was found to be valid in explaining which factors are relevant for the success of the projects. One of the main goals was exactly the use of the project management evaluation model, submitted to statistical validation and not to use one available on the market, such as the P3M3 and OPM3, in order to assure the statistical control and confirmation of the results. Another goal was to use a model whose statements reflected the nature of the Research & Development project managed by researchers at IPEN. In fact, the aforementioned statements were formulated and sent via a web survey and answered by almost one hundred IPEN professionals who work on R&D projects. The following dissertation, along with the recommendations at the end, was included to serve as contribution to work developed by the IPEN Project Offices. The evaluation model included in this paper can be applied in other R&D organizations in Brazil, to evaluate the way their projects are managed.

Abstract

Problem: The desire for development in less privileged countries like Uganda has created the need for the privileged countries like Sweden to embark on external knowledge transfer through different projects, as one of the objectives to achieve development. However, some factors tend to limit the success of this external knowledge transfer process.

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to find out the factors that lead to the barriers and limitations of knowledge transfer in development projects. Since there are differences in objectives between nonprofit and profit making projects, the research is also aimed at highlighting the extent to which the affecting factors hinder the achievement of objectives and goals.

Method: Qualitative methods were used in this research. Telephone interviews were conducted after sending questionnaires to four respondents from different organizations that were actively involved in the projects. In order to have balanced results, two respondents each from Uganda and Sweden were interviewed. Trustworthiness and ethical issues were put into consideration while conducting the interviews, in a bid to create a desirable atmosphere for conducting the study.

Result: External knowledge transfer is affected by factors like culture, individual factors, and knowledge management factors. Apart from the mentioned factors, research found that instead of organizational factors that would affect profit making projects to a greater extent, factors like the political will, ownership and local needs are the ones that affect development projects.

Conclusion: The factors that affect the external knowledge transfer process are to a greater extent human, and are controllable. In development projects, the recipient country should identify the needs that would initiate the external knowledge transfer process. Most of the affecting factors would be controlled through building of relationships and strong ties, local ownership, and political considerations. All this put into consideration, external knowledge transfer between developed and developing countries stand a high chance to succeed.

Abstract:
Employees affected by burnout syndrome often experience reduced engagement and decreased job performance, costing their organizations through lost productivity and profit. However, it is not clear what causes employee burnout in working environments. The purpose of this correlation study was to examine the relationships between project cost, project team member role, project schedule, and project team member burnout. This study was grounded in the job demands-resources theory, which states that all employees experience demands in their work that may lead to long-term stress and eventually burnout syndrome if these demands are not mitigated by job resources. The population for this study consisted of project management team members located in the Southern United States. The research question for this study examined the relationships among project cost, project team member role, project schedule, and burnout of project team members. A survey provided the data for analysis (N = 159). Study data were evaluated using correlational analysis. Multiple linear regression results indicated no significant relationships existed between project cost, project team member role, project schedule, and the 3 constructs of burnout syndrome: cynicism, exhaustion, and professional efficacy. This study may contribute to social change by increasing awareness of what contributes to employee burnout. This research is relevant to project management team members and business leaders. Burnout leads to reduced employee engagement, lost profit for the business, and health impairment for burned out employees. Project teams and business leaders would benefit by incorporating information from this study in programs designed to reduce, mitigate, or eliminate burnout among project management personnel.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Successful research and development is critical in ensuring firms continue to meet customer needs and stay ahead of their competition. Hundreds of billions of dollars are spent every year on these R&D pursuits. It may seem logical that the more money a company spends on R&D, the more successful they will be. However, multiple studies have shown there is no significant correlation between a firm's R&D expenditures and its financial performance. The key to effective R&D is not how much a firm spends, but how well the money is spent. There are two sides of doing R&D effectively-doing the right projects and doing projects right. This thesis focuses primarily on the first side, creating a process to help a company choose the best projects to pursue. A significant amount of literature exists in this area, however that literature mostly focuses on R&D performed at original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). For OEMs, R&D is the first step in a product development process where the company has the ultimate decision over the form their product takes. This thesis expands on that literature to focus on R&D project selection for firms that act as suppliers to OEMs. Suppliers performing R&D are faced with significant additional challenges due to the OEM having final say over the product configuration. Suppliers have uncertainties about whether they are pursuing the right technology along with whether they will actually win business to utilize that technology. This fact often forces suppliers to adopt a conservative R&D strategy with a fairly secure likelihood of adoption over speculative R&D that might not come to fruition. Because every company and every industry is different and has different priorities for their R&D activities, there is no single process that will work at every company to help them choose a better portfolio of R&D projects. Instead, this thesis presents a set of guidelines that can be used to help companies (especially suppliers with conservative R&D strategies) design their own process. Along with those guidelines, a case study is presented based on implementing an R&D project selection process at Spirit AeroSystems. The process that was implemented, along with problems encountered with that process and ideas for further improvements are discussed. Lessons learned from Spirit AeroSystems can further be utilized to help companies create better project selection processes.

