Abstract:

The current research studies the wages of foreign prisoners of war (P.O.W.s) who worked in the Udmurt Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic in 1942–1948. The paper contains the information about the pays to the P.O.W.s were transferred from the funds of the enterprises where they worked. The article analyses the level of P.O.W. wages, the dependence of the wages from the labour activities and the bonus that the P.O.W.s received for good performance. The paper contains the data on the average level of P.O.W. wages in Izhevsk and lists the kinds of labour activities where the P.O.W.s received the highest wages. The research is based on archival documents, most of which were involved in the scientific use for the first time.It is highly unlikely that the P.O.W.s who were in Udmurtia in 1945–1948 starved since they could use their wages to buy additional provisions in the camp stalls and town shops.

Abstract:

Managers formulate, implement and monitor strategies to pursue their goals. Implementation is important and involves, amongst others, Production and Operations Management (P.O.M.) techniques. The purpose of this article is to study, by means of a limited sample, perceptual associations between goals of manufacturing strategy and P.O.M. techniques. An attempt is made to answer two questions in this article. The first question is which specified goals are independent of each other? The second question is which P.O.M. techniques are recommended for these independent goals? Bias and the definition of P.O.M. techniques create difficulties but pilot research indicates that some specified goals are perceived as independent. More investigation is required to verify this. Some techniques are identified with specific goals and this work should be expanded.

plaster of Paris (P.O.P.) bandage has been the pre-eminent external splinting material for over 150 years and from time to time synthetic alternatives have been tried. So far none has seriously challenged the dominance of P.o.P. as a primary or secondary material in the management of fractures. The recent introduction of Polyurethane coated fibreglass bandage appears to offer a more serious challenge than previous contenders. This technical note reviews bandage type splinting materials and explains some of the properties of the PU materials.

Abstract:

This paper examines the creation of anthropomorphism through a point of view focusing on visual structure in the "Hunters and Hunted"(2009) documentary. One of the criticisms of wildlife films is the anthropomorphism of animal behavior and relationships in ecosystems in these documentaries, as it can lead to distortions of animal behavior in ecosystems. One of the aims of this article is to indicate the part of anthropomorphism that is created through the point of view and through the visual form of the work, so in order to avoid anthropomorphism in films, more attention should be paid to the form of aesthetic. Point-of-view analysis shows that subjective point of view (P.O.V) shots leads to anthropomorphism from the perspective of non-human beings. With this in mind, the different perspectives were explored in "Hunters and Hunted" from the “life” (2009) series. Surveys show that from 475 shots of this documentary, 14 shots are from the first person’s point of view from an animal perspective to advance the narrative. The structure of the P.O.V created in these shots shows that the shot / reverse angle shot pattern was used to create the subjective point of view and the image composition and also editing played a key role in creating the P.O.V shots in this documentary.

Abstract: Data from the National Socio-Economic Survey of the National Central Bureau of Statistic (Susenas, BPS) 2016 shows that the average amount of national top up the balance spending per month in 2016 reaches Rp 22,182 per capita. It is becoming a business opportunity for top up the balance of retail entrepreneurs. However, in the process of managing the process of input, output and reporting of goods that are done manually (still using paper) are not monitored properly, often there are outgoing or incoming goods whose data is not recorded. This, in the long run, will cause large losses. The purpose of this study is to build applications that function to help provide information that makes it easy to control the process of entry and exit of goods. The system development methodology used is object-oriented system development using the Unified Modeling Language (UML). The results obtained from this research are the design and construction of Inventory Information System POS (Point of Sales) in the form of Context Diagrams and UML Diagrams (Use Case Diagrams, Activity Diagrams, Class Diagrams, and Sequence Diagrams), with the results of black box testing conducted already in operation properly according to the needs of the retail owner. Namun, dalam proses pengelolaannya proses input, output dan pelaporan barang yang dilakukan secara manual (masih menggunakan kertas) tidak termonitoring dengan baik, seringkali terjadi adanya barang keluar ataupun barang masuk yang tidak tercatat datanya. Hal ini dalam jangka panjang akan menimbulkan kerugian yang besar. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah membangun aplikasi yang berfungsi dalam membantu memberikan informasi yang memudahkan dalam pengontrolan proses keluar masuknya barang. Metodologi pengembangan sistem yang digunakan adalah pengembangan sistem berorientasi objek menggunakan Unified Modeling Language (UML). Abstract:

The influence of the length-to-depth aspect ratio and of wall asymmetry on the main vortical flow structures evolving in rectangular two-dimensional deep cavities is studied experimentally using wall-pressure and particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements. Wall-pressure and cavity flow statistics have been analyzed and shown that the flow features are strongly affected especially by the asymmetry. An emphasis is given concerning the behavior of the shear layer oscillations that are compared to the analytical deep-cavity model prediction proposed by P.J.W. Block (NASA Tech. Note. 1976). The results show good agreement with Block’s model if the value of the convection velocity is properly adjusted. Stochastic estimation of the cavity flows demonstrates that convective structures are involved downstream of the cavity along the wall and highlights the physical nature of the pressure-producing flow structures.

Abstract:

The photoelectric effect in the production and transformation of light is animportant phenomenon in quantum physics. The theory was initially presented by Albert Einstein and allows us to explain several technological applications in engineering. The use of computer simulations in the process, as they have already been proven to yield in science teaching, can provide excellent conceptual learning results, and that includes the teaching of the photoelectric effect. Ten simulations available on the internet were classified by criteria established based on bibliographic research developed within the framework of the historicity, concept, and context triad, and then four were selected and used in a classroom with engineering undergraduate sophomores. The Predict-Observe-Explain (P.O.E.) methodology was used to guide students in carrying out the experiments. The results of the analysis of the simulations and the elaboration of a laboratory instruction guide and experimental intervention, with the methodology, demonstrated the effectiveness of using computer simulations for the learning of scientific concepts in the context of engineering education.

Abstract:

The study investigates the thermal properties of different insulating material used in building construction in Ijebu Ode, a tropical rainforest region, south western, Nigeria. Five insulating material; asbestos, Plaster of Paris (P.O.P), PolyVinyl Chloride (PVC), hardboard and paperboard, were subjected to thermal investigation using Lee’s disc electrical method. The result obtained showed that the thermal conductivities obtained are within the range of values specified for good insulating materials. Asbestos was found to be associated with the least thermal conductivity of the value 𝟎. 𝟏𝟕𝟏𝟕 𝑾𝒎-𝟏𝑲-𝟏while PVC had the highest thermal conductivity values of 𝟏. 𝟔𝟒𝟗𝟗 𝑾𝒎-𝟏𝑲-𝟏. This may be associated with the temperature and the heat flux on the surface of the material. The results obtained for thermal conductivity, thermal resistivity and thermal diffusivity correlated favourably when compared with those of previous work from other locations. Asbestos being the material with the lowest thermal conductivity is therefore recommended for use as the suitable insulating ceiling material in the study area. Abstract:

Background: Post-operative outcomes of a major abdominal surgery depend on careful & effective post-operative management. But it is a critical job especially in children. Obtaining adequate analgesia after major surgery is a problematic issue and postoperative pain still imposes a major burden of suffering in surgical patients.Objectives: The principle objectives of the study is to evaluate the effects of intravenous lidocaine infusion in pain management of pediatric population undergone in major abdominal surgery; to reduce post-operative morbidity & enhance better surgical outcome in children.Methodology: This is a randomized control trial carried out from January 2015-June2015,in a tertiary care hospital among 60 cases of 4 to 14 years children with major abdominal surgery without having any pulmonary, cardiac, hepatic or renal insufficiency. Grouping of patients that is lidocaine infusion group (Group A) and control group (Group B) was made among admitted cases for elective abdominal surgery by simple random technique by means of lottery. For assessment of postoperative pain FLACC Scale was used in both groups. Clinical examination findings & specifically designed data collection sheet with a set questionnaire were used as research instruments. Formulated data was analyzed by SPSS version 17, taking p value <0.05 as significant.Results: It is noted that, after 24 hours of operation most of the patients 56.7% of group A had mild pain whereas 90% patients of group B had moderate pain (p<0.001)& during that time there was no patient with severe pain in group A whereas in group B 10% patients were with severe pain. At 48 hours, pain was absent in 13.3% children of group A and 6.7% in group B. In group A most of the children 76.7%had mild pain compared to moderate pain 18 (60%) in group B children at that hours (P<0.001). Again, regarding required amount of analgesics, patients received I/V lidocaine required less amount of analgesics than its counterpart. In present study, complications was noted only 3.3% patien in group A, where as in the opposite group it was found in 23.3% & p was <0.05. In group A, in 50% patients post operative bowel sound was returned within 72 hours, compared to 73.3% patients in group B. The p value was 0.001. About post-operative hospital stay, 83.3% children of the group A were released from hospital after 5th P.O.D whereas, in group B, only 50% children were released after 7th P.O.D of operation. The P value was 0.03 that is also significant.Conclusion: Intravenous lidocaine could improve immediate and late post-operative pain with early recovery after major abdominal surgery in children & it can contribute to rapid postoperative rehabilitation programs.J Shaheed Suhrawardy Med Coll, June 2018, Vol.10(1); 23-27