Putting the emphasis on the part played by tradition, a good education and a natural bent towards arts, his precepts are made obvious in the pictures he painted thankd to the fine mingling of both his intellectual exactness and his bright imagination, and thay come to a masterpiece such as concieved by the italian masters of the quattrocento. In other respects, he develops the idea of functionalism in the beauty of objects and underlines that the latter does not exist as such but is shaped thanks to the combined efforts of the body and the mind. Vigier, Mary. "Interaction in multicultural project-team meetings : managing the formative stages." Thesis, University of Warwick, 2015. http://wrap.warwick.ac.uk/69997/.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis explores how newly-formed, short-term, multicultural project teams develop ways to manage their interactions in project-team meetings. The research took place within a management integration programme at a multinational company in France. A number of models have been proposed in international business on international teamwork (e.g. small group development processes, international team life-cyles, features of internal team functioning). However, these models provide little or no detail on the interactional processes that team members experience as they move through the different stages of development. Research within applied linguistics and education, on the other hand, provides frameworks for analysing interactional processes. For example, frameworks such as ‘activity types’ and ‘communication of practice’ have posited that communication is regulated by a system of rules and norms as to the expected interpersonal and verbal behaviour. However, when new teams are forming, appropriate behavioural practices need to be created for teams to be operationally effective. Yet, little or no research has explored how this occurs within international teams. In my research I aim to fill this gap by examining the interactional processes of international teams during their formative stages. Using an ethnographic-like case-study method to examine three teams, this study explores the interaction processes that occurred as team members learned to work together, the similarities and differences in the establishment of these processes across teams and the factors that were perceived as playing an influencing role. Key findings from the research are that establishing rules and setting up roles were beneficial to teamwork, while language differences rather hindered operational effectiveness. Other factors that affected the project-team workshops across all teams appeared to be interpersonal team relations and corporate culture and values.

The objective of this thesis is the study of the unconscious value of the liquid element in marcel proust's "a la recherche du temps perdu" (rtp), starting with the theme of the aquarium. This research stands on a psychanalytic approach to a litterary text and refers to the method invented by professor jean bellemin-noel. The rtp's aquarium is an imaginary space, transparent, closed in a general way but not systematically shut in. It is filled with artificial water, either fresh or marine, in which bathes a simpling of an amphibian population of varied origins : terrestrial, marine, or mythological. This aquarium secretes a damp and sparkling atmosphere, and exhales a sensation of deep azure, coolness and pleasure. The image of the aquarium happens to be subjacent to several key spots where the rtp takes place. The rtp appears to be deeply tied up to the themes of nourishment and of women. As a matter of fact, the aquarium is the structure that reveals the narrator's intimate life and with which his hidden conflict between the desire for his mother and her inacessibility can be expressed. In this respect, it not only has the appeal of a luminous universe but also opens on to disquieting depths. A solution of compromise, the aquarium is in short, the symbol of the failure whose ascertainty may be the decisive resort that leads the narrator to undertake his written work

Vicentini, Francesca <1982&gt. "Antecedents and consequences of individual flexibility in project-based organizations." Doctoral thesis, Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, 2011. http://amsdottorato.unibo.it/3781/.