Background. In the context of cirrhosis, portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is present in 2.1% to 26% of patients. PVT is no longer considered an absolute contraindication for liver transplantation, and nowadays, surgical strategies depend on the extent of PVT. Complete PVT is associated with higher morbidity rates and poor prognosis, while comparable long-term outcomes can be achieved as long as physiological portal inflow is restored. Materials and Methods. We report our experience with a 45-year-old patient undergoing liver transplant with a PVT (stage III-b). To restore portal vein inflow to the liver, an extra-anatomic jump graft from the right colic vein with donor iliac vein interposition was constructed. Results. The patient recovered well, with a progressive improvement of the general conditions, and was finally discharged on p.o.d. 14. No anastomotic defects were found at the postoperative CT scan 10 months after the surgery. Conclusion. Our technical innovation represents a valid and safe alternative to the cavoportal hemitransposition, providing a proper flow restoration and reproducing a physiological setting, while avoiding the complications related to the cavoportal shunt. We believe that the reconstitution of liver portal inflow should be obtained with the most physiological approach possible and considering long-term liver function.

Abstract:

The literature shows that the monoterpenes are great candidates for the development of new drugs for the treatment of various pathological processes, including painful conditions. The gamma terpinene (γ-TPN) is a monoterpene present in plant species that have multiple pharmacological properties and has structural similarity to antinociceptive monoterpenes, such as limonene and alpha-phellandrene. Theγ-TPN molecular mass was evaluated by mass spectrometry and showed a pseudomolecular ion withm/z137.0 Da. The animals did not present any signs of acute toxicity at 2 g/kg, p.o.γ-TPN (1.562 to 50 mg/kg, p.o.) showed an antinociceptive effect in the formalin, capsaicin, and glutamate tests.γ-TPN has antinociceptive action when administered by others routes in glutamate test. To eliminate a possible sedative effect ofγ-TPN, the open field and rota-rod test were conducted and theγ-TPN did not show muscle relaxant activity or central depressant effect. To investigate the mechanisms of action, the animals were pretreated with naloxone, glibenclamide, atropine, mecamylamine, or L-arginine in the glutamate test.γ-TPN antinociception was inhibited in the presence of naloxone, glibenclamide, atropine, and mecamylamine. The results suggest that theγ-TPN (p.o.) produced antinociceptive effect in models of chemical nociception through the cholinergic and opioid systems involvement.

A few remarks on the translation of a fragmentary bilingual text: Cuvântul nisiparniță (Le Mot sablier/The Hourglass Word) by Dumitru Tsepeneag The present paper will focus on the translation of a fragmentary bilingual writing. Interested both in his own monolingualism and in the monolingualism of the other (see Derrida 1996, and here mainly the monolingualism of the French reader who should constitute a kind of pseudo-source-audience3), Dumitru Tsepeneag turns his own bilingualism into a topic in his book Cuvîntul nisiparniță (published first in translation as Le Mot sablier in 1984). “This (im)possible appropriation becomes the generating reason of the creation and in the creation, then in the self-translation”; a “writing experience” where the writer cultivates his bilingualism and his biculturalism, and sheds light on the process of translation from a perspective that is at least double: that of the translated42 and self-translated writer, but also that of the translator-writer” (Lungu-Badea 2008, 20). What translation strategy would be appropriate for a book that begins in Romanian and ends in French? We could claim that its destiny is to show how one language replaces another and, consequently, renders translation useless for bilingual users. If this is but an argument for the counter-translation, the French translation, published by the P.O.L. publishing house, does not challenge it. It could respect neither “the psychological intention of the author” (Ladmiral 2006, 140), nor the “semantic intention of the text” (Ladmiral and Lipiansky 1995, 53).