Abstract:
In the last decades, the increasing significance of “projectivization” (Lundin & Steinthórsson, 2003) has stimulated considerable interest in project-based organizations as new economic actors able to introduce a new logic of organizing work and weakening boundaries in favour of networks of collaborations. In these contexts, work is often delegated to project teams. Deciding whom to put on a project team is one of the biggest challenges faced by a project manager; in particular which characteristics rely on to compose and match effective teams. We address this issue, focusing on the individual flexibility (Raudsepp, 1990), as team composition variable that affects project team performance. Thus, the research question investigated is: Is it better to compose project teams with flexible team members or not flexible project team members to achieve higher levels of project performance? The temporary nature of PBOs involves that after achieving the purpose for which team members are enrolled, they are disbanded but their relationships remain, allowing them to be involved in future projects (Starkey, Barnatt & Tempest, 2000). Pre-existing relationships together with the current relationships create a network of relationships that yields some implications for project teams as well as for team members. We address this issue, exploring the following research question: To what extent is the individual flexibility influenced by the network structure? The conceptual framework is used to articulate the research questions investigated with respect to the Television drama serials production. Their project-team organizing combined with their capacity to dissolve and recreate over time make it an interesting field to develop. We contribute to the organizational literature, providing a clear operationalization of individual flexibility construct and its role on affecting project performance. Second, we contribute to the organizational network literature addressing the effects yielded by the network structure-structural holes and network closure- on the individual flexibility.

Behn, N. "Communication and quality of life outcomes in people with acquired brain injury following project-based treatment." Thesis, City, University of London, 2016. http://openaccess.city.ac.uk/15198/.

Full text
Abstract:
Communication impairments are common following acquired brain injury (ABI) and have a significant impact on a person’s quality of life (QOL) post-injury. While some treatments have improved communication skills, few have measured QOL, and even fewer have shown improved QOL for people with ABI following communication-based treatments. Project-based treatment is an alternative treatment approach that could have an impact on communication skills and QOL for people with ABI who are long-term post-injury. The treatment is embedded in a context of meaningful activities chosen by people with brain injury, whereby, as a group, they work collaboratively to plan and achieve a concrete goal or outcome that contributes others and/or the wider community. Project-based treatment has not been empirically evaluated for people with ABI. More specifically, no research has evaluated whether projects can improve both communication skills and QOL in people with ABI. Therefore, this research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of project-based treatment on the communication skills and QOL for people with ABI. An exploratory study was designed as a prospective quasi-randomised controlled trial with pre, post and follow-up assessments, using mixed methods, and feasibility testing to investigate the effect of project-based treatment. Twenty-one people with ABI were recruited from community settings, allocated to either a TREATMENT (n=11) or WAITLIST group (n=10). Treatment was completed over 6 weeks and comprised an individual session (to set specific communication goals with the person with ABI and their communication partner), followed by nine sessions conducted in groups of 2-3 people. These sessions involved a range of meaningful activities chosen by people with ABI that contributed to a tangible end product designed to help others (e.g. video, pamphlet, radio podcast, piece of art). Mixed methods were used to determine the effect of the treatment on people with ABI. The primary communication outcomes were: (1) Blind ratings of the person with ABI’s conversations on the Interaction and Transaction scales of the Adapted Measure of Participation in Conversation (MPC). The secondary communication outcomes were: (1) Blind ratings of the communication partner’s involvement in conversations on the Acknowledging and Revealing Competence scales of the Adapted Measure of Support in Conversation (MSC); (2) Blind ratings for the Impression scales that described how appropriate, rewarding, effortful, and interesting a conversation was; (3) La Trobe Communication Questionnaire (LCQ) as rated by the person with ABI, and their communication partner; and (4) Goal Attainment Scaling (GAS). The primary QOL outcome was the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS), and the secondary QOL outcome was the Quality of Life in Brain Injury (QOLIBRI) measure. The qualitative data was drawn from semi-structured interviews conducted post-treatment. The first set of analyses for the primary and secondary outcome measures, compared the TREATMENT group with the WAITLIST group over two time points, between which only the TREATMENT group had received the treatment. This showed that people with ABI in the TREATMENT group had improved Interaction scores on the MPC, their communication partners had improved Revealing Competence scores on the MSC, and the conversation was perceived as less effortful, compared to the WAITLIST group. No changes were found for the remaining communication outcomes, or the QOL outcomes. The second analyses compared pre-treatment, post-treatment, and follow-up scores across all people with ABI (i.e. scores for both the TREATMENT and WAITLIST group were combined). This showed significant changes for communication partners on the MSC and LCQ, and significant achievement of communication goals on GAS, as rated by both the person with ABI, and their communication partners. Significant improvement on the QOLIBRI was found, with a trend towards significance on the SWLS. No other significant changes were found. Qualitative data was analysed using content analysis where the content and context of the interview transcripts were analysed and themes identified. People with ABI described overwhelmingly positive experiences of the treatment, the group, the project, and working on goals. They also described a range of positive benefits including improved awareness and skill, and positive feelings. Project-based treatment made modest improvements to both communication skills, and QOL. Moreover, people with ABI perceived positive experiences, and benefited from inclusion in the treatment. While this study was an exploratory trial, with feasibility testing, the results highlight that this treatment could be a potential alternative to other treatments available to people with ABI.

Abstract:
Despite their recognized significance for project success and innovation, the management of the early project phases is still an under-researched area in project management. For organizations to secure a continuous stream of innovation, the utilization of capabilities is crucial for managing the early phases of R&D projects. The purpose of this dissertation is to advance the understanding of the management of the early project phases in hypercompetitive environments. The thesis addresses the research question of how organizations manage the early project phases of R&D in hypercompetitive environments for frequent innovation by taking a dynamic capabilities perspective. The first conceptual study reviews the literature covering organizational change in hypercompetitive environments with a focus on projects as the vehicle to create the necessary flexibility. The study found that organizational aspects and capabilities have to go hand in hand as enabler and facilitator for a successful emergent change process. The second qualitative study investigates how organizations organize the early project phases of R&D in the pharmaceutical industry for an outcome of frequent innovation. The findings show that an optimization of combinative capabilities that balances dynamic, project and multi-project capabilities can be used as a powerful leverage to boost the outcome of frequent innovation. The third study investigates the philosophical stances and related methodologies used within the last 15 years of project management research at the example of IRNOP conferences. The findings show that ontological subjectivism and epistemological interpretivism are dominating. Moreover, case studies and qualitative methods were the most common methods, whereas mixed method studies were lacking despite their value for developing an increasingly complex research field. The final mixed method study explores how absorptive, innovative and adaptive capabilities within the early phases of pharmaceutical R&D affect project and portfolio performance. Based on the results of quantitative study, the set of capabilities has an overall effect on the set of performance outcomes and thus confirms the results of the qualitative study that a distinct capability mix is needed in the pharmaceutical R&D process. To conclude, the dissertation has comprehensively explored the management of the early project phases through four studies and by applying a multitude of methodologies.

Abstract:
The study aims at providing a framework conceptualizing patenting activities under the condition of intellectual property rights fragmentation. Such a framework has to deal with the interrelated problems of technological complexity in the modern patent landscape. In that respect, ex-post licensing agreements have been incorporated into the analysis. More precisely, by consolidating the right to use patents required for commercialization of a product, private market solutions, such as cross-licensing agreements and patent pools help firms to overcome problems triggered by the intellectual property rights fragmentation. Thereby, private bargaining between parties as such cannot be isolated from the legal framework. A result of this analysis is that policies ignoring market solutions and only focusing on static gains can mitigate the dynamic efficiency gains as induced by the patent system. The evidence found in this thesis supports the opinion that legal reforms that aim to decrease the degree of patent protection or to lift it all together can hamper the functioning of the current system.

In response to the globalizing queerness argument and the cultural specificity argument in queer cultural studies, this thesis examines the emerging modern queer identity and culture in the contemporary People’s Republic of China (PRC) in an intercultural context. Recognizing Chinese queer culture as an unstable, transforming and complex collection of congruent and/or contesting meanings, not only originated in China but also traveling across cultures, this thesis aims to exorcise the reified images of Chinese queers, or tongzhi, to contribute to the understanding of a dynamic construction of Chinese queerness at the turn of a new century, and to lend insight on the complicity of the elements at play in this construction by analyzing the underground films with queer content made in the PRC.