Biological invasions are considered one of the main threats for biodiversity. In the last decades, more than 60 macroalgae have been introduced in the Mediterranean Sea, causing serious problems in coastal areas. Nevertheless, the impacts of alien macroalgae in deep subtidal systems have been poorly studied, especially in the coralligenous habitats of the eastern coast of Sicily (Italy). Therefore, within the framework of the programme “Progetto Operativo di Monitoraggio (P.O.M.)” of the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), the aim of the present study was to gain knowledge on the alien macroalgae present in coralligenous habitats of the Marine Protected Area (MPA) Isole Ciclopi, along the Ionian coast of Sicily. By Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) videos and destructive samples analysed in the laboratory, five alien species were identified: Caulerpa cylindracea, Antithamnion amphigeneum, Asparagopsis armata, Bonnemaisonia hamifera, and Lophocladia lallemandii. Since A. amphigeneum was previously reported only in the western Mediterranean and Adriatic Sea, the present report represents the first record of this species in the eastern Mediterranean. The ROV surveys showed that the alien species do not have a high coverage and do not appear to be invasive in the coralligenous area of the MPA. Since ocean temperatures are predicted to increase as climate change continues and alien species are favoured by warming of the Mediterranean Sea, the risk of biotic homogenisation caused by the spread of alien species is realistic. Therefore, further studies are needed to assess the incidence and invasiveness of alien species in phytobenthic assemblages of coralligenous in the MPA.

Diagnostic assessment was done by USG and Laboratory investigations and Clinical examination. The findings of USG revealed Single live intrauterine pregnancy of 34 weeks 6 days with mild IUGR, mild oligohydramnios. Loop of cord around neck, Normal fetoplacental blood flow pattern. Placenta was Grade III With calcified. In Ayurvedic classics lakshanas of Garbhakshaya, Garbhasosha, Vatabhipanna Garbha are near to signs and symptoms of IUGR. Ksheera vasti was planned along with it oral medications Avipatikar Churna, Pittantak Churna , Kapardika Bhasma, Shankha Bhasma and Gokshura Churna in combination, Phalasarpi, Swarna Vasanta malati rasa and Punarnavastak Kwatha. Patient got relief from Severe oedema. The other complaints like severe hyperacidity, Headache were relieved. Then after her B.P. was 110/70 throughout. Fetal movements were good after Vasti procedure due to which patient felt well relaxed. Patient got her labor pain and delivered on 8th May with the weight 2.2kg male child at Government Hospital. The delivery was uneventful. After ksheeravasti there was increase in weight of the baby around 118gms. Just in six days Vasti provided such a enormous change. There is a need to design and develop an affordable motorized vehicle for better mobility among physical disabilities. This study aimed is to initiate appropriate and affordable materials to develop an accessible motorized wheelchair. It includes the feasibility study of the existing used wheelchair, the system used and the characteristic of the physical disabilities symptom. Through the observation, an existing motorized wheelchair uses stainless steel as the main structure, manipulating the shelves heavy-duty accessories, electrical component, heavy-duty battery and car pulley system in which the weight accumulates approximately 100 kg. The heavyweight wheelchair cannot be folded and put inside the car. It also needs to have a special carrier to carry the wheelchair. The field research has also been conducted to evaluate the existing wheelchair system in the market with various systems used, components, and motors material used in the area of technical, usability and comfort before start to redesigning the wheelchair. The results of the study would include the background needs of the characteristic of physical disabilities. The available high-grade aluminium materials will be used to support the mobility and their relevant properties. The design will be done all the way and the specification will be used as an instrument data for the motorized vehicle. The selection of design features, documentation of design procedures and results will be used to create a P.O.C (Prove of Concept) prototype for the meant vehicle. The user will use the preliminary prototyping test and the data (result) will be used to improvise the wheelchair prototype. The second improvised prototype will undergo the second user testing in the area of reliability, stabilization of system, and ease of usage. The results expected will be observed and tested by the user to lead towards the recommendation of the motorized wheelchair design.