The objective of this work is to understand the localization of the European and the Chinese enterprises within the framework of globalization; The research is founded on three principal parts : a) the theoretical contribution with trade, IDE and globalization ; b) the principal determinants of offsourcing and localization between the European and the Chinese enterprises ; c) the activities of the enterprises localized and the consequences caused in the host countries and the countries of origin. The european enterprises, localized in China are generally attracted by the comparative advantages of this country like the low cost of labour and an immense domestic demand. The Chinese enterprises are interested to purchase the European enterprises since they could quickly control the leading-edge technology, the famous brands and the distribution network. China profited a lot from the localization of the European enterprises (the progression of technology), but it also encounters serious problems (the shortage of the raw materials). In the european countries, the localization of the enterprises in the foreign countries caused some problems such as the fall of industrial employment. Moreover, the arrival of the chinese enterprises cannot play an important role as regards creation of employment and reduction of the deficit on the side of the European Union. In conclusion, the challenges and the obstacles met in the host countries can leave the European and the Chinese enterprises to think about their strategies of localization

Abstract:
Using certain practices for managing projects is a critical factor in successfully executing projects. For a firm where there are few set practices by the organization for managing projects, project managers have to create their own practices with varying degrees of success. Experienced project managers often have had plenty of time to develop fully functioning practices whereas new project managers struggle to find any practice to use. This thesis examines how learning from previous projects at Saab Dynamics can improve the project management practices project risk management and intra-project communication. Further, this thesis proposes how Saab Dynamics can improve continuous risk management and intra-project communication. A qualitative approach is utilized for this thesis where the data is collected from five separate interviews with project managers from various development projects at Saab Dynamics. The result from the interviews partly contains successful practices used by project managers, such as how to integrate sub-projects or how to manage risks continuously, but also highlights issues for the projects. These findings are analyzed by applying relevant research from the fields of learning in project-based organizations, project risk management and intra-project communication which resulted in a discussion and conclusion providing various recommendations for Saab Dynamics to improve each project management practice. Key findings include that functions are needed to facilitate learning and how post-project reviews need to be structured to transfer tacit knowledge into explicit knowledge, where focus needs to be on documenting using stories. Further, this thesis utilizes a model for risk maturity with five steps where only the top two allow for continuous risk management. To progress to these steps the importance of building a risk culture is recognized where the issue is in communicating the set process of risk management to project managers. Here, having a risk manager is identified as important. Intra-project communication focuses on the areas of information distribution, sub-project integration and communication planning. It was found that the information distribution needs to be balanced between forced and voluntary communication. Moreover, five mechanisms for integration are covered where some are more important for complex projects and some during high uncertainty. Lastly, a model for a communication plan is presented.

Abstract:
Project finance is a debt finance and risk allocation technique. In Mexico, contracts of this nature mostly arise as a result of a government procurement process. In such projects, there is a limited amount of freedom for the negotiation of the contractual terms and conditions.
Contracts for the engineering, procurement and construction of power plants implemented under the project finance structure are subject to the ordinary law of contracts as opposed to the administrative law which may place the government in a stronger bargaining position. Regardless of the application of the private or administrative law the principle of autonomy of will may seem to be relegated to a secondary level in these transactions. Given this aspect it is interesting to evaluate what role the parties play in negotiating the contract in order to establish whether freedom of contract is a mere fiction in such transactions.

Abstract:
Bad or failing projects drain organisational resources in vain, affect team morale, and are a detriment to corporate strategy. Theimportance of terminating a project that will not deliver as promised canhardly be overemphasized, however it is still a major managerial challenge. Throughout this papera call is made toidentify andterminate failing projectsvia a benefit realisation management process, as successful projectsare only those thatdeliver the expected benefits. Thus, the research question to answer is:How can benefit realisation management aid in deciding when to terminate a project? The purpose of this study is to understand project termination and its relationship with benefits realisation management in the case of IT and R&D projects. This is done by tacking a critical realist view in an abductive process that goes back and forth between the merge of existing theories and data collected, which will result in a conceptual model that integrates project termination decision making into a benefit realisation management process. In this research project termination is defined as: the cancellation and cessation of a project prior the completion of its intended activities; while benefit realisation management is conceived as: a set of processes that ensure projects, programmes, and portfolios delivervalue via verifying they are realising their intended goals and benefits. From the literature, the projects analysed and the model drawn, it was understood that benefit realisation management has to be conceived as a monitoring and evaluation process on the project performance in relation to its intended benefit. The howto do so, is our model: a total of 8 steps that go from the conception of the business strategy to the post mortem evaluation of a project. Each step includes different essential activities that hypothetically lead to the correct decision. This, requires active participation and communication from the primary stakeholders, focus on the organisational strategy and the reason why the project was started in addition to a well-defined goal with a clear way of measurement. The when is approached as the moment in time where the termination decision making process should start. A stimulus, a difference between the expected standard and the project performance trend, is what triggers the recognition that a termination decision might be needed and therefore starts the whole decision-making process. Hence, it is recommended to pay special attention to three moments in the project life that might give a clearer indication: 1) the completion and approval of the business-case, as most errors can already be spotted at this point, 2) the testing phase of the solution, being often the point where success is easier to predict and 3) on the submission of the deliverables, as their quality reflect the quality of the future product.

Abstract:
In this work we prove the existence of nonnegative solution for variations the following nonlinear elliptic problem of (p; q)-laplacian type: pu qu = h(x; u) x 2 RN; where 1 < q p < N; mu := div(jrujm2ru) is the m-Laplacian operator and and the nonlinearity h : RN R ! R is a function satisfying some hypotheses.
Neste trabalho, provamos a exist^encia de uma solução nãoo negativa e não trivial para variações do seguinte problema elíptico do tipo (p; q)-Laplaciano: pu qu = h(x; u) x 2 RN; em que 1 < q p < N; mu := div(jrujm2ru) é o operador m-Laplaciano e h : RN R ! R e uma func~ao n~ao linear satisfazendo hipóteses descritas ao longo do trabalho.

Our aim is to understand, analyze and evaluate the Àlber Project in dynamic interaction with Educ-arte – Educa (r) t as a means of educational change, from the polyphony of voices of the people involved, especially from pupils. We show that Àlber Project has been developing since 2001-02 in terms of instability of the professionals, because it has placed the homeostatic stability in: a stable school management team, aptitudes and attitudes of professionals, typical classroom activities and hybrid space. We collected PV data of the first set of pupils that have taken part in Àlber Project since the beginning of their schooling. This led us to orient our research objectives to improve what we do. Therefore the investigation was structured as action-research. We aim at moving away from hierarchical research towards the rhizome. The findings show that Àlber Project generates rhizomatic growth and thought. All these processes favoured go beyond and show the characteristics and indicators of educational change which are more rhizomatic and complex.

Assigning project leaders a particular type of project that matches their personal traits may improve project performance. This study examines the relationship between an R&D project leader’s personal traits (creative personality and cognitive style), type of project, and project performance. Data from 205 R&D project leaders of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) and their performance evaluations on various types of project were analyzed. Research projects were classified based on two dimensions, open vs. closed questions and proactive vs. reactive motivation. Project leaders’ personal traits were assessed by the Kirton’s Adaptor-Innovator Inventory, and Myers-Briggs Cognitive Type Indicator. Results showed that project leaders high on KAI’s originality score achieved better results on self-proposed projects with open questions. In contrast, those high on KAI’s conformity score performed better on assigned projects with closed questions. Researchers with a judging orientation as measured by MBTI also performed better when working on assigned research projects with closed questions. While those high on intuitive cognitive style performed better on self-initiated projects with open questions, researchers high on sensing style performed better on assigned projects with open questions. Finally, on the thinking vs. feeling dimension, researchers with a feeling orientation performed better on assigned projects with closed questions.

The main purpose of this paper is to discuss H^p(R^n × R^m) boundedness of Calderon-Zygmund operators. We apply vector-valued singular integral, Calderon''s identity, Littlewood-Paley theory and the almost orthogonality together with Fefferman''s rectangle atomic decomposition and Journe''s covering lemma to show that T is bounded on product H^p(R^n × R^m) for max{n/(n+ε),m/(m+ε)} <p<=1 if and only if T*_{1}(1)=T*_{2}(1)=0, where ε is the regularity exponent of the kernel of T.
